What? No Synchronized Weightlifting?

Now wait just a dog gone New York minute. First I can not find Mens Synchronized Swimming and then I can not find Synchronized Weightlifting (either sex, you really can't tell) . Where are all the good sports.

Then I saw Team Handball which looks NOTHING like real handball. Is this REALLY a sport???

Sheesh!! Water Polo? WHERE ARE THE HORSES!!!!!

Sure - we can have water walking but no Synchronized Swimming!!!

And talk about cheating. Who REALLY wants to wrestle this guy.

Did anybody watch the Chinese Synchronized Diving? WOW! Seriously awesome - I wonder what the Synchronized Diving Commentators do between Olympics! I'm still thinking that the Chinese won the Gold using a Hologram.

At the same time as the 2008 Olympics is the World Headless Competition! This is a little know event that is not shown on TV because well . . . . it's a little creepy!

Back to reality - sis you know Michale Phelps has size 14 feet?

Remember this guy??

Here he is today
And I bet you thought I'd find some bad photo!!!
=====================================
Back here in the States The Wizard of Oz premieres at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood (I'm trying to keep the Chinese theme) on this day in 1939.

Also on this day but 30 later in in an entirely different reality The Woodstock Music Festival started in Bethel, New York. 186,000 tickets were sold but more then 400,000 attended.

There were only two deaths, one from a heroin overdose and one from being run over by a tractor in a neighboring corn field. There were two births!

After the concert Max Yasgur, who owned the site of the event, saw it as a victory of peace and love. He spoke of how nearly half a million people filled with possibilities of disaster, riot, looting, and catastrophe spent the three days with music and peace on their minds. He states that “if we join them, we can turn those adversities that are the problems of America today into a hope for a brighter and more peaceful future...

If any of you ever get a chance to see Tom Brokaws Special called 1969 (oops 1968 - DANG!! wrong year) on the History Channel check it out, you will not be sorry. ANYWAY - pretend we're talking about 1968.

It's a very very good summery of 1968 and you really wonder how the world survived. So many things were going wrong. You think these are hard times but this ain't nothing! I'm glad I was not old enough to really know what was happening in the world as I would have been scared shitless.
=======================
This being Friday we all know that Saturday and Sunday are coming. Many of you retired people are not aware of this "weekend" thing so I will not blog on the weekends for retired people.

This way they can wake up. Look for the blog and when there is no new blog they will know it is either Saturday OR Sunday (depending how long they slept). It's a public service.

Plus we're having a guy come out tomorrow morning to talk about finishing our basement. Were not going to take his offer as it's from the Owens Corning Basement Finishing people and we have read ALL about them. But might as well hear their pressure sales pitch as they try to sell their $70 per square foot basement system.

Speaking of oppressive work places.

My sup was just talking about a place where he worked where a lead worker told his workers to leave a post-it note on their computer when they were going to the bathroom.

My sup found out about this (he was their sup at the time) and told the employee to leave a yellow post-it note if he was just going pee and a green one for going poop.

He stopped this process after a few days and some laughter!

I'll have more on that Monday!

Rod

  1. Whoo hoo! I'm the first to comment again! I saw Mark Spitz on the Today Show yesterday and I think he's a very attractive looking man! More now than when he was younger!
I got married in 1968 (child bride) and I don't remember half of what was going on back then! And I wasn't even into all of that "free love" and smoking weird stuff!! Love the walking on water and headless photos, Rod!!

  4. What they're saying on other news outlets is that Heath hadn't changed his will after Matilda was born, so all his money went to his father. No one really thinks that his dad won't give her the money, but he's already been in trouble over mis-managing his own father's estate. Even so, with an actress mom, the kid's unlikely to be poor. Johnny and the other actors just thought it'd be a nice gesture to actually have something be in Matilda's own name instead of her parents'.

  9. Fan pays $91K to star with Depp
    09/05/2008 14:02 - (SA)

Los Angeles - Johnny Depp will be starring alongside one of his biggest fans in his new movie Public Enemies.

The fan paid a staggering $91 000 to appear as an extra in a non-speaking role opposite the Oscar-nominated actor in the film which tells the story of America's criminal folk hero John Dillinger.

Money from the charitybuzz.com auction will go to the Robert F Kennedy Memorial, a living memorial which aims to "advance the human rights movement through providing innovative support to courageous human rights defenders around the world who have won the RFK Human Rights Award".

Charitybuzz.com CEO Coppy Holzman said: "We are thrilled to have been able to raise so much money for Robert's wife Ethel Kennedy and The RFK Memorial."

  12. Team handball! or is it Handballs.

Today I was at the food court at West Towne Mall in Madison. A guy walked up to me and said, "Did you camp out to see Johnny Depp, too?"

At first I was confused. Then I realized I was wearing my Columbus shirt. So we talked a moment about our experiences. Cool.

  16. Lotus....are you out there???? I haven't forgotten your request for any info about Montana where you are planning to visit. Another place that really was neat was Three Forks Montana. here is a bit on info about it...

Three Forks is a city in Gallatin County, Montana, United States. The population was 1,728 at the 2000 census. Three Forks is named because it lies near the point, in Missouri Headwaters State Park, where the Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin Rivers converge to form the Missouri River.

The three rivers, west to east, were named by Meriwether Lewis in late July 1805 for President Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State James Madison, and Treasury Secretary Albert Gallatin.

Honored in Three Forks, the Indian woman Sacagawea is best known as the interpreter and guide for the Lewis and Clark Expedition. In 1800, she was captured by the Mennetaree tribe near the present site of Three Forks. She later returned to this area with Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery. A statue of Sacagawea now sits in a park off Main Street.

My family actually camped in that area and canoed on the river.....it was really interesting. Hope you have a wonderful trip....it is beautiful country...it's no wonder it is called Big Sky Country.

  18. Haha, the headless photo- there's some classic rhythmic gymnastics for you. I love that sport!

MSW- funny how you run into people isn't it? I was talking to someone I know and his twin brother was an extra in a few scenes downtown.

I had heard about Johnny, Colin, and Jude giving the money they would have earned to Heath Ledger's daughter... it's such a wonderful thing!

Going to miss those weekend blogs :)

Quick question- I had gotten my Public Enemies book signed by Johnny Depp and I was hoping to get it signed by Bryan Burrough as well. Any ideas? I didn't see much online and was thinking of trying to call the publisher?

  19. and then there are those "other" people who don't have a clue that a movie was filmed here! Met one of those today. One of my Johnny Depp photos came back from Walgreens with part of his head cut-off. So the conversation started and she said, "Oh. What movie?"

  20. Sad news this morning.....
Leroy Sievers passed away late Friday. He was a producer for Nightline and other news programs for many years but became perhaps better known for his blog on NPR, "My Cancer".

Leroy shared his humor and grace during his journey through "CancerWorld" as he named it. His blog gave hope and inspiration to the thousands of lives he touched...he will be sorely missed.
