The Ghost at the Train Station is Smiling

The Train Station Gets A New Look
------------------------------------------------------
I'll start with The Train Station.

First I MUST get all the thank yous out of the way and I'll do it in chronological order.

Kim and Sharon were the advanced guard and cleaned the waiting room to prep for the Train Gang and it really helped not having to clean before splashing on paint.

Thank you to the Osterhaus's for providing most of the white paint (all but 2 gallons).

A HUGE thanks to Home Expressions for providing color tint for the paint - GREAT job!!

A very very special thank you to Kris Hardesty for providing Color Consultation - GREAT choices (Kris does Painting, Wallpapering & Design 920-988-1271 and has a great eye for color) and Terry (Left Hand Louie), both did a HELL of a lot of work yesterday and they get a gold star.

Thanks to the Rod who is not me, the wonderful Amtrak train station dude who provided free pizza and drinks for lunch.

Thanks to The Pizza Shack for hand-tossing in a pizza or two - awesome pizza -Grazie.

Thanks to the weather Gods for giving us perfect weather AND in a small bizarre way for creating a flood on the tracks between Columbus and Reeseville which prevented the Milwaukee 261 or ANY trains to stop in Columbus. The Rod who is not me said IF this would had been a normal June 21st there would have been 200+ people using the waiting area on that day.

And lastly thank you to the Train Gang, Kris, Terry, Rianna, Betty, Suz, Sue, John, Cassie, Jordy, Jenny, Robbi, Caralea, Mary, Michelle,Sabra & Chelsea.
------------
In a perfect example of American efficiency it took seventeen people from four different towns eight hours to complete the task.

Here are the first photos - you can see DJ already starting to stress out. Notice the wonderful colors we were about to change. I think WHITE was the theme the last time the place was painted.

Here you see Michelle and Kris applying the new paint to the walls and Left Hand Louie talking to his agent.
Here is Caralea on her way to becoming a giant paint ball as she becomes one with the paint. She had awesome energy.

And a couple photos I stole from Michelle's blog showing how it looked. For more/better photos of the event make sure you check out Michelle's blog.

Looks way way better doesn't it. BRAVO!!!!!

Stage two will now be collecting STUFF for the walls. The first will be Public Enemies memorabilia. If you have something you would like to have on the walls contact Kim at the Visitor Center. (920) 623-5325

We are looking for framed photos, montages or anything else. 11x14 or larger in a black frame. If you wish to sell the piece you can put a card on it with info. Kim will have details.

Two Worlds Colliding at The Kurth.

Sounds ominous but all went well. There were two birthday parties. One for Shakenbis and one for Ed. The fun thing was both parties would look at each other and whisper "who are they".

Then we would mingle and both sides got to know the other - it was great to meet new people. We had an outstanding lightning display which many people watched and then calls were made to Chicago to see where Public Enemies were filming and for how long!

BAM - all of a sudden there is a road trip forming and Blaze and Crew drive to Chicago and arrive about 1AM.

First from Marcella

Just got back from the filming tonight... I came down on Congress and saw all the filming to the left at the Auditorium building. Base camp was right across the street. Because of this Johnny walked to the set instead of being driven. We were able to watch him come and go, escorted by police and of course Jerry, from across the yellow line. It was never that crowded from there, and it was a nice view. Marion Cotillard was also there...

A block away on Michigan Ave the old cars were lined up. After watching JD's stand-in in the drivers seat, JD himself appeared. We had a nice view as he got into the car, and drove off with the rest of the cars following. Although we are not sure exactly where they went, the chain of cars passed by base camp twice, the second time stopped there. We watched Michael Mann and Johnny talk for a few minutes, exchange a hug, and them walk into base camp.

Becky has a GREAT video of this... Around 2:45 (I think?) Johnny reemerged from his trailer. Somehow we had completely missed them putting up yellow tape at the other entrance to base camp. Following others rushing towards the corner, we found ourselves feet away Johnny Depp.

I was FINALLY able to get my hug (actually 2 :) ) As well as an autograph. I met a bunch of you guys, in addition to some people whom I had met yesterday hanging around basecamp. Was wonderful to meet you all. Becky and I walking down the street, "Are YOU Marcella and Becky?" Lol

This is JD's Aunt and Uncle - very nice people that drove up from Kentucky!

Here is mail from Blaze and there adventure to Chicago.

Just thought I would write you a little note to say that we had a great time at the Kurth last night, and we finally made it down to Chicago around 1am. It took us a while to get to base camp (go to Osh's blog, or my blog to read that part).

Johnny was there, as well as Marion (although I did not see her). They filmed some scenes prior to us arriving, and then when Johnny exited his trailer at around 2:45am ish, he went off to do some street scenes in his car. He went around the block a couple of times, being pulled by a trailer, and followed by a few more 1930's style cars. Then he returned to his trailer. He came out to meet his fans about 1/2 hour after he returned to base camp, and signed autographs. Osh, and Evan, did a great job making sure that Mary's daughter (Caralea?) got her purse signed by Johnny. I got to briefly utter a few words, but I just left it at that. I had hoped for a photograph, but I think everyone else there was after that as well. Oh well, it's life, and it has been a great ride!

Chicago is no Columbus, that's for sure, but all in all it was a great time. There was some pushing, and shoving by the crowds, and a lot of screaming. In fact, at one point, dozens and dozens of people started screaming, and chasing Johnny's car down the road. I couldn't believe it! I guess I have just never been in a place where this has happened before.

Caralea with signed purse

And one last thing that many many people have commented on and I'd like to share. You are not the only ones to feel this way. In a comment from Becky.

Also... I wanted to share this with all of you.. I'm sure it doesn't make much sense as I am exhausted but there is someone on the IMDB message boards who works on the crew and I don't know if it's just me but he rubs me the wrong way, (a lot of people Becky) he's always making it seem like we are so stupid for trying to see Johnny or any filming of the movie and today I just had it, he left some snide remark to me. Here's just one of his remarks and here is the reply I left....

Him.... told you so... hows that $4.50/ gallon gas treating you? Where in the heck are we? Just wait for the movie to come out...

Me.....Yes... it sucks to pay $4.00 a gallon for gas (it's a bit cheaper in WI) but you know what..... it doesn't matter to me... maybe some people on this board (IMDB) have never truly been a "fan" of someone or appreciated their work so much that they would do just about anything to let that person know how much they affected their lives but Johnny has done that for me...

I am 33 years old and have loved Johnny's work since the first time I saw him in 1984... that is a LONG time to admire someone and to get that chance to let him know that... I'd pay just about anything, all it really cost me was $ for gas, tolls and my time... he has given me far more then that! Johnny is nothing but gracious and humble and he works so hard all day but still takes the time to meet all his fans and when I see him meeting all of us he really looks like he couldn't be happier. It was amazing and I hope everyone who wants to meet him gets a chance.

(BRAVO!!!! well said)

Also.. I have to say that John Michael Bolger is one of the nicest people I have EVER met... he gave us an amazing speech about following your dreams, I got home last night about 4:30am and had to be to work by 9am so I haven't had a chance to put my pics or the video of JMB up yet... but I will and I hope you all enjoy it!
--------------------------------
And now I must go water my flowers and have some breakfast!

Thanks again everyone!!!

OH - the ghost!

It seems a well known Columbus person (who shall remain nameless) was driving past the train station about 10:00 at night and noticed a shadowy figure standing next to the station. He had an old brimmed hat and was looking at what LOOKED like a pocket watch. Like he was waiting for a train or something.

The Columbus person thought this was rather odd and decided to investigate to make sure there was nothing going on.

The stranger just . . . . . vanished not to be seen again. This is hard to do if you know the train station. It's on it's own little island. A person can not just disappear.

hmmmmmmm!

  7. Wow I cannot believe the difference from the old to the new paint! It was fun hanging out with everyone. I agree it was a great weekend!

Rianna asked for my chocolate cake recipe, so here you go and glad you enjoyed it!! I found it online and sort of combined it with another similar recipe.

    Never Too Much Chocolate Cake

1 pkg devils food cake mix
1 small pkg instant chocolate pudding
    1 cup sour cream*
    1 cup vegetable oil*
    4 eggs beaten
    1/2 cup warm water
    1 tsp vanilla
    2 cups mini chocolate chips

mix the cake mix, pudding mix, sour cream, oil, beaten eggs, water and vanilla well. Stir in the chocolate chips. The batter will be THICK.

Put the batter into a well greased bundt pan and bake at 350 degrees for 50-55 minutes. Cool completely for about an hour or so and invert on a plate..sprinkle with powdered sugar.

*That is the regular recipe, but when I made it, I could not bring myself to use a whole cup of oil, so I used a 1/2 cup of applesauce and a 1/2 cup of oil. I also used light sour cream. I don't think it needs frosting, but a chocolate glaze I bet would make it even more nummy.

  8. Becky and Marcella! It was great to meet you in Chicago....I hope we can meet up again soon!

Great job on the painting EVREYONE!! It looks awesome!!!

Johnny was very nice to fans as he came out to meet them. I guess it's just not in the cards for me to get a picture with him LOL

It was a bit chaotic, but I guess I am just used to how it had been in Columbus and Milwaukee. I was a bit taken back by Chicago.

The ghost....sounds interesting. I wonder who it could have been, and where he has gone hmmmmmmmm

great blog Rod! And don't worry about the people on IMDB....it's like 2 totally different worlds between them and us. When I am here, I feel the "love" and friendship between everyone, over there it is like little kids playing telephone. (If you remember that game) LOL I don't really know any of them, so maybe that's why I fell that way. Who knows.

  9. I love the new look of the train station and can't wait to see what everyone adds in the form of photos and posters! And it really didn't seem like it took that long with so many wonderful people to work with!
Is there any written history on the train station that tells of anyone dieing there??? Interesting tale!
Blazn, maybe you and I should start a group of "just not in the cards that we get to meet JD"?!! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sue & Blzn: I didn't get to meet JD directly either.....that's why I am so jealous of everyone else 'round here getting to meet him.....can I join too???

I did get to see filming twice, and love the fact that you can "feel the love" here!

everyone here shares their PE experiences of pics, stories, video and most importantly themselves with everyone else who for whatever reason didn't get adirect meeting....THANKS for doing that it means alot

  15. DJ AND i went into the station today. The place had about 8 people in the waiting room and the place look so peaceful - NOT like the asylum white.

It felt much safer. To bad the guy who was NOT the guy named Rod that was not me was there. He refused to turn on the lights.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Great job painting everyone! Rod, are they looking for photos and newspapers or just memorabilia about PE?

I think there's quite a few people who haven't had the chance. In fact, I've had over 400 hits on my video in 24 hours. I think we all love seeing Johnny (and Jerry ;) )as the real people they are and how truly wonderful "stars" can be.

Blazn, Osh, Shakes, I can go in the afternoon on Thurs if that's ok...I'll try to get some info this week...

  19. Ok guys... so I don't know if I'm ever gonna catch up on my sleep but oh well! Sorry to keep you all waiting... here are my blogs and videos....

    Public Enemies Chicago...

    This is from Thurs night..

I went to Chicago to see more of the taping of Public Enemies, I wasn't really expecting to see much since the past few days we were either in the wrong place at the wrong time or because they were filming at prisons we couldn't see much... but we lucked out and found where base camp was, met up with some fellow fans and found out they were shooting in 2 different locations, one was in a "bad" area so we were told we should NOT go there, the other was a block away at Union Station, while we were waiting there we met John Michael Bolger who plays Martin Zarkovich in the movie, he was probably the nicest guy I've ever met! He also brought over Branka Katic and she was really nice as well. We also met Johnny's Aunt, Uncle, Step-Mom and Dad.. they were all gracious when we asked for pictures, Johnny looks alot like his Dad! We got to see Johnny leave to head to the set, he rolled down the window and waved and his driver went really slow so we could all see him, We headed over to Union Station but we couldn't see any of the filming but we knew they were there because we saw both Johnny's Expedition and Michael's Range Rover, we got some food and went back to base camp to wait. After awhile Jerry said that we could each have 1 item signed, I brought a picture I'd taken at the Milwaukee shoot, it was a 8x10 they took them to Johnny in his trailer to sign then brought them back out, then about 30 min later Johnny came out, we weren't allowed to pose for pictures with him but we could shake his hand and hug him.. it was awesome, he was amazing as always. A little girl and her brother were there and Johnny got down to their level to talk to them and the little girl gave him a flower to give to Lily-Rose, it was adorable. I just asked for a hug and thanked him for coming out to see us and told him I couldn't wait for the movie. Here are some videos I took one of John Michael and one of Johnny.. enjoy...

    Public Enemies Chicago Part 3

So I couldn't sleep when I got home, just thinking they were there and I was missing it was driving me crazy. I didn't want to drive again so I asked Mike if he'd take me, he said he would but we needed to go now. It was a horrible drive, we were litterally stopped in traffic forever, Marcella kept sending me pics of Johnny walking by, he was across the street but still I was missing it, it was frusterating but luckily we got their just as Johnny was filming a driving scene, we saw him get into the car on the truck which actually I think is the truck Sarah and I were sitting on last night waiting for JD.. thought that was funny. They drove around the block but I didn't get any good pics, once filming was done we ran over to where the truck was and I got a awesome video of Johnny and Michael Mann talking... my camera doesn't allow you to zoom in and out once your filming so after 40 seconds I lost Johnny, the rest is nothing but I don't know how to edit the end of it, it's also a little shaky cuz I was trying to see around people heads, but it's a great video Johnny and Michael hug and Michael pats Johnny on the back, it is great! I wasn't too hopeful for Johnny to come out to meet fans because there were just so many people there but of course he did because he's an amazing guy. I asked if I could take a pic with him, there was a tall fence between us and a million people behind me were pushing, I was nervous and trying to hurry before Jerry yelled at me so it's not the best pic, but I don't care, that's all I wanted was a pic with him and I finally got it! I also took a really short video of Johnny signing autographs for people. Thanks for being amazing Johnny! Only 5 more days of filming... Ahhhhh!!!!

  22. Movie Star Wife- Come down on Thursday! (Or even Wednesday... you won't need to wake up the next day ;))I know Vicky was mentioning a bunch of them might come down on Thursday too.

Becky- Love your "best picture ever" It was a bit hard for me to watch Thursday's M&G. That one looked better then yesterday... No way am I complaining tho. Did you upload the movie of JD and MM? And I love how I'm in that one video. haha

  23. Thanks Marcella! Vicky--are you out there? Can I hitch a ride?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yep, that was me... I didn't want to stop the video in case there was more to see but I couldn't find him... that's why there is nothing after 40 seconds but those 40 seconds are AMAZING! =)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I know they are! Can you email them to me? I kind of want to post it on fb...

This is making me so impatient for tomorrow!

  33. Yeah! I hope I can go. Long day and night--NO PROBLEM!

    ReplyDelete
  34. So Chicago is calling once again.. I'll be going tomorrow with probably a carload. I think it will be me and 3 friends, we'll meet up with Marcella and her Mom when we get there.. since there are only a few days left, I'd be suprised if I don't go down everyday. I'm SO sick of driving there though! I could REALLY do without the construction, traffic and tolls. JD makes it all worthwhile though

    ReplyDelete
  35. Becky- I think I'll be taking the train into Union Station with a friend and then catch a cab. My mom will meet up with us again. Most likely anyways...

Apperantly my Dad's starting to want to come now too?

Don't worry! Different friend, I don't think we will have a repeat of Thursday. I could never handle that.

SOOOOOOO glad you got your picture, Becky! There's only five more days of filming; and no chance I'll get to any of them if they're all in Chicago! Maybe Johnny will do another film in WI. with all of the new incentives and perhaps Blazn and Deppfan and I will have our chance then!

  40. Pretty exciting over at IMDB LOL

  41. From what I heard on Friday night:

5 days shooting in Chicago, and one in LA

The crew guy said that the 5 days in Chicago would all be next week, so I don't know about the LA thingy on Tuesday. Only one way to find out!

    IMDB huh?

MSW- We'll let you know what's going on...don't worry!

    vicky

    ReplyDelete
  42. According to Herestoyou on JDR (NOT to be confused with Herenotthere on IMDb!) the Saturn Awards are Tuesday in CA also. Maybe JD will be making an appearance there since he's nominated. (Along with many others from both SW and POTC) Check out the site:

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ok, I normally don't talk about the tabloid reports, but according to Star magazine....Johnny got married yesterday. Then I saw on a few other websites, some comments about him getting married.

I thought that his publicist said there was no truth to the rumors....maybe that's all they are. Who knows....I don't believe a word of it!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jenny, I sent my pictures that I took yesterday to Rod. But if you'll email me at
scrapper11@charter.net, I'll send them to you too.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hey Sue, I just emailed you :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Rod - Why are you going over to IMDB? You know they are all just a bunch of cranky A-Holes over there anyways. Don't waste your time!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I can drive to Chicago on Thursday...I will be going via 151-90...I can fit 5 in my car...so far I have Vix, Betty, Rachel and MSW...this is tentative at best...I have cleared my schedule...Both Vix and Shakes can vouch for my city driving...just don't put bugs in my car or come to my window with one leg, beg for money and then crutch block me so that I miss my turn. I might say the F word.

Evan will not be going with this time. As it gets closer we will need to find a central meeting place...the gals I mentioned above are all sorta on my way from Oshkosh...all I ask is help with gas, tolls and parking...

    ReplyDelete
  48. So Osh, Could I just come with you all?

    ReplyDelete
  49. well Cybermom, maybe we can take 2 cars??? Nothing is in stone yet and I would hate for you not to be able to go...
    I need a van.

    ReplyDelete
  50. From someone from LA that knows such things.

My gut feeling in that Johnny has wrapped aside from LA. He hugged MM and MC after he finished shooting last Friday. That's not normal, he hugs fans, not co-workers.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well, I guess we'll have to see, Osh. It seemed pretty crowded. But you're right, so much is in the air right now.

Maybe Super Sleuth Becky can do some digging tomorrow while she's there?
Anyone else heading to Chi town?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Talking to my LA contact there is something missing in the movie that is a very important part.

That scene has not bee shot yet and it was suppose to be in Columbus.

As for Johnny being finished. This makes sense with all his relatives showing up.

I wonder if there is a sneak attack filming going to happen on the hush.

    Just thinking out loud.

    ReplyDelete
  53. JD is attending the premiere of Gonzo in LA on Tuesday

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well, he was also rumored to be getting married to Rod, maybe that is why his family is in town!

    LOL

    ReplyDelete
  55. Oh, that would be sweet, Rod! :) Let's get a calling tree put together!! LOL

That uncle has to be his father's brother!

Tired from a long double shift (was okay!) so I'm not posting a bunch, but once again-a phenomenal crew Saturday. I wish I didn't have to leave....

It's weird not having trains go through, isn't it? I knew something was amiss, but didn't pinpoint the trains not whistling until about five days ago. :( Those whistles give me great comfort, and I miss them.

Need some R & R. I'll try to blog again soon to update the job situation. It seems to be improving!!

    Nite all~

  62. I read somewhere that the scenes were supposed to be shot in WI but will be shot somewhere else.. =( Believe me, I'd rather drive to Columbus then Chicago, this is sad news. I'm also inclined to believe JD is done... everything I'm hearing points that way, I might still try tomorrow, I probably will. LOL Here is something about the "wrap party" =( Booo!

  64. Ok.. it must be too long.. here is what it says, it's a memo to the crew

    PUBLIC ENEMIES MEMO

    To: All Departments
    From: Production
    Date: 6/18/08
Re: Wrap Party Department Guest List

    To all Department Heads:

The Public Enemies Wrap Party is quickly approaching and the Production Office needs to make final arrangements on the guest list.

Unfortunately since this is a very large show, the Production Office cannot invite everyone on the crew- As a result, we would like to extend an invitation to deserving crewmembers, which have been working
on this show for more than 40 days. Please see the attached pages of crewmembers we have listed in your department to invite.

Please return your department guest list to [name redacted] in the Production office by Friday, June 20. lf the Production Office does not have your guest list by the end of the day on Friday, we will only invite department heads and their seconds.

Any questions or concerns, please contact [name redacted] at the Production office at xxx-xxx-xxxx.

Please remember that all guests are subject to approval by the UPM.

Thank you for your help and cooperation.

  69. WHat are you basing this on Marcella? That he needs to be in LA on Tuesday? He was able to pull of the MTV awards and be back on the set...Have you read anything that confirms his shooting is completed? Or is this just speculation? We were told my several crew members 5 days in Chicago and one in LA.

  70. I have lived in Chicago all my life, but even I would say that a lot of the Chicago fans watching the filming Friday night were rude.

  72. Oohhh! grape soda on the gun, that Prple Martin sounds interesting! Thanks Becky...

I think I may die when this is all wrapped ; )

  73. I would die if they DID end filming in Columbus!! Wouldn't that be sweet?!!!!! I think it's only fitting to have the first and last day of filming in the same
place!! Will be watching THIS very carefully!!

  74. Is there any truth to this or is this just some outloud wishing or thinking :) It would bring the project full circle but isn't the clock ticking for this to happen.

At least we know you will keep us updated on things. Would Columbus be able to handle filming after the flooding or is everything semi back to normal?

  75. I think we all love seeing Johnny ,,.....
