For a guy that grew up using a bamboo slide ruler to figure out batting averages and ERA in baseball I find technology still fascinating.
BTW - the top wind speed was 53mph about 8:30 as the warm front passed. We had sustained winds nearing 40mph for about an hour and a half.

The Columbus 7.
Well - I'm getting some emails of disbelief which I figured I would. If I had heard the stories and thought this was from some disgruntled movie star wannabe I would have discounted it. But the stories were from people that actually had very very low expectations in the first place.
Also remember - I only mentioned about 30% of the entire list of problems. I know all about how low extras are treated (I was one remember?).
I would not have printed anything if I thought this was normal bellyaching.
On to a nicer subject - here are some photos from Marcella who was lurking around the Biograph.
Thanks Marcella

I golfed Lawsonia yesterday with rating of 70.8/128 I believe and did fairly well for only hitting the fairway twice. 55/49 for a 21 handicap.
Here are a couple photos of the course.
This is after a 180 yard drive - only 160 to the green!
A 170 yard par three slightly down hill
That is it for today - back to normal tomorrow grrrrrrr
Have a great day and if any of the Columbus 7 want to tell their story I'm all ears.

Technology is an incredible thing! If you look back only say.... 40 years.... the advancements that have been made in that short time are mind boggling!
ReplyDeleteRod, looks like you played a challenging course and played it well... Congrats!
Wishing everyone a relaxing, fun Memorial Day!
Yeah, the technology advances in our lifetime alone are astounding...
ReplyDeleteHope you guys are doing something fun today =)
I just wandered back from the parade, the kiddies are sooo cute! One of the benefits of living downtown, most of the parades pass right by my house =)
Ooh Minxie - looks like we were posting at the same time. I meant to tell you how much I love, love LOVE your profile pic! Gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteRod, you and Evan would be BFFs for life with all the technology. He simply can't function without it.
ReplyDeleteHope everybody is enjoying the weekend!
Shakenbsis: Thank you for the compliment! *blushing*
ReplyDeleteI love your pic as well....the danglies around your face are so cool! Its a great pic!!!
Technology is an amazing thing. One has to wonder how we did without it soooo long ago!! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat are you going to do now (blogwise) that PE has left Columbus and WI and the possibility of not returning?
I have really enjoyed reading your blog and following the filming of PE. I have also enjoyed the side stories you told and would miss them if you don't continue.
This blog is titled ~ Public Enemies - Columbus & the World ~ will you begin another blog that is only about the happenings in Columbus and the World? I think you should keep this blog, but there will be little news in the future about PE, at least until the premiere.
Great pictures of the Biograph, thanks to Marcella for giving them to you to post and great pics of the golf course. Looks like it was an amazing place. I have only golfed once or twice in my life, enjoyed it, but found it too challenging. I prefer the driving range, especially on a stressful day. ;)
Technology changes so quickly, it's hard to fathom what will be different in only the next few years! I do miss some of the "old"
ReplyDeletethings though; like having a television repairman come to your house. Now you just buy a new one because the old one is obsolete any way!
Love the photos from the Biograph! Thanks for sharing them, Marcella.
M, this war can seem so far away until it hits close to home. Beaver Dam has lost two of it's young men. Thanks for sending the link; it's a grim reminder of what we've lost!
Whoa! That last pic...the night pic of the Biograph...is awesome! That's almost as cool as Rod's Columbus pic. Good job, Marcella (or whoever took the pic)!
ReplyDeleteThanks guys,
ReplyDeleteSorry the last one was kind of blurry... I cropped it and respected everyone telling us not to use flash. I should have sent the uncropped one tho.
Yes, Marcella, thanks for sharing the pics. They are great!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about the military, past and present, and all the sacrifices that they and family make/made. Just considering it leaves me silent.
minxie - =)
ReplyDeletem - thanks for posting young Kurth's memorial...
marcella - great pics, thanks for sharing
Christine - i loved golfing too as a stress reliever but seldom find my way on to a course these days. My clubs gather dust...
Sue - how about the milk man?
Lotus - just read yesterday's comment, LOL (how true) I'm with you though, silence seems the most fitting remembrance. Words fail...
Nice photos of the golf course Rod! Technology is a crazy thing!
ReplyDeleteMarcella - thanks for sending rod your photos...really liked them.
Mixie - I too love your pic. I had to dress as a pirate for a pirate cruise last summer...was the best time ever! On my blog I dressed my doggy up as a pirate hee hee.
I am still a little confused as to what happened in Chicago and why JD is not doing anymore meet and greets. Everyone I met in Columbus was so nice, and respectful of not only JD but the whole process. It's sad to think that a few people can ruin it for everyone.
Columbus 7 - Sorry to hear you guys had a rough time. Sounds like it was tough. BTW I think we could make a movie or a documentary called "The Columbus Seven"...it sounds like a great title hee hee!
Happy memorial Day All!!!!
Vicky
My father in law is a living Survivor of the USS Indy so I'm a little humbled at times.
ReplyDeleteChristine - the Historian if you want an amazing story about history check out The USS Indianapolis.
As for the blog - I'll keep going about like it did this week with no news.
No need to change names - it's why we are all here so might as well keep it going.
I WILL have a new garden blog soon.
I went to a Memorial Day parade today in West Bend, WI. This parade had a lot of veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and then there were YOUNG veterans. They looked barely 18. That's the first time I've seen young vets in a parade. It made me sad. Also, there were cars carrying family members of soldiers that were killed. I don't think I could do that if it happened to me. Talk about brave. Wow. This parade certainly was about Memorial Day. I've been to other parades that are just one advertisement after another. I'm glad it wasn't like that. God's Blessings to all you veterans and veteran family members!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the Columbus Seven. I won't get to talk to him until the end of the week, but I'm going to see if Wild Willie heard about anything like that in Oshkosh. He did say there was an incident with one of the young ladies, but it was her own doing. She had been told she would be a bank teller and when she got there, they changed her to a homeless person. She did the wardrobe, hair and make up and when she got to the set she kind of through a hissy fit and walked off the set. No one to blame there but herself.
ReplyDeleteI did get to Little Bo about three weeks ago. Filming was done and they were in the final stages of tearing things down. Had a little innocent fun playing cat 'n mouse with the security guy. But, the icing on the cake that made the whole trip worth sticking it out for two rain soaked days: Albino deer! I first saw one up near Little Bo. The next day I saw TWO just outside of Eagle River. Got a few shots--nothing spectacular, but still OK.
Rod, I found this link http://www.ussindianapolis.org/
ReplyDelete"The Worst Naval Disaster in US History
At 12:14 a.m. on July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in the Philippine Sea and sank in 12 minutes. Of 1,196 men on board, approximately 300 went down with the ship. The remainder, about 900 men, were left floating in shark-infested waters with no lifeboats and most with no food or water. The ship was never missed, and by the time the survivors were spotted by accident four days later only 316 men were still alive."
Didn't you say something about your FIL on this blog or on another blog? I was thinking you took a photo of him and DJ by a model of the Ind. USS.
Thanks for the suggestion for checking out the history of the ship.
Yea - Mel is pictured in the book "In Harms Way". He was a Marine guarding what he found out later was a part of the Atomic bomb.
ReplyDeleteHe was sleeping on the deck because it is too hot to sleep below deck (little known fact - below deck was normally 110 degrees 24/7) and was blown into the water which is what saved him.
Hope everyone is enjoying the day..
ReplyDeleteTime to remember !!!!!
My Father was a Gunner in WWII
Sorry to hear things went a stray for the extras.
Rod,That Golf Course look's real challenging.
Great Photo's again, so enjoy them...
Mars!!! How cool is this.. Just hope they can get some really good info as well as photo's from there..
~robbi
kitty b'gosh, please share the albino deer pictures! That would be an awesome sight! I'm up there a lot and know that albino deer are around, but I've never had the pleasure to see one. I've seen a black wolf and a cougar; the cougar was too close for comfort. Both amazed me beyond belief!
ReplyDeleteMeagan,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reply to my post in regards to looking for Peg who took video of me and Johnny at the 5/13 meet & greet!!! I really appreciate the info!
Peg,
If you're reading, I am anxious to get in touch with you to get a copy of the video you took. The video file name is "JD - Peg #5". You posted it on Photobucket. Let me know how I can get in touch with you. :) Thanks very much!
Anxious in MN
Anxious in MN...I'm here. You can email me at plmeddaugh at gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteThat goes for anyone else who is interested in those videos at DeppHugs on Photobucket...
My Dad was a proud American til the day he died. He served in WWII and always flew a flag at our home. I'm proud to carry on that tradition. This day is often spent remembering what he and others did to allow us to keep our freedom. Most grievously, I remember my close friend Eric who died in Iraq five years ago when his helicopter was shot down during covert operations. I get tears when I hear taps, and I agree with Lotus, silence is the best way to commemorate this day.
Thanks to technology, I was able to share this with all of you!
Have a great evening everyone!
(Especially those who are curling up with your kittehs!)
Peg
Rod - He wasn't "blown" into the water. He jumped in. But sleeping on deck WAS indeed what saved him. One of the torpedo's hit right where hit bunk was below deck.
ReplyDeleteI did not lose anybody in Iraq but did in Nam. I'm glad people are remembering others that served to keep us safe no matter WHAT the circumstances were.
ReplyDeleteMy dad was also a WWII vet. He served in the South Pacific campaign. He's no longer with us (died in 1987) but we too always had a flag at our house, and he always took part in parades as part of VFW.
ReplyDeleteA few exclusive Johnny Depp's pics here:

I forgot to say that they're from the PE filming! lol
ReplyDeleteGiovanna, it won't let me see the pictures. I don't know French but I think I have to log in.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much to all of you who shared stories of your loved ones service and sacrifice to our country.
ReplyDeleteMy Father, my brother and I are all veterans of different foreign conflicts, thankfully none of us had to make that ultimate sacrifice but we've all lost loved ones in service to our country.
Our freedoms are hard won and often taken for granted. It's good to have a day of remembrance.
Christine, thanks for the USS Indy link!
I signed up to see vanessaparadis but I have never been able to view the forum.
ReplyDeleteI know that I get a lot of hits from vanessaparadis but am not allowed to see where they are coming from.
Well I guess with all the talk lately about how bad the treatment of extras was, I should be glad I said no when they told me I got a role as an extra for the Chicago filming but I said no because I didnt want to cut my hair chin length. My hair is a few inches past my shoulders.
ReplyDeleteOK Rod (on a lighter note)- I have to say it. I heard your 'shake and dance...' line on 2 1/2 Men tonight! LOL all over again!!!

ReplyDeleteGoing back to Marcella's pics... the one with the two guys in front of the Biograph, are they just extras? Cuz when I first looked I had a moment of "Ooh Rory?!" lol
ReplyDeletedebsmad- Yep, I'm pretty sure they are just extras...
ReplyDeleteMy dad served in the Phillipines during WWII (he received a medal for helping to get another soldier out who had been shot) and my FIL was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
ReplyDeleteShaken-I remember the glass bottles of milk delivered to a small insulated box on the doorstep!! They surely wouldn't be able to afford to do that now with gas prices!!
Kitty B'Gosh-my dh got a couple pictures of an albino deer a couple of years ago walking along the side of the road in the Lake Tomahawk area; really neat to see!
I'd be more than happy to share the albino deer pics. But, sorry to say, I'm new at this blogging stuff and I don't know how to do that. If someone would so kind as to give instructions, I will post them.
ReplyDeleteApparently the albino are somewhat abundant up in that area. After I saw the first one, I happened to stop at the Travel Center in Eagle River and mentioned it to the gal there. She didn't seem the least bit fazed. She just said, "Oh, yeah. There are two that hang out around Sunset just out of town."

ReplyDeleteSue - yeah we used to get our milk that way when I was a little girl. I had a big crush on the milkman whose name was Mike Staab and who had thick wiry black hair on his legs. (I always was temped to sneak up and pull one out!) Odd the weird things we remember...
ReplyDeleteIs blogger acting weird today or is it jsut me? I can only see Marcella's pics when I am in comment mode...
