16 hours - The Search for Johnny Depp 6:00 to Frozen

As we left your shivering and hungry cub reporter he had just ripped off seven shots off his Nikon D-70 as Johnny Depp drove by.

6:40pm

Somehow JD got back to Base Camp without me knowing it. I think I must have blacked out at one point, who knows.

But I wake up and see some contraption coming towards us.



And that was basically it. About an hour later his SUV goes flying back to Base Camp and I think we are done. The light is fading.

HOWEVER

7:30pm

The wait begins. A crowd of people have managed to line up across the road from Base Camp hoping Depp will come out to sign autographs. The few of us still in our right mind know this will not happen in the dark. 8:00 comes and goes and it's dark. I have been doing this from dark to dark. gug!

You can see EVERYBODY shivering in the cold and wind. It's been a long day outside and I have to think most people here are dehydrated along with cold and hungry.

8:30 approaches and vehicles are leaving to drive back to Madison and we see the Black SUV standing at the ready, door open.

Then it happens - it moves towards the exit - I have positioned ourselves so that we are on the correct side of the exit and will have the best chance for . . .whatever could happen.

Girls scream as they see the window rolling down. My camera and super powered flash are snapping at where I THINK the window is but people are jumping in front of me. I try to move but am frozen solid. I snap and hear someone screaming HE TOUCHED ME HE TOUCHED ME!

I did not realize it was CP at the time and I did not know I had gotten a great photo.



And my day was done.

There are many many better photos of the day out on the internet that I am totally jealous over but I'm happy. It was a 16 hour experience and as they say - I left nothing behind - I gave it my all. There are photos I missed that I wish I could have gotten but some I was surprised turned out.

I went out today and took some real nice scenery shots of Columbus and I'll post them next.

You know? Now that I finished this I feel blog . . . . let down. I think I feel sad I did not get MORE shots. I guess you are never happy because you know there are some that got away.

I'm mentioned on YouTube - is it about my spelling????? Show me the weigh! (teehee)

OK - where was I before real life interfered.

OH yea - Pledge Drive - make sure you help me out by going over to The Isthmus Daily Page and reading (or pretend to read) my new article. Our Man In Columbus . However, I must tell you I lied. I really did not get Polar Bear food in my lap when you clicked the little red recommend. It was Beet Pudding and I am renegotiating (along with finding new clothing). Mixed up in the language obviously.

1:00pm

I believe I'm back at Base camp (things are a little fuzzy). Johnny Depp rode off into the . . sunset (so to speak) and we are waiting for his return. Meanwhile unbeknown to us everybody is on lunch break. We stand there shivering ready for anything.

It is at this point where things slow down. Nothing is happening and no one is to be found anywhere. We stand and stand and stand, the crowd grows larger. People are screaming at anything that moves out of boredom.

All I can do is try to put into words SOMETHING for The Isthmus and I am at a loss. Nothing has happened. I want to contact Clark Kent and tell him "I have nothing".

5:45pm

Yea - it's been a long time. There is a gap in security (which was fixed today) and we can see the exit to Johnny Depps trailer that no one else knows about.

It's been a long long long time but when Jerry the body guard opens the door to the magic SUV we know we are gold for a photo op.

For anyone interested - the latest on the camera seems to by NOT Panivision and most are guessing some sort of HD. It could be a Red One Camera, but its certainly not panavision.

As for other stars - No one has seen anything good. There was a siting of Stephan Dorff but they are keeping a low profile it seems.

9:30am

Boredom enters the scene and I'm walking about looking for action. I'm lucky as I can go in to get warm at times. There is one girl who was at the gates at 6:00 wearing a light sweater and a thin vest. She was there from 6:00 to 8:30 in 25-30 degree weather. DJ was very worried about her when she was no longer standing upright but bent over in pain.

This photo is one of the calmer times. It really got active when it got later in the day and the word spread that Johnny Depp was driving by at times.


10:00am

I wander to the far side of town to see what is happening and take a short cut. I come upon the food trailer. SWEET - I'm pretty hungry - think they would mind if I helped my self?


11:13am

I'm on the far side of Ludington and can actually see filming. This is the best spot I have seen so far. It is here where I meet even more that have read the blog. One guy looks at me and asks "are you grinder?" YUP.

I start snapping away. Notice the Indiana flag in this shot (it is Indian isn't it? Just going on what I heard). Actually the right hand side of the street is NOT in the movie. Nice touch by a business owner.




That is Michael Mann in front of the camera.

A little out of sequence but here is a close up of that little filming trick. All the driving scene's would involve going around the block so there were times where they would circle the block six or seven times.

There are actually three people on that sled - One guy is in the middle scrunched down.

The woman in the blue on the right - more then twelve hours in 25-30 degree weather in a thin sweater and thin vest. This is when she was standing upright. She never moved from the one spot! DJ was pretty worried about hypothermia. - OOPS - a little redundant!! sorry

I must take a break.
