NyQuil, Paging Dr. NyQuil

They say a picture is worth a thousand words so I'm ripping you off a little today on the word count with only 10 or 12 pictures from last night.

BUT FIRST!

An Extra told me last night that he is to report to Beaver Dam at 2:00 Tuesday after noon and bring sunscreen.

That means the Columbus shoot will be MUCH later in the day and into the wee hours of the morning.

This makes sense because Johnny D left Columbus about midnight last night. I know, I was there

What would possess a grown man to stand for six hours waiting for a glimpse at a mere mortal?

His wife.

But the real question is what would possess a grown man to STAY standing on a street for hour after hour waiting for a glimpse of Johnny Depp.

The reason is the same reason a normal male on a golf course will give the beer cart girl a $3 tip for a $3 bottle of Gatorade. That one in a ten million chance something extraordinary will happen. Once you are there standing on some else's lawn trespassing (John - I have pictures) you just KNOW that as soon as you leave Johnny Depp will come out, sit down on a chair and call all of his fans to gather around and listen to his stories.

Didn't happen,

However - what did happen is once again the people of Columbus formed a sort of union of friendship with people talking and laughing and shivering together.

So the first few shots were of a group doing the 21 Jump street Hand Shake. NOT A CLUE what that was as I never watched the show when it was on over 75 years ago.

Hey - they recognized me and took MY picture so I felt obligated. :-)

This is a photo of John and his son Brooks who was the VERY FIRST person to get a Johnny Depp autograph in Columbus. And I believe that is documented on video somewhere.

And what blog would be complete without a Johnny driving past in a car photo.

Christian Stolte came up and signed some autographs.

And then darkness started to take over the night and we waited.

John Michael Bolger a big Jenny fan (funny stories to come sooner or later) was a fan fav last night and he gave Jenny and dj a kiss on the cheek and made everyone laugh.

I'll have more on his Tom Foolery with jenny in the coming days.

This little girl had the thrill of not only getting cheered but also being held by Mr. Bolger

And the night wore on and on and on, the temperature is dropping , the wind is kicking up a little and legs are getting tired.

It's reaching midnight and finally they come out and give instructions, no screaming, now pushing no flashes directly in the face.

And then he was gone. Dj received a hug and she is still walking around on a cloud because JD was so gentle and talked right to her.

Shakenbis received some attention from Jerry when he asked her about her machete (it was not loaded) but they joked a little which was "too cool".

Thats it for now.

As luck would have it being a little sick and staying up late last night they delivered our (what I believe) full freaking grown Cleveland Pair tree so I have to dig a 6 foot hole in the ground this morning.

See ya later.
Rod

  2. See you LATEr, Rod!! You didn't say; how are you feeling?!! Hope
well enough to join in the party in Columbus today!

  3. Fanfromwi, they're filming by the
Rogers Hotel. Corner of Spring St. & Maple Ave.
    Hope that helps.

  5. Does anyone know where Base Camp is in Beaver Dam?

  6. Oh yeah, does anyone know if JD signed autographs in Beaver Dam this morning?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I don't know for sure, but I don't think JD was in BD at 7am this morning. He didn't leave base camp last night until midnight and we heard the cast has an 11:30am call today (of course, that could have changed after we heard it). It may be later now seeing as Rod said the extras don't need to be there until 2:00. He's probably still sleeping. Lucky guy - I'm going on 3 1/2 hours of sleep...

  8. If JD left Columbus, does that mean he won't be back for the shooting this afternoon/nightime?

  9. Hey Jenny,

I left you a message on last nights blog and don't know if you saw it. So I'll repost here. :)

I cannot remember if I got you that address. I think you did but my mind is foggy. Also, did you get a copy of the photo of all of us "bloggies" with JMB? Finally, we will have video of the nice talk JMB gave. Would you be interested ? Just let me know :)

20 questions with Jenny is now done :)

  10. Will JD be in Columbus tonight? I too was going to go down last night but didn't. I only live in the next town over. I knew I should have gone. Thanks for everyone's updates very helpful.

  11. Evan just woke up and is upset I didn't bring him down last night! What is a poor mother to do! ARGH.
    LOL

At least he was able to sleep in today in anticipation for our all nighter tonight.

  12. Arrrggghhhhh!
I wish I didn't have an exam tomorrow. It would be a blast cranking up the ISO to 6400 and trying to get some good night shots tonight.
I trust Rod and everyone else will take plenty of pictures for the rest of us who are forced to live vicariously through them.....

  17. Minxie - neither Suz nor I recognize anyone from the blog in that shot, but you never know. We did see a few of those folk out there.

The reporter who took some of those shots must have been standing very near to me (the ones near base camp) as they were very obviously taken right before or after mine and from nearly the same vantage point...

  18. Yeah Rach - Suz's hospitality has been a huge blessing, I was in no condition to drive last night!!! = )

  19. Could somebody give us distant virtual visitors a brief outline of what happened last night? I have tried to add up the various reports, but feel very confused about the events in Columbus during the past 12 hours.

    1. What were the hours of the night shooting last night at the Poser House? What time did they finally finish filming? Did Johnny do a meet and greet afterwards?

    2. Are they done filming at the Poser House?

    3. Was Marion Cotillard at the Poser House filming last night? Did anybody see her? Is there any pictures of her?

    4. Approximately how many fans were at the Poser House and how many at base camp?

    5. Is today/tonight the last planned day of filming in Columbus?

    6. Is it suppose to rain in Columbus this evening? Would that effect the evening filming?

    7. Is Johnny still around or has he left the area?

Any information answering these questions would be appreciated for those of us who can't be in Columbus to experience it for ourselves:(

  20. After seeing the photos from the Portage Register, I am ticked off at myself for not going there! I live two blocks away and was too pooped!

Suz & Shakenbsis & Jenny & DJ and everyone else - post what you saw, pretty please? The photo!!! I wanna see it! Waaahhhhh. Tantrum still in progress...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks Shakenbsis..... I was just curious .... looking forward to seeing the pics that you all got last night....
and thanks for the pancakes and bacon.... Now I am hungry!!!! =0P

  22. WOW!!! Will there be a quiz later :)

    1. What were the hours of the night shooting last night at the Poser House? What time did they finally finish filming? Did Johnny do a meet and greet afterwards? Johnny did do a meet and greet about midnight after completing filming.

    2. Are they done filming at the Poser House? Dunno

    3. Was Marion Cotillard at the Poser House filming last night? Did anybody see her? Is there any pictures of her? She was make up testing not filming.

    4. Approximately how many fans were at the Poser House and how many at base camp? I didn't count but not as many as Oshkosh

    5. Is today/tonight the last planned day of filming in Columbus? Yes for now

    6. Is it suppose to rain in Columbus this evening? Would that effect the evening filming? if the script calls for rain it won't affect it.

    7. Is Johnny still around or has he left the area? Guess we will find out after they start filming in DB

Any information answering these questions would be appreciated for those of us who can't be in Columbus to experience it for ourselves:(

I really hope there are no more tough ?'s today.

  23. 1. What were the hours of the night shooting last night at the Poser House? What time did they finally finish filming? Did Johnny do a meet and greet afterwards?

    All day. Late. Yes.

    2. Are they done filming at the Poser House?

    Don't know. I think so.

    3. Was Marion Cotillard at the Poser House filming last night? Did anybody see her? Is there any pictures of her?

    No and no.

    4. Approximately how many fans were at the Poser House and how many at base camp?

    A good number.

    5. Is today/tonight the last planned day of filming in Columbus?

So far, but things change at the drop of a hat.

    6. Is it suppose to rain in Columbus this evening? Would that effect the evening filming?

Check weather.com for the forecast and you'll have to ask Michael Mann those kinds of questions.

    7. Is Johnny still around or has he left the area?

Probably still in the area - I would assume he's in these shots today. But no one knows for sure.

No more questions for you garyandyvonne - you've hit your quota for the week. :)

  24. this may sound really, really dopey but is there any way to get a message to jd? i don't want to shake his hand, i don't want an autograph or a hug (may daughter got a hug), i just want to ask him something.

    ReplyDelete
  25. garyandyvonne - I'll do my best = )

    1) I think shooting at the Poser House started mid-morning? I rolled in around 1:30 and they had just taken a break. They continued off and on the rest of the day and well into the evening. It seems most of the cast left not too long after dark and JD and one or two others continued. I heard that Marion joined them late (10ish?) though I didn't see her myself and things seemed to wrap around 11 or so. My vantage point may have some distortions but I'm sure others will correct = )

    2) good question!
    3) see 1 above
    4) Poser House - probably not more than 50 or so, considerably fewer most of the time. Base Camp - Jenny would be a better source but in the end a couple of hundred (2 0r 3 Josh?) i'm vertically challenged and therefore unreliable.
    5) tentatively! lol
    6) I heard after midnight. not sure if it is in or outside filming
    7) Johnny left around midnightish. My understanding was they were moving base camp (most of it) to BD last night yet and would be filming there in afternoon/early evening and then back here to Columbus afterwards. Again, this is just what I heard hanging around last night.

Correct away those of you 'really' in the know! = )

Thanks for keeping such an awesome blog, it's been great following him on here!

  30. Thanks to everybody who contributed information about last nights events. It is going to be very interesting when the film comes out and people who were at the filming scenes try to recognize where things were filmed. Time will tell, but it could be a strange distraction or a special benefit to those of us who were at "the scene of the crime".

    ReplyDelete
  31. Congrats to everyone who got to meet The Man. That includes you Rod ;)

Thanks for the pics too, you got some beauties! I really appreciate it. Dang...wished I could have been in WI this time.

Good luck on your hole digging, hope you feel better!

  32. That's cool that you got to the filming garyandyvonne. That must have been quite a trek for you driving that 20 hours! That is dedication!!!

Glad you had fun and will be watching for the scenes you saw. I'm sure a lot of people will.

  34. rachel, oops I didn't mean I was personally at the filming. Funny, after sending my messages I usually reread them and once in a while discover a blooper of some degree. In this case I meant "those of us who were at the scene of the crime" metaphorically as being part of Rod's Blog Community.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It is funny that PE started their filming March 17 in Columbus and will be (for the most part) finishing their WI filming in Columbus nearly 2 months after they started. Wow, two months has gone by. Columbus must be looking much different than it did on March 17:)

  37. Okay I have to let my fan girl out also---I was so happy to FINALLY meet JD! I tried to shake his hand, but as Suz pointed out to me afterwards, he INSISTED on hugging me. ;) (Thank you Suz for that! hehe). I think I still need documentation that it really did happen!! It was fun seeing Jerry flirting with Shakenbsis! ;)

Waiting in the cold was so worth it, and I have to thank Rod for being such a good sport. It was great meeting John Michael Bolger and Christian Stolte. They were really nice.

    What a night.

  38. Dj-

I don't know if you saw the post I made last night but down by us, JD made the comment to the extent of "tonight is hug night". (We will have to check the video) and from that point on it was all hugs.

Shakenbsis and I are going to throw down over Jerry :) But I'm glad that she got some special time with him .... for now .... hahahaha!!!

  41. Went last night...brrrr...
I brought my 4 year old as he wanted to meet Johnny. He even drew him a picture of a lion, and he couldn't wait to see Johnny. Well Jaxon fell asleep in the grass wrapped in a blanked and several jackets...when I tried to wake him, he wouldn't open his eyes- too tired. So poor Jaxon didn't get to see Johnny and when my mom took him back to the car, she left with my Rolling Stone mag that I wanted him to sign...I didn't get my autograph I was dying for..but I did get a hug!

Jenny, I could see you from where I was standing, I recognized you from your blog. I would have walked over to introduce myself to you all, but then I would have lost my spot!! I was to your right a ways down by the telephone pole, in front of the white house, almost at the end of the line. Oh well!

Hope everyone enjoyed their Johnny hug! I am way to tired to go back today, guess I wont get my auto afterall..

  42. 1. What were the hours of the night shooting last night at the Poser House? What time did they finally finish filming?

Filming wrapped at approximately 12:30 this morning.

    2. Are they done filming at the Poser House?

Yes, it seems so, unless they need to return to re-shoot something.

    3. Was Marion Cotillard at the Poser House filming last night? Did anybody see her? Is there any pictures of her?

Marion stopped in and talked with several of the actors during lunch, and visited the set in the afternoon. She had her hair and makeup done, but was wearing her regular clothes. Looked very cute, seemed really cheerful and sweet.

    7. Is Johnny still around or has he left the area?

    Still around.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hey Suz! Do you live on a corner? I may have been standing in front of your house on March 20th with my kids and a friend. My youngest brought some mud home with her. LOL I know the picture you show as kiddie korner was kiddie korner from where we were standing.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hi Rachel!! Yeah lucky for us! Maybe we looked so darn cold he thought we could use some warming up! :)

I'll let you and Shakenbsis fight over Jerry--just be careful, she is armed, you know. ;)

I'd love to see your video!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. To fellow distant virtual visitors. Here is a nice local account of events in Columbus in the Portage Daily Register (found posted at Johnny Depp Reads).

    http://www.wiscnews.com/pdr/news//index.php?ntid=286065

Below are two paragraphs for this report:

"Michael Mann is the director of "Public Enemies," which is expected to be a summer 2009 blockbuster. Depp plays 1930s gangster John Dillinger, who in scenes shot Monday visited the bordello with his gang members Martin Zarkovich (played by John Michael Bolger), Homer Van Meter (played by Stephen Dorff), John "Red" Hamilton (played by Jason Clarke), and Pete Pierpont (played by David Wenham).

The gang was welcomed into the bordello by a bank teller named Anna Patzke (played by Emilie de Ravin), as a couple dozen onlookers leaned on a Columbus police squad car with cameras in hand."

I am a little surprised by the inclusion of Emilie de Ravin in the bordello scene. Can anybody confirm this? If so, she has more than one scene in this film. That would be great!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh yeah.. I Forgot... she was armed.. carrying BIG stick :) We were going to do battling t-shirts but it didn't go down.

    If only Jerry knew.......

    ReplyDelete
  47. Emilie de Ravin was not in the scene yesterday. The actress is Kerry Mulligan and she is playing the owner of the brothel, Carol Slayman.

  48. Hey all- After seeing preparations of downtown firsthand, but sitting on the virtual sidelines for the actual filming the past two months, I am more than glad that I took the time to head up to Columbus yesterday afternoon. I spent some time at the Poser House, enjoying watching the old cars, the always hardworking and under-appreciated crew and the actors. When i was there they seemed to be shooting in the backyard, so, they would move a couple of cars in the street for deep background continuity, all of the radios would sound the alert "rolling," and people would get very quiet. Then, you'd hear "cut" and crew members would feverishly move the cars a bit further down the street for the next shot. There were probably about 40 people there when I was.

Then, I headed down to basecamp to see what was going down. After watching Johnny Depp drive away around 6 up to the house, I took some time to enjoy the quiet, yet beautifully decorated downtown. Then, along with some new found friends from La Crosse and Watertown, we settled in for a long wait after Jerry instructed the security folks to set up barriers on the curb. That was sign No. 1 that a meet and greet might occur. As more actors sauntered back to the set in white vans, sign no. 2 came when Jerry instructed a crew member to set up an overhead light rig on the dark street. There was a bit of disappointment in folks' faces when Depp headed out in his black SUV around 10 or 10:30, but we all figured that we had waited this long, and minding signs No. 1 and No. 2, we should stick it out. In typical Wisconsin weather fashion, many folks were caught unaware of the cold that arrived after the beautiful short-sleeves type afternoon. Sure 40-45 degrees seems warm for Wisconsin, but not when you're dressed for 70. But, we all kept each other company with stories, sarcasm and a number of theories. Then about 11:45, Jerry came by and told us all that Depp would be coming out to meet us. "No autographs," he said. But many folks did convince Depp to go ahead and sign. And, Jerry did shine his handy flashlight on each, as he urged others to just shake his hand and greet him.

As for me, my wife can never say that I don't think of her first anymore. Since she had to work today, she wasn't there, but I donated most of my brief greeting time to her, as you can see in this YouTube message from Depp to her:

    http://tinyurl.com/5s8rco

The rest of my photos, including the house, downtown, Michael Mann, actors and security folks are here are here...

    http://tinyurl.com/5wfrqv

Thanks again for the blog to Rod, who I met at the end of the night when I recognized his Whistling Straits hat. And thanks to the other folks who were there last night. Despite the cold, they made what in hindsight seems ridiculous (6 hours in the cold for 10 seconds of facetine with Depp) a night to remember...

  49. So does anyone know... Will jd be back in Columbus tonight? Hes in beaver dam now or will be soon, correct?

    ReplyDelete
  50. So Emilie de Ravin wasn't in the bordello as reported in the local newspaper? Didn't Will Rogers say, "All I know is what I read in the newspapers"? If Will was alive today, he might say, "All I know is what I read on the Internet."

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thank you so much Rod first pictures I have seen from last night. How can he be so beautiful at midnight after hours of filming?

  52. suz - had I known then what I know now we could have met! I had found this blog about a week before I headed down there I think.

Sorry I can't return the mud. It went down the drain. : ) We tried to stay on the sidewalk as much as possible and even commented on how we'd be upset with people walking on home owners lawns as soft as they were. Hope your lawn wasn't damaged too much.

gotta go back now and see Rod's post, weird to comment before seeing...

  65. BTW - this is not the last we will see of The Company in Columbus!

    ;-)

They will be back - if you have noticed there are some new signs leaking slowly/quietly onto other streets.

Also it is rumored that they have ask to use The Brothel on again and off again into June.

    wink wink nod nod

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hey guys,

Does anyone know if they will still do a meet & greet if it raining?? I know it will be in the wee hours but don't know if they will still greet anyone if it is raining? Anyone ever have this happen? I am coming from quite a ways away & I don't mind the late hour but kinda hate to wait for hours in the rain & then not have JD come out. I know, I know it is hard to count on anything but just wondered what the feeling is.

    Thanks!

  67. Rod...are you really saying they may be back???? I would be sooooo excited to know that! I keep thinging this will be my last harrah!! Oh, you have given me a light at the end of my tunnel for being able to skip the rain & cold tonight & coming back in June!!
You sound pretty confident. I even have my "Rod on the stick" ready. Thanks!

So we left downtown around 11:30 this am and then ran some errands came back thru town and more barricades were up but no black expedition in sight we asked one of the officers on duty and he said 2 pm. So I am letting the little one sleep until I can make it back into town. maybe see you there I will have a little boy in a green and grey stroller.good luck!!!

  83. I cannot believe there are already people at Columbus basecamp waiting. Some have been here since 9am.

You figure they probably won't even get back to Columbus until 7 or 8 tonight. Then they have to get everything ready for filming. So then they probably won't even start filming until midnight or 1 am. Maybe they'll get done at 4 - 5am. Then after that Johnny Depp MIGHT greet the crowd.

Those people have a long wait ahead of them!

  84. "Movie Star" was called for 3 more nights of work. Sounds like they ARE sticking around. I don't know where yet.

We are heading to Beaver Dam this afternoon. I finished the worst of my nursing exams. This is my reward! :-)

  85. Wow sorry about all the typos guys..little sleep has that affect after Johnny watching then getting up to go to work for the day!

    I think I was Michelle...but wasn't sure...

And I think Suz was behind me a the Poser house...I didn't see Rod on a stick or red flowers anywhere so...was a bit shy about walking up to people!

  93. It seems a couple of weeks ago the mayor of Columbus had a blog that said that there was going to be a scene shot in Columbus where "somebody gets shot dead in the streets". I assume that hasn't happened yet. And they can't be "shooting somebody dead in the streets" during a late night shoot, can they? [I realize that there is a lot of "shooting" in this paragraph:)]

  99. shakenbsis, thanks for your take. I guess I was assuming that Red gets shot somewhere and then later died somewhere else. (Of course Mann is known to fiddle with the details.) It's that earlier comment by the mayor of Columbus that I find strange.

BTW: I do recognize a lot of the same people here from over at the Johnny Depp Reads site. Unlike IMDd at times, people here and at JDR are (almost) always nice to each other.

  105. Does anyone know if the Extras get a chance to meet the actors? From what I saw in Darlington, they appear to be separated right until filming. I'm guessing there's not much chit-chat allowed during film takes. I get a chance to be an Extra in Chicago but wonder if I'm losing my opportunity to meet JD. Thank you! Hope you feel better Rod.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Laura, yeah there are about 20 fans waiting at basecamp, but there is no film crew. Only some trailers and a security guard. They won't be back in Columbus probably until 9pm.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Hello PE crew! So i just drove by base camp (columbus) about an hour ago and there were like twenty people looking at a vacant parking lot... hmmm.

I saw Jenny on her lawn too! So Jenny what time were you at your window this morning? :D still jealous over your perfect location. :/ Well you MUST tell me if you catch any word on david wenham coming! My hope is they cancel the shoot for tonight and do it wednesday night. That way I can recover from last night!

Also would like to say that school was HORRENDOUS today. With bags under my eyes and a burnt face, I couldn't help but just sit in class waiting for it to be over. But TOTALLY worth it! Do it again in a heart beat. :)

  111. What Jenny says. Drove past basecamp at 3:30pm, had a good look down the street-- and I thought, this looks like the day *before* filming. It just doesn't look like anything is going to happen for hours, at least. The set isn't even secure.

Showers seem to be developing in the southwest part of the state even as I post (I have five radars bookmarked, I'm a dork), so any shooting tonight may have to deal with the rain that was indeed forecast.

I'm seriously leaning toward not driving back down tonight... in hopes of another, better opportunity in the near or slightly near future? I'll decide in a few hours, reading posts for more info.

  114. If you're an extra, you aren't supposed to talk to JD. You'll spend allot of time watching him though. Don't worry though, you're there to act, if you want to meet JD, wait out behind the barricades with everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Thanks everyone for the info and pics, you guys are great - what a wild night it must have been....
Thinking of taking the ride over tonight. I keep promising to take my 14 year old daughter and am terribly nervous about catching her wrath if we are 'unsuccessful' ;-) I saw the action on March 18 and several glimpses of Johnny, now she expects the same...
BTW, I'm kind of feeling like a 14 year old myself.
    And it's a blast!

  116. Oh my goodness! Just leaving BD! Got an amazing shot of JD in the car... And watched some filming. We are going to get dinner and head to Columbus. :)

    ReplyDelete
  117. A lot of the extras that have watched Depp work have commented on how nice he is etc but no one has said how his acting is. Does he flub his lines, does he catch on quickly to what the director wants etc. Might sound weird I know but he always strikes me as someone that would take forever to do a scene. Anyone ?

    ReplyDelete
  118. omydearlord maegen.
what's the scoop! are they moving everything to columbus?!

    ReplyDelete
  119. We just left the Hotel Congress outdoor shoot. Johnny and Marion? drove up to the entrance and went in, over and over. Then they took everything inside.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Movie Star Wife -that is good to hear - I had heard they are not leaving the Columbus area for a weekish.

andy is right - actually you guys have a better chance of interaction then extras unless - like in Chicago there are special circumstances.

In that case a group of woman stood on a windy bridge for 14+ hours with wind chills in the 15-20s and no breaks freezing with no real winter coats.

    ReplyDelete

  123. Anon @ 5:43, I believe it was on the commentary tracks of "Fear and Loathing" where Benicio del Toro remarked how quickly JD would nail a scene, whereas he typically needed a few more takes before he felt he got it right. Gilliam also mentioned that JD isn't so much a typical method actor...more instinctual, I think he said. I don't know if this varies from movie to movie though depending on the character, director, other actors, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I can check in after being in BD until about 5:15. They were still shooting in the street there at that time... I watched about 6 takes of JD driving up to the hotel, getting out and unpacking a bag from the trunk. The giant cactus in the middle of Beaver dam was hilarious!

I drove through Columbus on my way home to Sun Prairie and was surprised that they took everything to BD. I will be amazed if they do anything in Columbus before 10 p.m. or later. I can't imagine how long it takes to tear everything down, move the entire cast, crew, cars, trailers, trucks and equipment to Columbus, let alone re-set it up and get it all to go.

Honestly, when I heard two locations in one day, I assumed they'd have a second unit for the shoot in BD that was set at the same time as the unit in Columbus, but it wasn't to be.

I was pretty surprised to see all of the folks sitting across from Base Camp in Columbus, staring at a vacant parking lot... That's devotion!

Thanks for your reply, yeah I have heard what other actors and directors have said but sometimes it's all a bit too lovey dovey. I just wanted to get some impressions from normal peeps.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Regarding Johnny's acting, he is known for doing his scenes in very few takes. He is always well prepared and knows his lines. Of course he flubs like everyone does but other directors have commented on how much he dislikes doing take after take. For example, on Finding Neverland, he had some scenes with Dustin Hoffman who likes to do many many takes. The director commented that Johnny nobly went along with it but it certainly wasn't his norm. I wonder how he's holding up under Mr. Mann who seems to like to explore every possible angle ad nauseum.

On another blog I saw that they are expected to keep filming in Wisconsin for another 9 days to finish off everything there. Then they'll return to Chicago with the Biograph scene apparently one of the first ones to be done.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Any people meeting any place in particular in Columbus tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  128. I actually heard buzz on the set yesterday from one of Johnny's stand-ins about a pretty funny story regarding Depp and Mann's working relationship. It seems that Depp can put up with the nuanced perfectionism some of the time, but they do butt heads regularly about just getting the shot done. The stand-in said that it is fascinating to watch these two butt heads in such close quarters, knowing that it is in both of their interests to make a great film, but it is also a bit uncomfortable when they are arguing over setting lights, and he, Depp, Mann and two light guys are the only people in a small room. Apparently, when Mann was fidgeting with lights yesterday in the Poser House, Depp finally got fed up with waiting. Mann said, "I just want to try setting a couple of these lights up there." And Johnny replied, "I don't care if you have to hang polar bears from the ceiling let's just get it done!"

    ReplyDelete
  129. They are not done filming at Mirror Lake. I've heard that from numerous sources. They'll be in the Lake Delton area for at least a few more days.

The cast and crew are really enjoying themselves in the Wisconsin Dells area. Plus that, people are leaving them alone.

Johnny dined at a Lake Delton resturant the other night and everyone knew who we was, but they left him alone. Maybe that's cause Brett Favre was in the Dells at the same time, at the same hotel.

I have been told they have alot of shooting to do in Chicago.

  139. Rachel - Yeah, I got the address from you. Unfortunately my one minute video of JMB is sideways and I can't figure out how to fix it. Hopefully your friends video turns out.

Adam Boor showed up at Basecamp when I was looking out the window at the crowd, but other than that it is still quiet. :P

Chelsea - I slept in this morning! My whole body ached when we came in last night, how about you?

    ReplyDelete
  140. GandV..... the Hotel Congress is really the Rogers in Beaver Dam. I guess the scene (from what I have read here) is JD and Marion driving up to the hotel and getting out... then they continued shooting inside.
    Hope that helps you....

I think it will be a little quiet for a while on here as everyone figures out when/where the cast and crew will be making the next stop tonight.... looks like it could be a VERY long night for a lot of people!

  151. Jenny try this, I found it in iMovie help.

BTW, it's been a blast reading and following along with this blog. Wish I could be there.

    ~CR~

iMovie can rotate photos or video clips in your source video or projects. This is especially useful for reorienting your images if you’ve taken a photo or video with your camera held sideways.

If you make a change in your source video, the change will be reflected in any future project to which you add the altered video. Your source video does not reflect changes you make to video clips in the project.

To rotate a photo or video:

Click a photo or video clip in your project, and then click the Crop button.

If you’d selected only part of a clip, the selection changes to include the entire clip because the crop applies to the entire clip.

    "Crop button image"

Click one of the rotation buttons at the top of the viewer (they look like curved arrows).

Each click turns the image by 90 degrees. With the new orientation, the image may no longer fit the project’s aspect ratio and black bars will appear at the top and bottom of the image (letterbox) or on its left and right sides (pillarbox).

To crop the image so that it fits the aspect ratio, click Crop in the upper-left corner of the viewer and adjust the crop rectangle to show the part of the image you want.

The size of the crop rectangle doesn’t exceed the dimensions of the aspect ratio. (If you decide you don’t want to crop your image, click Fit.)

Click the Play button in the upper-right corner of the viewer to preview the image.

When you’re satisfied with the image, click Done.

Because iMovie doesn’t alter the original media even when you rotate or crop it, you can change it or restore it to the original size and rotation at any time.

  186. They will be filming all night. If they weren't filming, Johnny would be in his hotel room right now instead of my parking lot.

If he isn't dead on his feet by 5am, he MIGHT sign autographs! I wish all the fans out there goodluck!
