Have fun shoveling tomorrow.

Public Enemies Photo blog

I found this cool picture of a horse!

There is an article in the Wisconsin State Journal by Doug Moe (I used to play softball with him) and he is talking about how PE should have the Premiere in Madison. This would be nice but it's like having the Superbowl in Green Bay - not going to happen.

He says Michael Mann owes us because he went to UW Madison and so forth. ummmmm - I believe having part of the movie IN Madison could be payback??? Anyway, Premiere's are a way to get all the Hollywood people in one place to see the latest work of art. They are for networking and showing off. Not for paying somebody back (unless you are in Illinois I suppose).

Perhaps I'm a realist and know that in the real world a Premiere in Madison or Columbus would not be in Universal's best interest. Heck - they ONLY have three movies this summer, do they want to waste a Premiere in a State where many US citizens don't even know where it is?

THE COMING STORM!!!

It could be snowing already by the time you read this. However - I believe this storm is slowing down. I said this yesterday at lunch to DJ. I believe most weather talking heads are 6 hours off. Yesterday I said I thought the storm would hit Madison about Midnight while TV stations were still talking about 6:00.

Now I see stations are hedging their bets and saying 8:00 while I'm looking at 2:00 AM Friday. In fact I'm thinking this is goign to be a FRIDAY event and have nothing to do with Thursday at all.

Here is an oddity . The MOST snow ever on December 19th is 2.9 inches, we're going to break that record by 7 inches and this could be one of the top 7 storms ever in December for Madison. The BIG snow track has slide south a little but it's a pretty wide band.

The reason for the storm can be seen in this map. All of that purple humidity is moving north and hitting cold temps. Plus the jet stream is pointing right at Wisconsin.

OH - We have two more big storms coming - don't put away the shovels.

Betty - I think I can use your computer. I'm still looking for one.
Survivor - My passport is good to go!!
========================================

This is a cartoon that appeared in Harpers Weekly in 1909. Even though the Wright Brothers successfully flew their first plane in 1903 it was not wildly accepted as truely wonderful and did not really get any attention until demonstration in 1908.

Until then most people consider the future of air travel would be in lighter then air dirigibles.

This cartoon on December 18th 1909 shows that finally people were starting to think an airplane might be something in their future. After all if Santa Clause can safe in one it can't be THAT much of a gimmick.

As artwork I really like this.

On this day in 1892 Peter Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker Suite" premiered in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Keith Richards turns 65 today who ever thought he would live that long.
Brad Pitts B-Day (45)
Steven Spielberg (62)

On this day EMI the British record company rejected the Beatles (they later signed them once they put down their hash pipes)

And lastly I would be remiss if I did not say the 50th episode of The A team aired on this date in 1985.

Digital cameras are really going to comeback and bite is in 100 years. The reason is that so many photos will be lost. So many common shots that we think are garbage now but in 100 years they will be gold.

I love looking at old photos - that are not works of art but show us how life was 100 years ago.

This is a panoramic of Trenton New Jersey from 1909. I THINK you can enlarge it if you clicjk on it. Pretty cool photo I believe.

Have fun shoveling tomorrow.

Betty - I need a current email - or email me (computer).

  2. Bring on the snow! I'm ready for the inept snow removal my landlord does (NOT!) provide.

I am the proud new owner of a shiny shovel. I feel empowered!!

  4. Besides being a realist you are dead on regarding the premier. There will be one in La and most likely in Chicago (chances real good)

With this comment I am not INSULTING WI. at all. I love the state. But WI was used only as a backdrop for the movie.

Mann could of used any small Iowa, Indiana Ohio etc to film the bank scenes etx . They picked WI because of the old town character and tax breaks etc. Litlle BO was the only WI part of the story. Heck if it was any other director he would have filmed the Chicago scenes in Toronto.

Just because he went to school in Madison is not the reason to have a premier. I wish they would have a premier in WI. I think that would be cool but it wont happen.

I am still hearing some big news though but I can't release just yet. So my lips are sealed till then ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

  6. Eddie Murphy as The Riddler? Seriously?
    PopEater
posted: 8 HOURS 25 MINUTES (Dec. 18) -- While many things in Britain's The Sun newspaper need to be taken with a grain of salt, it's our duty to report that they're claiming Eddie Murphy has snagged the role of The Riddler in the next 'Batman' movie.
Previously rumored to be Johnny Depp's role, Murphy will reportedly reprise the sinister character last played by Jim Carrey in 1995. The Sun is also reporting that 'Transformers' star Shia LaBeouf has been cast as Robin.

  7. Moe also wrote in the WI State Journal that Michael Mann decided he would become a director and was "inspired" by a course he took at UW in the 60's. At least they filmed here. Sure a premiere won't happen, but some kind of special screening would be awesome.

  8. Very nice photo of Trenton! I love old photos!!

I am not happy about the snow, but I am praying for a snow day tomorrow!! We shall see.

Oh and btw...A team is one of the greatest shows ever !!!! Hee hee!!

I think you are right about the storm...seems to have slowed down a bit.

Not looking good for a premiere in WI....but that's ok. I am still pumped for the release!!!

    Have fun shoveling all!

  10. I love the snow! But, I need a snowblower I can start myself! Oh, Santa...
A few people got together and picked July 11th to do some type of activities to celebrate PE....personally I think it is too close after the 4th...but I'm not in charge so...what do you-all think?

  11. Robbi! That's agreat idea about having our own premier! Let's start working on that and send the cast an invitation! LOL! You never know who'll show up.

AND I think that Little Bohemia was an integral piece of the story! So I still think WI deserves a premier.

  12. Jenny, I'm right there with ya! I was wondering why I saw a spinning frog instead of a horse.

Rod, you have me thinking a bit differently about which digital photos I will print. This could get expensive.

I am OK with the date for the PE event in Cbus, although we have a family reunion that weekend so we can't attend. I'd love the date to be changed, for my own selfish reasons!

    Eddie Murphy?%$!%#(

  13. I'll be on Survivor - Grinders Island on that date!!

If NOT we will get an organized premier SOMEWHERE - Madison, Beaver Dam.

  14. Some of the car guys are working on a primer/viewing at the Orpheum Theater in Madison on State Street, just down from the Capital. www.orpheumtheatre.net Awesome Historic Theater, 2400 seats? There is talk of letting some of the vintage cars park on State Street in front of the theater. We should invite Johnny he is just rebellious enough to show up!

  15. Not sure how good the Orphium is though for showing movies. Not really a movie theater anymore. BUT . . . . it is a pretty cool place.

Long way to go for Columbus people.

  16. Hey Grinder,

I understand we had a bunch of snow and stuff...(did you have a snow day today?)...but seeing that we didn't have a blog today...will we have a "Saturday Special" tomorrow?

  17. The Orpheum is still a movie theater.

  19. I don't print many of my digital photos right away; but I have them all in albums at Walmart; and on CD's. I'm five years worth of photos behind with my scrapbooking; but hope to get to the digital ones some day! I think I'm even MORE aware of good photo ops with my digital because I don't have to worry about the wasted expense of having film developed to find out how many don't turn out!! I love old photos; and have gotten many from my dad. I'd hate to think that 50, 75, 100 years from now there won't be any good ones taken now for people to enjoy!
You continue to put out a great blog every day, Rod. Sorry all of the Christmas hustle and bustle has kept me from checking in more often. I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, healthy new year! If a Columbus/Beaver Dam premiere is set up; I'll be there!
