Here I Go Again - On The Road Again.

It's Wednesday morning and I'm about to drive north for three days of fun and sun and relaxation . . . . . perhaps a little TOO much relaxation. Hour after hour after hour of monotonous relaxation.

I got an email from one of the PE-Cbus army and it reminded me of something funny (well, to me at least).

Every person on the crew is wired and has an ear piece. Many times you will be talking to a guy and all of a sudden he will get this far off look in his or her eye. You lost him. All your words are falling on deaf ears.

He will be looking past you like there is a ghost. Then, he will utter something totally nonsensical to some being on a far off planet and BAM - he says "excuse me - I gotta go" and zip - they are gone .

Anytime you talk to a crew there is a chance the conversation will just stop in mid sentence.
-------------------------
In another thing.

Looks like the rumors that Claire from LOST is the captive that Johnny abducted. Not sure. I have not seen photos of the REAL person that was abducted. All I have seen are TJ's shots of the double. BUT - it's something to talk about.

The real person did come out with a XXXL HUGE down coat. Like something somebody that has been in the tropics would wear when we here in Wisconsin are comfortable.

HOPEFULLY I will be on set by the time you read this so don't expect any return emails or any words of faux wisdom until LATE Wednesday night. And even then I will have had all of my brains sucked out of me by father tedium and I might just fill the page with squiggles and dots that I THINK are words.

At least I will have a chair today . . . unless we're on the road getting shot at.

Be Good

Rod

  1. Yay, Rod! Maybe by the end of the week those dudes walking around selling Johnny Depp glossy 8x10s will be selling yours instead!

I might head up again today, after work. My sons didn't go on Monday and are slightly regretting it now after seeing pics. LOL

That wind is rather harsh though...

  2. Have FUN Rod! I am jealous. Do you think you'll get sent to Manitowish Waters with the car crew? If you do (or anyone on the film crew reading this) go to Skyview Lodge/Bar/Restaurant in Presque Isle, WI. It is north of Manitowish Waters and it is the BEST restaurant in the area. I am not associated with the place; just a VERY happy customer.

  3. Mr. Mann & Mr. Depp (if you read this) please come visit Menominee County & Reservation while you are in the Oshkosh area. We're up north about an hour. You should come and visit "Billie" Frechette's people and first home, to get an actual sense of who she was.

  4. Hopefully all the adulation doesn't make Rod see stars and forget all the little people that do the grunt work out in the field finding out information and taking pictures :)

  5. Enjoy the day!!! Hopefully you will see some action today!

  6. Don't forget to thank us in your acceptance speeches Rod. I'm sure we'll be known as "the little people I had to step on to get here." :D I hope you're having fun even with the boring tedium!

  7. I think we need t-shirts that say "I read Rod's blog before he was a star"!

Gee, imagine riding around being shot at by Depp....

  8. I saw the post in the Daily Citizen too and am wondering what they would need cowboy types for?? Can anyone that has already read the book fill me in on that? Mine was just shipped, so it will be a while before I get to read it.
My husband and I are going on a little get-away; leaving Thursday morning and getting back Sunday. I'd like to stop in Oshkosh for a couple of hours. Can anyone give me some hints on the best way to come in (coming from Beaver Dam) and where to go to possible see
    SOMETHING??? Time will be limited.
    THANK YOU!

  10. Did anyone get pictures from the filming in Winchester yesterday? Does anyone know what time they are shooting today(Wednesday). I work just over the bridge, and I plan on leaving if they start filming on Main St.

  12. Sue - I didn't see the casting call you are referring to so I may be way off base here but...

I don't remember off hand any ranch type scenes. The only time I recall the word 'cowboys'used was in reference to a handful of experienced field agents that Hoover was able to round up. They stood out in contrast to his normal young clean-cut college boys that made up most of his agents. In the early days though Hoover had a no-guns policy everyone ignored the fact that these guys did carry guns and were able to use them.

I don't remember anywhere them being described a looking like actual cowboys though.

  13. dj - FUN! you just raised the excitement level. = )

I may actually leave the house now...

  14. Thanks for the info, Shakenbsis. It will be interesting to see then what they plan to do with them! I'd try out, but I wear a size 12 dress and they're requiring size 10
or smaller! Was everyone smaller back then?? LOL

  15. Shakenbis—are you going to Oshkosh?? You should go if you can—it’s a beautiful day!! I am stuck here at work in my gray cube….blah.

  16. dj - i've got he coffee on and jumping in the shower then I am out the door! You are right it is a beautiful day and maybe the last one this week = )

Sue - I think women were bigger then but nowadays they like skinny women = )

  17. Thanks dj!

About the sizing, they are using vintage clothes so they need people to fit the clothes that they have. And I think they were pretty much shorter and smaller then. Ever been to Grauman's and looked at those tiny foot prints of the 30s stars? yikes

  18. Too cool for words. :) Have fun everyone who is heading up to Oshburg today!

Oh, Rod will have to thank his adoring wife who sacrificed the wife of a star lifestyle to stay home and feed the cat its Prozac, too.

Sue-I'd guess you'd want to take the 9th Ave Exit and go right. Downtown is near the lake, and if you take the 9th Ave exit, then go over toward the lake to (Ohio St? Main St?) and go north, you should see something! Good luck! Have fun!!

  19. I think you're right about the sizes of clothing they have.
Thanks, Suz for the directions. I'll let you know if I get there!

  24. Hi Guys!

This just in….the Rod and the “Picture Car” people have been hanging out at the New Moon Café all day sipping root beer and eating bon bons while the REAL actors rehearse a scene (across the street?) at the bank. Rod is now without camera—seems someone forgot his camera at the hotel! LOL

BUT anyway, he says they are starting to crack down on people taking pictures Hmmmm…….. I wonder why??? LOL

Also says he expects filming will last until at least 7:30 tonight.

    That’s all for now!

  25. Evan and I just left downtown after shawdowing the reporter from The Northwestern...we were able to get a couple of peeks before they broke for lunch. I will be taking Evan back downtown to try to get the autograph he so wants...I don't know if I can pull the meet and greet off twice or if Mr Depp will remember Evan from Monday...I have had over 800 hits since posting the story...bizarre.

If you watch the Streetwise videos on The Nortwestern's page, Evan should be in the one that posts today! He will be in the paper maybe Friday!

  26. Karen... I love the t-shirt idea! LOL!!

  28. Hey,
Question anyone. I hope I don't annoy anyone...but I auditioned for being an extra at the Milwaukee shoot and I want to know what anyone thinks of my chances for a call back (I heard they have not done them yet).

This is how I looked at the audition: http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h46/CrazyWorld2144/?action=view&current=P1060306.jpg

    Please let me know,

  29. Emily - your link is not working for me. :(

About the Emilie/Claire thing, I've emailed a Lost guru, asking if he knows for sure. hehe

We decided not to go to Oshkosh today, mainly because of the wind but also because I've been neglecting everything else in my life the last few days. Doh! So I can't wait to hear Rod's and everyone's news, and see new pics!

  30. Any word about a meet and greet tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Apparently the blonde seen here was Emily de Ravin (Claire) from LOST.

    http://www.holdrenphoto.com/PublicEnemies/slides/IMG_7114.html

Her part in PE is small ("Anna Patzke," a bank teller taken hostage by JDillinger during a bank robbery) and will probably not require any more shooting. She's probably already be back on a plane to O'ahu

  36. Rod-we're all jealous too bad you don't need more passengers???

Sue-"cowboy" types refers to the book as shakenbsis said-the older lawmen mostly from the southwest who actually had experience were referred to in the book and by Hoover as "cowboys"-the other agents were "kids" fresh out of college with law degrees-they all finally got to carry guns and even tommy guns (no fun gunfighting "yegg" men with so called "pea-shooters"

columbus shooting-does anyone know if it's really 29th?? some locals I know said the local paper says its the 28th?? maybe both days or is there some subterfuge going on??

    ReplyDelete
  37. Congrats Rod-you've been discovered by Hollywood. They'll be no stopping you now! So glad you're getting to enjoy all the "tedium"--I'd trade places with you in a heart beat! Enjoy the ride!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Deppfan: The Columbus Journal said filming will be on April 29th. It is also on the city's web site for that day! I have not heard anything about the 28th...

  39. anon: THANKS for columnbus on 29th info (I scheduled myself off for 28-30 just in case but have a friend who only can get one day off and wants to come) :)

  40. I got the book "Public Enemies" by Bryan Burrough! Got an E-Mail from the Whitewater City Library (Irving Young Library) and just want to now tell everybody that while there are some LONG waiting lists, I noticed the "Share" system that covers libraries such as Waterloo, Watertown, Fort, Jefferson, and others north and all the way to Racine had a total of like 20 or 30 copies still just sitting on the shelf!!! So, I went directly to the one over there that I go to and inquired and when i logged on THERE, it allowed me to put a hold on it and just 2 or 3 days later i'm now reading it! Great Book, too, Machine Gun Kelly, Kate "Ma" Barker, Pretty Boy Floyd, etc., etc., etc.!!! Oh, and of course Dillinger!!!!! Won't say no more!!! If you really want to get your hands on a copy of this book, you might also go the Inter Library Loan route, because i noticed there are many, many copies around the state on "Wiscat" ask your local librarian.
And Thank-You for the nice comments, too!!!

    Moviestar/EQ Guy

  41. The copy i got actually came from Germantown!!!

  42. The book is great! I just started and have been falling a little behind. In between working, going to school, and catching all the filming I can... my reading has fallen to the side.

If people are in Madison, Borders and Barnes and Noble both have the book stocked and it is selling for $16.
