Thank You America - From France

I actually had a MUCH different blog in the works today. It was going to be called Tommy Tetuski's Beer Drinking Club. But it will have to wait.
=======================
I pride myself in being an even keel sort of guy. A contrairian that looks for problems when things are too good and a contrairian that looks for good when things are at their darkest. I'm constantly trying to make a balance.

However something came across my desk that sort of got me a little unbalanced (in a good way) and since this is my freaking blog I want to share. Sure this might alienate some of you but. . . . what can ya do.

But first a couple things to get out of the way.

Kim - no worries about Letter to the Editor. The reason I mentioned the flags HERE is because I did not want to paper-ize it for the reasons you mentioned.

Also - I will have some more stuff for you, I'll try to stop it off tomorrow - got Columbus Carriage Classic Ale to brew first. Also also - I was contacted my that Model "A" group from Crowne Point that traveled to Columbus - we talked but I have not heard back from them - thanks for forwarding my number.
=================================
I have tried to stay off of politics but received the below stuff in the mail and after seeing what Elizabeth from the view had to say I just have to share. For any of you that live in a cave and do not know Elizabeth is a whack job that STILL thinks George W Bush is a fine President.

============
A Letter to America
To those who doubted you would stand up and would stand by the change the world was reaming of.

To those who tried to divide you, you showed your heart and your open mind.

To those who hate you, you reached out and will be showing them your new face.

To those who's life has been saddened by the lost of loved ones.

To you America,

I say...

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Thank You, for shining once again.

Thank You for reaching out to your brothers and sisters from all backgrounds and all colors.

Thank you for understanding that this is the only way the world can and will move forward.

Thank you for Electing a man who will be an inspiration to the whole world.

Thank you for making history.

You can be proud to be back in our heart and to the world community of peace makers.

You showed the world that united you stand and therefore united we stand close to you.
We too are proud of you.

There is too much at stake, too many to help, to much to do. The time has come for us all. To roll up our sleeves.

We too had a dream. And today you made it a reality..

From the bottom of my Heart, and with tears of joy in my eyes,

With love, from France,
Stephane

  2. ^Yeah, that.

Although this suffusion of positivity has me feeling a little dizzy and off. Like I'm being naughthy or something and I'm gonna get caught.

That photo from India cracks me up!

  4. Showing my age here, but I haven't seen a presidential election ignite the imagination of the American people and the world since John Kennedy.

  5. I loved your posting today!! Great photos from all around the globe! Perhaps the United States has regained a bit of it's support and high esteem again. I thought the speeches by both Obama and McCain
    Tuesday evening were wonderful!

  8. I agree with Rod.... Elizabeth Hasselback is a Whack Job!

    ReplyDelete
  9. you could at least post as your real name... i had no problem doing it.

  10. its funny how liberals will call anyone who doesnt agree with them a whack job...but me being a conservative, you dont hear me sitting hear calling all you liberals whack jobs.... first, i would be completely ostracized if i did that, and second, like i said..everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but when you personally attack someone, is when you take it too far.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Rod, did you have your pom-poms with you when you wrote this?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well now that is interesting that you feel that way now that the shoe is on the other foot. Us liberals have been the butt of personal attacks by people like Rush Limbaugh and other right wing whack jobs for years now. :o)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Not to mention Ann Coulter.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm gonna get Rod some pom poms for Christmas!

  15. Please do not belittle the term "whack job" by using it in any other manner than the "romney staffers working for mccain trying to scapegoat palin" intended.... it refers to the govenor from the great state of alaska.

And don't personally attack Ms. Hasselback just because she sits around a table with a bunch of socialists/terrorists.....i mean....unless she attacked someone for sitting around a table with a bunch of socialists/terrorists.

  16. Wait a minute - why are people upset over "whack job"???

For one thing I considered her a whack job BEFORE she was outspoken - she was a whack job on Survivor for gosh sake.

WHO said anything about the term whack job being related to her political affiliation. Let's not jump to conclusions.

Seriously - ALL of those woman on that inane show are whack jobs!!

I don't take ANY of them seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Rod, Rod, Rod. Look what you started.

I never have a term off; I'm offended by the left and right equally.

    ReplyDelete
  18. WHAT?!? I can't take "The View" seriously?

I've TIVO'd a whole year of The View in preparation for being snowbound this winter.

    ReplyDelete
  19. BTW - I consider Lou Dobbs a whack job along with Keith Olbermann.

I don't think whack job is only for conservatives.

I also do not think America should label people conservative OR liberal - why must we put people into categories - perhaps we should all work together as one instead of taking sides.

People are not black and white, there are many shades and perhaps it is time to stop calling people the "C" word or the "L" word and work for a common goal.

    ReplyDelete
  20. BTW - Louie - call me when you start to watch - I have All My Children on my DVR!! Greenlie is leaving AGAIN!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Rod, you are soooo naive. How would we get along without labels?

My conservative friends call me a whacko liberal and my liberal friends call me a whacko conservative.

Labels just make it easy for the close minded.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey LHL, what if I just called you a Whacko period!?!?!? hehe! :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. shhhhhh! Jenny - we DO call him that but keep it to yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Just for that I'm changing my name to Right Hand Ricco.

  25. Any brave souls going to the Kurth tonite?

  26. Deppfan is also and Obamafan :)))

Both Tues nite speeches were very good....McCain was very gracious....

Barack's was inspirational and brought tears to my eyes....

Great blog today-I think the world will see the US much differently now-BUT Like Obama says, we are all in this together and we all have to work together there are so many problems but there is hope....

    *off soapbox*

In his press conference today, Barack replied when asked what kind of puppy the Obama family would be taking to the white house said they would prefer a shelter dog but that most of them were "a mutt like me"

  28. My husband was watching EliSabeth Hasselbeck on Fox and he said....

"Isn't she married to Knight Rider?"

I said "that is David Hasselhoff, you whack job!"

This is the same man that while watching the RNC said "that lady in the bright green dress looks familiar, who is she and how come they keep showing her?"

For the record, my husband exercises his right not to vote.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't believe how this election has impacted the world! It is wonderful!

Thanks for sharing the pics, and the video...and that letter! It's very touching!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I regards to liberals calling people whack jobs I find that comment humorous. I've had plenty of conservatives leave me nasty and vulgar messages on my blog that I've had to erase.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I also agree that we shouldn't be labeled. We need to start learning how to work together in this country instead of tearing each other apart. That is why we have so many problems.

Kudos again to you Rod for the lovely blog posting. I too loved the pictures and found them to be very inspiring. I've had a couple of bad things happen to my family this year and it made me question why my husband and I do the charitable things we do. I was getting to the frame of mind where I was starting to think it's useless because it's not doing any good. But with the election on Tuesday and seeing how the world came together it gave me hope again and I want to continue our work to make the world a better place. If we quit giving money and support to charities and causes that we believe in then the negative people in this society win. I can't let that happen! :)

    Keep up the great blog.

  32. Grinder is a whack job!

    *ducks and runs*

btw: Meagan I personally agree with you Elizabeth is very passionate about her beliefs and also very vocal (as are all the laties of The View) but I wouldn't call her a whack job.

I'm also getting pretty tired of the words conservative and liberal in their current social context.

They don't mean the same things they used to mean to me. Like most people (and societies) the way I view things changes and evolves over time.

Lately it's hard for me to listen to either Ls or Cs when they are spewing their stuff...

I cried during both speeches Tuesday night. Times are changing, in many, many ways for the good. I'm starting to feel tentatively hopeful...

    Yeah, I'm a gullible skeptic.
Emotionally affected by great oratory, but slow to believe.

Actions speak louder than words. America spoke on Tuesday and HOPEFULLY real change is coming...

  33. ps: thanks for posting all the photos... very moving :)

  34. despite who is in the White House we are all Americans (except for those that read this that are from other countries) It saddens me when I hear people say they are ashamed to be an American, or ashamed of their country...because our country is more than just the president...it is all of us and what we choose to put into it and take away from it.

From Shakes serving our country in the Armed Forces to Caralea delving into the history of those that fought before us, I couldn't be more proud to know such wonderful people. To those that pitched in at the train station and those that volunteer to help needy families over the holidays...all generous in spirit and full hearts...You, to me, represent MY Country. Thank you.

  35. Thanks Rod! Your blog is great, your pictures are great! Have a great day!

  36. Your blog is a fun, funny, and an interesting little catalyst for all kinds of opinions.

I really enjoy all of us whack jobs participating in discussion.

Whether I agree or not, it is so helpful and sometimes entertaining to hear other's points of view.

I read your blog every day, and look forward to the comments just as much as the blog content.
