Down For the Count

Oh sure - I'm mentioned in a major newspaper when I'm suffering with a cold.

The Portage Daily Register has a piece called One more day (and into the night) with Depp written by By Craig Sauer.

Some stats from yesterday
4,424 page loads, 4th highest, 9.364 was the record.
2,257 Unique visitors also 4th highest

And since March 7th there have been a total of 97,770 Unique visitors with 47,295 returning.

Thanks a lot everybody.

Now with coffee and handkerchief in hand I will delve in to the record 235 comments.

Be back soon.

Erik E - took these shots in Beaver Dam of Marion Cotillard and JD with a new mustache

His full set is on Flickr and can be found here at Public Enemies -- Beaver Dam 5-13-08

Later today I'll have advice on two things you should NEVER EVER do when catching a cold.

Another thing I want to stress. Just because PE is going away (but not yet wink wink nod nod) at some point does not mean this blog will fade away. I know I know, many of you are now disappointed but at the moment I have more then four complete thoughts in my head and three incomplete ones and THAT is under the evil demon of NyQuil.

I have the ability to embarrass myself many more times I just love talking about small town America, good and bad. I received an email from a blog buddy in Estonia a while back saying he/she loved hearing about what small town America was like. (geez that sounds like a political stump speech didn't it, did I mention his mother was forced to quit her job at the auto factory because of the cost of gasoline and lack of insurance and health care?)

I'm here until they drag me away. tee hee

Funny story from Jenny who's house is next to base camp. This is a good AND bad thing. Think about it. You are NEXT to base came, but you can never relax. Every time you hear people screaming yu feel you have to look outside to make sure yuo are not missing something special.

I got this email.

At 3:30 am I woke up and looked out the window and saw there were still like 150 people outside across the street. So then I looked out my other window that over looks basecamp and saw Johnny's bodyguard talking to the security officers and he only does that before Johnny comes out.

I run downstairs and put in my contacts and went outside. Luckily there was some room at the end of the barricades to stand, so I stood there and within minutes, Johnny came out.

He started at the other end of the street so I had to wait about 15 minutes for him to get to me. I was standing across the street from my house so when he got to me I said "Hey Johnny, we were neighbors" And he turned around and looked at my house and said "You live here? Can I move in?" and I was like "YAH". Then Jerry his bodyguard who has an English accent said "Oh, so you were the one making all the noise and keeping us up all night, haha" It was funny and I got another hug from Johnny Depp!

Thanks Jen (she is the best daughter in law you can imagine)

A little Oshkosh blog from cynnbad out of California. The Razor's Edge - Musings on Life and Depp

I have great news - Tanya from Connecticut who I met at the Visitor Center FINALLY got her hug from JD. She had flown out three times only to have the date changed - WAY TO GO TANYA! I am very happy for you!

What would a blog be without some beautiful Michelle shots.

Michael Mann and Johnny Depp at the end of the shoot!

Thanks Michelle

  7. Great pictures Erik!

Glad everyone who braved the icky weather and late hours had a good time last night.

Jenny what a great experience for you!

I too am very disappointed in the treatment given out by the residents of BD. I lived there for 8 years and met some great people including DH who was a guard in Waupun at the time. Had some great times at the Rogers Hotel.

Thanks to those who posted the link to the Portage Daily Register. I use to check them daily, but have slacked lately. I was looking around the site and discovered they have special edition papers about Public Enemies for $1 so I called and am having them mail me one. DD is putting together a scrapbook from our Public Enemies experiece so I thought this would be a great addition. My mom has been saving all the articles from the BD paper for us so she'll have a nice collection of articles and pictures we took in March when we were there for the filming.

I still need to get back down there and get a better picture of the Poser house for her. The ones we have have alot of equipment and trucks around blocking the view somewhat.

  19. hey rod and all you great people keeping everyone informed great job. I too have had some wonderful experiences over all this public enemies mayhem. When filming in oshkosh which we missed out on, didn't bother going to, was done, my friend and i had the unforgettable opportunity of hanging with all the stars in appletons dejavu martini lounge...no johnny no christian to everyone's dismay, but the rest of the cast are amazingly fun people too....Special thanks to brian from la...hung out with us alot and gave me a jager t-shirt he had accquired...also to stephan dorff who was really friendly.....it was an amazing night of just being in the right place at the right time....kicking it for martinis and ending up with hollywood entertaining you right at the bar. My friend and i bonded with these people without truely knowing what was going on, and got ourselves invited upstairs after hours till 430 am.......what a night guys true hollywood style and on my grandmas birthday too I'll never forget!!!!!!! but now im starstruck....watching this filming is on my mind 24-7...does anyone know if there will be more time spent in beaver dam or columbus... or any whereabouts or schedule of the next shoot??????? we went to little bohemia and stared at pine trees for 12 hours....but we met some new awesome friends......thank hollywood for coming to wi!!!!!! 20. michelle how did you get those pics they are great!

    ReplyDelete
  21. shaken, I know what you mean.
And I didn't even get there last night! Unless I'd been able to sleep later yesterday a.m. or nap during the day (same with the kid), I knew we wouldn't last through the windy, wet night.

But I had to drive through this morning. Cobblestone being removed, empty base camp, bits of litter on the road. Party over. Missed party. Bwaaaaaaa!

I appreciate that there are some that worry about young children in this type of situation. I also understand the absolute uniqueness of this type of opportunity, and the uniqueness of each parent's approach and reasons for doing so. I made the call not to, more because I didn't think I personally had the fortitude for the late hours and duration. My kid is 10 and a top student; had I felt up to it, my thinking would have been that on her behalf, she'd earned a late night and a half day off school. Actually she's kind of mad at me right now for saying no. It'll pass. (sigh)

I am so very happy for all of you whom I now know, who were able to meet JD or Jerry or see something cool these past two days! Couldn't happen to nicer, more awesome folks!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Any news on what is happening today/tonight on the filming front?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wow, thanks Rod! I am appreciative of the comments... and amazed. In that situation, you have everything against you with the distance, the lighting and the no flash rule, and there are some flaws in a lot of my photos. Ah, if only it could have been daytime, I can't imagine how awesome the shots could have been. Ha.

It was certainly an amazing experience, and I thank Mann/Depp and crew for all the fun. Johnny is the most tremendous guy, willing to respond joyfully to his fans at all hours of the day and night. It was an honor to be able to document some of it.

  32. michelle, thanks for the URL to your treasury. The Mann/Depp picture is stunning and speaks for itself. Bravo!

You mentioned the weather last night. In you opinion, did the weather actually added an edge and/or mood to the scene being shot?

    ReplyDelete
  33. jp, I shot at 800 ISO for those shots. If I had a 5D or something I would have popped it up to 1600, but I knew the graininess would have been too much with my camera. Maybe someday, when I actually start charging for my work, LOL.

Thanks again, you guys are really very kind.

The new low light champ is the nikon D3 pusing ISO to 6400...but just like the 5D...it's $5000. :(
But we both know it's not the equipment....it's the person pushing the button..and you're an excellent "button pusher"..thanks again for sharing. :)

  37. Anyone who was there last night... I know it was raining/drizzling, but did you notice if they were regularly hosing down the street? That is an old movie trick that you don't often notice until you know about it -- every night scene on TV and film that is outdoors on pavement, the road is always wet -- even if it isn't raining. The reason for this is that the pavement would look really dull and almost disappear without the wetness to reflectively glisten. I, myself didn't notice it until I leaned it in film class. Now, I can't help but see it in every night shot. And, now you will too. Even when it is a beautiful night, the roads are always soaking wet...

    ReplyDelete
  38. gandy - I'm with you. IMHO the weather last night could only enhance that scene. I got a little catch in my throat as I felt the added emotional texture...

  39. Shakenbsis... i love your pics!!!! How fun!!!!

  40. Also, Michelle -- Great photos as always. Tuesday night I was a bit down the line from you, but recognized you when I saw your daughter. 42. I hate to repeat an earlier question, but I haven't heard anything about today's filming activities. Since it is past noon in Columbus, there must be some sense of what is going to happen next.

Also, have they pulled up the cobblestone?

  47. Hi,

I was curious if the Public Enemies crew will be returning to Columbus or not. I heard that they may return in June. However, I was at the meeting with JD last night and asked a crew member about it afterwards. The crew member told me that they won't be returning. :( He also told me that they will be filming in Mirror Lake today (for those that don't know.) I hope PE and Crew come back. >_< I really wanted an autograph and kept missing my opportunity. :( [Maybe, I'm being greedy. :(]

I can't complain too much, though. I did get a hug from JD, last night. ^_^

At that moment, he must have thought that I'm really stupid. Since the police officers told us JD was "giving hugs only", I prepared to give him a hug. When JD came up to me, I opened my arms...and he stuck his hand out wanting to give a handshake. lol. I, then, stared at him stupidly as if to say, "What?" He stared as if to say, "Hello?? I'm trying to give you a handshake." lol...and then, he proceeded to give me a hug. I feel a little stupid. lol.

    Furthermore, I'm a little regretful since I didn't really take in the moment. Everyone kept mentioning how soft his coat is, and I didn't even notice. I don't really remember what hugging him was like. :( It's a blur... ;_;

Anyway, I'm going to go as I'm really tired and my legs hurt a lot from standing. Maybe, I'll travel to Mirror Lake later. :/

To Kristine (the lady in the wheelchair that I met):

Unfortunately, JD wasn't giving autographs last night. I tried to squeeze in to give him or Jerry your envelope with the photo you wanted signed for your nephew, Jason. I was unsuccessful. :( However, I asked one of the crew members and told him the situation. He took the envelope and said he would pass it on to JD's Assistant who should pass it on to JD. Please, let me know if you receive it back. :) I hope you read this message on here. lol.

[Sorry for all of my grammar errors and spelling errors. The sandman is calling...(-_-)zzz ]

Thanks for reading my long post!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Aw, Sunprairie! You should have come up and said hello. I love meeting new people. :)

My friend has a little girl from Korea and is awaiting travel for her second child, a son, very soon! Julia is from China, and we had a wonderful experience with the entire adoption process. Feel free to email me if you'd like to chat more. PBHgirl at gmail dot com.

JP, thank you so much. Ha! That's perfect... I am a button pusher! I had my daughter's photos taken a couple weeks ago by an amazing photographer who uses a D3. OMG, I was in awe. She also had an awesome Nikkor lens that was equivalent to the Canon L series. A 24-70 perhaps? All I know is her whole camera/lens combo was worth more than my car. But wow, the shots she got with it. Someday, someday...

I do think the rain added a certain appropriate element to the shoot. Plus it made the cobblestone look pretty and since I didn't have to stand outside in it much, it worked for me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Here is a video from the JD meet and greet the other night. Maybe some of you are in it? http://tinyurl.com/5mrynq

    ReplyDelete
  50. shakenbsis, maybe you can ferment for awhile and then bottle it to sell. "Eau de JD" :) I wouldn't shower for awhile, either!!! So, do you think by "back north" the crew member meant Mirror Lake?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Great photos from Beaver Dam Cricket, Sun Prairie, and Eric. I'm wondering how Sun Prairie and Eric got the ones at Basecamp as we were "moved along". LOL
As always, Michelle; your photos are EXCELLENT! I'm jealous that you got so close to the scene! I must say that last night was a dismal disappointment for me! I stood in Beaver Dam from 12:30 until 5. Then arrived in Columbus about 6 and waited for Johnny and the crew to arrive only to find that my camera batteries were DEAD
when I tried to take a picture of him as he exitted his SUV. I walked to the Cenex and bought some regular AA's (my camera uses
rechargeables) and was able to turn the camera on again so I thought I'd be good to go. Well, after waiting until midnight for him to go to the filming I learned that regular batteries are too slow and missed a shot of him leaving Basecamp in the SUV. I'd really appreciate it if anyone that was across from base camp got either of these shots of him would
be able to send them to me. I stuck around until 12:30 (had been up since 5 am and had to be up at 4this morning)figuring that it would be so late by the time they finished that Johnny wouldn't come out again last night. Guess I was wrong and missed the last chance I had of getting in on one of his meet & greets! Oh, well; since my camera wasn't working I had no way of recording it anyway! Congrats to all that had that opportunity on Monday evening or last night.
    Sorry this got so long!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Heh I'm back for a few minutes. I forgot to ask what happened in Beaver Dam with the fans that everyone keeps saying they were shocked and disappointed about. :/

Also, I forgot to say that the crew member said after Mirror Lake, the crew will be leaving WI and returning to Chicago for some more filming there. He said they should be back later...not sure when...to shoot a day or two in Milwaukee. The schedule is never set, though...so things could change. :/

  60. Sue-

I was able to get the photos from that spot in Beaver Dam with a little help from the day before. I had made nice with one of the MPI guys in Columbus Tuesday ( I won't mention his name, but many of you know him and have photos of him on Flickr from various shooting locales). So, in Beaver Dam on Wednesday they were trying to clear out a number of folks from Base Camp to the bank parking lot because some of them were obnoxious trouble makers. Well, when he came to clear the group out and make people move along, he looked at me and smiled (I guess knowing that I wasn't a trouble maker) and let us stay in the "no stand" zone. I guess it goes to show that you never know when a little kindness will pay off sometime else!

  61. Hello all!

What a great night for all! I wish I could have found you guys, but there were so many people down there :( I have never been out so late in my whole life lol. Didn't get back to Waukesha till 6:30am. It was well worth it though. I got some great photographs, and a even had a mini coversation with JD! One of the people I was with had taken a photo of johnny in between takes. He saw her, and cracked a little smile, before Jerry shined a flashlight on her. I was on the other side of town when this happened, but the picture is priceless lol. Needless to say, when they came down the line we all had a good laugh with Johnny, and Jerry about it. Johhny said "Yeah, I saw you." Then pointed to Jerry, and said" He's a stickler isn't he" And started laughing. Then I got the hug I'd been waiting for since day 1, and it's all due to you guys and this blog! I can't thank you enough. I will never forget JD saying to me "Hello darling, of course you can have a hug!" He was just so nice to everyone! And doubly so...since it was 4am.

I also want to say thank you to the extras who let me hang out with them, and take some photographs. They were awesome....especially the driver of the 1931 car (don't know the model). He was very nice. I was told by some of them that they would be in mirror lake today, and Chicago over the weekend. Even the rain didn't stop them from having a good time, and talking with us onlookers.

Jenny- sorry you had so many people outside your home. There were just people everywhere. Hope your lawn didn't get too messed up with the rain, and all those people!

    Have a good day everyone!

  65. I too am curious about the wink, wink comment. My three daughters and myself were hoping that our third try, at meeting Mr. Depp, would be successful. Unfortunately, it wasn't and there were a few tears. I was lucky enough to be an extra in the Darlington shoot, so, I was o.k. with no meet and greet, on my part. However, I was truly bummed that my daughters didn't get to at least shake Johnny's hand. Hopefully, if there is anything to the wink, wink comment, we will get another chance to meet Johnny.

  78. I was thinking about this while I was standing in their yard the other evening but couldn't they tell people not to stand in their yard? Or is it part of the PE take over of the town that it just happens. I know our group had picked up all our trash in our area and used our plastic bags as trash bags.

I hope it gets cleaned up.

  81. So it looks like the Columbus gang is exhausted after trying to keep up with Mann's army for the past 2 days. Can you imagine what it is like for the crew who have been putting in days like these 6 out of the past 7 days? I agree with Rod that the crew are the unknown heroes of the film production.

  82. I also want to thank Julie from the java house, and the major for soming round at 2:30 AM with free hot chocolate, and yummy treats to eat!

It was very nice of them to do that! I have a few pics which I will post soon.

  83. Hi Lynn! Thank you! My email is PBHgirl at gmail dot com.

Jenny, the last BW photo on the blog today was definitely JD. :)

The trash thing bums me out, we were really careful to take everything with us. I had my "wagon of stuff" on Monday night. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Michelle - That guy in the last photo IS JD? His chin and nose looks totally different. I guess it's just me...

    ReplyDelete
  85. Does anyone remember off-hand when Dillinger had his plastic surgery? Was is after Red's death? Some folks had mentioned that they thought they had noticed JD with some sort of Chin prosthesis. Could this be what you are seeing Jenny?

I never did get a good look at his face last night before he changed back into himself = )

    ReplyDelete
  86. lotus - Did you make it down to Columbus yesterday?

    ReplyDelete
  87. I have posted over at IMDb a question about JD's moustache. I think JD [John Dillinger] looked better with a moustache and IMHO I think JD [Depp] looks sexier with his moustache. I bet not everybody is going to agree with me:)

  88. Hello,
At last, on my second cross-state trip to Columbus (a beautiful place, to be sure), I got my hug and brief conversation with Johnny. It was as amazing as I had imagined. The only bummer ... my friend, who lives right next to the trailer area (and your Jenny) had long since gone to bed and I found myself with no one to capture my moment on camera. So I am trying to get the word out for anyone to check if they got it during their mad photo-snapping. It was during the Monday night (May 12) meet-and-greet across from the trailers around midnight. I am short, blonde, with long hair pulled back in a barrett. I had on a black jacket and a black and silver backpack, jeans and black boots I probably had an expression of shell-shock :) I was standing next to the group that did the "21 Jump Street" salute to you, Rod. If anyone comes across a photo of me, please send it to me at chrissy507@hotmail.com I think people are doubtful of my miraculous story, so I need some visual evidence! Thank you from the bottom of my Johnny-loving heart :)
    -Chrissy

  89. Is the girl on the pics Marion Cotillard ? I did not recogniez her really.

    ReplyDelete
  90. yes...most likely marion if you are looking at the beaver dam photos. she was there...
IMHO..i think JD looks better without the mustache. although i dont mind his look when he has the gotee sp? and a mustache together....

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  91. I thought his stache was much thicker than Dillingers.

I feel bad I didn't get to meet everyone. The only people I remember seeing are Suz, KrisX, Shakenbsis, Michelle, and Osh. Did anyone else meet me? Maybe I just didn't know your name...

    ReplyDelete
  92. Shakenbsis-- John Dillinger gets surgery after Red's death- a few weeks before meeting Ana Sage and Polly Hamilton..
I am so happy for all you who met Johnny--
Again thank you to Michelle for great pics--YOU need to seriously think about a career in photography!!! JOB WELL DONE...

I wish the people in Beaver Dam were nicer to you all ---but I noticed it too we lived in Columbus for 10+ years and now are in Beaver
Dam it's not the same...but I think alot of this has to do with respect... There was alot of camera flashes and we heard alot of yelling and we were at the other end of the block
not great photo location but nicer people any ways you all have a great day and enjoy this weather...

  93. Jenny -

I'm forgetable but you did meet me :)

    ReplyDelete
  94. Thanks Laura!

Jenny, you and Rachel are in a photo together over on my blog (with JMB) = )

    ReplyDelete
  95. Rachel you are NOT forgetable!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Sun Prairie, I think that's great! I think someone trying to be nice to us (myself, my son and my nephew) is what hurt us. One of the employees at the video store knows my nephew and offered to let us up on their roof. The view of the hotel wasn't as good from there as it was from where we had been standing below; but we were right over the base camp and I think Michael Mann saw us up there. We were planning on coming back down before filming started, and were only up there a couple of minutes when security told us that
"they want you down". So we came down and were trying to get a photo of MM (Johnny hadn't even arrived yet!) and they told us we had to move from there too. Guess they felt we were stalking them?!! LOL
Shakenbsis; it was nice seeing you again too! Wish we could have spent more time together!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Michelle...I saw that you only posted one pic from the meet and greet Monday..as you were down the way by 2-3 people snapping pictures I had hoped you post a few more...I was thinking I might have been in one or two..if you get time will please post a few more from the night?

    Thank you!

  98. Any upddate on filming in Chicago? Dates? Locations? When do they start there?

    ReplyDelete
  99. PE has been filming now for about 8 weeks and most of that filming was in WI. Now Mann's army is about to make a more or less permanent shift to Chicago. Are people in WI expecting a mood change from the action no longer "being here" to "being there"?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Just delurking to thank everyone for all the good info/tips here. I have a few photos from Monday at http://www.cozynest.typepad.com/.
Too bad it all had to come to an end...

    ReplyDelete
  101. No, I remember Rachel from the first filming because she used my bathroom. And I remember everyone I met at Kurths too.(Left Hand Louie, Krisx, shakenbsis, Mary, Tracey, Sue, Suz, Michelle, Osh, Evan...I know I'm forgetting someone)

But I don't think I got to meet Toadless, Maegan, Ty, Laura etc.. :(

    ReplyDelete
  102. Thanks to everybody who are sharing their PE pictures! I am blown away by the number of really neat (and high quality) pictures. I guess it's all part of the digital camera/Internet age.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Tracy, I have a TON more photos. Including many many of the amazing John Michael Bolger who is the sweetest man in showbiz, as we all know. I am just taking a photoshop break for the afternoon as my eyes are starting to spin in their sockets! Look for me to post more tonight and tomorrow. Did you talk to me when you were so close? Have we met? Because I know we've emailed a lot and talked about getting together. Forgive me if I'm forgetting... I am running on little to no sleep!

    ReplyDelete
  104. angie - thanks for delurking! Your photography is lovely thanks for sharing = )

  105. awesome...Thank you! No we haven't met...I wasn't sure sure it was you...but thought it was you and but so hyped up about the fact the JD was about to come out so....I'm hoping sometime in the next week or so we can get together and meet! Did you ever get a chance to watch the DVD slideshow? I have so much to add to it now!

Thank you for posting more pictures!

  112. Well, I;m officially blown away by the speed and scope of the Internet Age...

Yesterday afternoon I stand in a street in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin taking
photos of Johnny Depp walking out of his trailer...

This morning, those photos are featured prominently on a Japanese Johnny
    Depp Blog...

    http://jonylove.blog56.fc2.com/

(sure, they're uncredited and if I did this for a living I'd be peeved, but it is worth it to have an international story like this!)

    ReplyDelete
  113. Cricket... Michelle was rocking out with like 6 of us trying to snap JD moments!! She did an amazing job. But I'm sure she is tired of looking at all the photos of me making faces at here while testing her flash :) You should have stopped down.. .we were having a blast :)

    ReplyDelete
  114. Ooh, you're on the map now, SP! You haven't lived until your photos have been filched onto Japanese fan sites! Ha. That was the first time I realized how big this whole thing really is.

    ReplyDelete
  115. The Japanese sure love Johnny! I see Rods pics are on there as well!

    ReplyDelete
  116. You're in good company sunprairie - Rod's pics are there too and so are Suz's among others... = )

    ReplyDelete
  117. There was a question about a let down.

I really don't think there will be any. It's not like they were here that long to be let down.

Universal might be leaving but in their wake is a new found togetherness and many new friendships.

Many people now look at Columbus not as a small nowhere town but as something a little more special.

That by itself is making people sit up a little straighter.

BTW - in my sickness here I have been working on The Columbus book.

I gotta say - it is going to be pretty freaking good.

I also am catching up on Battlestar Galactica tee hee

    ReplyDelete
  118. Awesome...is the book something we can buy...

Can we submit photos to be in it? That would be fun to have lots of people stuff in the book! I'd gladly give you a disc of any or all that you want.

    Tracy

    ReplyDelete
  119. Angie.... GREAT pics!!! Thanks for sharing them!!!

SP... yuppers thats the internet for you.... I have seen your pics on MySpace already as well as Michelle's etc. Its falttering to have your pics all over the world, but yes, some acknowledgement would be appreciated considering what everyone has had to go thru to get those GREAT shots!!!

    Thanks all for sharing....

I know I appreciate all of your pics/videos/stories etc!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  120. any comments on wink wink nod nod?

    ReplyDelete
  121. cricket - this is a book that is sort of a collection of photos from Columbus. I would love to see your disk.

At first I was going to have all sorts of photos from "common" people. blurry or not. However - PROBLEM - people like Michelle, sunprairie, jessica, and many others have come forward.

WITH THAT SAID - I'd love to see your stuff. The room is limited unless I want to charge $50 (all proceeds are going to the Save The Auditorium fund).

    I'm working in sections.

The building on the town, Extras, actors, old cars and so forth. I'm realizing that space is rearing it's ugly head.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Thanks to those who have given links to their photos! If anyone else took pictures from the meet and greet on Monday or Tuesday, I'd appreciate it if you would post your photos and give a link. I'm trying to find out if someone was able to take a photo of me hugging Johnny Depp last night or shaking his hand on Monday. :D

    ReplyDelete
  123. OK - wink wink nod nod.

I was TOLD (have not seen first hand YET do to a powerful cold).

That a few NEW signs have been showing up taking the place of old signs and that some signs have been creeping onto other streets.

Plus I know Universal has asked permission to use The Brothel on and off again until late June.

    It's all I know.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I will send you a disc of what I think are my favorites/best ones...

I would pay the $50...it's a good cause and a great way to remember our time in your town!

    Where should I send them?

  128. Everything that has gone on in the past few months has absolutely drawn me in to the movie business. I find myself thinking about behind the scenes careers whenver the topic of a future career is brought up. To me, film production appears fascinating, and I can definitely see myself working this kind of job. Still in high school, but have NO idea where to go from here. I think I heard someone mention film school earlier? Any thoughts would definitely be appreciated!

    -Amanda

    ReplyDelete
  129. As a follow up, I am also wondering what type of people are ideal for this career, and whether it is extremely difficult to get your foot in the door! Thanks!

    -Amanda

    ReplyDelete
  130. Robbi - tHANKS for posting those! I especially like the one you took of us with your arm waaaay out there = )

also the cactus laying on the ground is hysterical. I like your low angle shots of the cobbles, makes the street look soooo wide.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Amanda.... AWESOME that you are still in High School and looking towards a career! Kudos to you!!!
Talk to your HS counselor.... do research on the internet... look for the things that appeal to you.... camera work, set design, costume design, acting etc. Look for the things that you are passionate about. Once you have found the avenue that you are interested in.. then you can start to research deeper the ways to get to that career. There are a lot of film schools across the country...
I wish you all the best .... and am proud of you for looking into what you want to do in the future!!!

  132. Amanda--I know that UW Oshkosh has a great Radio/TV/Film program. Very reputable. I have a friend who did it and now works in Hollywood. I don't think it is as hard to get into the tech stuff. Most people just want to be stars :-) Good luck!

  139. I am finally home after a crazy 24 hours of travel without sleep, but you know what, IT WAS AWESOME! WORTH EVERY SECOND! I asked Johnny for a hug and he said, "Of course, darling. Come here." He is so sweet and kind to all his fans. My fan status has multiplied, if that is even possible!

For the record, Rod, it was 2 trips to Columbus, although 3 were planned. I was able to cancel the first outing when things got rescheduled.

I was really entertained by people wondering if Connecticut girl made it into town. It was so nice to meet you all! I felt like a celebrity myself and very welcome. I LOVE WISCONSIN!

If anyone has any other photos to share, i.e. did you catch a shot of me hugging Johnny?, my e-mail is tanya_feke@hotmail.com!

  142. Nice pics Ty! I think that's the best Marion pic I've seen yet. The close up of JD in the car, really looks like some facial reshaping (wonder how they did it?) looks like more than just makeup...

your shot of JD on the pharmacy steps almost looks like he is falling... yikes!

Cricket...i can download videos from youtube...(you can too if you download the program)...but if you don't want to i could download it and email it to you if it's not too big.

Michelle....that lens was prolly the 24-70 2.8 nikon. Super nice....but $1500...which is way outta my price range. What lens did you use last night...and did you use any flash? or just at the meet & greet?

Thank you Columbus and everybody we met...We are still so tired, and it looks like we are both getting sick now...sore throats...

  148. tami, "lotus - Did you make it down to Columbus yesterday?"

"Sadly, Lotus did not make it," she said weeping softly. :( She was all ready; car washed & filled w/gas, cell & camera batteries charged, extra memory card, $$$. But when Lotus awoke, she was in pain (arthritis) and ill (poss. strep throat) and did not have the energy to move out of the house.

Lotus is starting to think that, even if they were filming in her back yard, she would not see it! Call it FATE or BAD KHARMA, it's apparently not in the proverbial cards. (Wailing pathetically!)

I posted one of him talking to us as we joked around about the "accidental" photograph that was taken in between takes that JD saw. Of course he didn't have a problem with it, and in the pic he is pointing to Jerry ( I think that's who that is), who all found it to be rather amusing.

It was by far the best experience ever.....from the kindness of the town...the crew....and Johnny of course.

Now it is a running joke in our house. Evan just looks at me and says it and bursts out laughing and wants to know if I took the short bus to Base Camp. Which is rather humorous seeing that Evan himself would be taking the short bus if I didn't drive him to school.

My picture is on that Japanese website. It's easy to see which one since the date on my camera wasn't set on Monday and it says 2003. I also got an email from a gal at johnny-depp.org asking if they could put my pics in their gallery (with credit and a link back to my blog). I bet some of you did, as well.

What a great recap here! Some amazing photos...Rod is going to have a very tough time picking and choosing. Thank you everyone who is sharing such amazing pics! Very impressed with those I met, as well.

  180. Thanks for all the compliments on the pictures!

Osh - I think I was even more excited meeting Colleen than I was Johnny. I did theater costuming all through high school and now am re-accessioning the costume collection for the museum I work at. She's been a hero of mine since I was in middle school. I just happened to see her walking through the crowd by base camp in Oshkosh and ran full sprint for half a block to catch up. I introduced myself and told her what I did for a living. She asked about the museum, and the collection, and let me walk with her for a block or so and find someone to take the picture. She was extremely nice, especially considering I was in total fangirl mode, and probably not making that much sense :D

  182. An interesting note: As I mentioned yesterday, Johnny did not fly out early Wednesday morning as was originally planned. He was supposed to fly back to Los Angeles after the late night shoot in Columbus. Instead, another flight was arranged on short notice to take him and the rest of the people in his group to Nassau in the Bahamas later on Wednesday morning. A break from filming, perhaps? Or possibly filming there, as well. Not sure.
Also, Shakenbsis, in case you didn't see my comment from yesterday, I really like your profile picture! ;-)

  186. Woo hoo! I got my first paycheck from Public Enemies.... Movie Making....that's EASY money....lol!

Watching the amount of time and energy involved in making a movie like PE over the past few months...it's surprising that movie tickets don't cost $20/each and that dvds don't cost $100 to buy. Wow...makes me tired just thinking about the logistics of everything.

So many good stories...i think you're right Rod....this positive momentum is going to last for awhile!

  187. Any news about Chicago filming?

  188. Toadless, it took everything I had and 3 people to keep me from walking onto a live set and grabbing Collen Attwood for a quick hello. I can imagine how grateful she is not knowing about this.

  189. Correction- My bad. Johnny did not leave to go to Nassau on Wednesday, but are scheduled to do so on Thursday as of now. The plans keep changing, but that's the latest.

  190. I felt down yesterday; (partially due to sleep deprivation), but am
REALLY down this morning after seeing all of the wonderful shots from the meet and greet after Tuesday evening's (Wednesday morning)film completion. I really think I would have stuck it out to the end if my camera hadn't died on me earlier even though I had to be at work at 4:30 AM. Now I wish I would have stayed anyway and perhaps someone else would have "caught" a picture. At least I would have had the "moment" Perhaps some day Johnny will be back in Wisconsin, (Columbus) to do another film and NOTHING will keep me from staying until the very end.
Vicky you got some great shots! Thanks for sharing.
Suz and Tami, I'd love to see yours too.

I love your inside information =)

  195. Sue, Lynn and Anonymous 7:59 - I emailed you the photos. They aren't nearly as good as most of the ones I've seen, but I'm still thrilled to have them. : ) If I ever get lucky enough to see something like this again I am going to take my old film camera. It takes much better pictures than my digital. (Wish I would have realized that before now! - It's a newer camera).
