A Blog With No Title!

If you read the Columbus Journal's Letters To The Editor you will know that a lot of people (maybe only a couple) think our Mayor, Nancy Osterhaus, is a power hungry politician that is intent on doing things her way and if you get in the way you will find yourself out of work OR WORSE, the dreaded LEAVE WITH PAY! (man - THAT would suck).

Anybody in their right mind reads all of those cranky letters which are probably written by one person and file their thoughts under "angry person" and move on.

However - imagine my surprise when I take Blake out to poop and look across the street and see, A SCUD MISSILE LAUNCHER and it is aimed due south, directly at Sun Prairie.

YOU GO GIRL. That's what I'm talk'n about!!

That is what I like about Nancy. She understands the problem.

You see OUR house is the tip of the Columbus spear looking south. When the hordes of Sun Prairieytes crest the hill looking to finally conquer Columbus it is OUR house in the cross hairs.

Of course one quarter will fall ill from stepping on garbage in the Columbus dump/"quarry" and one quarter will be driven off by mosquitoes but some will drag themselves across the sharp blades of grass called "fairway" to reach our house.

It is up to my family to hold at all costs to save the rest of you and I am PROUD that our mayor has decided to back us up with a tactical ballistic missile.

On a side point I would have to think that the Letters to the Editor will have less "attacking" knowing that there could be more Scuds in the area. What else does she have up her sleeve???

She is so gnarly!

RE: production wrap

Please be advised that our production is wrapping principal photography on Monday, June 30, 2008.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Blast from the past.

Remember March 17th? Day One? It seems like so long ago. Here is one of the very first videos from that day.

We learned so much on how to be good fanboys and fangirls. Seriously, that first day no one knew how. How many of you guys had actually participated in "Standing the Line" for a major motion picture before. No one knew that base camp was what it was all about if you want to see an actor.

I'm sure other places in the country laugh but hey, it was a learning experience.

Even the videos got better throughout the shoot as people learned the bast places and best settings on their camera's. I wonder how many camera's were used for the first time.?

----------------------------
Speaking of Sweeny Todd. Jenny was watching some of the extras from the movie and gave me an idea to blog about.

What's up with The Barber's Pole.

First - picture it on your mind. When I did all I saw was a red and white stripe, yet when I see some photos they also have black stripes and some have blue stripes.

But in the beginning the barber's pole is associated with the wonderful invention of bloodletting. During medieval times, barbers were not only hair cutters but dentists and surgeons. The original pole had a brass basin at the top where leeches were kept and bottom where blood would be received. The pole itself represents the staff that the patient gripped during the procedure to encourage blood flow.

The red and white stripes on a pole symbolize the bandages that were used during a procedure. Red for the blood-stained cloths and white for the clean bandages.

Originally, these bandages were hung out on the pole to dry after washing. As the bandages blew in the wind, they would twist together to form the spiral pattern similar to the stripes on the modern day barber pole. The barber pole became emblematic of the barber/surgeon's profession. Later the cloths were replaced by a painted wooden pole of red and white stripes.

If you want to see a gnarly Barber Pole Illusion go here.

And a reminder - one of the many wonderful things about Columbus are the Fireworks (not the city Hall fireworks - the kind that fly in the air). Make sure you check them out this year.

We were told Columbus had great fireworks and we went last year (being civic minded) and were totally floored at how good they were.

Rod - off to work.

  1. Rod,
Do not use the scud launcher...have Columbus annex the farm land now. When they move in (they will) Columbus will get the tax revenue...and you will be a hero! What was the coment "it's not over till its over"?

  3. graham man - I'll forward your suggestion to Nancy - thanks.

I believe the Scud is called a "peace Scud". If all houses HAD their own Scud the world would be a safer place.

  4. Did you see Madison is going to be going around ticketing anyone that they can find shooting illegal fireworks $425! I hope that stops the jerkweeds in my neighborhood that upset Delaney and make her hide in the tub.

    ReplyDelete
  5. When we moved to our house we were thinking that FINALLY - we are out of the teenage fireworks area.

Not knowing that Fireman's Park was just over the next hill. LOL

Blake stays in the bathtub for 3 days shivering.

    He needs a Fireworks Cap!

  6. Rod,

I'm going to email you some ideas for Blake. I see this fireworks frenzy at work all the time. I shoot you an email this afternoon.

Great blog today! I never knew all that about the barber pole! I'm sad that today is the last day! I am hopefully going to finish my PE video this afternoon. Hope it works LOL

Good Luck to Minxie who is in LA today!

  7. Rod and gang;

With principle photography wrapping today on PE I wanted to take this opportunity to say a BIG THANKS to Rod and all here for providing great info, pics, videos, and just plain fun during this whole process. Based in large part to the info I got here I had some great PE adventures in Crown Point and Oshkosh. Even met Rod without knowing I was meeting 'the Rod'. lol I enjoyed reading everyone's posts about meeting each other, Kurth's, kittehs and doggies, train stations and auditoriums in a town I had not known before all this, and the road trip adventures in pursuit of 'Dillinger'. Of course there was the terrible flood of
'08 that many of us will not forget either.

I'll keep popping in here to check on things, I feel like I've come to know you all without ever having met you.

Thanks to Johnny, Michael Mann, and the whole cast and crew for making this such a fun time! I can't wait to see PE and what we've been priviledged to witness first hand.

    Thanks again;
    southern gal

    email me....pleassssseeeee

Fireworks sound pretty awesome in your town...I think we will be there for sure...

Can't wait to hear all about it!

  10. It's been a great four months! Thanks so much Rod for all the info and gossip and photos and reports from PE world. You have a fun crowd here, and the Depp effect looks like it's going to have far-reaching consequences in Wisconsin.

I remember in an early report you said how scary JD's bodyguard was. Like you say today, it was a learning experience, and even Jerry mellowed out pretty fast.

And I learned that, in WI, people eat new cheese curds - and they squeak!

    ReplyDelete
  11. My Dillinger (the gangster, not the kitten) adventure continues! We (even my husband! can you believe it?!) Are headed for Minocqua/Hazelhurst Thursday-Sunday and we are going to eat at Little Bo! HA!

    People in WI SQUEAK???? :o

    ReplyDelete
  13. I've been known to squeak with good cheese curds!

  14. The end of production is bitter sweet. It means no more filming in Wisconsin, or other mid-west city thus allowing us to learn about the proceedures used or granting us a glimpse of our favorite stars. But it also means that now that filming is "in the bag" they will be doing all of the editing and other things necessary to bring this movie to our area theaters next year!! I cannot wait! It is going to be so cool to see all of the wonderful places that this group has shared photos from! I know I'll be going to see it more than once!
Do you think Johnny liked riding on the side board of that old car so much that that is why he said his goodbyes in that manner in Lockport? Riding off into the sunset!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Think I've got my dh talked into going to see Little Bo too (don't know if it will be this weekend or a bit later in the summer). If we can make it this weekend, I'll let you know!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sue, I think we are going to dine there on Thursday...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Osh; I know we won't be there on Thursday. We both have to work. Might meet you in passing then.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sue, I will wave to you!

    we will also be doing
    this

  19. PUBLIC ENEMIES UPDATE FROM MINXIE IN L.A.!!!!

She is there! And is actually ON the set, not just by basecamp! JD is there as well as Marion, Chris Stolte, and the person who plays Frank Niti? (SP?) I don't know who that is. Apparently it is a VERY hot day in LA!

She is unsure how many people are waiting by basecamp at this point.

She will keep us updated on what's going on!

    Vicky

  20. I want to go to Little Bo :*(

  21. Hey Osh...
Please report back on Little Bo. Going up that way again in September. Last time I was there (mid May) filming had just wrapped and they were in tear-down mode so it was closed to the public. Last time I was actually in Little Bo was about 45 years ago.

    Thanks in advance.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Vicky,

TOld her to call me back in a little bit with updates!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Would it be tacky to wear my Team Dillinger shirt to Little Bo? I will have Evan wear it! Ha, my friends wanted to make it an adults only dinner and you should have seen the look on Evan's face! I quickly put the kibosh on that! I am so excited! My P.E.E. will never end.......

Of course I will document...that Sir Jack chap went last week and has pics on his blog as well.

And Minxie better have some Flat Wisconsinites on Sticks with her!

Rod-when you were writing about AVAST a few days ago, shouldn't that be "AVAST, me mateys??" LOL

    inquiring minds want to know:
so where exactly are these fabulous July 4 pyrotechnics located in Columbus??? (we missed Rhythm & booms from our secret watching area because we were @ Camp Randall watching Drum & Bugle corp competitions Saturday-our nephew is a fantastic brass player for "Carolina Crown")

    ReplyDelete
  32. My husband called me a fangirl at dinner tonight when I made the reservations.

    He is grounded.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wow!!

First, Osh--that is sooo coool you are going to Little Bo!! I hope you take lots of pictures to share--pwease?? Add the boat thing looks fun!!

Minxie is on set!! Crazy!! That is so awesome! I can't wait to hear details. That is so wonderful that she is getting her "moment" too!!!

Southerngal and Ms. Wonderland's posts made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! :)

Shakes: Shame on you...you should have had the donut for lunch and not waited til supper!! ;)

Deppfan: The fireworks are at Fireman's Park and the best place to see them is to sit in the baseball diamond where you can see all the ground stuff!! We will be there--and if anyone else wants to meet up let's do it!

    ReplyDelete
  34. ok, I am directionally challenged .... and the only time I was in Columbus was for PE downtown....

where and how does a pyro find firemans park in Columbus???

And Vicky was like, "um, we are here too."

and I was all "but this is different."

  39. Hello, all!
I'm going through PE withdrawl and I've been away from my computer too much!

I didn't write about Michael Mann yet. We saw him several times, driving by on Thursday. One of the times I yelled, "Hi, Mr. Mann!" and he actually turned around and blew me a kiss. I have to say I was quite surprised. I didn't think he payed much attention to "us little people".

    ReplyDelete
  40. I forgot about that MSW...he was crushin' on you!

    ReplyDelete
  41. They sure eat lunch late in Cali!

    ReplyDelete
  42. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  46. He was Jenny!!!! is that awesome or what!?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  47. deppfan - Minxie could probably help us out if she weren't tied up on the set! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  48. I guess I'm going to have to watch Sweeney Todd again, just so I can see Jerry.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I thought so. We paused it and I thought it looked like him under all that makeup and stuff. Hehe!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Jerry told Evan his own kids didn't even recognize him!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Osh--speaking of Evan. . .the girls said they would like to meet him sometime.

    ReplyDelete
  52. He does too Dawn! We will have you and Mike over for supper soon, how about that?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Can someone help me out? I have a friend at Santa Anita right now (dharma who's pics of SA were posted on here yesterday by Rod) and she's trying to find where Minx is watching the filming?

    ReplyDelete
  54. UPDATE:

Minxie saw them filming a kiss between Dillinger and Bille!

    LUCKY GIRL!

    ReplyDelete
  55. southern gal - I'm not sure exactly, I can receive texts, but not send well ;(

    Maybe Vicky has more info...

    ReplyDelete
  56. That sounds awesome! I haven't been to Oshkosh in a while. I know a lot has changed since we went to UWO.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well she was there earlier but they wouldn't let her stand around and watch and had to leave the area she was in. Any help would be appreciated. She's driving around the parking lot trying to find a good way in.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm not sure southern gal. I don't know the area too well. All I know is she is in a parking lot or something LOL

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks blazn, I just relayed the info. The place is huge, and any clues or details from Minx would be helpful. Thx

    ReplyDelete
  60. shakes-Minxie is "tied up" on the set......pray tell JD has her tied up.....LMAO.....is she walking the plank too ??? ;))))

    ReplyDelete
  61. Sorry, but I don't know where she is. I hope dharma finds her way around ok.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thanks anyway, blazn. Hopefully she'll find her way around.

    ReplyDelete
  63. After the 4th Dawn, we can make plans!

    ReplyDelete
  64. UPDATE FROM MINXIE AND FOR SOUTHERN GAL!!!

Minxie says to tell Dharma that they are wrapping up the filming!

She should go to the parking lot furthest away from the sunset (to the east) Then look for MInxie's white dodge pick up truck, and head to the security gates, and she will wait for her!!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Oh once she parks, Minxie said to walk towards the race track, then to the security gates!

    ReplyDelete
  66. She thinks it is a wrap in LA! Lots of cheering going on, and people coming out of the track!

    ReplyDelete
  67. A question for all you computer savvy people:

Is there a way to copy a video from you tube so that I can keep it. Like on a disc or something? I want a keepsake from Thursday.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thanks blazn for the info I'm passing it along. She said she doesn't see a truck. :( But she's still looking.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Awww well hopefully she is in the right spot! At the horse track, furthest parking lot to the east.

Minxie said her truck is a huge white one. Maybe it does not have a flat bed! Not sure!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Minxie is going to be so glad we "convinced" her to go! Not that she wasn't already convinced. Haha, sounds like she is having a great time! Amazing she got on the set... why didn't we all fly out there again?

Wrapped around 5 California time then. Not surprised, they wouldn't want to be cutting it close to midnight.

Well thanks to PE we certainly had some great times the past few months. And thank you Rod for this wonderful blog!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Dawn - Lawgirl knows how, she said she did it. I've never used You Tube before. Still trying to figure it out... If she doesn't let you know how to do it, I will make sure you get a copy next time I see you. (does your camera take sd cards?)

GOT to get my other computer fixed... LOL

    ReplyDelete
  72. Could you give them eachother's phone numbers?

    ReplyDelete
  73. So It is a wrap in LA for sure!

Johnny headed back to base camp about 5 mintues ago, and Minx got a wave from him and Jerry. She is going to find out what's going on LOL

    GO MINXIE GO!!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I thought about asking minxie, but she is too wrapped up in finding out what's going on LOL

    She cracks me up!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  84. Hi guys. I was running around all day. How the heck did Minxie get on set? That is awesome!

If you want to download a video from YouTube, then you press the play button on the video, and a box will pop up on the upper right hand part of the screen that says "download this video." I will download to whatever player is your default player. Hope that helps.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yeah, shakes, you made my blood sugar drop just hearing about all that food!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Robbi, Lawgirl - I know, It's been a pretty horrible day and I have no food in the house!

I'm very bad, wish I could say I enjoyed the donut, but I can't ;(

Lawgirl, thanks for helping Dawn out (and me too!) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Yes, Minxie confirms that there are only 3 of them there waiting.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Oh my gosh! They get a private audience with JD. Not like the 1500ish we had to compete with.

    ReplyDelete
  89. WOW!!!!! With only 3 of them waiting they will probably get autographs, hugs, kisses, etc. And real conversation. You should tell her if she has a chance to say hi from us WI girls. But not if she has limited time. In that case she needs to enjoy her moment. They are so lucky!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Oh, BTW- i stopped by my wish child's house today to drop off the autograph, and there was a note by the door stating that he was resting and not to knock or ring the bell, so I just left it by the door. I don't think he is doing very well. I guess he may go at any time. It is so sad.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Very sorry to hear that Tiffany...
    ; (

    ReplyDelete
  92. Thanks-but let's focus on good stuff, like Johnny.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Minxie, Arus, and Dharma are sitting at basecamp as the sun is going down right by johnny's trailer.

A few more people have shown up!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Yeah, good stuff like Minx hanging out at Johnny's trailer ; )

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'M SO HAPPY FOR HER!!!!
She's been like a coach or cheerleader to all of us as we've had our moments, now it's HER turn!

    makes me wanna cry!
    in a good way!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I'm sitting at the edge of my seat!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Minxie says thank you for the well wishes. They are still waiting for Johnny to come out, if he does. There are now a whole 5 people there LOL

    ReplyDelete
  98. Tiff- I am so sorry about your wish child. Hopefully the Johnny autograph will brighten his spirits!

Minxie sounds so happy on the phone! She's having a GREAT time!!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Wow, I go away for a few days, sans computer, and I have hours of comments to read...
First of all, Minxie...you rock! I'm so happy that she is One of THREE to meet him! Guess Jerry has only one barricade to check, haha...
Vix, great job keeping in touch with them and getting Dharma in...you have a gift, my friend!

Osh, how funny you are making reservations...my sis and I set a date to go to Little Bo in July when we visit our other sis in Wausau...planning to visit the Biograph in September since we never got there!

MSW, if you don't have real player, Lawgirl's idea for downloading youtube may not work. Let me know, I have an alternate route.

Lawgirl, you are awesome! I'm so glad I got to meet you the other night and hope strawberry festival was fun :)

Can't wait to hear more from LA!

    PE lives!

  100. So, in other news, I took Dillinger the Kitteh to the vet today and he has an upper respiratory infection and is on meds. He is so sadly looking and sounding. He keeps sneezing and coughing on me, so I think he should wear a mask.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Oh Oshy - I know you are giving him LOTs of lovin... Does she need a mask Doc?

Today I heard on the news about a man who died from catching a thing from his bird!!!
Psiticocis or something like that I'm sure I spelled it wrong...

    ReplyDelete
  102. Poor Dilly-Kitteh. I'm sure he will be feeling better very soon. What about your other kitty?

    ReplyDelete
  103. OMG the anticipation is killing me! I told myself no hanging out on the computer tonite, but I CANNOT help it!!! LOL

Osh, did he get the liquid antibiotics? or a pill? I sure hope you don't have to pill him!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Momma's new daddy came by tonight to get eye meds, her eye goop is back... ;(

    ReplyDelete
  105. grinder2 must be a test profile and I logged in with a different email address . . . . . or sumptin

    ReplyDelete
  106. My other kitteh, Lucy Fur is on the same meds as Dilly...her chronic whateveritis seems to be better. So my youngest and oldest are the only broken ones, but should be fixed soon. I know Dillinger is feeling poorly when he doesn't even pretend to ambush his sisters...and he has some weird eye ointment that makes him glow in the dark!...however, after 2 doses of antibiotics he is perked up just enough to chew on the laptop.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Osh, you don't need to wear a mask! LOL

cats get URI all the time. Esp if they are from the outdoors.

Update from Minxie: She will call me later and let me know what's going on. So far, nothing new.

    ReplyDelete
  108. liquid Shakes, it is chicken flavored for his pleasure.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Not me Vicky! Dillinger should be wearing the mask!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Urrrgh. I don't know if I can stay awake. . .

    ReplyDelete
  111. and does he find it a pleasure???
    LMAO!

    ReplyDelete
  112. We prob wont hear from Minxie again for a few hours since it is only 6:45pm ( or is it 7:45??) in Cali. We shall see.

    ReplyDelete
  113. well, Lucy does not.
Dillinger was so sad at the vet, he wouldn't even take the treat, and he LOVES the treat. He can't taste flavor! It should come back soon though and then he will thank me for all the pleasure!

    ReplyDelete
  114. OH! and when he goes in for his ::whispers:: ball removal

they are going to flush his ears out, the ear mite debris is so bad...they are gone, but they left behind a heck of a mess.

Other than that Dillinger is perfect in every way!

  119. Hi! y'all! I was just goin'
down memory road...reading the posts from pre-March17th. I find it interesting who is still here (yes, I'm still here) and who's not here (Really...I'm still here). We have a real interesting bunch here...and I think we really like each other. WE HAVE TO KEEP THIS GOING!!!

The Who'ses are (mostly)(not #5) off on a band trip, two parades in Canada tomorrow for Dominion Day (I think)(Their Independence Day)then off to the East Coast...(wife & I are argueing) ME or MA, two parades on 7/4...then Boston, Philly...Cedar Point (OK, that's mostly fun). Then home.

They told me that the only thing they really wanted to know is if Minxie got to meet Johny (Mr.) Depp. They were so excited for her...they wanted it to happen.

    Minxie,

Let me know...they are calling me tomorrow!
