19 Days To Go!

It's coming down to the wire as Universal only has 19 days to go with filming Public Enemies.

Yesterday they were back in Wisconsin, Milwaukee to be exact and Cub Reporter Blaznfire911 was there checking it out! Here is her report.

I got to the Milwaukee Historical Society at 6:30pm. Filming had begun already around 2pm this afternoon. On set today was Johnny Depp, Stephen Dorf,

They were filming mostly indoors today, but to our surprise at about 7:30pm they started to set up for some outdoor scenes! They pulled two cars up to the front door, and Stephen Dorf came out and sat near the steps. A few minutes later, Johnny appeared, and did some test runs holding onto the side of the car. Michael Mann appeared, and they called "quiet on the set", "rolling".....then all was still for a few minutes. I didn't see Johnny go back inside the historical society/bank but he must have because all of a sudden he came rushing out with 4 other guys, and they were flinging guns around (no sound though) and jumped onto the running boards of the cars. It went by so fast.....Johnny pointed his gun across the car, Stephen pointed his gun across the hood of the car in the opposite direction, then they both jumped off.....then "cut"....that's a rap folks.

(hey that's suppose to be Columbus Stuff! - rm)

Everyone started cheering and cheering. Johnny, Stephen, and 3 other actors posed for pictures in front of the bank before heading back to base camp. Peg, and I headed up to base camp and saw Johnny and Stephen pull in. Johnny gave a little wave, but did not roll down the window. Stephen, however did, and waved to crowd before pulling in.

At 8:30pm Jerry came out and told everyone that Johnny would NOT be coming out tonight to sign autographs, but would be coming out on Thursday (the last night of filming). Jerry said that filming could go anywhere from 11pm-5am in the morning so he could not say for sure what time he would do a meet and greet, but promised everyone that Johnny WOULD come out to sign. There were only about 30 people waiting to meet Johnny outside base camp, so a lot of people waited around to see Johnny drive out. However, he did not. We waited until 10pm, when the security guards came out and told everyone that Johnny had left already. There was a family from California that had flown in for the day, and the girls were crying as they were upset that he did not come out, nor do a drive by.

Earlier in the day, Johnny had done several drivebys, and waved to the crowds, and even talked to some people from his car.

So that's the news for today. I will be down at the filming on Wednesday, and Thursday to give you some updates if you want them. I wasn't sure if you want to tell people about the Thursday night meet and greet since it may not happen due to weather. (sure why not!! - rm) We are supposed to have severe thunderstorms....but I will go to you for my weather from now on.

Filming Schedule

Mid afternoon into early morning tomorrow, some scenes at the historical society, and the rest on Prospect St in downtown Milwaukee. I believe those are inside scenes only.

The Wed night shoot will be into the night/early morning hours, with NO meet and greet per Jerry.

3.) Thurs will probably be the same as Wednesday night, with an unknown ending time for the shoot.

4.) Friday they are headed back to Chicago (Per a crew member)

Thanks Vicky!!!

We're heading north to Door County Wisconsin for a little vacation. I have been going there since I was 5 when no one had heard of the place. It can be described sort of as the Maine of Wisconsin. Working fishing villages on the lake side and resorts and gifts shops on the Green Bay side.

Beautiful in a relaxing way. I'm sure I make have some photos of the Fish Boils and so forth as I will be blogging. Our main goal is a The Ridges Ride for Nature Bicycle Ride. WE'RE READY.

Except we have ridden exactly one block on our bikes this year. From having colds to cold weather and a hacking cough we should be fine on a 100km ride!! No probs. I think we might cut back on the miles a tad. Especially when people see us coughing and hacking our way around Door County (man those two gotta stop smoking!!).

In reality we're both feeling pretty good AND we have 70% of our taste back.

Actually DJ is only doing the ride for the tee-shirts with original art and pasta at the end of the ride (which is REALLY good). We'll be on the sag wagon after 2 miles!

In other news, I took some photos this morning. The first photo is of the Clay Garden (guess why I call it that name).

That area, bottom right, is the tip of the spear when it comes to water running down the hill. The Rue (I think) and Cat Mint take the brunt of the direct hit. I put in edging and left it high. Not high enough according to last Saturday but I have plans for more water diversion and channeling inside the garden. GAME ON MOTHER NATURE!! BRING IT!

The tip was wiped out last year in another deluge, you can see how it's a little thin "up" there.

The fluffy green plants are Coreopsis Zagreb which are way bigger then last year. I can't wait to see those flower. Just the other side of that fence you can see a lighter green - that is The River ( see 2nd photo to see The River). Any good rain storm and The River appears!

The Butterfly Garden is coming along slowly. Remember - this is my first FULL year of being a gardener so I'm not sure WHEN things come up and it's always a surprise when anything grows at ALL!

This is my Jethro Tull Coreopsis which I purchased ONLY because of it's name! I have three of them (only by flowers in odd numbers)

Not a clue what this is but it was pretty at the Farmers Market. Anyone want to take a guess?

My REAL Butterfly "plants" have not flowered yet, only my spur of the moment plants.

But my real pride and joy is the Mailbox garden.

Funny - every garden has some sort of rain measuring device LOL OBSESSED WITH RAIN ROD??? If this is what a garden looks like in it's 2nd year I'm pumped. What's that saying about the first 3 years of a garden?

Different subject!

It's weird how people don't even notice the Space Shuttle taking off and landing. Driving people back and forth to a space station is so common place. Amazing!
=============================
Marion Morrison died on this day in 1979. Some called him John Wayne. Wayne's first acting jobs were bit parts and he was credited but with the name Duke Morrison. Duke Morrison was the name of his pet dog.

His first real acting job was in the movie The Big Trail and it was then when he became John Wayne. The director and long time friend of Marion, Raoul Walsh, did not think "Marion" was a good name for someone playing a tough western hero. The movie was a dud anyway.

During the 30's Wayne made dozens of movies churning out two a week (Michael Mann would have a fit) and sometimes Wayne would appear as "Singing Sandy," the musical cowpoke.

His breakthrough was in1939 in Stagecoach as Ringo Kid.

Wayne’s last film was The Shootist (1976), he played a legendary gunslinger dying of cancer. The role had particular meaning, as he was fighting cancer himself.

For all of you Tudor people.

King Henry VIII of England married Catherine of Aragon on this date in 1509. His first of sixth wives. He divorced her against the will of the Roman Catholic Church, thus precipitating the Protestant Reformation in England.

Henry went on to have five more wives; two of whom--Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard--he executed for alleged adultery after he grew tired of them.

His only surviving child by Catherine of Aragon, Mary, ascended to the throne upon the death of her half-brother, Edward VI, in 1553. In 1558, Mary was succeeded by her half-sister, Elizabeth, the only surviving child of Henry VIII by Anne Boleyn. She was crowned Queen Elizabeth I.

And thus - I bid adieu.

  1. Enjoy your vacation, Rod! We all could use one after the week Columbus has had.

    Great pic from Milwaukee.

Oh, the Carriage Classic has been postponed until August 22-24, FYI.

  4. Rod - Love the mailbox garden! I'm sure you covered it weeks ago, but what plants are in there?

Nice to have PE news again. Seems weird to think it's still going on, like it was forever ago that they were in our area. hehe

  5. See you later all...off to the airport then to the PE filming!

    See you later!

On the bottom are Autumn Joy Sedium which are really cool in the fall with billions of tiny tiny red "flowers"

    http://tinyurl.com/6zr6n4

Then the light purple is Cat Mint which has tripled in size from last year.

Carl Forester Grass is next to the rain gauge and is at the hight it was last August so that's exciting.

And the dark Purple is in the corner is some sort of Salvia which helps out with Alzheimer's so I'm excited about THAT (always thinking ahead . . .while I can)!!

  8. Rod- you didn't tell the funny Milo story that you promised :P

  9. Thanks for including more "space tidbits" in your blog! With only 10 more space shuttle flight scheduled, I'm hoping more people take notice before those awesome machines are retired. The new Ares rockets should stir up some interest as things get moving along with those. Going back to the moon has to be exciting, right?!

The updates on PE filming were nice, too. There have been some decent updates on imdb, but the pictures from Milwaukee were a great addition! Thanks for sharing!

  10. Jenny - I also have a funny Blake photo for tomorrow.

Back to the Moon?? SWEET - maybe they can find that golf ball.

  12. Sorry got carried away. If anyone goes to Milwaukee and can get a nice front shoot of Johnny close up without glasses I would greatly appreciate it. I am trying to keep a scrapbook of Johnny coming to Wisconsin. Any pics would be great. Autographs are good to. Thanks in advance if anyone goes.

  16. Mcskippy, I don't remember if anyone told you that at 9:30pm this past Friday (at Kurth's) we all saw the satellite and were thinking about you!

  18. Hi Kathy! I did hear that you guys were able to see the station & shuttle go over last week. It's such a cool thing to see!

For all of you gardeners out there (and parents looking for something fun to do this summer with your kids), you can register online with NASA to receive a packet of Cinnamon Basil seeds that were flown on STS-118. This is part of an Engineering Design Challenge and the seeds were taken up by Educator Astronaut Barbara Morgan. (She was Christa McAuliffe's back-up.) The online registration form is designed for teachers to register, so it asks for education information (like school, grade level, etc.) but if you're creative you can get around this. :) You also get a packet of plain-ol' Earth-bound seeds so you can compare them with the space seeds to see if spaceflight affects their growth. Might be something fun to add to your gardens! Here's the link... http://www.nasa.gov/education/plantchallenge

  20. Canceling a root canal to go? You're only joking about that, right?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Osh,
    Come join us!!!
However, today is an indoor shoot, so it's just sidewalk stalking today... Maybe tomorrow? Vicky and I would love the company!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous @ 1:06, if you have to ask if I am joking, then you don't know me too well. I'm sorry about that. I'm funny.

    ReplyDelete
  23. and the RC is on Friday...I wouldn't really have to cancel it...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Do we even know where they're shooting on Thursday? I'm sorry if I missed that part.

    ReplyDelete
  25. So what is everyone planning then? I'm gonna be there tonight, I know there will not be a M&G but maybe we can see him or some of the action, I just want to be there to see whatever I can. Then I think Thurs I'm gonna show up around 5pm and I'll just stay all night... until Friday morning around 6am.. then I have to leave for work. I guess Thurs night/Fri morning is what sounds like the best possible time for Johnny to come out so that's what I'm planning for.. .anyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sir Rod and Lady Di, have a wonderful weekend in Cape Codfish!

mcskippy, fantastic info about the basil-- think I'll try that! Shuttle launches and landings never get old. I have NASA TV channel on as constant background whenever they're up dere hey. Some funny stuff goes on when they think no one's really watching.

My basement smells now. I mean, worse.

  27. Just so you won't be too concerned about the "family" from California with the two girls. They didn't fly in from California just to see Johnny. The woman (who is the mother of one of the girls) is from Madison and was back in your area visiting her family. She was happy to find that they would be filming there.

She and the two girls met Johnny along the California coast during the filming of POTC.

  29. PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

The Crawfish River crested last evening and water is beginning to recede in Columbus.

We have ended sandbag filling operations at this time. We have about 4,000 bags on hand at the Fire Station and citizens can come and get bags for reinforcement.

Rain is in the forecast for later this week and we recommend that the sandbags remain in place until we know the impact of the next rainfall.

Columbus Emergency Management is coordinating an effort this afternoon to retrieve pets that remain in evacuated areas. A veterinarian will be going to the Kestrel Apartments and will retrieve pets and taking them to the Columbus Countryside Veterinary Clinic (N4359 Tempkin Road, 920-623-3366). Contact Patti at 920-623-5914 if you have a pet that needs to be rescued.

As the water recedes we must continue to be vigilant when handling items that have been in storm water.

Please use precautions, wash items in bleach, wear gloves and boots. Anyone who has been scratched or injured should get a tetanus show if they have not had one in the past 5 years. Anyone experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, or flu-like symptoms should contact their primary physician.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm so glad to hear the water is going down. Hopefully the waterways will be able to handle the rain that is moving in over the next couple of days now.

  32. Hi,

I heard that part of HWY 151 might be closed today. I was wondering if anyone knew if this is true or not. I want to make sure I can get home.

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  33. 151 is open now along with the Interstate.

Were the people told to leave their pets behind?

YES - and I for one and pretty pissed off about that!!! It was learned in Katrina NOT to do that.

I REALLY irritates the hell out of me and there is no freaking way I would leave a pet to fend for itself.

I want to know WHO ordered THAT.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Don't blame our Who's now Rod.
    *smiles*

    ReplyDelete
  35. That was ordered?? Crazy. And you are right, you would think Katrina taught them a few lessons... well, at least FEMA showed up early in the game unlike then. I guess they learned that.

  37. Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards Act
    (PETS Act)

The destructive force of Hurricane Katrina exposed many flaws in our nation’s
emergency preparedness programs. One easily correctible issue that has come
to light is that many of our city and state authorities’ disaster plans do not take
into account how to rescue the portion of the population who are pet owners.

In order to qualify for Federal Emergency Management Agency funding, a city or
state is required to submit a plan detailing its disaster preparedness program.
The PETS Act would simply require that the State and local emergency
preparedness authorities include how they will accommodate households with
pets or service animals when presenting these plans to the FEMA.

  51. Did I miss this: what scene is being filmed at Prospect & Juneau? What is the backdrop?

I can't remember what that one building is, my memory barely being refreshed by Google Satellite Spy. I spent a lot of jailbait time hanging out in the Prospect/Farwell area, but I think this was the good end of the street.

Ch.15 news out of Madison just had our vet on camera-- he helped save the kitties at the Kestrel Apts. Public thanks to Dr. Gerber & staff at Columbus Countryside!

    Welcome back home J&J!

Today the Red Cross was over at my house. But I was not home and they also went to my neighbors...
Seems they were making sure we all did not need a hand and if our living quarters were in living order.
They told my neighbor some one would be back to talk to me...

    Everyone have a lovely evening...

Shame on the Mayor or whoever made the decision to leave the pets behind in those apartments to be alone for two whole days.

I'd like to see channel 15 report that side of the story.

    We learned nothing from Katrina.

  55. Well there was no Johnny tonight....however there was a lot of fun with the crew. JD came in around 10pm, but headed straight inside.

Jerry came out and checked the baracade...so there may be a m&g when they are done filming???Prob not till the wee hours of the morning, so I had to come home.

I will be there tomorrow night, and all the way into the morning.

    Will email Rod some pics!

  56. Those of you growing Salvia divinorium should keep an eye on your state laws: a lot of places have started making it illegal to sell or grow. Why? Because apparently the current crop of high schoolers have figured out that salvia is legal and causes a quick hallucinogenic trip when smoked. And as usual, some of them are abusing it. But the worst part is that they're videoing themselves and putting it up on YouTube for everyone to see, so the politicians are freaking out and want to ban salvia entirely.
Nevermind that it's been around forever, and the hallucinogenic effects have been known (and at least when I was that age, the concensus was that it wasn't all that fun). Or that it has a great deal of potential as a medication for several different illnesses. Several states have already banned salvia in the last few months, so be sure it's still legal to grow the plant where you live. (Wondering if the politicians are ever going to figure out that the War On Drugs doesn't work and never has...)

I went back home to sleep and went back in the morning, I guess he did come out but I didn't see the line of people so I didn't get to meet him. I'm REALLY hoping they are a day behind and will still be filming tonight, does anyone know or are they for sure out of here and going to Chicago?

  60. Sorry that happened to you anon - at about 1:15 one of the guys came out to tell us that there was a severe T-storm cell coming through and we wold be wise to take cover. We all dispersed for a bit to area establishments while the cell broke and passd by and them made it back out to the site around 2. It did rain steadily after that till about 6am! Those who hung out till the end got a very sweet reward! = )
