You Just Can't Make This Stuff Up

I got an email from 33 Graham yesterday saying "You seemed a little off".

Yea - I was a little stressed yesterday. I get to work and a program that divvies out $12 million has a weird results and an unknown problem. Not a problem normally except I am told this HAS to be fixed in the next six hours. OK!

So I get back and fifteen minutes later my sup comes over and says - "let's go to Starbucks, we need to talk". THAT is never a good thing right? I don't really have time but . . . . . it IS free coffee!

And the rest is still a secret!

OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE!!!!!

So that is why perhaps I was a little off.
----------------------------------------
In the You Can't Make Up These Things.

I was looking at the paper this morning and there was an article about a new group of reality shows.

I'm not a reality junkie (SHOULD be called unscripted shows) but I do like a few. Survivor, Amazing Race, The Mole (non celebrity coming in late May) Ice Road Truckers, The Deadliest Catch.

If you have never seen Ice Road Truckers even anti reality people seem to like it. They follow truckers as they deliver loads across the frozen Canadian lakes.

There is a new slew of those "job" shows coming out.

Ax Men follows lumberjacks in the Pacific Northwest. I'm wondering if the Monty Python song is the theme song.

Verminators - On the trail of pest infestations.

Wrecked - On the prowl with Chicago tow truck operator. Good grief!

and a new show on CW that kicked The PussyCat Dolls ass in the ratings - Farmer Wants a Wife. Sounds fascinating.

Historical faux pa.

Remember that very interesting find about Jerry Clifford on the poster in the Auditorium?

Yea - pretty good story . . . IF IT WAS TRUE!!

That is John Clifford, not Jerry.

Thanks Sam for making me look like a fool! (but a very interesting one).

From Sam.

John Clifford ran for Congress in 1918, and was defeated by a very narrow margin (less than 200 in Dodge County) despite heavy endorsement from the press.

The mention of George Cohan's song "Over There" on the poster dates it to World War I. The song was written in 1917, and soon became the unofficial anthem of the American war effort. The poster quotes the song's refrain.
Over there, over there,
Send the word, send the word over there
That the Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming
The drum's rum-tumming everywhere
So prepare, say a prayer,
Send the word, send the word to beware
We'll be over, we're coming over
And we won't come back till it's over, over there
That makes the poster about 90 years old!

Serastes Duerre came down from Wisconsin Dells for the Madison shoot. Stuck around for a meet and greet and was able to get this shot of Christian Bale. I put a frame around it and bingo

Great shot Serastes. Were you about to get a big one on the lips from Christian??

Another photo from Meagan.

It's funny - I have lunch on the Capital lawn almost every day. We walk through the Cap and are so used to it we never look up at the amazing beauty of the dome (I'll take some shots tomorrow).

Madison is one of only two major cities in the world located on an Isthmus, the other is St. Petersburg (used to be called Leningrad).

This photo was found by debsmad - not sure who took it.

The reason for posting it is that it's a pretty nice shot AND it is Scott (alias 33 Graham).

And from 33 Graham

Here is the article from the Wisconsin State Journal Monday July 23, 1934 about Dillinger's death.

Anybody up for gutter humor????? (not required reading material)

I was emailing back and forth Julie who is going to be an Extra in Chicago (odd the dates THERE keep changing - it's not just Columbus). She wrote back saying "I've been told to bring a jog bra, nude nylons, a girdle thing (spanx) and underwear to the fitting. Sounds a little scary."

My reply was something like "Are you sure it was for "PUBLIC ENEMIES" or was there an "L" missing in Public.

BA BOOM!

Sorry to her and others - I just type what I am thinking, it . . . . . just comes out sometimes!

Cheers
Rod

  2. I was hiking up at Mirror Lake yesterday and literally stumbled upon one of the grand white trucks you guys are always gushing about in the back of the park. Sure enough, there were fellas there off-loading lighting rigs and just down the path was a collection of cut full-size pine trees and stands (think big Christmas trees and their stands). Also, in the middle of the park there was one road blocked off and beyond the barricade I could see two big white tents. On the way home I passed the car under the tarp that was gfeatured in the Wiscnews link above. Sure enough, the ranger was there guarding it. Talk about a cake job! And, just beyond the car, the windy road that leads to the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed cabin was lined with dozens of cables. So, as the article says, it appears that they definitely are not done at Mirror Lake. It sure was fun to get a glimpse of the hard work that goes into the "behind-the-scenes" of movie madness.

  3. Yea - cool - they will be there a good while from what I have heard.

Six days a week from here on out according to some.

  4. Just wanted to comment on the Johnny in a comedy movie discussion, I think one of his funniest performances was Pirates of the Carribean Curse of the Black Pearl. I know it was more of an action/adventure movie, but his role was to me more comedic. I would personally love to see him do Saturday Night Live, I think he would be very funny in that!

  5. Rod,
All I can say is "Superman 2", good job!, I like your new Ferrari. Nice pictures, I am still looking for some of the morning when the cars are driving.

    Thanks,

  7. The May issue of Wisconsin Banker mentions the blog and how nice Columbus is.

Author Becky Nelson did a fine job.

The part about the FIPCO (Financial Institution Products Corp to all of you normal people) is fascinating. :-)

  13. So does anyone know if they will be in Madison tomorrow? I heard from someone that Rory was flying into Madison on Thursday but that doesn't mean they are filming in Madison...Any info would be greatly appreciated :) I would love to check it out! Also, I have two semi good shots of Christian Bale and some beautiful night capital scenes for Rod but I don't know where to send to send them. I will upload them tomorrow and send them then. Also, how do I protect them from being stolen? I haven't figured that out yet either. I am new at the posting of pictures online thing. Thanks everyone! Peace!

  14. I tag mine with my name...or you can watermark it which i dont have the stuff to do. Look at my pics..i just put my name in the corner.

  15. Great pics Ty! Thanks for sharing.

I'n not trying to be ignorant, I just am. So how do you put your name on the picture? Does it depend on your computer program?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lindsey - you can go to my profile for my email address.

As for stealing - it will happen no matter what you do. Put a name on it if you feel like it (I can do it for you), it will help the honest people.

  18. I'm not trying to be a bad typist either, I just AM. Yes, ty, great pictures! Thank you. Also, poor guy extra. Hope he's OK. From someone who's a natural-born clutz, I feel his pain and embarassment.

    ReplyDelete
  19. hey no need to be sorry! I just use paint right now till i get photoshop up and running.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Photobucket has a new edit feature that lets you add text and stuff to pictures...FYI

    ReplyDelete
  21. Like Ty and Rod said, you can put your name on photos in most editing programs. The reality is though, if you're putting your stuff online, it's going to get sent around. So if you don't want it out there all over the place, don't put it out there to begin with. I started to watermark my images, but honestly it got to be too much work. I have over 400 photos on my Flickr and after awhile I stopped worrying about it. My thought was if Johnny was so gracious to be out there night after night, the least I could do is share my stuff. Of course, I realize and respect many photographers don't feel that way, and when I open my photography business I won't be giving out as many "freebies" either. But this was for fun, and I've certainly met a lot of great people through it. Which is more than I could have ever imagined when I started taking pictures!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Rod, I don't know what it is, but the PE pictures that you post in your blog look so good. Maybe it is the background, but anyway they vividly poop out of the page.

  24. Did you ask the Poser family if you could post their home picture up on the web for all to see? Now there will likely be many more people appearing on their doorstep or snooping around their property. The family has had quite an upheaval in their lives with the crew and so on in and out of their homes over the past weeks. I hope that people will respect their privacy. To all fans out there, please be courteous. These are wonderful people who deserve our respect. I have first hand knowledge of this.

    ReplyDelete
  25. one of the posers grandsons i believe was a extra in madison ( some sort of relation. his girlfriend was there and we talked for a bit but could not talk to the guy. owell!:)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ty,
Thanks for sharing the pictures they are great! When I am on the set I guess I take it too seriously, I am not supposed to take pictures, well… I try to refrain, and miss a lot of great pictures (Rod can attest to that). I have to admit it is pretty cool to go on the internet and find pictures of yourself. As for the cars, they treat them like rental cars. They do not realize they are almost 80 years old. My 1933 has run more on the set than it has in the last 50 years in total. One person I talked to started his car for the first time in 17 years for the movie. I guess what I am trying to say is it is great to get into the movie, but nerve wrecking to be the owner/driver, if your car dies they just push you to the side and yell NEXT! It is understandable; it is costing a lot of money every minute they film. I was told $350,000 each day! Thanks again for the great pictures; I should have some more when the movie comes out, if they don’t end up on the cutting room floor.

  27. Anonymous - their house is on the walking tour of Columbus and is one of MANY MANY homes like theirs. They have people in their driveway every day.

Plus - it's not like I'm unknown around here. I was invited to the Historic Preservation Committee who's job it is to get people to look at all of these homes.

    But thanks for the concern.

  30. Anon 4:01, A Public Enemies filming scout has already posted a ton of pictures of the Poser House inside and out on his Public Enemy One Photo page, so I don't think one picture of the outside of the Poser House will hurt.

  31. garyandyvonne--I am sitting her at MATC in the cafeteria and completely cracking up!!! I'm sure people are looking at me. That was the best. It kind of makes me think of Shrek when the gingerbread man gets scared and poops out a gumdrop or chocolate chip. Hee Hee!!!
    Thanks--you made my day!

  32. Which is the link for the scout's site? I'm interested in seeing what he has posted...

And how did we miss a meet and greet with Bale? Where do people find out about these things?

    ReplyDelete
  33. when people say meet and greet it make it sound like they have a queue set up and people wait in line and its all planned ahead..when it reality its not...they just happen..u hang out maybe he stops maybe not i assume...

  34. oh..yeah that's what I was thinking to but well I just wondered if I was missing something...:)

  35. My daugher and I have the day off tomorrow and want to see JD in Madison? Is he near there or is it a waste of my time? I saw his hand out the window of the SUV in Osh Kosh but missed the meet and greet so I never got to see him. I'm his biggest fan.

  36. They're shooting at the Wright cottage at Mirror Lake?

    aka the Seth Peterson cottage

Wright has a few tragic stories connected to him, and this is one of them:
    http://tinyurl.com/65nqz2

Very interesting filming choice, but I wonder why... is there a story about Dillinger holing up in a distinctive FLW design?

Maybe the cottage just happens to be near where they're shooting, at a state park whose appearance can double as a northern WI or MN locale.

    -Mary (thinking out loud)

  37. Depp was never in madison. Maybe to stay overnight but he is not there and they are done in madison filming.

  38. When you think faster than you type (or is it the other way around?), embarrassing things can happen. I shouldn't admit this, but this typo has happened once before when I was typing out "All Around the Mulberry Bush". Luckily, my wife caught that typo.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I watermarked pictures for a while until I realized...I had the experience so it means more to me then those who steal the picture...:)

And really they aren't going to sell them for much!

In my photography business it's a different story..then your losing money...

  41. This is gonna bug me because I haven't noticed...John Dillinger had a very prominent dimple in his chin...Mr Depp does not...I was just looking at pictures and wondering why they didn't give JD a fake dimple?

This falls under the catagory of in the PE book Anna Patzke is wearing a red dress and in the filming she (Emilie de Ravin is wearing red)

    anybody?...

    ReplyDelete
  42. They are setting up again at Mirror Lake. Folks, don't even bother going out there. The Sauk County Sheriff WILL tell you to leave.

    -Jess

    ReplyDelete
  43. edit...Emilie is wearing a blue dress...

    ReplyDelete
  44. emiles character is not the lady in red. anna sage is the lady in red.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I know that Ty. In the book Public Enemies it in the part about when Anna is taken hostage after the bank robbery she is mentioned wearing a red dress. It stood out for me while reading it, especially when seeing Emilie in the blue dress. I'm weird for detail like that.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ahhhh my bad:) far as I am concerned...she can wear whatever she wants..:) is a weird thing tho with MM being so into detail.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I know Ty, lol! That's why the dimple thing is driving me crazy. On IMBD in the Crudup as Hoover thread somebody mentions JD has a prosthetic dimple like Dillinger and I have been looking at all the set pictures and I can't see it.

    I=dork

    It is gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  49. In the book, it says that Dillinger got his chin dimple filled in or something when he got plastic surgury. It seems like there were some pics, from Darlington maybe, that had JD with a dimple in the chin. Maybe that is the before and the things they have filmed in Oshkost are after the plastic surgury? Just a guess.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Osh.... if you read over at JDR... we were all trying to figure out if JD was sporting a "cleft" chin or not as well. The first pics from Columbus ... there were MANY pics that looked like he had the "cleft" chin. So I would say YES, JD and MM are keeping to the real look of Dillinger.
    ~Minxie

    ReplyDelete
  51. Maybe Cherie,I didn't think of that. He had the plastic surgery pretty close to when he was killed, right?

    ReplyDelete
  52. In pics from oshkosh...it looks like he had a scar on the side of his face......but no dimple...maybe that scar was a flaw in my camera tho...lol.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Could somebody point me to a link of the pictures please? I can't believe I am OCDing over this. Maybe because of my own dimple.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Mary! That's a fascinating story. Thank you, I'm going to see if I can find a photo!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I read some weeks ago that tomorrow, Thursday, they were shooting an outdoor scene at the capitol in Madison. I would like to see JD. It will be my last chance. He will leave Wisconsin forever. I don't have the means to ever see him again. Aren't there other fans at Mirror Lake?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Columbus May 12th at the Poser House, Beaver Dam the morning of the 13th at The Rogers Hotel, Columbus the afternoon of the 13th on James St.

  60. I'm kinda new, I've been here for a few days but never posted.

So, I was wondering where they're filming right now, and if they were filming last week, because the last set pic (not including the ones in Madison) was the other Sunday (in April) and then I thought it was very odd for them to stop filming for a week.

    Thanks in advance!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hi Giovanna - RIGHT NOW - starting at 7:00 they are shooting near Mirror Lake Wisconsin. Then moving back to Columbus for a few days.

Last week (so so long ago) they were still near Mirror Lake which is near the Dells.

lotus - you got me - I didn't put it there. Not a clue where it came from.

Kurth's - I think we may have to start having a drawing on who can come. Last week were were almost maxed out room-wise.

Also - remember - to help them out and tip. It's for a good cause.

    ReplyDelete

  74. That's the final straw Rod! I'm going to open a place in Oshkosh called "Kurt's" (no h)...and start a blog about PE in Oshkosh....start hosting friday night get togethers...and eventually...after my people are trained and ready...challenge your group to a PE trivia contest/fist fight. I might even enlist the aid of some thugs from imdb.....

unless i win the kurth lottery for next week..then please disregard this comment :)

    ReplyDelete
  75. JP, go to Oblio's. That is a great bar in Oshkosh.

    ReplyDelete
  76. So Johhny Depp isn't in Wisconsin? Columbus tomorrow? Are there scenes coming up that he's in? Would I have a chance of seeing him if I went to Columbus tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Sorry all. I'm new at this. I live in Wisconsin and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to see my favorite actor in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Do you know how long they're going to be in the Dells and whether they're only shooting at night?

    ReplyDelete
  79. The dimpled chin might be a timeline issue. When I saw Johnny going back and forth to his trailer in Crown Point he had some kind of darkening makeup on his chin to like 'shade' it. He also had some red lines drawn on the side of his face. Scars? Did he escape after the surgery? I wondered at the time if the camera magnified the amkeup to look like a dimple in his chin.

    ReplyDelete
  80. LOL..thanks osh....but the crowd that hangs out at Oblio's is too rough for me. Especially on hip hop nights.......

in other words...that's where alot of my friends hang out.

  84. This is getting more and more fascinating all the time. I'm not sure I can wait a whole year for this movie to come out!

I'm glad MM is paying this close attention to detail... It'll be interesting to see Johnny with a dimple!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Shakes, have you read the book yet?

I am just weird that I remember stuff like that.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Ok. Let's vote. Should my daughter and I waste 8 hours (total) on the road tomorrow to go to the Dells or Columbus to try to get a glimpse of Johnny Depp? Or, should we wait until he's at Columbus and Beaver Dam on Monday and Tuesday? Or, should I forget about it because he's way too reclusive for me to ever see him?

    ReplyDelete
  87. I'm too old to have fun osh....that's why i'm guessing I wouldn't be allowed at Kurth's.

And shakenbsis.....i need to find someone for my group with interesting head gear like yours..... but my group is going to be wayyyyy nicer and if anyone refers to that head gear as a lampshade..they will be sent home! (unlike some of your supposed "friends" here on rod's blog)....:)

    ReplyDelete
  88. Thanks Grinder, or Rod, idk. ;P

    ReplyDelete
  89. IF I was a betting man (see my other blog) I would bet on Columbus in the afternoon.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Rod, I think we're confusing luvsjd. If you were a betting man you'd say next Tuesday afternoon, 5/13, in Columbus? Is that what you mean by "Columbus in the afternoon?"

    ReplyDelete

  102. Sorry for any confusion Lotus...you're right.....rod's veterans...plus the fact that my group most likely will consist of me and my cat sitting on a bench in the park.....looks pretty bad for me.
But i'm hoping to use the fact that my cat is REALLY cute to distract you all..... and i'll try things like asking questions about johnny depp's facial features to throw you off as well. Oh wait..osh is already doing that....(wink wink)..do you really think she can be trusted?

  103. looks like the party's on tonight!

  104. Laura - I'll see if I can find a mockup you can print out yourself!!!

    I can't send a virtual stick though...

    ReplyDelete
  105. jp, your cat might be cute but it can't fight, 'cause it's a pussy!

  106. ooooohhhh fighting words.....

  107. Someone get Rod to sit on a stick at Kurth's on Friday....
    then take a pic....easy peazy!

  108. If I were you, I would wait until Columbus. No one really knows exactly when Johnny is going to be around or if he will greet fans. I know how you feel about wanting to see your fave actor, however, I got my wish and met him in Oshkosh! It was totally worth it though! Good luck. I know I'll be in Columbus, If they dont change the date AGAIN!~

i may have to follow suit on that one!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  114. shakenbsis, rose between teeth is an awesome idea! And jp, I'm just talking smak about your cat. Honestly, i'm allergic to cats, so I'd be screaming, flailing arms, and running in the opposit direction! You and yours might win this fight, yet.

  115. JP, just what lottery did I win?

I feel like I am missing out on a funny joke.

    ReplyDelete
  116. OMG Lotus...perhaps i've underestimated the power of allergens!

"Kurth's - I think we may have to start having a drawing on who can come. Last week were were almost maxed out room-wise."

  119. Yep, between the distracting cat and the cat lovers, and the allergens and the allergic ones, I figure your odds of winning are increasing exponentially! At this rate you and the kitty could take over a small country.

  120. Osh - love the comment about dimple in chin
my husband and daughter called them butt chins we all have them
    that would explain alot
you all have fun at kurth's on friday while we sit here and blog.....:p

  123. has anyone seen Jeff Dunham's comedy stand up on the comedy channel....he has "Jose Jalapeno on a stick" (he is a very funny ventroliquist)

every time you say Rod on a stick it's what I think of

    ReplyDelete
  124. deppfan, I LOVE Jeff and Jose and the others... it was all I could do not to say "Rod-on-a-steeeeek." Have you gone to Jeff's webiste?; "Jeff-fa-fa DUN-hammmmm dot com," as his main dummy says. That's another one that will make you pee your pants. LOVE the old grumpy guy, too. I can relate to him. :)

  129. luvsjd -

Over the next few days, I wouldn't advise driving up to Wisconsin to see anything. The stuff they are doing now is on the downlow for a reason and they don't want people in the area (Mirror Lake) while they are filming. If you want to catch some filming you might want to check out Columbus. But keep in mind, meet and greets are not a guarantee. If the situation is right and the actors are up to it, it will happen. We can't expect it either. They are putting in some long hours and seem to be trying to crunch more things in. It is totally up to you if you want to make the trek but just remember that nothing is for sure and things can change at a drop of a hat.

Hope that helps and hope you do get your opportunity to see something if you come up :)

  133. Rod and everyone,
thanks for the advice on the photos. I will upload them and edit them either tonight or tomorrow night and send them to Rod's email. They aren't great because I used a digital camera and not a fancy one, but I thought they were interesting and others might as well :) Peace everyone!
