Amtrak Idea

WELL - You can see I wear my emotion's on my sleeve at times LOL.

I'm about to go north on a road trip to Lawsonia to see what a 21 handicap guy can do on a REAL GOOD golf Course. Quoted by Golf Digest readers as “one of the toughest courses you will ever play” “second only to Blackwolf Run,” and “top five best courses ever played.”"What Golf Digest says is.

I hope I break 150.

So - quicky thought.

One of the things in Nancy O' s vision was to have some big flower boxes around the Amtrek Station. They would be created by a Master Gardner. The problem was upkeep. We could get the city to water them but here is an idea - call me crazy.

If we could get 3 or 4 people that like to garden. Why not get each one to once a week check out the boxes, water and weed if needed. That way people that actually care about the flowers would be in charge and it is only a once a week visit. It would save the city money and one less thing to worry about.

I would volunteer to be one and take a photo every week to show progress. All we have to do is get it up in the first place which always seems to be the most difficult part.

If I have any other takers I'll propose this to Nancy!

With that - I'm off for a golfing adventure.

Someone mentioned the Farmers Market - I took this with a little 1.2 mega pix Olympus at the Farmers Market a while ago.

Cheers!
Rod

  2. Can't believe I missed Cat Night at Kurth's. All bars should have this promotion, no?

I was at a show by these guys instead: http://tinyurl.com/5gnu77
They're Irish folk, and I'm an old punker, but I still think they're totally awesome. Incredibly nice guys too.

It's rhubarb for me today. Pies. Thanks for the hot pepper porn, Rod... we're into that at our house. We've had entire calendars full of just such images of lush, juicy, lustily reclining peppers.

    Great day everyone!

  3. Sorry this is a day late.

Rod, thank you for publishing part of my story on your blog. I had not told the entire story (well, I did leave a few details out) to anyone until Friday night. I also need to thank you for the parts that were omitted. Some of the other Columbus Seven are better suited to offer their insights. The story I offered up to the Kurth crowd was based on my experiences and my view of the experiences of the other six Columbus extras.

To the faithful readers of Rod's blog: I apologize for any part I may have had in raining on anyone's parade. To the best of my knowledge (I admit I am not a frequent visitor) Rod goes out of his way to keep his blog and the comments positive. I also appreciate the excitement that the filming of Public Enemies has created.

In the spirit of full disclosure I have been critical at times of the whole movie experience in my hometown. I fully appreciate the recognition that Columbus received. Columbus is a great city with beautiful buildings downtown. In general I think Universal did a fine job. I did get somewhat irritated when I couldn't get to my driveway because the road was taped off (never mind that the shooting was 6 blocks away) or my driveway was blocked by “outsiders” trying to get a look at Johnny. I got annoyed at times when my wife spent way too much time (IMO) at the shots or waiting around basecamp for a “sighting”.

I think it should also be known that I did not become an extra out my own design; my best friend, without my knowledge or consent, submitted my photo the casting company. I did not do this to get in the movie or for the money (which, by the way, will be donated to the Auditorium fund) but as a favor to a friend who wanted to make sure that someone from Columbus was in a Columbus scene.

Why do I feel the need to explain myself? If I do ever put the story to print (so to speak) I want readers to know my frame of mind entering this process and let them decide how it affected my experience or how I tell it.

Would I do it again? Probably not. Ask me again in a couple of months.

Do I regret doing it? Hmmm, I don't think so. It was one of those unique “experiences” that enrich our lives. I also got to meet six amazing people (Andy, Daniel, Danny, Joyce, Deb, and Kristin) that I probably wouldn't have met otherwise. We have some sort of odd/unique bond now. I thank them.

One more thing. I honestly hope that what happened the the Columbus Seven was a fluke. I hope the others that have/had the opportunity to participate have a more positive and memorable experience than we did.

    Thanks for listening.

    -Left-Hand Louie

Rod, sorry for the rant. ;)

  4. Lefty,
I really enjoyed hearing what you had to say and wished I could have heard more. You know, the chances of something like this ever happening in my lifetime again are pretty slim...all aspects of the experience for everybody interest me...from the extras, to the bloggers, to the people who waited for the meet and greets...we all have such great stories to tell...and the friendships that have come from this are so positive.

I have enjoyed Columbus so much. Y'all have a neat town! And such great people! Thank you all for making Evan and I welcome!

    PS
Dillinger is thriving and asleep on my neck as I type.

  5. On the IMDB board, Herenotthere posted; I quote: As for bad. We've had crowd problems in the smaller communities, but this was the first time they got aggressive. Security was as good as it could have been. We cannot stop people from getting to their homes and some of these drunks lied. We had to divert people through alleyways and they simply snuck in. It was a bad situation that was handled as best as it could have. I feel bad for JD because he now has been told No meet and greets by HIS people. He likes to connect with his fans, but because of the ugly actions by a few ... well you know ... have a good weekend and I'm off to being arrogant and annoying somewhere else ... hehehe
end quote. I hope he doesn't care that I posted this. But it's too bad that some stupid drunk people on Friday had to do this to the Johnny and his fans.

Dillinger has been Cheezburgered, follow the link and give him 5 burgers so he can be all sorts of famous!

  8. Lefty: Thank you so much for sharing your story. I was so sorry to hear how badly the extras were treated. I don't know if the reasons behind the crappy treatment was a matter of ignorance, simply not caring or self-importance. But from hearing your story, it would have taken so little for them to have made the experience better.

I'm sure while making a movie there can be many things that you can't control. But one thing people CAN control is how they treat one another!!

But I am so excited for the movie to come out and I'll be looking for "man walking" and am going to root for Left Hand Louie!!!
    :)

  9. Nice pics of the peppers Rod!

Osh- You should make Dillinger a catsters page! It's great fun. I have my dogs on dogsters, and just getting ready to put my cats on catsters! Our kitties could be pals!!! The address is:
    www.catster.com

Sounds like a good time at the Kurth :( Missed it again.

  11. Fanfromwi mentioned what Herenotthere poasted on IMDB, "I feel bad for JD because he now has been told No meet and greets by HIS people."

I was just wondering, do you think this means that JD won't be doing anymore meet and greets at all in Chicago? I mean besides the Biograph location? They still have about a month of filming, and I was hoping for my own chance to meet him now that he is in IL.

  12. Thanks Dj! I hope I can make it to one in the near future. I can't go this week as I will be out of town. From what it sounds like....big party at the Kurth maybe for some upcoming bdays the friday after????? (I hope)

  13. Hi all.

I was terribly sad to read about Left Hand Louie's and the other's experiences. I have this total idealistic view of what the extras had to do. Thanks for opening my eyes... I hope you are still excited to see the final film...

    Also, Anxious in MN....I'm here...
I believe I just sent you an email. If you don't get it, let me know..

Maegen, could you let me know what your hubbie did to create that doc where I uploaded the video???

Osh, Dillinger is adorable and my six year old has fallen in love with his pics! I think I'm gonna have to join the kitteh brigade.

Rod, hope you enjoyed the golfing today. Can't wait to read more of your blogs....

To everyone else, I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day, celebrating our freedom with family and friends. Remember those who sacrificed their lives so that we can do so. God Bless to all who have family currently serving in the military as well. My nephew is in Japan with the Air Force, and all though he's not involved in the war, he will be deployed sometime in the next year. I'm sure many of us know someone who is in the armed services. Pray for them all....

On that note, I'm off to watch Sweeney Todd for the first time...I hate gore...when do I cover my eyes???? Maybe I'll just close my eyes and listen to JD sing...hee hee!

  14. Peg- that was the strategy my mom used. I was supposed to let her know when to leave the room so she could miss the more violent parts. I accidently missed one and she didn't let me live it down the rest of the night!

  15. Hope your golf outing was fun Rod!

It was a nice day for a drive. jsut got back from a grad party in Osseo, Mirror Lake was looking beautiful as I flew by (no Ishnala today, bummer)

Osh - I gave you 5 cheesburgers whatever the heck that means! LOL

Lefty - so glad you left your thoughts here...

    Peg - I like your smile = )

Meagan - so sorry your being poached down there, he heee. I think that's pretty close to where I nearly got thrown in jail once.

m - yes it's the same story =) mmm... pepper porn and rhubarb pie, i'm hungry!

Happy Memorial Day all, I got to spend the day with a vet recalled to active duty currently home on emergency leave to be with his dying dad... I felt it a privelege to get to thank him for his service. He heads back to Iraq on Tuesday.

  16. Thanks, Shakenbsis, I haven't found a pic I like so I thought I'd throw a little sunshine everyone's way.

Ok, so I just finished Sweeney Todd. I was a pansy and fast forwarded through some of the killings, or muted them at least. At least the suspenseful parts where I wasn't sure, then rewound to watch it! But I loved his singing! What a great storyline and the cinematography was phenomenal. Hard to think I shook the very hand that wielded that razor! haha

I'm not really a Tim Burton fan, although I liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but this was done really well...

Now, I can't wait even MORE to see
    Public Enemies... ;)

  17. To everyone who hasn't heard the story about everything that happened to the Columbus 7 - It is really bad! I can't believe the way they were treated. It was practically inhumane!

Left Hand Louie - Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us Friday, I hope something good comes out of what happened to you and the other 6 extras that night. Universal should really issue some sort of apology!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hey Rod - thanks!

I just noticed you put up links to our blogs = )

Minxie - I saw your new profile pic today for the first time, very nice!!! =)

  21. Wow. I'm glad we behaved and got our meet and greets! Timing is everything....

    ;)

  22. I believe there is also information on IMDB about JD's staff disallowing any future meet and greets. While I don't know if this is just a temporary thing or permanent thing, I am glad that this type of behavior did not occur in this state. I can honestly say that if anything remotely close to that were to have happened here, there would have been a stop put to it or an attempt made by the crowd. Michelle and I were talking about that yesterday and she had mentioned that the commradere in Columbus would have prevented that type of of occurance and I truely believe that. Not to say that we are better than anyone else or that something bad couldn't have happened but the vibe that I got from Columbus was that it wouldn't have been something that Jerry would have had to deal with because there would have been other people that would have diffused the situation before it got to that level.

While I have been labeled as an "MPI fangirl" on more than one occasion, I believe that they did a great job while they were working here in Wisconsin and helped to create the safe and happy atmosphere that we were all able to enjoy.

I hope that whatever did happen in Chicago can be looked at as a learning curve for security and that the actors aren't forced to be reclusive because of the actions of a few. I honestly believe that JD finds solace in his fans and his interactions with them. For those that taunt all of us on IMDB, I think that you would change your mind if you saw the adoration that not ony comes from the fans but from JD himself in his interactions with fans. I hope for his sake, if this is something that he enjoys doing that he is able to continue.

Ok, I'm off my soapbox now.

    Happy Monday everyone :)
