The Mind Is Drawing a Blank

It's Monday morning and I have nothing to say. Last day of a home vacation and amazingly I'm not going to Madison. I'm depending on others to cover the events. Sadly my REAL job is about a block away from the activity.

Bad timing.

DJ and I watched BLOW last night and it was a pretty good movie. Not what I consider a great acting performance by JD but good enough to be entertaining. it was funny to watch Pee Wee Harman. It was on HDNet on Direct TV.

One funny scene in the movie is near the beginning. JD is on the beach and off shore is a large ship, which is drifting to the right about 80 miles per hour.

Th movie takes place mostly in the 70's and I remember that time and those events a little too well, YET, I'm still alive AND not in jail. NEVER CONVICTED!! LOL

Once we were having a HUGE party and someone brings a police radio into the room as a joke. Turns it on and what do we hear? A guy across the street is reporting the action to the police. He was a detective.

Things moved pretty quickly and professionally at that point and the party turned into a beer only party. I'm not sure how we got away with it but that guy ended up with over 500 beer cans in his front yard.

Then there is the story of my moms house when they went on vacation to Door County. We had a half barrel of beer and some guy steals it. We found it about five blocks away with the stealer sleeping next to it, IN HIS UNDERWEAR!

HMMMMM - that movie seems to have uncovered a lot of memories, many of which can not be printed. I wonder what the statute of limitations is.
---------------------
They continue to work on The Rogers in Beaver Dam. Notice the cactus in the front!

In the window of The Rogers

And efudd sent me these.
First one is Jason Clark.

And here is a shot of Graham and Dorff

That's all I have for today. I'll have a garden blog soon. :-)

See you tomorrow. VACATION time.

Rod

  1. Why do Dorff, and Jason Clark look like they just got out of bed?!!! Can't they find a comb? LOL

  2. I like your simple, get down to business post...meaning business=vacation time.

Anyway, I can relate to your 70s story...however, my has to do with getting caught at a church outing drinking Tequila!!

but, hey, them were the days!!

Hope you and DJ have a great day on the last day of your vacation. Happy Gardening. :)

ps ~ you need to watch Al Pacino and JD in Donnie Brasco!! Pacino was great and JD did a pretty good playing the real Brasco. I love seeing JD in movies with the real classy actors. It's obvious he has admiration for them!! :)

  3. Hi,
I am sitting here having coffee with my friend Tracey, the same Tracey that went to Kurth's Friday night. We viewed the pictures of the Auditorium on Michelle's sight because Tracey's computer is still on the blink! Does anyone know of someone who can help her with her computer??? She is missing a lot of fun stuff on this sight. Lets get her back in the loop! Hopefully we will see you all on Friday at the Kurth. I am one of the many anonymous bloggers. Have really enjoyed this Blog!!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Anon 9:44 - Do we get to find out your name? or do we have to wait until Friday? :(

    ReplyDelete
  5. I should make an I Love Grinder page at IMDB!

Anyone interested- Cbus mayor's blog says this:
"What I know right now is that Johnny Depp will be back in Columbus for filming on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Wednesday will be in the downtown area in the afternoon / early evening, and will be the best place for "Johnny" sightings."

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wow. Our beloved gangsters are really having quite the bad hair day in those pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thanks for Friday (sneaky m) so nice to meet you all! We definitely need to get michelle in the pic next time.
Suz- good luck- keep us posted.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Being quite a bit younger, I'd like to hear your perspective on how the Blow generation, if I may call it that, (aka:Hippie) becomes standard middle class 2008. Is today's world better off? Worse off? Does Blow or any of JD's movies for that matter show the truth of that era? Which scene rings particularly true?

    LOL...have a nice day!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Apparently gangsta bedhead is the new style. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Anon 9:44, I could possibly help with your computer tribulations, but I'm in Ohio...so I guess I really can't help unless it's a simple problem I can talk you through.

And I agree about the imdb people I tend to not post over there as much as I used to unless someone really gets me in a tizzy or they're asking for information that I happen to know. People can be so rude. But...I also met some of my best friends on imdb, so they're not all bad.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hey anon 9:44
Tell Tracey I'll remind Terry about her computer, and hopefully he can stop over tonight to look at it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think if you look at that picture you can see that their hair is actually okay, but there's "stuff" in the background that makes their hair look tousled.

Computer issues I may be able to help with. Email me at PackerGirl@gmail.com and tell me what's going on with her puter.

(self-serving moment) The interview was okay, but they are just looking to beef up their regular staff for the summer, so no real excitment. (/end self-serving moment)

It's a beautiful day for outdoor filming today! And...of course, Wednesday is slated for rain. Sheesh.

  12. Madison Filming Update:

My hubby works downtown and spotted the action. They are currently filming on the capitol steps. Roughly 30 police officers are posted around the perimeter and the fans are being kept across the street. I guess it is really hard to see anything unless you have a pair of binoculars because they are staying very close to the building.

That's all I have for now.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wow. I can honestly say that Beaver Dam would not have been on my list of places to stand in for Tuscon. You've got to admire their creativity.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I really enjoy watching Blow I have seen it several times. To me the soundtrack is great... one of my all time favorite scenes from a Johnny movie is in that film.
I think the movie is fairly accurate in protraying the 70's drug use. The authorities really did through the book at George Jung, I think he is still in prison.

    ReplyDelete
  15. George Jung - in the Spring of 2002 his daughter did pay him a visit and said she was sorry for not coming sooner.

He is scheduled to be release on his birthday at age 72, Nov 27 2014.

  17. I took the pics of the boys in the bar, and yep...Clark's hair really was a terrible mess. The pic did do it justice. I think it was Spencer Garrett that had made the comment about Clark looking like he just rolled out of bed, it was quite funny!
In Dorff's defense, he had been wearing some sort of wig (longer on top, with side part) for the filming and probably just pulled it off to get a move on.
They were good sports for letting us fire off random shots!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I just watched Blow on Saturday too. :)

Wlkingbluepirate - that is a great scene. JD is just smokin' hot in that movie.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have yet to see this Blow movie...However, Evan LOVED Sweeney, so now I must buy it instead of renting it.

Have y'all y'all decided on the handshake or attire for Wednesday yet? And this blog has invaded my dreams...Rod had set up folding chairs in the streets for all of us and had RESERVED signs placed on them, and we were roped off from all the other riff raff gawkers...I know, right.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hey, just wanted to let everyone know that they are filming at the capitol here in Madison (I saw PE crew signs and trucks everywhere). You have a pretty good view of seeing actually filming and other things from the East side of the building and there is a rumor that Christian Bale will be signing autographs later. I'd definitely recommend getting over there if you can!!!

I guess the hair issue is why they wore hats back then! lol...

    ReplyDelete
  23. On my way to downtown Madison. I'll left you know what I see!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. let.. Not left. Trying to type on my phone while driving. Not recommended. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Any rumors about anyone signing anything are hooey. Nothing is guaranteed so I wouldn't rush down with the expectations that CB will sign. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I was taking my kids for a walk downtown Columbus about an hour ago. Three flat bed trailers with old cars driving through town. 4-5 other vehicles with "motion pictures" on the side following behind. my kids were excited.

Just thought I would let people know.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Is there any action at the Poser Mansion?

    ReplyDelete
  28. The excitement is building! I was just at Julie's Java (yummy blackbean sandwich & mocha latte with 100% milk) and there was a film guy there - his truck had a sign in the window that said "film crew!"

Rod, I'm off to check your garden blog. I don't know if you like to get free plants from other gardeners or not, but I have some if you are interested.

Osh, I don't think you dreamt that. Rod is the author of the #1 Blog and he can set up anything he wants, especially in our Mayberry.

Hey, how about we all wear red dresses on Wednesday?

    ReplyDelete
  29. jenny.

Not sure. I didn't go that far. Poser house is a bit of a hike from downtown (Sharrow Drug area)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Soapbox moment -

Texting while driving is not advised. Please be safe and keep all the rest of us on the road safe. I have lost too many friends to car accidents involving someone paying attention to something else.

Off soapbox. I just don't want anyone to get hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  31. OK, I am nervous now...should I be in Columbus Tuesday and Wednesday? Cause Tuesday is just bad for me and I hate not being able to choose between Columbus and my husband.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Osh - then just pick one. Come on Wednesday when a lot of other people are planning to. That's supposed to be the best for viewing.

    ReplyDelete
  33. OK, Wednesday it is. I just don't want Mr Mann pulling a fast one on me.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Did they ever go to Milwaukee? I thought they were supposed to be there the weekend of May 2nd. When are they supposed to finish in Madison? I was hoping they would be in Madison through Friday.

    ReplyDelete
  35. We've been told here in the big downtown of Columbus that they won't be filming until next Tuesday the 13th. All the old cars were brought in and then shipped back out. The filming in Beaver Dam is suppose to be the same day in the morning and then Columbus in the afternoon and evening.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anon, where did you get your info? The mayor's blog says tomorrow and Wednesday.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Info is from the Location Director, Adam Boor. He just told us this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  38. any credibilty to the anon posting at 2:18?

Don't worry I was just in en empty parking lot while I was driving. Not on the road, I never to that.

Just got home from Madison. Pretty neat. Lots of old cars and extras. No CB though, not that I could see anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  39. FOr the filming on the 13th, is Johnny Depp supposed to be there or are they filming scenes he isn't in? It's a long drive to Columbus for me so I would really rather not go there if JD isn't part of the filming that day.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Someone told me they are planning on filming in Milwaukee on Wednesday, however he will not tell me his source, so I don't know about the reliability of it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. did see a shiny black escalade with Indy plates. Got a pic of it and a few of the older cars. They were filming on the streets in front of the cap. Side note: the flowers are gorgeous!!

    ReplyDelete

  43. In Oshkosh they rode around in Expeditions. That is what I was told by the real stalkers.

And I am confused as all get out now...next week in Columbus?????

    ReplyDelete
  44. yeah, this was an escalade.

yes, i am slightly confused now. next week for columbus?
mayors blog and city site all still say wednesday may 7th...
as of right now, im still planning on being there on wednesday. are we wearing red?

i did overhear two of the set people talking to a bystander...
    all i caught was
    "is he here?"
"no, tomorrow, tomorrow he is here"

no CLUE as to who/what they were talking about....

    ReplyDelete
  45. Maegen, just a word of advice. 99.9% of bystanders really have no idea what they're talking about. Take anything of that nature that is said with a grain of salt. And enjoy the experience in Madison! Thanks for keeping us updated!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sadly, I don't own any red dresses, but I will be with a young man in a fedora and possibly Michelle...

I am still planning on Wednesday. I even got the OK from Evan's school for him to take the entire day off for this "once in a lifetime event", never mind that he had almost a week of once in a lifetimes in Oshkosh, but still...
I have an appointment Wed morning, so I won't leave Oshkosh until 11 anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  47. i live 15 min outside of madison, so i couldnt resist going down and checking it out with my sister in law.

oh yeah, of course i didnt believe anyone said. i was just there to watch. the bystander was talking to guy with a walkie talkie..he was the one who kept yelling "pictures up, rolling, action, cut" etc...they did that about 10 times... those poor extras..they walk all the way up the road, and then they say "reset" and they walk back.

i took some pictures, none of which were taken during "action". is that ok?
if so, i will post them on my facebook page, and send you guys the link. they arent anything spectacular, but still neat.

ill be in cbus around 1230...i will be with my husband hes tall about 6 ft and our little guy, in a blue stroller. :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. So Rod, no Columbus on Wednesday then?

    ReplyDelete
  49. so this is confirmed rod?
    not until next tuesday columbus?
    where did you find out?

    wow, this is frustrating.

    ReplyDelete
  50. ::shakes Rod::

where are you getting this information from? what is going on? we need to know! WE NEED TO KNOW!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anon is correct. Confirmed - I talked to Adam Boor - location Scout.

Monday is the Poser house Tuesday the 13th is Beaver Dam in the morning and Columbus in the Afternoon.

HOWEVER - I was warned - schedules CAN change (REALLY?)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Mass confusion----
    so next week ?????
my friend said beaver dam tommorrow her friend is an extra....
she will let me know for sure tommorrow if he doesn't show up for work..
We saw Blow 2 weekends ago and I loved it ..my favorite Johnny look is when he goes home for the 1st time and is in the Jean jacket and ponytail.
I am glad you filled us in on the daughter seeing George Jung.
btw the little girl who portrays the daughter is Julia Roberts niece.

  53. Hey guys...I think the red dress is hard but we could all wear a red flower and that would make us stand out nicely....pin a red flower to your hat or coat....:) I think we would all be helped if everyone would put a number date behind the monday here...tueday there thing... I believe it's were most of us get confused...if I'm reading correct ly no columbus until May 12th? but of course this could change....Jenny I assume you gotthe binos warmed up and will tell us when you see set up for base camp?

    ReplyDelete
  54. I promise to report any goings on in my parkinglot!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I, too, have heard about the date for Beaver Dam & Columbus being changed until Tuesday the 13th. A
Columbus friend was in Beaver Dam
today and stopped at the Rogers to get some photos and talked to crew members and Adam Boor. Hopefully the weather will be nicer then than it is supposed to be this Wednesday and everyone will be able to rearrange their work schedules AGAIN! I think the red flower is a great idea!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wow! You guys ahave been busy today! My emotions ran the gamut as I read through the posts jsut now...
Meagan, glad you got to see some filming today!!

    Love the bed-head shots!

Hey, on the news someone from Hollywood just coined WI, "The Third Coast!" Wonder what that means??? Whatever it means, Gov (?) Lawton intends to keep it that way!

Kathy - you crack me up!

    ReplyDelete
  57. dino - i'm reading your blog and relating to your gypsy ways... gotta go finish! = )

    ReplyDelete
  58. Lotus says, "WAHOO!!!" Maybe I'll actually get a chance to see some movie activity, other than the dreaded Truckanosis, if Cbus filming is actually next Tuesday.

    ReplyDelete
  59. char, tami, fanfromwi:

Are any of you interested in going to Cbus next Tuesday, May 13th, if the schedule does NOT change again? I actually have that day off, so could participate in an adventure!

    ReplyDelete
  60. the red flower sounds good to me.
i will plan on next tuesday then.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I can be there on Tuesday next week, all day. However, if it goes into Wednesday I might be in trouble and will have to change a lot of things around.

    ReplyDelete
  62. im so glad we have this blog. i would be totally lost without it. and osh, i think it was you that said you dreamed about this blog...
    i totally did too!
i had a dream that there was a special tent that had a sign on it, saying, "reserved for public enemies columbus bloggers" and inside were all the actors from the movie, waiting to meet us and take pictures and stuff.....haha! yeah..only in my dreams!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Maegen, it wasn't my first PE blog dream.

    LOL

    ReplyDelete
  64. Lotus, I'm not sure if I will be able to go next week I have to work. Even though I pretty much make up my own work hours, by boyfriend (who would probably go with me) might have to work. I'm not going to even think about asking him to switch for a while, seeing that I've been making him go here and there for everything. I really want to go to see another filming date though.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Man, all these schedule changes make my head spin worse that Linda Blair in the exorcist!

My boss has laughed @ me the last 3 times I changed vacation days, not sure if she will maintain her sense of humor!?!?

Tuesdays are bad for me, but I could slide up to Columbus early in the afternoon perhaps......URGHURGHURGHRRRRRR

SO are they going to Milwaukee some this week (it does make sense if it rains, that location is inside shooting)

    ReplyDelete
  66. You are not alone in the dream boat...we are way to in to this...but hey...it's fun and we're meeting people...

Red flowers will be a good marker...see you next week....unless things change yet again...:P

    ReplyDelete
  67. fanfromwi, I totally understand about the work issue. Wish I didn't have to work, ever, but then wouldn't have any $$$ to go anywhere. It's a vicious circle!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I don't see why you couldn't Maegen.

    ReplyDelete
  71. lotus, I would definetly be up to going to Columbus next Tuesday. Would you consider leaving early afternoon? I would work in the morning ( i work in Merrill) & could leave work after lunch. it sounds like there wouldn't be too much going on in the morning anyway. Any thoughts? I like the red flower idea.

    Char

    ReplyDelete

  73. Two simple questions for anybody in the know:

    1. Does it look like all of the Madison filming is now completed?

    2. Any ideas about what's up for tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Those are not simple questions by any stretch of the imagination.....

    ReplyDelete
  75. here ya go, not much, but something.
    http://tinyurl.com/69eclz

i said earlier that a bystander was talking to one of the guys with a walkie talkie (he was also telling extras where to go and what not) this lady asked him something, and he said, "no tomorrow, he will be here tomorrow"
like i said, i dont know what they were referring to, NO CLUE...but thought it was interesting.
    enjoy the pics.

  76. I have been following this blog since this whole Public Enemy whirlwind hit my town. The vehicles are all sport utilities, but everyone is different. There is a Cadillac, Ford, GMC, amd some smaller hatchback like SUV's, but the distinction is the Indiana plates. Just thought I'd help you out. I was totally amazed by the whole process that I watched for a week. I am sad that is all over.
Thanks for Little Bohemia. Now I just want them to open so I can go have my first drink there of the season. Great blog, by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  89. tami, work IS a four letter word! I understand and feel your pain, esp. about the auditors. Used to work in accounting. (weeping softly) Yes, let us know if things change. Auditors change their schedules, also, just like the movie production.

char, I'll have to get back to you on the schedule. A friend from work wanted to go, also, and because it is such a long trip for her we had thought about leaving very early. Not sure if she's really going, though, so I'll have to let you know.

I just checked out the Star Struck Bloggers Blog

They are planning on wearing red flowers so they know ea other when in Columbus..

He should wear a real big red flower and the construction crew guys he is dissing will say hello to him.

They will have more respect for him than he has for some "construction guy".

Oh by the way why wasnt he invited by the owner of the 33 Graham to be in the shooting in Madison HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

    ReplyDelete
  95. ya know we should all bombard the blog with nice things about Rod...keep them so busy they don't have time to gossip...or at least keep their line of blog littered with praise for Rod...:)

    ReplyDelete
  96. I have to agree with you on that cricket, I think we all should go there and speak/type words of praise about Rod and all the good he has done for the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  97. send me a link...I'm more then willing to do it...

  98. Hey Osh...I have a picture of the black escalade Johnny was in...in Oshkosh. Not sure how to show it to you though lol. Email me for it if you want irena67@aol.com His hand is waving out the window and everything but most of the day the car (and his driver) were parked behind the Masonic Temple. 108. I am assuming (trouble right there!) that Dorff is the guy with the plaid brown shirt on? I can't get over how much he would fit in with the WI bar crowd. Well, at least the bars I know of.

  109. Well Rod, I really hope that you continue to keep this blog up and running because I love it here. I trust this information any day over that crap they are so called talking about over there, by making a bunch of stuff up because they have nothing better to do.

  110. fanfromwi....you're right! it went into my spam. yes, this is so cool. we met on the porch. You had the awesome camera. I lost track of you as the evening went on. Did you stay until JD did the walk by? Did you get many pics? I just have a canon powershot so by the time night came i didn't really get many good pictures. Thanks so much for letting me know who you were! Hope things work out for next week!

  111. I WAS invited with Scott and his 33 Graham.

This might sound bad but I had better things to do with my time then standing next to a car for 15 hours and not being paid anything.

It was way way fun for 1 week though.

As for being stuck in the middle - only if I sit in the middle. I'm gone so they are like two oreos and no cream filling.

    Just boring cookies now!

Me and the other guy were having some fun but then others decided to get personal and started attacking.

    Game over.

  112. No we didn't stay around. I think we left around 4:00 or 4:30 went to Madison to get something to eat and then came back home. But I finally got to meet him in Oshkosh. We will have to meet in person again.

  113. Rod, it is said that people never understand greatness! Not that I'm saying you're great, or anything, but what you've done is great and people are probably jealous. And since no one is reading this, I'll say it, "I do think you're great." Just don't let it go to your head! (Because from your blogger caricature your head is big enough already.)

  114. Sorry Rod, I guess it's not a caricature, but a toy. Is it a bobble head?

    ReplyDelete
  115. It's a bobblehead from headbobble.com

the same place Dwight Schroot got his!

  116. not that i EVER doubted rod, but looks like the mayor is confirming the filming change.
"Filming date has changed again. It is now scheduled for NEXT Monday and Tuesday in Columbus, May 12th & 13th. Please keep checking for any updates. I don't know yet which day will be in the downtown area, but will post as soon as I know anything more."

  117. Tuesday afternoon is when you want to go. Monday is the Poser house (or as Mary Poser wants it to be called The Bordello).

BTW - Mary Poser is an awesome woman! A walking history book of Columbus.

  118. Hang in there Rod!

  119. To anon who met Bale:

That's awesome! I have a friend who is a big fan and was wondering if he would sign tonight. I'm happy to hear that he did. Thanks for sharing!!!

  120. So, what are the chances that this whole thing gets rescheduled again?
I will be up north all weekend, and I will be so ticked if I go, and they switch the filming to this weekend.

I did a little reading about the Poser family. Weren't they doctors?

  121. herenotthere writes on IMDb:
We're in a very remote location tomorrow so don't even bother ... and then move BACK to the Dells later this week ... for how long? only Michael Mann knows ... but we're there for him (and the rest) no matter what. looks like we'll be working 6 days / week for the rest of the show ... a long time ... Actors strike effect? We don't know, but we're all preparing for alot of hours away from home and loved ones ... cheers !!!
Lets see how accurate he/she is...

  122. Hi everyone,
Here is an update from the Bale signing...He didn't get out of his car because he didn't have a bodyguard but since the crowd wasn't listening and was crowding the car, he didn't sign too many autographs before taking off. I didn't get one but I did get some grainy pictures as I was respecting the no flash rule that others were not respecting. It was madness and I felt that those of us who waited hours and were in line got ripped off due to those who chose to shove and push and not listen to the police. I can only hope this doesn't happen again for everyone else's sakes. One girl was so upset she was crying. A kind boy who was wheelchair bound saw her crying and gave her his autograph. That was so wonderful of him and if he is reading this, you are a good person! No sighting of Rory Cochrane, the one I was looking for and we were told that JD wasn't here today. I can neither confirm nor deny that they may be back in Madison on Thursday. I heard that everything was up in the air. I hope everyone has a good night, I'm off to bed! Peace everyone!

  123. Maybe Herenotthere is really Johnny Depp!! Except I think he would be more respectful to Rod, so I guess not.

  124. With the schedule changes has anyone heard a buzz on where Tuesday (today's) filming is going to be?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Karen at JDR had posted this and I thought it was really good about filming and expectations. Hopefully it is ok that I reposted it here. I just thought it helped to put things in perspective:

    "From Karen":
I know we all have a great time keeping up with the filming and if anyone is trying to get on location and are getting frustrated with the lack of schedules, please remember that first and foremost Universal's job is to make a good movie.
Not fit into people's vacation time or to accomdate fans. So I hope we can cut them some slack and still have fun following the filming news and maybe spotting a star here and there. But we want a good movie too and a stress free environment for them all.

  126. Thanks for posting that Rachel...I agree with Karen completely. We're lucky to be able to catch what we can but they are not there to see us or perform for us live. They're doing their job. I was annoyed by people in Crown Point yelling "when are you going to call wrap?" They are free to leave. If you want to stay and be quiet and patient you might be rewarded by a star sighting or a hand shake...but that really is not what they're there for...

  127. This morning WBEV/WXRO confirmed filming schedule change to Tuesday May 13 for Beaver Dam & Columbus.
