Base Camp Has Arrived

First thing I have to report is that Base Camp started arriving about 8:00 this morning. All systems go.

I have a question for mr. anonymous crew insiders (herenotthere?? - we all love you here no matter what the IMdb people print). Have you guys noticed a learning curve from being on the road for the last 7 weeks? For instance, the cobblestone installation that first time in Columbus was pretty FUBR, yet now - BAM - its down in a matter of hours and was pretty quick in Oshkosh (except the wind kept blowing in up, and those darn trolley rail kept expanding LOL).

Since most movies are not 99% location events I have to think this is a new experience for many of the crew. Has there been any attrition? Have you discovered new ways of doing things to make life easier that you can pass along to others in the future?

Just curious. you can call me a fanboy if you wish - it's not an insult if it's true. I'm in tune with my fanboy side :-)
---------------------------
In Columbus news. Jenny and dj attended the Red Bud events downing hot dogs, brats and ice cream (did you know that because of prohibition ice cream really came into it's own? Most bars changed into ice cream joints and more and more individuals started experimenting with inventing more then two flavors).

They then went to the Prince and Princess competition. Here are the participants. Last years winners are on top wearing white and this years winners are center bottom.

The Prince winner is style'n with the hat!! High Five buddy!!

I get a pretty big chuckle out of that guy in the back. I wish I know what he was thinking. Every time I look at the photo I chuckle

Do any of you golf?????

My little golf outing at The Wilderness was pretty fun. It's actually called Wild Rock now as it's been completely redesigned with 18 brand new holes.

We had drizzle the last FOURTEEN holes but the GPS carts worked great for us. I took a few pictures before the rain sort of put my camera into a dryer spot.

Once I was at The Oaks and I had an Olympus camera in my bag. A huge storm came in and I had nowhere to go so just kept playing (no lightning - I found later we had two inches on rain in 30 minutes). I felt like that minister in Caddyshack. I actually walked past four golfers that were huddling on the ground with umbrellas shielding like they did in The 300 against the arrows.

ANYWAY - After it stopped raining I went to take a picture, opened my pocket on the bag, put my hand INTO a pool of water which had collected inside the pocket and scooped out my camera that was VERY HOT!. hmmmm last time I looked cameras did not have heaters.

FRIED!

oop - a little of topic.

Some photos of Wild Rock.

Wild Rock Clubhouse

Funny story on the next photo. It's 250 yards to carry that bunker in the middle. I tee off with my new birthday present, a PING G5 driver and I blast a shot 257 yards to the left side of that bunker. I'm pumped.

Adubya (210 average bowler, and golfing he has an average drive is in the 270s) blast his shot about 10 yards farther. DAMN!! he beat me again. Every time I have a GREAT drive (for me) he beats me!. (story continues later).

Looking back on a pretty par 3

The next hole I once again blast a perfect tee shot down the middle - the kind of shot where you say to yourself "THIS is why I golf, for THAT feeling". Adubya blast his shot down the middle, points at me and laughs. I reply with a DAMN YOU and a few other friendly but choice words.

In our carts on the way to the ball I'm joking about how I loath adubya and I find out later that adubya is laughing saying "Hitting my drive past Rod makes all the other bad shots worth it" and then has an evil laugh.

We get to the ball and both are in the middle of the fairway but his is 10 yards past mine DAMN IT.

I walk to my ball and . . . . wait . . . .THAT IS HIS BALL - MY BALL IS UP AHEAD!! I OUT DROVE ADUBYA!! (insert evil laugh). The guy can hit 300 yard drives and I crushed him by 10!!

Our foursome ended up 2nd place from last which was what we expected in the scramble. I think we were +4 for the 18. First place was -12.

A good time was had by all.

talk to you tomorrow.

  1. Rod, great to hear that Base Camp has arrived! The kids are cute. I'm trying very hard not to say anything detrimental about your balls. :0 Ooops! I meant gulf balls. :)

  2. Rod + electronics = not such a good combination!
    Sorry Rod.... couldnt resist! =0P

Good to hear that PE crew is heading into town.... I hope everyone enjoys their time... looking forward to hearing the stories and seeing the pics!!!

    Happy Mother's Day to all!!!!

  3. Rod,

Thanks for all the updates! With the film crew back in Columbus, that means (hopefully) good photo ops :)

You and electronics just don't seem to be a good match. LOL

Happy Mothers' Day to your mom and to all the other moms out there!

  4. new from last time the crew was in town... a giant blue tour bus.
    Wonder who that is for?????

    ReplyDelete
  5. Rod, good question for the crew. It's too bad we can't get more info from them. There are a lot of visitors to your blog who live far, far away. Here are a couple weather questions from one of these people.

    1. Internet weather says that it is raining now in Columbus. Is that true? (Just checking the accuracy of the Internet:)

    2. Weather is crucial for outdoor filming. I got the impression that the Wisconsin weather (precipitation wise) has been good for the PE filming during the last 3 weeks. Is that true?

    3. It was raining all night in the Dells (according to the Internet). It appears from herenotthere that Mann was doing something last night. Any idea? Could they be filming outdoor scenes "in the rain"?

    Any insights would be appreciated:)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Rod you do seem to have a "history" with water and electonics ;) "resistance is futile" in my attempt to not make this comment

Good to hear Base Camp is up-since I have to work Mon & Tues-is Tuesday afternoon still the best opportunity to see filming???? (I know, I know-everything's tentative and depends on weather) but other than those factors???
I can make it up Tues. afternoon cause I will go in earlier that day so trying to plan??? if possible?? Keep the info & pics coming please.......

    Happy Mother's Day to all!

  7. garyandyvonne -

It is true that it is raining here. Not a lot at least by where I am. Rod is the "weather guy" so he can probably give you a more accurate update.

The weather over the last few weeks has been hit or miss. Somedays have been nice, somedays have been rainy and cold, some have been windy, it just has been typical Wisconsin weather.

It sounds from what we have heard the crew is making due pretty ok with what old mother nature has dealt them and filming is progessing. Since they have been filming in all that they have been dealt it must be a-okay with them. I guess we will have to wait and see if they come back for any reshoots in the nicer summer weather.

Hope that helps answer a few of your questions.

  8. I have very reliable information that Christian Bale ate a cookie last night.

    ReplyDelete
  9. So here is the scoop:
They have been filming night shoots at Mirror Lake. My movie star was there last night. I suppose you could say he has been demoted lately. During the night shoots he is "only" a stand-in for Baby Face Nelson. He gets a front row view of EVERYTHING going on. He was in the snack tent when Christian Bale came to get a cookie. I asked him if he said anything. He said, well I supposed I should have. Ugh!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Movie star wife: Bale fans are waiting on pincushions

pray tell: what kind of cookie did Christian Bale have last nite??

    LMAO

  11. For weather go to

    http://www.columbuswiweather.com/

It's my weather site - updated every 10 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  12. seriously thanks for the info on mirror lake-hope they didn't get pneumonia in the rain/cold

sure most posters here, okay maybe only me, are extremely jealous of your hubby's front seat @ such great filming scenes!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Movie Star Wife, thanks for the information about last nights filming. Without giving away state secrets, I am very curious about whether they were actually filming outdoors last night. My information was that it was raining all night. It would seem that you couldn't film outdoors if it was raining steady. But what do I know!

    ReplyDelete
  14. It could be possible if the weather in the script called for rain. It could have been the weather they were looking for. I guess we will have to wait and see.

    ReplyDelete
  15. rachel, very interesting point - I hadn't even thought about that possibility.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Rachel, are you saying that there could have been rain in the time period upon which this movie is based upon for real?

    ReplyDelete
  17. There has been a large blue tour bus at every location..believe its manns...

    ReplyDelete
  18. I guess that I am :)

By the way Osh... your new haircut is super cute from the pic of everyone at Kurth's!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I believe the rain has been taken out of the forecast for Tuesday (did you do that, Rod?) so we should have a nice day to see Red get shot!!
I have to concur with everyone else that you just don't seem to do well with electronics, Rod!!! There weren't any white trucks in Beaver Dam yet early this morning; but am hoping to catch sight of some this afternoon!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Deppfan--I don't know what kind of cookie. I asked--but you know men--he didn't pay attention.

They have been shooting outside at Mirror Lake. Needless to say--they have been long, cold nights. It's hard to get any specific information--he is quite tight lipped. However, I know this--they may be in Wisconsin longer than Tuesday.

    Ciao for Now!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Movie Star Wife - this is cool. It must be like being married to a CIA agent. We don't want any loose lips, do we!

    ReplyDelete
  22. So true! The hardest part is that I have been busy with school/exams and he is having all the fun. I am hoping to head to Columbus Tuesday after my exams. Hopefully I will get to see something. Sigh. "Some guys have all the luck".

    ReplyDelete
  23. There is no way I can go to work tomorow and Tuesday with Hollywood on my doorstep!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Christian Bale ate a cookie last night.

LOL...here is me thinking "He was in Ripon?!"

I suppose only locals would get that. Doh!

So what scenes are they doing in Columbus this time? Just ganster stuff, or will the FBI side be involved? I hadn't planned on going but as the end draws near, I'm kinda toying with the idea.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey movie star wife! I like the new 'Director's Chair'! Very classy... lol

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey Rod - glad to hear you are in tune with your fan-boy side!!!

    ROTFL = )

  27. Happy Mother's Day to all of you that are mother's reading this and your mom's etc. and hope JD's mom and woman are having a happy day also.

The news on the Milwaukee filming is now somestime in June w/no exact dates as of yet from my source. He says the date keeps changing because of the weather.
    Hope this helps

  28. I have been told that Universal will be in the area for quite some time. Through my connections I've learned that Universal has hotel rooms booked off in the Lake Delton area into next month.

The cast has been happy with the fact that people aren't stalking them where they are staying. The locals know where they are, but give them their space.

The car is still out in the ditch at Mirror Lake, with a ranger guarding it.

  29. Any word yet on what they're shooting which day in Columbus? I planned on coming up either Monday or Tuesday afternoon and was wondering which one would be better. I thought I heard Monday for Poser's and Tuesday for downtown? I stopped by both places in Columbus tonight, looked like a little more activity and trucks around Poser's than base camp.

    ReplyDelete
  30. debsmad, you talking Rippin' Good cookies? LOL I get your drift.

Not surprising my mind jumped there because everytime I go thru downtown Ripon I find myself saying "They could have filmed here." I think it's Watson Street, very Columbus-y.

    ReplyDelete
  58. jp - i know where you can get a key to the city...

    ReplyDelete
  59. A key to the city? Should i call Adam B and ask to borrow his?

Does the key to Columbus also serve as a bottle opener? Cuz the key to Oshkosh does.....lol.

    ReplyDelete
  60. you could do that but mostly I think they just leave it open = )

    ReplyDelete
  61. a bottle opener? thats funny!

Everytime i go buy paint they give me a new paint can opener which also happens to be a bottle opener. Do they think painters are automatically drunks?

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm sure Rod has a key to the city laying around somewhere in his basement or something.....buried under a pile of damaged electronics maybe?

  65. Huh. So he might be back in LA about the time I get down there (our head dancer and I are ditching our husbands and going on a girls-only road trip before we both have melt downs). I somehow doubt I'll see him see him anywhere, but you never know. He turns up the oddest places.

Since I haven't been on here the last few days...here's what I sent my mom for mother's day:

Rod, some companies keep collections of their hardware that's been destroyed in especially creative ways. I think your latest cell phone disaster might qualify. If you still have the pieces, take a photo and send it and the story to Motorolla. They may be amused. They may even send you something for doing it. If nothing else, you'll make some tech support person's day.

  66. To anonymous inside source:

That's great you got a chance to meet JD - several of us on this blog have had that opportunity and he is a great guy.

I may not speak for the rest of the group, but I don't really need the play by play of JD's whereabouts, where he went and when he returned. It's a bit stalkerish. As long as he shows up on set and makes a great movie, it's enough for me. JD's private time is just that, his private time, and whether or not he flies back to LA for a day or flies to Antarctica is really none of our business.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Cranky...you sure are cranky...I don't think inside sources was trying to give anything away or be annoying.g..lay off.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Just keep in mind that not everyone that reads the things and little info on here is normal. This is a worldwide thing. I think Cranky just is trying to remind everyone that filming locations and all that are one thing while personal location info and comings and goings aren't. I'm ready for incoming :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Cricket:

I'm not the one who's cranky, nor am I the one who needs to lay off.

Did you even read my post?

When JD is not on set, I don't need to know about it. It's his PERSONAL time. I don't need to know where he was or what he was doing, nor should you or anyone else reading this blog. He's a person for cripes sake.

    ReplyDelete
  70. for the record...both of me are completely normal.

I am gonna be crackin' myself up this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Cranky....truly I don't care what he does on his personal time either...I just don't think that inside sources was being all that intrusive and I'm a little tired of people using the blogs to snipe at each other...as that was all your had to say. And inside source didn't tell a moment by moment of his day...he mentioned he was in LA...not the place the man slept what he had for dinner and what he did during his free time....we all want to be respectful of him as a person...all I'm saying is don't come to the blog to snipe...Rod has done a great job of keeping people from sharing things that shouldn't be shared and we have all been very good about respecting privacy....so keeping cranky sniping comments out of it...please.

Give it up. These people just don't get it and they never will. We're just going to have to deal with it until this is all over and the film wraps. I guess it's too much to ask to just leave these people alone and let them do their job...or let them have a private life.

    Question for anonymous inside source:
If you're such an 'inside source' then I would think meeting Johnny would be no big deal to you and there would be no need to post such an encounter on a blog. Hmmmm...

I just posted here because I know a lot of fans of the film and of Johnny's read this blog and the comments. And no, I'm not paparazzi either.
