Health providers in the ENTIRE world SUCK!!
Once I came to grips that I had diabetes lite and went through the 5 emotions of being told I had a small issue, denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance I was looking for answers and OF COURSE, when looking for solid information on ANYTHING turned to Facebook.
Actually I "did my own exhausted research" and found SO MUCH conflicting information. I was able to FINALLY contact a diabetes nutritionist with my first face to face still a couple months away - yea - seriously!
They sent me some info which was inline with what I was thinking. So! with this new found sketchy info I hooked up with a diabetes page on Facebook that seemed to have every country in the world.
EVERYBODY has the same issue world wide. A complete lack of information from the Doctors who LITERALLY seem clueless! People world wide are begging for info from the health care providers about diabetes but they tell you next to nothing.
ANYWAY - that is my health care rant.
WHAT I'm doing seems to be working. In 2 months I've lost 10 pounds in a slow steady manner from 172 to 162. My moving average of my fasting blood sugar continues to drop
And with my lose of 10 pounds my knee feels GREAT!! WHO KNEW LOL
I average 114 carbs a day with 28 of those fiber. Still trying to boost fiber. Protein intake is 101 grams. The BIG thing is carbs. I stopped all beer drinking (really bad for you) and replaced beer with vodka (the cure for diabetes?). I have not had a soft drink for 2 months EXCEPT Ginger beer for Moscow Mules. White bread is gone replaced with YUCK whole wheat buns for burgers and so forth and I found "keto-like" "white" bread that that has 9g of carbs but all 9 are fiber per slice and speaking of Keto.
100% of ANYTHING with "keto" on the label SUCKS Keto friendly is OK - straight Keto SUCKS
A friend turned me on to Kahava which for the time being I'm drinking instead of Ensure Max Protean. WHY you ask?
I NEED MORE FOOD!! I work out and my fitbet says I need 2300 calories and I'm only hungry for 1400 calories a day.
Along the way I have found hacks for white rice. Add Coconut oil to white rice while cooking. Let it stand over night. The oil converts the starch into protean, reheat it and you have safe white rice. No spikes.
Pasta? Whole wheat pasta tastes exactly the same as normal white pasta. Whole wheat buns on subs?" Just get a spicy sub, you won't even notice the wholewheat flavor.
Breakfast are easy - eggs are GREAT. Instead of bacon I have thin thin slices of pork chops. Today I had oatmeal and added cinnamon (no sugar) and then added Kashi Cinnamon Crunch, It's fine, adds texture and taste.
Supper has been tough as I'm normally the cook and HATE 95% of all veggies and fruit? SIGH - a ton of sugar in fruit but if you have a tsp of Natural peanut butter that smooths down any spikes. Get peanut butter with the oil floating on top.
Bananas are death fruit LOL a LOT of sugar in a banana but the Glycemic LOAD is not bad.
GI and GL is something you need to look into. GI is how much sugar something has it in. GL is how much sugar you actually consume. For instance Potato chips (potatoes are bad) Not real bad per chip but you eat a LOT of them.
Popcorn Horrible but you can't eat 2 gallons.
Here is the thing though - You have to take care of your brain. I can have a Mooya Burger (like Five Guys but better, tasting) with a small amount of fries every so often - it's not going to kill you and you really don't want to be in food prison.
I can have pizza - just not a whole half of a 14 inch pizza (like the old days). Dark Chocolate (over 72) is GREAT for you if you have 1 square a day.
What I have found is that after a month of not having sugar snacks(Cheetos, Fritos and so forth) I don't crave them at all. I see a donut and want one but I don't crave. I have a LOT of nuts and peanuts (actually those are beans).
I'm preparing to make home made pork and beans as Bushs are just pure sugar) with the sweetener pure maple syrup and Molasses.
SO - the journey continues
I feel the main problem is that people think they have to make major changes - NO - make healthy changes with more plant based food and smaller portions. Europeans visit America are are SHOCKED how much sugar we put in EVERYTHING. Slow and steady - you are not going to fix or CONTRIL diabetes over night.
OH - I'm taking Metformin - zero issues besides being horny all the time but I think that was there before hand (too much info?) From a number of articles from schools of science Metformin was discovered 100 years ago and may actually slow aging and increase life expectancy and is on WHOs List of Essential Medicines.
Diabetes lite has really tweaked my interest. 90 million American have diabetes but don't know it or don't want to know.
Yea - who wants to live long anyway right?
