Confusion Rains on the Parade

Ext. Cross Roads of Yellow Brick Road – Asst Director BOB WAGNER and Johnny Depp come forward along the road from b.g. - CAMERA BOOMS down to left as he pauses in the center of the cross roads -- looks about, speaks --

WAGNER
Follow the Yellow Brick Road? Follow the Yellow....?

WAGNER, puzzled as he looks about o.s. --

WAGNER
Now which way do we go?

WAGNER standing in the center of cross roads -- a Director on a pole in the cornfield at right -- he speaks, points to right -- WAGNER whirls about and looks at him --

DIRECTOR
That way is a very nice way.

Director, his arm pointing to right --

WAGNER, a bit frightened as he looks about o.s. - he speaks, looks down at Depp (in yet another amazing costume) as he barks o.s. --

WAGNER
Who said that?

Depp barking at the Director o.s. --

The Director in the field of corn -- Depp barks o.s. --

WAGNER looks down and speaks to Depp o.s. --

WAGNER
Don't be silly, Depp. Directors....

The Director in field in b.g. -- camera shooting past WAGNER in f.g. -- the Director speaks, points to left with his other arm --

WAGNER
...don't talk.

DIRECTOR
It's pleasant down that way, too.

WAGNER reacts, watches the Director o.s. -- speaks to Depp --
looks up as the Director speaks o.s.

WAGNER
That's funny. Wasn't he pointing the other way?

DIRECTOR o.s.
Of course, people do....

Director in field -- shooting past WAGNER in f.g. -- the Director crosses his arms and points in both directions --

DIRECTOR
...go both ways!

WAGNER reacts, speaks as he starts forward --

WAGNER
Why....

WAGNER steps forward to the cornfield as he speaks to the Director --
CAMERA TRUCKS forward --

WAGNER
...you did say something, didn't you?

The Director shakes his head, then nods --

WAGNER looking at the Director as he nods his head -- he speaks to him --

WAGNER
Are you doing that on purpose, or can't you make up your mind?

Universal On The Move.

Yea - the TRUE story of what is happening.

Well Done Universal - awesome job at creating mass hysteria and messing up vacation schedules. Serious confusion and I bet if we had wireless radios we would hear faux Universal people giving out instructions on where the next shoot would be.

Has anybody actually poked any of the white trucks? I bet they are just big balloons.

The permit request for street closures in Milwaukee on Monday has been withdrawn. Th latest has the movie filming in Madison on THURSDAY and tonight.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentential has called Nancy O's blog slightly confusing. Notice they have left out THIS blog which has been the pillar of consistency by posting ALL dates possible. Therefore never being actually wrong.

Most TV stations are now going with the Thursday shoot which would put Columbus Monday. All I know is that Jenny is at home staring out her window waiting for the circus to appear in HER parking lot and THAT will tell us Columbus is near.

All I hope is that this is all in the plan for Michael Mann and Company and they are not actually lost in the country somewhere driving around looking for something they recognize.

If you think of it though all of this confusion it is pretty interesting and makes a great story and something to talk about.

An Auditorium Tidbit

The knowledge base of people reading this blog is one of the things I love. You never know what tidbits of information will pop up.

For instance - when a friend (balderdash) was looking at some of the photos of the auditorium he came across a little nugget of history that might have been missed by a lot of Wisconsinites.

Gerald Clifford ran for Congress in 1934 as a Democratic Party nominee. He was born on June 19, 1889 in Chilton, Wisconsin.

That in itself is interesting as the poster is seventy-four years old. However that name might be rattling around in your head. Where have you heard this name before???

Clifford was part of The Hungry Five, a name given to five Green Bay, Wisconsin businessmen who were instrumental in keeping the Green Bay Packers in operation during its early years.

Together, they raised funds, incorporated the team as a non-profit corporation, sold stock, established the Green Bay Packers Board of Directors and otherwise promoted the franchise.

The Hungry Five consisted of Curly Lambough, Andrew B. Turnbull, attorney Gerald Francis Clifford, Dr. W. Webber Kelly and Leland H. Joannes.

No one remembers Clifford because he died in 1950 without writing his side of the story and the sometimes faulty memory of others have diminished his role.

But the most important reason Jerry Clifford's memory faded from the scene is that he is the person that forced Curly Lambeau out as coach of the Packers. You see Lambeau was trying to change the corporate structure and take control of the Packers to move the team to a warmer climate.

Clifford led a faction of the Executive Committee that limited Lambeau’s power and prevented the takeover. Shortly after that, Lambeau left the team to coach the Chicago Cardinals and Lambeau’s many friends never forgave Clifford.

Clifford died in 1952 and was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1991. The staduim SHOULD be named Clifford Field and not Lambeau.

So today we're at home waiting for plants to arrive. DJ and I are landscaping today on the house. This is a before photo taking this morning. We have thirteen large plants coming. My worry is that it's going to look too formal so once they get in my plan is to ADD MORE!!

I really want the house to look like a mushroom emerging out of a thick jungle of plants.

And here is my very first garden I created which is coming along nicely.

Out plants JUST arrived and some plans for a patio we're putting in so it's off to work.

See ya at the Kurth. I think we might swamp them tonight - SORRY KURTH PEOPLE - we will behave.

  2. Wow, that's interesting history about Clifford. Brings whole new meaning to that photo.

Drove past the Poser house this morning -- guard, ambulance, unmarked police car. I have no idea what's going on... didn't look like any crew was there.

I think I can make it up to Kurth tonight.

  3. Michelle, did you get my email? Evan is sick, so no field trip for us today and I am bummed. I am hopeful for next week.

  4. Phone calls have revealed that the shoot on the capitol steps is on for Monday.

  5. Here in Madison, I got my first touch of movie buzz this morning as I drove in behind a white trailer marked "costumes." It looks as if Bas Camp will be the parking lot of the old Mautz Paint factory on E. Washington, since there was a large banquet-style tent set up there and I would guess no one is choosing to have their wedding in the parking lot of an old paint plant!

  6. Where is Kurth's located. I may try to stop in tonight (I'd be by myself; as hubby is up north on a fishing trip). I need directions from Beaver Dam.

    ReplyDelete
  7. From Beaver Dam, take exit 120, HWY 73 and follow it through town. Pass the stoplight, keep going for another several blocks. It will be on your left, on the corner of 73 and Farnham.

  8. Sue,
Kurth's is on Ludington, south--going toward 151. Where are you coming from? You could just google it.

I put off a possible job interview tonight to enjoy my Friday night off and enjoy all y'all's company. So there. My priorities are right where they should be. ;)

I don't see anything happening up the hill now. I suppose it's all just more prep. :s

osh, others who have illnesses preventing you from PE filming/gatherings: Sorry, and know we are all thinking of you.

I will be there next week when the cameras roll...somebody put me on speed dial and I can be there in an hour...face masks and hand sanitizer if needed.

  11. I can say that it is HIGHLY unlikely that they will be filming on Friday the 9th at the capital - The Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officers Memorial annual ceremony will be there that day and there will be HUNDREDS of cops on the capital lawn and squad cars blocking off the whole square - awesome ceremony but doubtful of filming then.

    ReplyDelete
  12. What time do the festivities get started at Kurth's (and how late do they go?) I'm going out to dinner with my dad and may come to
Columbus after that. If I take the first exit into Columbus (I think that's 73, right?) that turns into
Ludington St.; right?? I just stay on that? That would be easy enough to find then. Who's all going to be there tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Also - tried to get to Mirror lake - definately filming - but the security is so tight they won't let anyone be there - do not recommend to go - no parking within MILES. But did accidentally get to meet Rory Cochrane in a bar after a disappointing attempt to see my man Christian or Johnny...

  14. Did anyone else see the article in the papers about the museum in Oshkosh receiving prop items from the filming of PE? I thought that was really neat.....this might be something Columbus should pursue as well. It is a history making event for the community after all!

  15. They're on E. Wash? That's a couple of blocks from here - I'll run at lunch and triple confirm the sitings!

Love the Clifford history - I've got a Packer's nut here in the office I'll show the story to.

Sadly no Kurth for me tonight - massive project implementation and I have to stay at work until very late. Maybe next week!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes! Wonderful about our museum in Oshkosh getting some of the set! And what a great idea for Columbus as well, maybe for the auditorium?

I AM SO BUMMED I CAN'T BE THERE TODAY.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I may actually drag my groggy, sniffly Dayquil-ed butt over to the Kurth... when is critical mass tonight? And is the crowd and venue still friendly to the socially anxious? I'm afraid I don't get out much these days, and will thus be identifiable by my deer-in-the-headlights look.

  18. Usually base camp sets up the day before filming. So are they filming at the capitol today or tomorrow? If anyone gets a picture of Christian Bale, be sure to send it to Rod!

My hubby works around the capitol and I sent him to basecamp to take a looksee.

Kris you'll have to report what you saw over lunch :)

We are usually at Kurth's from 6 - 9. Sue and Mary you should definitely come tonight! So far I think we got me, Rod, dj, shakenbsis, michelle, suz, and stoplight guy. Am I missing anyone else? We'll miss Osh and Kris :(

  19. This was posted yesterday on Channel 3000;

MADISON, Wis. -- Furniture is being removed from a state Capitol hearing room in preparation for filming of the Johnny Depp movie "Public Enemies."
The state has given the filmmakers a permit to shoot in and around the second-floor hearing room, in a ground floor hallway, inside a staircase and outside the Capitol near State Street.
Film producers also got the OK to create a "smoke-filled" room inside the Capitol.
The permit said filming will take place inside on Friday and outside next Thursday.
The permit does not say whether Johnny Depp, Christian Bale or any of the other stars in the movie about gangster John Dillinger will be in the Capitol scenes.
Filming has taken place across Wisconsin since March.

So they are in there right now filming?!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  20. At the end of yesterday's posts Kathy in CBus said she has come down with Truckanosis! I feel for ya. The only cure is to follow where they lead. I think that Saturday might be a good day to see what CBus looks like before the entire town comes down with the fatal Truckanosis.

  21. i heard on the radio this morning. filming will be at the capitol today, monday, and possibly thursday.

"So they are in there right now filming?!?!?!"

From what I've heard, filming will not start until tonight, after the building closes. Of course, we all know how things change around here, but it IS all indoors tonight.

  24. Good afternoon. My movie star arrived on the set at about 4:30 yesterday afternoon. He got home at 7:00 am this morning.
I have almost no information/stories/etc. He immediately went to bed and has been sleeping since. Yes at Mirror Lake. Yes Christian Bale. I'll let you know if there is anything worthwhile to tell. He was a stand-in for Baby Face Nelson. Ciao for now!

  25. Cranky anonymous - Do you live near Columbus? You should come down to Kurths tonight and we can make you less cranky :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Tonight: Closed set, indoors.

Monday: Outside, public will be able to watch from a distance behind barricades.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anon, you just read the Capital Times article?

    ReplyDelete
  28. E Wash/Mautz report:
White Ryder truck, a white S10(?) with a red Wisconsin outline on the door, wedding type of tent, and a Wacker generator. Seems really calm and quiet for a basecamp if they're filming tonight.

Jenny how many hours before filming did the Columbus Basecamp have activity?

I'm sad I have to miss Kurth and meeting some new people (and shakenbsis's granola).

    ReplyDelete
  29. When they came to Columbus they set up base camp at 10:30 pm and Johnny Depp showed up at 8:00 am the next morning and then they started filming. So I guess I would estimate that basecamp gets set up about 9-10 hours before filming...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nope, hadn't seen an article. I was just going by what they told me last night.

    ReplyDelete
  31. OK - this is what I know and believe to be true - someone has probably said this already so it will confirm OR deny SOMEBODY.

Filming will be tonight and the CAP will be closed.

MONDAY they will be filming on the State street side of the steps in Madison.

Public works are in motion can not be stopped so I consider that info gold.

The Kurth - Here is an idea.

I'm afraid we MIGHT make the Kurth from a sleepy two night a week gathering to something a little more stressful for the owners.

THUS - I will use my Fedora (actually a Stetson) as a tip collector to help out the wonderful people that run the place.

They probably did not think the Kurth would become a hot spot for movie buffs LOL

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah Rod, that's a good idea!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I just want to check my understanding of the filming schedule.

    1. PE definitely filming inside capitol building tonight and tomorrow morning.

    2. Outside shooting of capitol either Monday (5th) or Thursday (8th). There has been at least some confusion on this one. It was my understanding that Mann wanted Monday as a first go and then if weather is bad go to Thursday.

There is no need for secrecy for any of the filming in Madison. And unlike some filming, the public needs to know exactly when the outside shooting is being done, doesn't it? So does it look like definite (if we dare use this word) outside shooting in Madison on Monday if the weather is good?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Jenny - You can add Kathy to the Kurth's list for tonight! Sorry we won't get to see you Kris, boo hoo...

yeah! the sun is shining!!! simple pleasures = )

    ReplyDelete
  35. No, Jenny, I'm about an hour to hour and a half from Columbus. And I already have plans tonight, but thank you. :)

So, are they done out at Mirror Lake now? I had heard rumors that they were going to do some filming tonight as well.

    ReplyDelete
  36. To the anon who got to meet Rory...Did you ask him if he was in the Madison scenes? What did you talk about? Did you get pictures, autograph, anything??? I love Rory and would love a chance to meet him! Any details would be greatly appreciated! I am going up to scope things out tonight after a babysitting job, just on the off chance that I see a celeb leave the capital and go to base camp...Base camp is less than a mile from my house! I am freaking out! If I find out anything or get pictures, I will definitely send them to Rod! Have fun at Kurth's tonight :) Peace everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am now just logging on, and I am soooo confused...someone please clarify what the heck is going on?

    Madison..today? when?
    Columbus?!? when?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Just in case anyone wants to see it and hasn't yet, there is an article with picture of CB on the Capital Times webpage.

  39. maegen, the Capital Times talks about Madison filming.

    ReplyDelete
  40. ok..
so i read the cap times article.. about the filmings will be inside the cap tonight and they will move outside on sunday and monday, with filming possibly on monday.

so when is the columbus filming?
the city of col. website says in three different places, two of which say filming is thur may 8, another place on the site says wed may 7th, and the mayors blog that was posted yesterday says the filming will be on Thursday the 8th.
Rod- In regards to this in your posting "Most TV stations are now going with the Thursday shoot which would put Columbus Monday" Do you mean it would put Columbus on Monday may 5th?

No worries, as I know Rod's Blog & Co. will provide plenty of raw data.

I will be join the cav to the Kurth, along with DH.

Kris, I was hoping to hand off the Auditorium scrapbook to you tonight. Some other night, you workaholic.

Suz, you want to walk down with Rick and I?

Osh, Tara, we'll be thinking of you, and anyone else I missed.

  49. There is a vintage car in a ditch out at Mirror Lake with a tarp on it, bits and pieces around it, and a Sauk County Sheriff guarding it. Looks like they had a fender bender on the set last night with a chase scene and a curvy road.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Apparently Kathy's white truckanosis is contagious. I just saw one ("owned and operated by universal studios") heading up Blair Street to E. Wash.

There is an old buggy and wagon parked in the back parking lot of the Capital Heating plant - it wouldn't be used in the movie would it?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Interesting note about last night at Mirror Lake:

There was a sign that read:

NO CREW: HOT SET (on a pink sign attached the ROAD CLOSED barricade)

They had to have been doing high-speed chase scenes.

Cast and crew were actually staying at two different hotels in the Lake Delton area.

The road they closed off for filming was brilliant. I can see chase scenes, and they must look brilliant. The scouts are probably as detail-oriented as the director.

    ReplyDelete
  56. How cool is that a early Saturday morning in Madison @ the Farmers market and seeing people/crew leaving the overnite shoot :)

Anon/Rod: Maybe the "wrecked" car was not a mistake?!? If they filmed the shootout that seals Baby Face Nelson's fate, maybe it was on purpose (just guessing....)

Thanks for info, changed my Columbus vacation days for the THIRD time to Wednesday and Thursday (yippee-maybe I won't have to change them a fourth :o

    ReplyDelete
  57. Wednesday night WAS a car chase and crash--all planned. Filming is done at Mirror Lake. There are only 4 characters doing scenes today in the Capitol. No extras or stand-ins I think. Nothing really eventful to share about last night.

    ReplyDelete
  58. You are all so great to share your stories!

  59. The Lake Delton police said they are filming at Devil's Head today. That could just be rumor.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Make that Devil's Lake.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Interesting prohibition tidbit-apparently there was a loophole in WI. If you were on a body of water (Great Lake or even Devil's Lake) the no alcohol law didn't apply. Apparently some resourceful people had boats to take out masses of people (especially from Chicago) out on the water for drinking parties. Heard this story from a historian @ one of the state parks.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Boy, this place really dies down when the majority of the people go to Kurth's! deppfan, I had heard the Prohibition tidbit also. Of course, when they couldn't do the water cure a lot of people just headed up north to the bar/brothels, where alcohol was abundant and often the police just looked away.

  63. Hi,
the blog´s schedule says that filming in Milwaukee(Old Historical Society Museum)is going to take place this weekend.I showed up there this morning and a security guy said that the shooting´s not gonna take place because of the weather conditions. He said he thinks they might start shooting the bank robbery scene here in Milwaukee on Monday.
Does anyone of you guys have some more information on the shooting in Milwaukee?
I´m kinda confused because on the schedule at this website Madison comes after Milwaukee, but now they seem to have rescheduled everything.I´m totally confused.
Hope you now more concrete information than I do.
    Take care,

We park the car, get out, and suddenly I notice--HOLY CRAP...WE ARE PARKED BEHIND A BLACK FORD EXPEDITION WITH AN INDIANA LICENSE PLATE!! Of course there was no Johnny in it, and it was totally empty, but it was still pretty cool to be freely right next to the car that is usually much-coveted by jd fans. It was just weird!
The security guy told us there's no JD, CB, or Stephen Dorff there.

We stuck around until about 3:45 this morning but didn't see much other than our breaths (it got cold and windy per wisconsin weather at this time) so also confirmed that they would be here Monday open set filming all day past 5:30 pm and maybe something else....

  84. I'm afraid the Clifford on the poster is actually John Clifford who ran for Congress in 1918 and lost by a very small margin, less than 200 in Dodge County.

If you notice the "over there" that dates it to the First World War.
