Postcards from a Small Town

I received my first batch of Postcards that I am creating. I hope to have a set of eight when it's all done. Four photos from Michelle and four from me. This got me thinking about what is out there already for older postcards. So here are a few that I have found on the net.

BTW - WHAT did people do before the internet! The Net has to be one of the Wonders of the Modern World.

This one is labeled "Normal school, Columbus, WI". Was the name Normal? or is this a "Normal" (typical) school? Is it still around?

Ludington Street, looking East

James Street, looking South

James Street, looking North

City Park Columbus?? Where is that??

Yummo - Dry Milk - from dehydrated cows?
Rest Haven - City Park Columbus

And here are the two I have in the works - disregard the "safezone" stuff

This looks much better live - I received them yesterday

I'll post Michelle's post card(s) once she gives me the OK to go ahead and order them. Did I mention I'll have a set of eight?

-------------------------------
Having Direct TV I can order HBO for four or five days so I got it to watch Recount, the story of the Florida recounting in 2000 election. DJ and I are socially liberal and financially conservative (in theory) so I was of course sitting on one side of the left side aisle during this movie. After all - I AM the poster child for freaks that managed to live past 30 (I am as surprised as anybody else).

Dj and I sat down (knowing how it ended) and were riveted for almost two hours. In MY view it all came down to when Joe Lieberman switched sides and became a Republic. BUT - I'm not here to rile people up - I mention HBO because I then switched to Showtime last night and watched The Tudors for the first time.

Anybody watch this show? I loved it. Now I have to get Season 1 from Netflix because I did not have a clue what was going on.

And don't forget - The Mole is on Monday.
-------------------------------------------
May 29th 1848 - Wisconsin becomes the 30th State in the United States.

In 1634, French explorer Jean Nicolet landed at Green Bay, and became the first European to visit the lake-heavy northern region that would later become Wisconsin. In 1763, near the end of the French and Indian Wars, "Wisconsin" was a major center for fur trading and was passed to British control. Twenty years later at the end of the American Revolution, the region came under U.S. rule and became part of the Northwest Territory.

In the first decades of the 19th century, settlers began arriving via the Erie Canal and the Great Lakes to exploit Wisconsin's agricultural potential, and in 1832 the Black Hawk War (centered around my home town Fort Atkinson) ended Native American resistance to white settlement.

Black Hawk was an interesting person. His name was really Black Sparrow Hawk and he went against customs and married only one woman (Singing Bird) and remained faithful.

For a very interesting account of what happened to Black Hawk go to Biography of Black Hawk.
------------------------------
Speaking of albino deer - here are the photos Laurie took up near Little Bohemia - they are sort of FREAKING me out.

hmmmm - have I uttered the name Johnny Depp yet? There. Man - life without a movie is hard!

BTW - congrats - you guys must be REALLY bored - over 200,000 pages read!

  1. Rod... the post cards are AWESOME!!!! How can a gal in Cali get her hands on them? Still interested in chocodiles?

WOW!!! Those albino deer are incredible! I have seen one before, but to have seen two together! What a cool thing! Thanks Laurie for sharing those with us!

Hey, what can I say, we were having some fun last night.... I just hope Vicky didnt drink ALL the rum! ;)

  2. The Tudors...I was obsessed with all things Royalty as a child and well past the child stage...I watched season one and just about had a heart attack watching and yelling at the TV at all the history that was so blatantly ignored in the name of "good television"...I haven't watched season 2 yet...I know how it ends...I might have every book on Anne Boleyn ever written.

    The deer are interesting indeed.
    I do love your postcards.
I believe JD is back in Chicago.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Tudors.... I love this show! Last season is a MUST see! and if you can, try to see the ones from this season that you have missed.
Let me know if you cant get it from Netflix.... I will lend you mine from last season!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Sadly Osh... you are right. The Tudors does not follow history so closely. As far as I have read, there was NO proof that Anne gave birth to a son, but was rumored to have lost a son (miscarriage). Can you shed any light on what you have read historically?

  5. When I was a kid my brothers and Dad used to hunt. We had 90 acres of land--woods, marshes, and fields. This was located in the Holy Hill area. They claimed there was a white buck with a huge rack of antlers. They called it the "Gray Ghost". Many hunters saw it, but no one was able to get it. My mom and I always secretly hoped that no one would get it. I almost thought of it as a legend. Maybe it was. Maybe it wasn't--could have been an albino deer. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Rod--looking forward to the postcards. We will have to purchase some for the scrapbook, for sure!

  6. Wow...creepy deer! I've lived in Wisconsin all my life and never seen an albino deer...my mother in law has hit 29 deer though...and totaled 8 cars... a bit of worthless info..

osh-did the lady with plane info tell you that hes in chicago?!
    :)

  7. I should have Season 1 disk 1 by tomorrow.

As far as history - I figure it's a TV show and you can just turn off REAL history - it's entertainment.

I'm STILL pissed at HBO for screwing us over with Deadwood - the BEST show ever on TV.

chocodiles - I can order them online - just curious if you had them in CA.

Showtime - loved Weeds also (of course).

    ReplyDelete
  8. Maegen - you mom has hit TWENTY NINE DEER??

I know I drive to work every day and there are five dead ones beside the road (along with three raccoons and a cat).

When we drove to Texas they had dead armadillos beside the road. It was a welcome difference for road kills! Nice to have variations.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh my word! You guys made me recall something so funny. I was on a road trip out West with my husband and my nephew. After awhile, everything looks the same. You know how you get "slap-happy"? When we were bored, we started commenting on the road kill. Sometimes we couldn't identify it, so we started saying "UFA!" Which stood for Unidentified Flattened Animal. Then it became a contest to see who could yell "UFA!" first when we saw one. Corny, but funny.

Now I better get to the laundry. Blah.

    ReplyDelete
  10. We loved Weeds too! Season three is in the Netflix queue.

I'll have to watch the Tudor's now - I was wondering about that.

Normal School - it was a two year school to train teachers. Does not exist anymore. :( I'll have research and figure out where it was. There are postcards of the three schools on Dickason - beautiful schools that were dismantled for no good reason.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Does anyone know what they are doing on HWY 151 in Sun Prairie? They are putting up metal brackets every 10 feet and running metal cables through them... What is it for??? I drive past everyday and I'm going batty trying to figure it out.

    ReplyDelete
  12. mother in law... mother in law!! lol!! i am not related by blood!! :) lol

    yes 29 deer!

she works as a nurse and she works 6pm to 6am so she is driving at dusk and at dawn...the times when deer are running! normally she hits the most deer during the rut!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Johnny's plane is enroute to Chicago as of this moment....

    ReplyDelete
  14. My mother in law averages like 1.3 deer a year! sometimes...if its a "good" year..she hits 3 deer! she did two years ago!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hey Rod, I hit a dead skunk and few it up and my boyfriend was behind me. At first he didn't know what it was then he saw the white stripe coming towards him. Both vehicles sunk for 2 weeks; maybe more. I used so much stuff to get the smell out of the car.

    ReplyDelete
  16. ha ha ha.... I am not gonna post which airport.... I dont want the stalkers to have that info...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jenny to ME it looks like some sort of fence but for what purpose!! ???

BTW - mommy sick at home today!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Fan ~ the BEST stuff to get rid of skunk smell is REAL vanilla! Not the imitation stuff.

My dogs get skunked from time to time.... I just wash them and then pour the vanilla on them... and ta da! No more skunk smell. Tomato juice doesnt work BTW!

    ReplyDelete
  19. hmm...my sources are conflicting about the arrival of Mr Depp.

    ReplyDelete
  20. and about Anne...her son was stillborn IRL.
believe she was the true love of Henry's life, but his need for a son and the ravages of syphilis and other illnesses made him bat poop crazy and he had no other way out but to kill her.

    ReplyDelete
  21. According to flight info... Johnny's plane is about to arrive in Chicago...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Laurie--AWESOME photos!!! Thanks for sharing. And thanks to Rod for posting them. Now I have another species of wildlife to search the Northwoods for!

minxie, you're a fun girl/pirate! Got any good rum drinks?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I had didnt know Henry had syphillis. I guess that would explain his behavior at times.
Wasnt Jane (his 3rd wife) the cousin of Anne?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Those post cards are awesome! I used to help out with the Normal School annual reunions, so this is what I know:
The Normal School was located near the old hospital, or on the site of the old hospital, I've been told. The grape arbors are still there, behind the garages.

There is an annual Normal School Reunion here in Columbus, although the number of attendees is dwindling, and it is now at the Capri.

Those albino deer are curious animals. 29 deer must be a record!

I am wondering the same thing about the fence on 151. Someone crossed the median and hit DH head on on 151, and all three kids were with him. Nobody hurt, but I can't think that kinda thing happens often enough to warrant that type of fence.

I posted a loooooonnnnnngggg response to Booyah on yesterday's comments, if anyone is wondering. It also inspired a long rant on my blog. And all because of cheese curds! Now I'm starving for them.
Why is the rum always gone?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lotus ~ no rum this morning... its a little too early in the day~ =0P

    ReplyDelete
  26. minxie, Not in Wisconsin! You should move. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Catherine Howard, the 5th wife and 2nd beheaded was Anne's cousin on her mother's side

    ReplyDelete
  28. We make jello shooters with rum mostly...
We also make Minxie's Pinkies : its made with Alize (red passion), 7-up and twist of lemon. Tastes just like a pink lemonade.
We also make Pony Rides: raspberry cider, black cherry cider and a float of Chocolate port wine. Refreshing and delicious!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I thought he suffered from gout. Didn't know he had syphilis

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hey, I just might invade WI! ;) Sounds like a great place to live... only problem, living in So Cal all my life... I dont do well in the snow!
I have some rum recipes... you can email me if you want them.

Thanks Osh, I couldnt remember which wife was the cousin.

    ReplyDelete
  31. actually, there is no conclusive proof Henry had syphilis, I should have stated that. It is a popular school of thought.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jenny, I have heard that they are indeed putting up a traffic barrier on that median. But, Kathy, I too wondered why... preventing errant vehicles from crossing into oncoming traffic is laudable, but there's thousands of miles of open 4-lane in WI-- why there, specifically?

This reminds me-- maybe someone else can tell me what that bigass pipeline between Columbus and Sun Prairie is for, the one they've been working on for months? I've seen them working on it south towards Marshall, and north near E.Bristol. That's a lot of torn-up ground. The section near 89&T southwest of Columbus runs right beside a very old cemetary.

    -Mary

    ReplyDelete
  33. City Park Columbus - It's Fireman's park. The red building in the background is the Resthaven building. The stream still runs through the park.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Love the old post cards, Rod! I've found some like those of Beaver Dam (one of the Rogers Hotel, by the way) online too!
Minxie, a friend makes "apple pie" shots for Packer games. YUMMIE!!! And so smooth! LOL
    The albino pics are fantastic.
And I'll be waiting to hear more about your set of 8 (EIGHT) postcards, Rod!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. movie star wife-- that area around Holy Hill has plenty of legends; it's an interesting area, to say the least. Remember that guy about a year ago, a county worker picking up carcasses, who claimed a wolfmanlike creature grabbed one from the back of his truck before loping off into the wooded hills? Sober-sounding guy too. Basically the Holy Hill environs, and along the Kettle Moraine hills north to Ashford, has lots of cool stories behind it. And a ton of Native American petroforms as well.

    -Mary

    ReplyDelete
  36. That is an oil pipeline I think I heard - goes forever.

Have you guys read The Mists of Avalon?

mary - Rickie Weeks news - No one has ever scores 120 runs with a BA lower then .250. People are down on him but he is scoring runs like there is no tomorrow. One of the BEST base runners in baseball and his On Base Percentage is still around .340.

    Awesome game last night!

    ReplyDelete
  37. We had an albino squirrel where I grew up in the wilds of Brookfield. Beady lil' red eyes, big bushy tail.

Rod- love, love, LOVE the postcards! I had to find local postcards some time ago, and was disheartened to see only the word "Columbus" stamped onto stock Wisconsin footage of wildlife and luridly-colored lake sunsets. Which could have been taken in Idaho, for all I know.

And if you keep HBO, promise me you'll try to see "John Adams" when they rerun it. I seriously worshipped that. Last night HBO ran a 40-minute profile (reruns tonight) of "John Adams"-the-book author David McCullough; he is totally charismatic and adorable in a very quiet and humble way. I think you guys would enjoy this miniseries, based on stuff you have mentioned enjoying.

    -Mary

    ReplyDelete
  38. When it comes on again I'll watch it - we missed it the first time and figured I'd get the DVD when it came out.

I read poor reviews about the lead actor (I loved him in Sideways)not being able to "get into" Adams and how ALL the other characters were great.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Speaking of Movies

If you have not seen "Stardust" - you MUST watch this movie!!

    Outstanding!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Rod, we agree about Ricky. His bat will come around. The beauty of sabermetrics is that all those stats hint give a hint of the unquantifiable: the mental makeup of the player. Take Weeks. Clearly his BA slump is not reflective of an overall crisis of confidence on the field or behind the plate, otherwise those other numbers would be low as well. So he's good, and soon he ought to be better.

    -Mary

    ReplyDelete
  41. I LOVED Stardust. The preview didn't look so great though.

The Tudors is a great show. I rented the first season a few months ago. Now I have to wait for the second season to come out on DVD. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Aww Rod, the reviews you read were few and far between. Most reviews I sought out (again, subjective compiling, of course) were awestruck at Giamatti's portrayal of Adams, particularly as he aged. I kinda liked Sideways and didn't mind Giamatti (son of you know who, right?), but I became a MAJOR fan after seeing him in JA. He. Must. Win. Emmy. And yeah, all the rest of the acting is fabu-- in particular, Th. Jefferson and Ben "Jammin'" Franklin are jawdroppingly incredible. I gotta shut up about this as of now.

    -M.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Paul Giamatti was in Donnie Brasco!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I never put Paul Giamatti and Bart Giamatti together! WHO KNEW!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hey... did you all send your WI sickness to Cali? I think I am getting something... ick!!!!!
    I need my airborne!

    ReplyDelete
  46. minxie, I think the illness got to CA by way of the defecting WI cows. :0 Don't worry, they'll come back to WI soon.

Speaking of WI cows, back to the cheese dialog of yesterday. WI cheese is better, probably because the milk stays cooler in the utters. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thanks Kathy - mystery solved!

Minxie - I know, it's weird they show them here. I think partly that's why I find them so hilarious!!!!
Me and my old roomie used to laugh hysterically everytime they came on (we were roomies in Cali years before too)

maybe they're not that funny if you haven't lived in both places...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Rod - LOVE the postcards!

    and the albino deer... wow!

maegan - you're blowing my mind, but it shouldn't be that hard to believe, I guess. On the way back from Osseo I was counting dead deer on the side of the road, I hit 12 before I got to the Dells and quit counting!

I remember armadillos down south, and alligators in FL (talk about STINKY!)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Have any of you seen The Other Bolyen Girl? It was really fascinating and it has given me the urge to read more about that whole "Henry" era.

    Char

    ReplyDelete
  50. jenny - i was wondering the same thing!

DJ - I'm bummed you are stil illin'!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Defecting cows bringing infectious ick! Not a good thing! =0P

Cold utters would make for better milk I would think.... anyone ever had the milk fresh out of the vat from the dairy? OH SO CREAMY GOOD!!!! and VERY cold!!!!

I accidently ran over a dead armadillo while in TX once... thought I had hit a serious pot hole! Those things are a trip!

Char... I have been wanting to see that one.... was it good?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh... and i have told my friends about the curds.... they are all wanting to try them.... might be starting a new trend in Cali! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. hee hee - a new trend... maybe we should start advertising about WI cows in Cali? (and cheese curds)

    ReplyDelete
  54. I've had raw milk, just minutes from the utter. Did not like it at all! Don't like it warm with cream on it. Yuck! Lots of people love it, though.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Havent seen WI cheese ads in Cali for some time.... guess the Cali dairies wanted the monopoly!

Lotus ~ yeah, straight from the cow, warm is not so yummy... but when it is diary vat cold... it is great! (at least I think so)

I wish I could share my farm fresh eggs with you all.... my chickens lay almost a dozen a day! No hormones, etc... just great tasting FRESH eggs!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Great postcards Rod...can't wait to see Michelle's too.
Put me down for a set.
    :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Rod, Great Postcards!!!
    Can't wait to see Michelle's.
Love the look of the old ones...

DJ Sure hope you feel better soon, nothing more crappy then a Spring and Summer ill.

Maegan, Yikes! Maybe she should go out for the Guinness Book of World Records!hehee!!

    Albino Deer look really cool.

    Speaking of Armadillo's~
We were on a road trip through Texas and ran over a armadillo, when we looked in the rear view mirror it was spinning like a top.

    Yum Fresh Eggs!

  58. The Postcard that goes around the world.

IDEA - send one (or more) postcard(s) to various places. Once it gets to a stopping point town and country are written on the card and it is sent to a new place.

Problem #1 - how would you put a new address on the postcard.

Problem #2 - stamp - just peel off the old stamp?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Minxie...I really liked it. I want to read more about that time period to see how accurate it really was. Ann's sister Mary is the "other" girl. At the end of the movie they state she actually had a daughter by Henry who ruled England for (I think it said) 50 years. I think there are a lot discrepancies in all of this and in all of the writings about this era...it will be fun to look into it more thoroughly.

  60. Sorry, folks. It's udder.

  61. Rod,

The County Normal School was up on the hill, on the corner of S. Charles St. and Selden Street. The white trellis you see on the postcard I believe is still there and can be seen from Charles Street.

Talking about all these car deer run-ins, my wife was hit by a deer Sunday morning at about 10:30 in the morning…at the intersection of Harrison and S. Ludington!!!! Nearly on the former PE set.

  62. I found Finding Neverland at Target for $5.50 if anyone is interested.

BTW-I saw all the comments yesterday and thought there was a lot of new and exciting info, and it was all about cheese curds!

    ReplyDelete
  63. You are saying cheese curds are not exciting?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Very nice postcards! Yours and the old ones! I just love that kind of stuff. We had schools around here named 'Normal'...talk about your politically incorrect!!

Maegan your MIL scares me more than the albino deer!!! LOL

    "UFA" too funny!!

I posted a 'Today in History' on my blog today too!! Couldn't resist, mate, when I saw it was about Wisconsin.

    Keep up the great work...

    Karen

  65. I am excited about cheese curds!!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yes, cheese curds on very exciting. But not quite as exciting as Johnny!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Sorry-I meant to say I found Finding Neverland at Target for $6.50, not $5.50.

    ReplyDelete
  68. suz: "You are correct," she uttered, "I did not go to the normal school." I accept my dunce cap, although it is utterly deplorable.

    ReplyDelete
  69. OH boy....check out the newest National Enquirer....ugh!

I blame Rod for this travesty!!!!!

(Thanks Osh for telling me they come out on Thursday afternoon in Oshkosh)

  70. The Dry Milk Plant was where the (former) Mosinee Paper building is.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Rod, the post cards look great! I also love the idea about the travelling post card...

Here's an idea on how to send it. You could put the postcard in an envelope and mail it that way, each person would just need a fresh envelope. The only problem would be that it kind of defeats the whole point of it being a POSTCARD. However it would still work. Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Also, I'm just wondering, but how are you able to follow JDs flights so closely?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Ok Rod... are you gonna scan the NE so the rest of us can see it? hmmmm?

    ReplyDelete
  74. JP, I haven't been to the store yet...I took a long nap instead. Am I going to have to beat you?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Ooppsy... I meant JP... NOT Rod.... LMAO!
    JP... are you gonna share?

    ReplyDelete
  76. MR JP is distracting with his muscles again.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Oh Osh - How did you do it? The two pirate babes are crying for momma = )

They just woke from a 'cat nap' (what else!) and want MILK! who can blame them????

  79. Shakenbsis... how is momma doing? The babies are weaned arent they?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Minxie, this was a couple of years ago. But if that ever happens to me again I will know what to do then. Thanks. My boyfriend used a bottle of the fabreeze sp? and the smell was still there.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Betty, I don't know...Dillinger is a nose licker at times and he does sleep on my head, but we keep him too busy to cry. Or he keeps us too busy. I did discover today that he sleeps longer if all the lights are turned off. LOL.

And JP, I checked NE online and you are not famous there yet.

  92. Hi all,

Rod, those are great postcards...can't wait to see the rest...
As for the Mole next Monday, there is a Wisconsinite in the bunch. Mark, who is tall and dark haired, is a colleague of mine. He's a teacher and his daughter is my babysitter. Since he returned from filming, the kids can't stop calling him "The Mole" or "Mr. Mole". It should be great fun to watch...

As for skunk smell, I've used dish soap, peroxide and baking soda. Those three together work pretty well. I can't imagine how much vanilla you would have to use for a 100 lb. black lab!!!

Sue, any chance you have the URL of the Rogers Hotel/BD postcard?

UFA! Love it...we also call it Road pizza...a bit nasty but effective.

If you miss some of your HBO shows, HBO is now offering shows online. I received a introductory offer to view HBO on my computer...

Cool albino deer, but didn't know there were squirrels, too!!!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Here's Mark's bio...

  94. OK, back from the store...I read the NE...JP isn't mmentioned by name. He is safe for now. But it is a typical NE article about how Vanessa thinks Marion is a man stealing skank. And a pap picture of Vanessa and the kids.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Rod, love the postcard idea. The first ones look great. Can't wait to see the rest of the set. I'll have to set a set for sure. Also, thanks for including my albino's today.

Lotus, any waterfalls in your part of the state? I'm always waterfall hunting and looking for new ones.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I believe next week is the Michelle b-day celebration at the Kurth!!! And maybe a few others like Shaken B that have their b-days in the vacinity!!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Thanks Osh... glad to hear that JP is safe! (for now!)

Peg... thanks for that skunk recipe, not heard of that one. You really dont need to use too much vanilla.. not as much as you would think. I usually soak a washcloth and wipe the animal down. But real vanilla is pricey and sometimes hard to find... so I am thankful for your recipe.

  98. No problem, Minxie! I guess I'd rather have your rum recipes from yesterday's blog...YUM!
Hope you enjoy those curds when they come...nice and squeaky!

    ReplyDelete
  99. John - Are you the one who came down Harrison Sunday morning looking for the deer? My hubby was outside and he said that a guy came running down the hill looking for a deer who had just hit a car on Ludington.

Yeah, someone should bring cheese curds to Kurths tomorrow or next week for me and Michelle's B-Day's. We can put birthday candles in the cheesecurds and blow them out to make a wish! hehe!

Suz - I got the CD you left me in the mailbox. Thanks so much! Your the best!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Who else has their birthdays next week???

    ReplyDelete
  101. sign me up for bringing cake next week!...JP is walking a very thin line, but I understand that his children need skateboards and cheesecurds, so we might go easy on him. Once.

  102. Peg, I'm sorry I don't have the URL for the Hotel Rogers postcard; a friend sent a link to a site where you put in the city and I came up with five or six from Beaver Dam; I just saved them to my computer. I can send it to you if you'd like; or I can see if I can find out what the website was.
My email is:scrapper11@charter.net. Just let me know which you'd like.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Thanks, Sue...
    I just emailed you!

Are you celebrating JD's birthday too? I know it's not next week, but you may want to invite him...

    ReplyDelete
  104. I meant that comment to go to the Kurth's group, of course...

    ReplyDelete
  105. Great photos Rod! Will have to get some of course! Nice pics of the albino deer. I have never seen one in the wild before. I saw one at a zoo once, but I do have one albino squirrel that lives in a tree in my backyard. hard to get a pic of him though as I rarely see him until Late summer/fall time. Don't know where he is all the time. His nick name is Jerry (no idea why).

*Rum was good last night* Not treating me too well this AM though. Drinking rum and playing video games is a lethal combination LOL.

  106. I had my birthday this last week and Shakenbsis has a b-day coming up too :)

    ReplyDelete
  107. Vicky---Yep, that was Evan in his "Streetwiser" persona!

    Darn, I missed meeting you!

    ReplyDelete
  108. LOL osh! I missed meeting you too! I am sure that we prob saw each other. I was standing down by jenny's house in the beginning, but moved closer to the porta potties (not bc I needed them LOL) when JD came out. I had to go where my friends wanted to stand.

    vicky

    ReplyDelete
  109. I'm sure we will "meet again"!

    ReplyDelete
  110. kitty b'gosh: I don't know if there are "waterfalls" per se, but Eau Claire Dells in Marathon Co. has a lot of water rushing over huge rock ledges, etc. It's a great place to go. Obviously, you know about Copper Falls up north. Other than those, I haven't been to a lot of waterfalls. But I'll think about it and let you know if I remember any others.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Are we talking about Kurth's next week being the "bday" night? I had my bday about a week ago too LOL. Another excuse to celebrate someones bday would be awesome!

    I love cake hee hee!

    vicky

    ReplyDelete
  112. Bdays, FUN!!!
Mine's not till the 21st (amtrack painting day) I believe JEnny has an early June Bday, yes???

    ReplyDelete
  113. oohh... kitty b'gosh has a kitty pic!!!

    ReplyDelete
  114. kitty b'gosh, I forgot about the Wolf River Dells in Menominee County/Resevation. They are great, although I think you'd see more on a rafting trip on the river than just walking along the river.

    ReplyDelete
  115. anon - NE = National Enquirer, hence JP being in hot water! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  116. Thanks shakenbsis!

  117. Hey - I just finished reading the best book! Absorbing is perhaps a better word than reading. Only 1159 words, but over 500 pages I'd guess, though they aren't numbered.

Much finer than the best graphic novel I've ever seen, enchanting...

It's centered in a train station in the late 18-early 1900's, there are trains, wind-up clocks, early filmakers (Georges Melies), magicians, a mystery, two orphans and an automaton... FABULOUS!!!

It's 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret" by Brian Selznick and I highly recommend it. = )

    ReplyDelete
  118. Betty, mine arrived today!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Shakenbsis,

Your pages aren't numbered? That's interesting. Mine are and the last page number is 530.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Oh, you are so right, the text pages are! and it's 1933 (not late 1800's like I said before)
    hasty, hasty = )

    ReplyDelete
  121. "Mom is GREAT, gives us the chocolate cake!"

    *tee hee*

So.... any of you have any words of wisdom or miracle cures for this creeping crud?

    ReplyDelete
  122. LOL ~ "hasty, hasty" I know exactly what you mean.

Today after I pulled in my driveway from getting home from work I took my time getting out of my jeep. My husband came to the window and said, what is taking you so long(I had a bunch of stuff to gather up), I said, "so often I make waste out of haste and I'm going to take my time and get it right." he just shook his head and walked away. lol

you see, yesterday, first I thought I misplaced my car keys, but learned I locked them in jeep(getting into locked jeep wrangler is easy;) ~ then I spilled coffee on my cell phone ~ not good and had to think of Rod!!) ~ so that is why I said the waste to haste thing.

so moral to story ~ no more "waste due to haste"

    (sorry so long) :)

    ReplyDelete
  123. Yeah, my birthday is June 4th, Hubby's is June 3rd.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Michelle's is June 6th I think

    ReplyDelete
  125. Yeah...what was i thinking? The National Enquirer doesn't print credits....lucky for Rod i guess.

    ReplyDelete
  132. jenny - add NE2 on to the end I think

    ReplyDelete
  133. It says "This image or video has been moved or deleted"

    ReplyDelete
  134. SO, JP, the dealio is you have to come to Kurth's on the 6th and buy a round with your ill gotten money. Cleanse your tainted soul and all.

They bought five photos from me.

  143. That's awesome JP! I'm glad they didn't steal them from you!

    ReplyDelete
  144. JP!!! You sold out to the tabloid!!!! SHAME SHAME!!!!!

I agree with Osh, you should buy the drinks at Kurth's to cleanse your soul! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  145. JP can I put you on my blog with your dirty article? and your hot gay porn pic?

    ReplyDelete
  146. Thanks Minxie...
    Thanks Jenny.

    ReplyDelete
  147. and excuse me, you were wearing my stalking outfit Mr JP Sellout! You especially liked the lacy ruffled butt panties!

    ReplyDelete
  148. I read the NE article and found it interesting. Never seen JD's children before; they look like him. From looking at the set pictures, Marion appears to hug anything that doesn't move fast enough! So by NE's reasoning, she must also be chasing MM.

    ReplyDelete
  149. j^p, I started hating you early yesterday so I'm past it now. Glad you got paid. $$$ is the root of all...joy! If you're buying drinks at the Kurth, even I'll show up.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Although at ten months old I probably shouldn't be drinking. It will stunt my growth.

    ReplyDelete
  151. kitty b'gosh, you could also do a search for waterfalls in wisconsin there are many good websites out there.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I don't hate you JP. I'm just joking around with you, cheer up buckaroo!

    ReplyDelete
  153. minxie, what's happening in CA today? How can one (meaning me) get your other rum recipes? The weekend is coming up and I need something to do. :) Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum!

    ReplyDelete
  154. I know you hate me Osh...i'm "ok" with it :P

    Remember...this is all Rod's fault.

    ReplyDelete
  155. JP, hate is a very strong word...and did you have a chance to see how the collar lays?

    ReplyDelete
  156. Rum soaked Lotus.... you can email me.... the email is on my profile....
I will be more than happy to share some of our "pirate" recipes with you.... they all call for different flavors/types of rum....
Have you ever had a Mojito? Delicious!!!

Things are calm here in Cali.. except everyone from my party on Saturday is now sick with the WI bug you all had!!! I must have been infected thru the computer... LOL

    ReplyDelete
  157. No worries JP.... NE loves you!!! They have exclusive pics of the notorious hug from the French Vamp!!!! ;)
You never know... they just might want to have you stalk Osh and JD when they are together in the Caribbean!

    ReplyDelete
  158. No collar inspection today...i'll probably stop down tomorrow and check 'em out.

Yeah Yeah "enquiring minds want to know"...

oh yeah osh....feel free to blog it up...i'm almost famous...i have to enjoy these 15 seconds...
tho right now i'm bummed cuz the twins' softball team suffered a tough loss :(

    ReplyDelete
  159. So I guess now isn't the time to tell JP I sold my story and pics to People for 3K? And I am donating all the money to charity? For homeless kittehs and blind winos?

    ReplyDelete
  160. osh, you should have gotten more than 3K. People can afford to pay top dollar!

    ReplyDelete
  161. Night everyone. Loam Roked Lutas, I*I*I mean, Rum soaked Lotus signing off.

    ReplyDelete

    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  165. Osh!! Too cute!!! love the blog!!!

    ReplyDelete
  166. I'm afraid to look Osh..i think i'll save that treat for tomorrow morning :) ....and I did try People and Us first....they were too cool for me!
Us weekly has 65 of my pics so they're ready next summer when the hype starts to build.....
Your story with Evan is way better..sadly it's not slimey enough for the National Enquirer.
    :(
I can't wait til they run the "Johnny Depp has a man lover named Jerry article!" then watch out for the wrath of Shaken's sword....
    G'night all!

    ReplyDelete
  167. Uh oh.... JP... are these your pics being posted without payment?

    http://tinyurl.com/3pp79v

    ReplyDelete
  168. Yes, Jenny, that was me. I really wasn't into running though. He was busy working and had his headphones on. I don't think he would have noticed a sherman tank going down the street lol.

    John

    ReplyDelete
  169. Thanks Minxie....
Those "were" my pics...but curiously enough those were the five I sold the rights to...so I don't own them anymore...I guess it's the National Enquirer's problem....or NE has something to do with that website. I'll email the photo editor and let her know......and those shots are scaled down to less than half the resolution of the originals...but still pretty big!

    ReplyDelete
  170. I hope people don't take that JD/Marion story seriously. She's French, that's just saying 'Hello'! Vanessa is very cool, by all accounts, so she wont be upset by such things. They will be more annoyed about the pic of the kiddies and the invasion of their privacy.

Can't wait for the Jerry is the gay lover story! Though JD will have to fight for him with some WI ladies ;)

Do you have a link to the gay porn pic j^p?

    ReplyDelete
  171. maybe there wouldn't have been a JD/Marion bs storyline if JP hadn't sold out
I guess some "fans" had different intentions that others
    How sad

    ReplyDelete
  172. Hi anonymous. I think there are more photos of JD and Marion greeting each other. The story is not reliant on these particular photos, as there were some from Marion's first arrival on set.

Some sections of the press/bloggers have a down on Marion because of rather naive remarks she made, and I think this is a way of casting her in a bad light. Johnny must be the most faithful guy in Hollywood. Wrong one to try to pin a location affair on.

It will soon blow over and be forgotten, in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  173. BTW - JP - I think it is hilarious and ANYBODY that gets their skivvy's in a bundle is taking things a little to seriously.

NOBODY takes NE seriously - it's like the Onion!

And BTW - this only HELPS actors. Better to be mentioned in the NE then ignored!

    ReplyDelete
  174. Panties, Rod, panties. And I agree.

and a little something I noticed and shared over on JDR tjhat I found interesting...(copied from my JDR post)
Maybe I am the only one...but we have all heard that Emilie De Ravin is playing Anna Patzke, the bank teller taken hostage in Racine, which was filmed in Oshkosh. However, the more reading I am doing of different books and newspapers, it turns out that the bank teller was named Ursula Patzke
    http://www.theweylands.com/racinebankroberry.html

In the book Dillinger the Untold Story by Girardin and Helmer, Anna Patzke is identified as the common law wife of Dr Loeser, who performed the plastic surgery on Dillinger.

I just thought I would pass this along.
