Julie's Park Cafe & Motel

Hi Guys

All day I have been worried about yesterdays blog. I never had a chance to proof read it and YOU KNOW ME AND THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. I was feeling a little guilty for taking up space in the restaurant so I closed down a tad early.

SO!

We're having a great time. Weather was thunder stormy today and Blake was a little nervous all day.

As I mentioned before I have been coming to Door County every year for perhaps the last 45 years but this is the first time staying at Julie's Park Cafe & Motel so as I normally do, I give a review.

We picked Julie's first and foremost because they are dog friendly. Why don't more places allow dogs, just makes sense to me. A dog is part of the family right? As a bonus Julie's is on the Green Bay, warmer side of the bay. If you ever come to Door if it is to warm go to the Bailey's Harbor/Lake Michigan side, if it's cold go to the Fish Creek/Green Bay side.

The place is right next to Peninsula State Park, the best Park in Door so you would think it would be expensive, right?. Nope. It is actually one of the least expensive places in the Fish Creek Area. The trick is you get what you pay for. The rooms are bare bones, no extras EXCEPT for dog friendly which for us is a BIG bonus. Anybody that is dog friendly gets a few extra stars in my book.

Free Wireless is NOT in your room but basically just next to the restaurant. They have no problem with using the restaurant for laptops, right now I am one of three. Heck, I remember when you could not even get any television in Door so ANY wireless is great.

I THINK our room is a special "dog" room as Josh and Jenny next door have a much cleaner room as far as carpeting. Again - no big deal, dogs don't wipe their feet.

Free HBO . . .well . . .it's free but not real clear, you have "charter" floating across the screen the entire movie. But the rest of the channels are clear. But really, are you here in Door Country to watch TV? It's the perfect place for making basecamp while doing all the other things up here.

I totally recommend the place for a clean, affordable base camp

That is the Motel, the Cafe is very very friendly and we are made to feel right at home. Free coffee and the staff is wonderful, EVEN after the staff has been working for 12+ hours. Speaking of the staff. Most are from Europe and other far off countries for the summer and we love that aspect. I call them Julie's cast of characters and they really add uniqueness.

Below is Jairo from Columbia, Donatas, who's first plane ride was a 10 hour trip from Lithuania and Mario from Mexico.

The pastry is great, prices are typical Door County but maybe a little cheaper, more normal. There are cheaper places but I have to think Julie's is in line with 80% of all the other places in Door. Plus as Josh said at breakfast, this is fantastic as he took his first bite into his stack of Kamikaze Cakes (2 Buckwheat cakes with blueberries, bananas and pecans cooked into the center of each cake). If fact the look on Josh and Jennies eyes as they tried their first piece was sort of like Blake's ice cream cone (see below).

It's a cozy place and from what I can tell a crowd favorite. Highly Recommended.

One bonus with staying here is you are near everything. We will come here again as long as they are dog friendly.

Flashback first.

It's weird. I feel so out of touch with what Johnny Depp and Michael Mann and company are doing. How long as it been since DJ, and Jenny got a hug from Johnny? Seems like ages(great blog Betty about your experience). One tiny bit of Public Enemies news - Before I came up here I had heard rumors that IF there is no actors strike the June 30th deadline might me passed with more filming.

HEY - we JUST saw Evan on TV!!!! Seriously!! They had a piece about a kid getting a Johnny Depp hat in Oshkosh and they had some scenes and BAM - there is Evan.

Anybody notice that the two main places Universial filmed Public Enemies in Wisconsin were flooded? If I was Little Bohemia I would be buying sandbags.

As for our day.

Yesterday the four of played a little mini golf, then went to Wilson's to eat lunch. Wilson's has been serving food since 1904 I believe. Then Josh talked us into paddle boat rides but get this.

To settle the bill I said we would pay for lunch and they could pay for the paddle boats. LITTLE did I know there was a storm coming. We get in the water and start paddeling. The boats are not really made for anybody over 4 feet tall. My knee keeps hitting my chin and after 20 minutes of peddeling like mad we look back and are like 25 feet from the pier. This is a good thing because a storm is moving in so we turn around make it back just in time. Josh gets 67% of his $$ back.

Then drove into Peninsula State Park and took some photos on overlooks.

A trip to Egg Harbor for a little shopping for hoodies and as the sun came out we went to an Ice Cream Stand. Story time.

The guy asks DJ, "would your dog like a doggie ice cream cone?" "Of course" DJ says and Blake licks his lips. He disappears and returns with what looks like a kids cone and Blake gets a huge grin. DJ puts it in front of him and Blake is in heaven. His very first ice cream cone. He does not really understand the licking part of an ice cream cone though and CHOMP, GONE!

We can't figure out why Blake is gaining weight.

SO much for THAT diet. Whenever we go on a vacation with Blake he never eats his DOG food. He will shove his dish around the room all night trying to tip it over.

The rest of the day is non eventful, we eat in Baileys Harbor at a Green Bay Packer enhanced bar and that is about it.

Today is get away day for J and J (sad). For us we are taking Blake hiking and a Fish Boil tonight. Captain Anne Bonny, you got married outside Baileys? cool. We love that little place, our favorite quite place if you have to get away from.

OK - gotta run and do things - talk to you tomorrow

Rod and DJ

  1. Your post made my heart ache. I miss Door Co and want to go back tomorrow! But I have to wait till September and our anniversary. I just love it up there. So much to do and so little time though.

  2. Yup married up in Door Co. Our wedding reception was at the Sandpiper in Bailey's Harbor. We had a fish boil.

We had a very small and casual wedding.

Love the pic of you & DJ in the big chair! That is so cute. Keep having fun!

  4. Sounds like you guys are having fun. Does Josh getting 67% of his money back mean he has to buy next round? It does where I come from LOL :P

Yea!! for Blake's first ice cream cone!!

Julie's looks like a very nice place to visit. When I saw the picture with the big chair, I said out loud..."and that's the truth ~raspberry~!" I couldn't help myself! Everyone around me at work gave me weird looks so I said.."Haven't you ever heard of Lily Tomlinson? LOL

Enjoy the rest of your time!

  5. I love Julie's! She has saved my wet butt many times when Evan and I were camping in the park and tornado warning ripped through the area 3 different camping trips!

I always order the spinach feta omelet...so glad y'all are having fun...

  6. so glad to hear the vacation is going well!

so whats going on for chicago?? when everyone going down and where exactly is Joliet??

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'll be leaving for Joliet at about 3pm.. it's a 2 hour drive for me from Milwaukee, it's west of Chicago.. you can get directions on mapquest or google maps. Hope to see some of you there!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Are they at the Joliet prison today?? Will they be there tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Here's the link for some info about filming in Joliet/Crest Hill

    http://tinyurl.com/44qxcu

So far, none of the Chicago tv stations have shown anything about filming yet..

My dad works in Joliet and when I told him about it just to warn him in case roads are blocked off and whatnot, he made it sound like it would be pretty hard to get back to the jail being it's closed, off the main road and he said he imagined you'd have security clearance to get back there (and that's without the cast and crew being there)..

I don't mean to scare anyone off, but I'm just letting you know what I was told..I don't think I'll get to go because I work odd hours the rest of the month (and it was a lot easier for me to get to Crown Point for the one day I went), but good luck to anyone and everyone who goes! I'm looking forward to seeing pictures!

  10. Sounds like everyone is having a nice relaxing time in Door County! I'm wondering if the storms followed you though? We're starting to get our basement back into some normalcy; so hopefully I can still make it to the painting party on Saturday!

  11. They've been at the Streetville prison today and there's no access to any filming nor, reportedly, base camp. I would imagine that would hold true for both prisons but especially the still active Streetville.

  12. I just heard on the news tonight that some little boy from Oshkosh got to meet Johnny when he was there and the little boy requested that he would like the fedora. Well, I guess "Johnny" (his agent) sent the boy his fedora and a note saying to enjoy the hat along with other promos from Charlie. I just thought that was kinda cool if it's all true.

Also, I thought that I would repost this today since it was the last post on yesterdays blog and I'm not sure if everyone saw it. Sorry this is so long.

I went to the Dells on Fri. and came back late Sat. I really wanted to help with the cleanup but my boyfriend woudn't let me. I really know how all these people and businesses feel.

In 2000 they took out a dam that's by me and we lost all of our water and now it's just a little stream/creek. Our neighbors property touched the mill pond (ours didn't) and it was a really sad time here. And I could smell that every spring for years. Now when we went there it was a little different smell, but there was 1 spot that had the same smell.

Going from the Dells to Baraboo, taking pictures there and back to the Dells it took us something like 3 hours. I overheard a guy saying that it normally takes him 30 mintues to get home, but the other day it took him 3 hours. This past weekend they had a Harley ralley in the Dells which didn't help much either, bikers coouldn't drive anywhere because everything was closed. Even Wiscoinsin Dells Pkwy was backed up. At 1 point it looked like it started in Lake Delton and went all the way past Mt. Olympus Waterpark.

A couple of years before they took the dam out they closed all of the gates and water was coming up everwhere. When it was at the end of the side road we were getting really scared, a house that was 2 houses from us had water almost up to the house or it was to the house (I can't remember). Everyone was really scared. All TV stations were here and the person who lives on 1 end of the road had to help sandbag the house on the end (it was his daughters house), it was a mess all over.

Now they drew down the WI River here because I think they have to fix something on the dam and it's going to be closed all summer long. So we have no water on the WI River. I just thought that I would let everyone know that.

I hope I didn't confuse anyone with this post. If I get time I will send Rod some pics that I took in the Dells and Baraboo.

Fanfromwi- Thanks for youe post about the dells, and the wi river. It is a mess everywhere. It is starting to rain here right now, and everyone has this "uh oh" expression on their faces.

    Thanks for the PE updates.

mmmm spinach feta omelette, sounds nummy... speaking of food, I'm starving!

Glad you are back safe Jenny.
Also glad to hear some good news in the midst of all this flooding yuk...

The trickle down effect is hitting our community now. Downtown Janesville and Beloit are getting ready to shut down power due to flooding. The post office has already MOVED! (that's never happened before to my knowledge) I'm 3 or 4 blocks from the river so I think safe here...

And hope the money comes in soon...

Fanfromwi: Nice write on the Dells...
    It is just so crazy!!!!!

    Vicky: hope your rain stops...
    No Rain Here!!! So Far!!!!

My basement is pretty much cleaned up.. could not get all the glue off the floor, but the foam padding is gone.
Washer Tech came and the washer is broke big time, the only thing that is not broke is the timer....
So I could have it fixed or get a payout!!! I took the pay out, only because then I can get a New Washer with all the warranty's
So I will be on a Wash Machine Mission tomorrow.

    Heehee!!!!

I do know that it won't be one of the front loaders....
    Tid bit?
If you forget something and want to toss it in? You can't!!!!!
So i will take the old fashioned top load.....thank you very much!!!

  24. Congrats Robbi! nothing like a new wahing machine!

    ReplyDelete
  25. ((if someone had told me years ago I'd be sucked into a discussion on washing machines I'd have said kill me now)) :-D

Hey robbi, frontloaders rool, I've had 'em for years. True, you can't toss in a stray el stinko sock when the cycle's halfway through, but would you anyway? I've stopped five minutes in (most have buttons to push just for that), no water gushes, maybe just trickles but easy to wipe up... generally no water escapes at all, because they don't use much.

Although I understand your trepidation at even the thought of having wandering drops of liquid evil in your basement from here on out...

    Good luck!

Shakes, I've been thinking of you as the deluge moves downstream-- keep us posted!

And welcome back Jenny&Josh, if anyone deserved that vacation you guys did!

  32. Rod: Your dog Blake is absolutely adorable! The picture of the chair reminded me of the chairs they used to have at the Field Museum in Chicago in the "Big & Little" exhibit. I remember being in 2nd or 3rd grade or so and all of us girls in the class trying to fit on the chair..and now I'm 22, ha ha. Sadly, they no longer have the exhibit (unless they are hiding it on me) but it was pretty cool while it lasted.

I don't know if anyone else saw this article but it was in the Times here in Northwest Indiana, and they were talking about the filming and a location or so I didn't even know about..

Glad to hear someone else has thought about dressing up! My friend and I are thinking of going as either gangsters or gangster girls..I guess we still have a bit to decide. I've never really dressed up for a movie, though when I went to the midnight showing of 'Sweeney Todd' with a friend my sister ratted my hair like Mrs. Lovett's and was really neat but hard to get out..I didn't dress like her though, I just wore all black.

  38. The story about the boy in Oshkosh asking for and receiving Johnny's hat is true; it made the 10 o'clock news on channel 6 out of Milwaukee last night.
Jenny, I'm so sorry you STILL haven't received help from your insurance company!!! Hope you have hot water SOON!!

  39. The article was interesting; but filming didn't start in MADISON on
March 17th, it began in COLUMBUS!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. The story about JD and the hat is sweet by the pushiness of the parents bothered me a lot. I mean, I think the story would have meant a lot more, to me at least, if the hat was sent to the kid of JD's own choosing, not the parents tracking him down, etc. Plus the whole "they did pretty good getting stuff for five kids" comment. I don't know that just rubbed me wrong.

But a nice story showing how far JD will go to make people happy :)

Hope everyone has a happy Tuesday

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ok... so we went.... =( We probably shouldn't have... I read all the info on it but had to try anyway... I was hoping at least that base camp was far enough away from the prison... but nope, it was on the prison grounds, it was a long drive and we could drive past the prison and see where base camp was set up... but nope... couldn't see a darn thing. =( Oh well... hopefully they'll be back in Chicago or somewhere easier to see them again soon. It was worth a shot.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Bummer on the filming news...good attitude though. It's always worth a shot!

Glad Door County is treating you guys well. (WB, J & J)!

The "big chair" makes me giggle! And Blake is a character all his own! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks for the info Becky, you just made up a lot of minds over here.
Rachel, I know what you mean by that statement...it does sound odd...so will the mother of the little girl have to track JD down now in 20 years and remind him he promised to marry her daughter as well?

    ReplyDelete
  44. That's true. I mean if everything he said while walking the line were held as an actual promise... YIKES! Poor guy. I just hope people don't start taking advantage of his kind, generous sole to get "things."

    ReplyDelete
  45. maybe I am just in a pissy mood this morning...lol/angry lol

    ReplyDelete
  46. I thought I was the only one who had that reaction to that article. In no way would I have ever tracked down someone the way they did. Especially a celebrity. Totally obnoxious as far as I'm concerned.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yesterday I thought it was wonderful and great, but now that it has been on EVERY news outlet in Wisconsin and the world I have a different perspective on the family.

but again, I am about ready to put my own child and husband into Foster Care right now and live alone (with my kittehs), so that might be skewing my perspective a little.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ugh...FEMA stopped by the shop yesterday but no one was here....waaaahhhhhhh! lol...guess i'll have to track them down and see if they can help out with anything....though i won't hold my breath!
Let me know if you need any help Jenny.....i have replaced lots of water heaters (but i don't have a plumbing license)...but if you need help with one...lemme know! :)

  50. Osh, then all you need is your housefrock and rollers and you will be the neighborhood kitteh lady :)

    Sweet!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I didn't want to go negative, but... I had the same reaction when I read the whole story. Kid says, jokingly, "I want your hat." That's funny. Depp says "OK"-- that's amusing too. But then to track him down? And let him know you have four other kids that better be treated equally too? No, osh, you're not in a peevish mood-- feels like you're calling it right on. It takes class to notice a lack of it.

And then they notify the news outlets. Thereby guaranteeing that equally pushy parents with senses of entitlement will tell their kids to ask Johnny for his clothing at other meet'n'greet opportunities. And then track him down with reminder notices, some possibly with 90 days' warning.

    grrrrrrrrr

    -Mary

    ReplyDelete
  52. Thanks Mary! You can validate me any time, I rather like it!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Well, I didn't mean to be negative bringing it up it is just that it didn't set well with me and I didn't want to be a Debby Downer but I thought maybe there would be others out there that got the same reaction.

    People are just weird. :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Rachel, I don't think you were negative at all. I'm glad you said something. A lot of times I'm still too worried what other people think to say what is really on my mind, this might have been one of them...like I said, yesterday it was cool...the more I thought about it and saw it everywhere it made me feel weird and I am glad I wasn't the only one.

  56. JP - How did you know FEMA came when you weren't there. Did they leave a note or something? We're not sure if they came while we were on vacation.

Thanks for the offer to help with the water heater. Last night we used the last of our birthday money and bought a new one at Menards. We won't be able to put it in until Saturday though, when Josh's step-dad can help.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I thought it was a cool thing to do when I read it, but it immediately struck me that it was wrong when I read that the parents "tracked down Johnny Depp's agent" (who happens to be his sister! YAY JD--way to go!!!)!!

Those parents have no class...JD does, so he followed through.

I hope other parents don't get the idea that it's okay to beg him for things just because he came out to make your kid's day by saying hello and thanks.

We are right, and they are wrong. :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. I felt the same way as Osh, Rachel, Suz, etc. Tacky behavior on the part of those parents.

Hey, I can't remember the person's name, but her bf was playing poker, and I wondered if Phil was her BF? He won, that is awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jenny-
They didn't leave any paperwork but when one of my employees got back to the shop (I was already on my way to Green Bay) some of the neighbors were still milling about talking about the FEMA guys and a few of the City building inspectors who had just been by inspecting damage in the neighborhood. I'm hearing mixed stories about FEMA and how they are going to help....from one guy who said they are setting up very low interest loans for people to another guy that said if they declare Winnebago County or the city of Oshkosh a disaster...then they'll be able to help out a lot more....i'm going to call FEMA and the county to see if I can at least get our damage estimates listed with FEMA to help bump up the number for the rest of the residents.
One guy just left my office....82 years old and the Red Cross has got him 6 days free at the Holiday Inn...but after that he might have to go to a shelter or something. His 5 year old house had 5 feet of water.....so much so that it buckled his basement floor (concrete floor) and cracked his foundation and his house was tagged as "uninhabitable"....and his homeowner's insurance won't do much of anything for him...poor guy. :(
How's THAT for being a Debbie Downer?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Of course we are right Suz :)

Hope the day is going good for everyone!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yeah, so far we haven't heard from our insurance or FEMA. It sucks!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I can't believe State Farm is being such jerks Jenny. I guess I have a decent agent in Oshkosh. However, I have only used her for car related things...but in 2001 I don't remember having to wait around forever and FEMA was pretty quick to come around and cut a check.

    ReplyDelete
  63. We are the smart ones Suz:

    check it out:

    http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/24655225.html

    ReplyDelete
  64. As the floods spread southward along the Mississippi, I expect the story will just get bigger-- provided, of course, another news anchor does not die (ohhhh how's THAT for a snarky negative comment?!?). FEMA's response will be scrutinized yet again in the national lens.

Let's hope they don't ship those empty, hazmat-filled trailers north!

Dodge Co. needs to be added to the federal disaster list. Beaver Dam's waterloo (heh!) came a week later, but it was pretty bad. Many families have severely damaged homes in and around BD.

Poor Hubbleton. Sweet little town. I read a lot about its history when I worked at Old World Wisconsin-- one of the buildings came from there.

(God Bless Tim Russert, he was a decent and thoughtful journalist. But apparently nothing else happened these past five days...)

    -Mary

    ReplyDelete
  65. Don't even get Osh and I going on Russert. I think we finally just stopped crying.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think I am going back into my cave for the day. I have erected my "ON STRIKE" and "FIND YOUR OWN DAMN UNDERWEAR" and "MAKE YOUR OWN SUPPER" signs throughout the house...let's hope the sticks and berries of the house use their reading comprehension skills today.

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's amazing how something so nice like JD giving a kid a hat that he promised after a one time meeting can turn into something so different when you take in the context that his parents had to TRACK DOWN the agent to make sure the promise was fulfilled. Life is full of disappointments. I don't think that little girl is holding her breath waiting to be old enough to marry JD. It makes the hat seem cheap if you have to TRACK it down to make it happen.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Osh we are definately on the same wave-length today. I've been mulling over going on strike at my house too. DH worked 3-11 pm last week and it was the kids 1st full week of summer break. Every night I came home from work to a disaster area. 2 sinks full of dishes, dishwasher waiting to be unloaded, skads of laundry, dirty floors, clutter all over, everyone wanting to know what is for supper, etc. etc. I blew a gasket. If they want a maid they better either hire one or find a way to bring more money into the house so I can stay home and do the things that everyone else is apparently too important or inept to do.

    Whew! Sorry I blew up. : )

  69. Just got home and finding the repartee about the hat interesting. I think a flogging is due.

HOWEVER - I too think the same as you guys about the kid and I might have to talk about it. Any good links to get the whole story? I'm a little out of touch.

And "I" have not started on Tim Russert yet - OH - I have many things to talk about :-) and catch up on.

  70. Rod, I have the entire newspaper article on my blog
    also

Now I will be known as a child hater (start the bashing now J^P)

as for my stupid family...I don't work outside the home...I don't have a paying job...somehow this equates in their minds that I am some kind of indentured servant at their beck and call...I could go on and on, but that is what my blog is for HA HA

  71. Osh, you're a beck & call girl! Sweet!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I wish I were a call girl...

  73. What's even more messed up is if the hat ends up on Ebay.

  74. I updated the photos to a more manageable size to look at AND saved space in Blogger.

  75. Hi Grinder & all,

That story about the kid in Oshkosh...kinda cool, kinda lame.

Anyway, I was in Columbus on March 17-the only day I made it over to watch filming :( I put a few photos on my blog. One is a crowd shot...but, it's mostly backs/butts. LOL

Take a look and see if you are in it...www.calypso2u@blogspot.com

Have a SUNNY rest of the day!!

  76. Ok I have to keep my lips sealed but I have to make a comment about the pushy parents.

I am happy for the Jack to get the hat but please for the parents to follow up is pushy.

That was not a hat worn in the movie, even the note JD sent it says "a hat"

The studio would not allow a piece of wardrobe used in the movie to be released( What happen if Judy Garland gave the ruby slippers to some fan before the release of the Wizard of Oz?)

So I am with a few of you I am happy for the Jack but the parents are pieces of work. How long beofre the hat appears on e-bay?

Sorry for the rant but the Jack wasn't even wearing the fedora properly the front of the brim should be folded down LOL

Any way filming tentative for Chicago at Union Station and Friday downtown near Congress.

    Lips are sealed ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

  77. Hard typing on a Blackberry, it should be "Jack"

    "not the Jack".

    Lips sealed+++++++++++++++

  78. I'm sure JD was sincere about giving the kid his hat, but the parents were damn pushy about getting it - and swag for the rest of the family. Then talked about it to the media. Next time anyone asks Johnny for anything Jerry is going to give them a big fat NO.

Not essential, but Johnny's sister Christi is his executive assistant and also president of his production company. The agent is Tracy Jacobs.
We can't have errors on Rod's blog of record!

  79. On Tim Russert: as a Brit, I've never heard of him. Saturday, I saw Bruce Springsteen (OMGWTF!) and apparently Tim was a fan and friend of the band. Springsteen gave a great tribute to the guy (text is now up on brucespringsteen.net) and dedicated Thunder Road to him.

  80. Maybe too much wall to wall coverage by NBC, BUT I LOVED Tim Russert!! He was an honest, decent human being who mentored lots of people @ NBC (hence all the coverage). He as Springsteen and others said "held politicians feet to the fire" on many occasions. He didn't take sides, except the side of truth. Guess y'all have already heard this too much but its true.

Wish I could get JD's hat...any hat!! Good for the kids, but a bit pushy for the parents, tracking it down??!!! Just again shows how considerated JD is despite some of his nutty fans (oops guess I'm included in that but I am not a stalker LOL)

Glad we're getting some drying out weather..best of luck with FEMA etc for all those who have flooding

  81. Heard that when Russert was in college he was a concert promoter @ his school and booked Springsteen before he hit the big time....

    ReplyDelete
  82. Tim Russert was cool like my dad...that is way cool.

  83. I just saw on the 6-o-clock news that the mayor suspended Deputy Fire Chief Bill Kluetzman, Emergency Management Director Bob Zapotocny and Firefighter Dave Landphier over some shovels? Does anyone know what happened?

    ReplyDelete
  84. I would think there would be more to it, than some stupid shovels...

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yeah, I kinda felt the same about the kids family the more I heard from them... yuk!

I'm a big fat crab tonight too. Long hard day and I dropped a heavy window on my hand/thumb to boot! grrr... Now I'm crabby and in pain and can't get my work done! I don't think anything is seriously broken though, all my joints still functioning...

Sorry to Jenny and JP and all wrestling with FEMA/Ins companies. My heart goes out to you!

Sorry Joliet was a bust ;(
Thanks Calypso, coming to take a look...

  86. I hope Rod doesn't mind but I started a new blog and I wanted to share it with all of you. This is my first time doing a blog but I thought I would give it a try. My blog is dedicated to Scrapbooking but I will probably go off topic alot.

  87. It's all perception. In looking for news (national, not local) about the Midwest flooding this weekend, I worried that this large-scale problem was going to be relegated, coveragewise, to a few sentences just long enough to wrap around that footage of the house falling into Lake Delton.

My earlier comment was snarky. Tim Russert was the kind of journalist we need more of these days, as fair and balanced (to usurp a phrase) and probing as one will find. His passing is a blow to true journalism, not to mention his family, friends and colleagues.

I should have been more careful about how I put that... and stop being disappointed every time I channel-surf past Larry King, as if I am expecting something I will not find there.

  89. Mary - DJ says you are like a puffy Cumulus cloud you want to hug. Kind and gentile.

Actually I put in the Cumulus part.

Angel - no probs with the blog - I'm glad I can be a catalyst. Hint - put your emotions into it. To many blogs are "now I did that and then I did this".

    And have fun with it.

  90. Is "My Boys" still on the air.

  91. "Actually I put in the Cumulus part."

  97. Shakenb-No, tonight was not better. I'm disenchanted...

    Sweet dreams, everyone. :)

  98. I totally agree about the hat story. The headline drew me in; the line about the parents tracking down JD's agent turned me off!! I was thinking it might turn up on Ebay too; after all, they have evidence (lots of film and print) that it came from Johnny!!
Calypso's and Rachel's links didn't work for me!!!
I'm surprised too that Dodge county hasn't been added to Fema's list yet! I've driven around Beaver Dam and the water seems to still be rising! I did see two army helicopters fly over yesterday; so maybe soon???
