Truth in Advertising

God I love summer. Hot and humid, short shorts and tank tops, windows open and loud music!

Summer! BRING IT!
=====================================
Some of you will notice that there is a little google ad on the bottom of each blog. How this works is google somehow reads each blog and figures out an appropriate ad for the words. Now normally it's all about grinders and other stuff having to do with my nickname and I make my penny a day.

However last night I looked and BAM 65 cents! WOW - I'm going to get rich. I wonder what the ad was???? So I log on to see what is getting people so excited!

Gas and Bloating Relief

Sadly I think it is all about my homebrew! I was reading the Homebrew forum and one of the posts Subjects is "my homebrew gives me HORRIBLE gas".

OH MAN! It's going to get pretty exciting that first night at the Kurth when I unveil my "Scorched Earth Brown".

NO OPEN FLAMES!!!

Because a few of you were asking about it last night here is a photo of the progress at Grinders Island Brewery. The left carboy contains Scorched Earth Brown an American Brown Ale. The right carboy contains Lazy Porter a Brown Porter (as opposed to a Robust Porter or a Baltic Porter).

Progress? The Scorched Earth will be racked into a secondary carboy for clearing perhaps this weekend and will stay there a week. Then bottled and perhaps 2 more weeks of bottle aging. This is actually a longer process then needed. Most homebrewers are so anxious that they start drinking their new brew within 2 weeks , it taste yucky and they never brew again.

A homebrew will get better with age for up to a month or two of bottle aging and will stay fresh for 6 weeks.

With Scorched Earth in a secondary carboy this clears up the Primary carboy for something NEW!! WHOO HOO

OK - enough beer talk.
==================================
I saw something pretty cool on the radar yesterday before I left work and called a coworker over to see it. A gust front! Amid all of the storms was this tiny line traveling south and then it escaped the big storm and was free.

We both watched it saying this was something you don't see every day on the radar.

What happens is that the cold air is push towards the earth so fast, like a mammoth downdraft that it has no where to go so it pushes out. This is called a "fine line" and in most cases it is actually insects that have been caught in the colliding winds at the front that is showing on the radar.

Awesome!!
===================================
I went to the dentist today. Not sure how long I have been going to him, 25 years? He keeps moving farther and farther away from me though. When I first started with him he was a few miles away. He kept moving farther and farther west and I keep moving farther and father north and east!

Takes a couple days to get to the west side of Madison now . . I'm not even sure he is IN Madison, Middleton???

WOW - now THAT is a boring topic, even boring me a little! Moving along!
==================================

It's almost lunch time (I just got back) so it's a small blog today.

I'll talk about Michelle tomorrow :-) and her little Canon friend! (insert evil laugh).

  2. I love the blog. It was great meeting you last night at Kurth's. Sorry I wasn't more talkative but it is alot to take in. When you unveil your brew I will remember to bring my camera to capture any explosions for the news later :) I never thought of beer causing gas that was interesting.

  4. Can anyone recommend a good local roofer? We need a new roof, so Josh is calling around today for people to come give us estimates; but it would be nice to know if anyone has had experience with anyone specific... Anyone get a new roof on their house lately?

  5. First I want to say that I hope you had a fantastic birthday, Robbi!
    Secondly, I love the downtown
    Columbus/auditorium vision!!
Third, I think some straightline winds came through Beaver Dam yesterday afternoon. Our daughter's neighborhood had several trees either uprooted or broken off and a powerpole broken. They live in the Hwy. 33 area where I heard the most damage was suffered in the Dodge Co. area. Two homes were just barely nicked by the fallen trees.

  6. My great grandfather used to brew beer. He would age it in the bottles in the basement. Was lots of fun when the bottles would start exploding....(expecially during Sunday dinner with the Bishop as the guest of honor). :o)

  7. Yea carol - bottle bombs are always fun. That is actually a flaw in the technique and happens very very rarely now.

You have to put a little sugar in the final batch before you bottle for final carbonation and I would guess the ones exploding were from the beer on the bottom of the bucket where the sugar would sink.

NOT that I'm trying to diss your dad or anything LOL

Angel - one of the problems with a larger crowd is lack of real 1 on 1 conversations. I started towards you several times but never seemed to make it.

It can get "hectic" and as long as you are comfy just sitting back and taking it all in - no worries.

It really is a fun group and if PE has done anything it has brought a lot of people from different backgrounds together that normally would have missed each other.

That's one of the beautiful things. Everyone is so different with different experiences.

Any other lurkers out there that are shy - take angels suggestion (not that she actually suggested it) come on down - pull up a seat and take it all in. No one forces others to talk - It's all good.

PLUS - You will have a chance to get real gassy soon!

  8. Hi Angel!
It was nice meeting you last night! ;) Also very brave of you, I thought. I was lucky in that I got to meet people gradually and not all at once in a big group like that (not sure I'd have been that brave!)

  9. Jenny,
I know a good roofer, who prices right, but not sure if he'd come to C-bus (maybe he would though) Let me know if you want me to approach him...

  10. Yeah, Betty was the first Kurth visitor from the blog. Then it was Suz. And that nice couple from Waukesha? I can't remember there names... Are you two still out there somewhere?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Then Michelle came followed by Osh and Sue and Mary and Kris and Louie and Tracy and Kathy and Rick then Rianna and Conner and Evan and John and his Who's-it's and Robbi and Vicky and soon Cableman and Osh's husband and Caralea and now angel...

    I hope I'm not forgetting anyone... :(

    ReplyDelete
  12. I suppose, I could include my hubby too :) <3

    ReplyDelete
  13. Brooks, Chelsea, and Cassie are included in the who's-its... I don't know the other who's-its girls names though :(

  14. Glad people are getting excited about Gas and Bloat Relief!!!
Exploding bottles could be a fun time...as long as it is outside!!

Angel~ So glad you came with Osh last night and we got to meet you..
Your next time will be a breeze!

Jenny was not kidding about the Taco Pizza. Yummo!

    Sue~Thank's for the B-Day Wishes..
Sorry to hear about your daughters neighbor hood.Hope they are all ok...

Jenny~ Sorry I don't know of a Roofer, but you do make us smile!
To remember like that is so sweet!

  15. Jenny - R&R Construction was recommended to us for the flat roof we have (by several people). But we haven't called them yet. I've seen the work of one roofing company that I would NOT recommend, but the guy keeps changing the name of his business. I'll see if I can hunt down the name.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Kris, yeah if you can find the name of the "bad" roofer, let me know. So we don't go with him.

R&R was one of the ones Josh called this morning. So we'll have to see how their estimate is. If it is good, then maybe we'll go with them, since you know people who've had good experiences.

    Thanks :)

  17. gas makes me smile.

And that nice couple from Waukesha?

yea they are still around - closer then you might think ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hi Jenny,
This is Mike from Waukesha, one half of that nice couple from Waukesha ha,ha. (The actual nice one is Peggy). Back then I was "Male #5". The night we were at the Kurth, 4/11, we met you and your Mom, Rod, Michelle, Suz, and Julie. The big topic that night was the Japanese magazine.
PS...Vicki: We will be at the Wauk. County Fair Friday for the Livestock Auction and Sat. for the Pancake breakfast. I know what you look like...but you don't know us so it would help to have "someone on a stick" for ID purposes. I know that has worked in the past!!
    Mike

  19. Hey Mike!

Long time no see. You and Peggy should come back to the Kurth again sometime :) It would be fun!

  26. Hello Everyone!

I've been fretting all week trying to figure out what to write after Rod had called me out twice this week in his blog.

    You see, I am a lurker (there, I admit it. . .)

I've been reading this blog for months and love it! But as I've been reading, I'm realizing what a small world it is . . .

I live just up the road from Rod and can see his house from my back yard - AND I know all about the "neighbor lady!" I too have had a run in with her.

I chuckle at the blog and all the comments - it is very entertaining, plus I learn a lot!

I've learned about the flood, PE, kittehs, Kurths and now beer making!

I have to agree that Day One Taco pizza is excellent and we really need a diner in downtown C-bus!

Jenny - I drive by your house everyday to/from work. Also, back in June I had to have a few shingles replaced on my roof (nasty wind on Grinder's Island) and I called T&R Roofing - within 4 hours my shingles were replaced. They were very prompt, efficient and nice!

Well that's all for now on my first official post!

    -Rhonda

Robbi, I'm glad you had a good time on your birthday and sounds like a fun time today too!

It was such a fun time last night. That is the great thing about his blog. So many people have come to know each other and become friends. All I can say is that I feel so blessed to know each and every one of you. You have no idea.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, Robbi, eat some Italian food for me!!
The first time I went to Kurth's, that was the first time I had ever done anything like that!!! I would never have thought I would walk into a bar all by myself to meet people that I only knew by "aliases"!! But I knew from the blog that these were all friendly
aliases so I wanted to get to know them better!
Hi, Rhonda; nice to "meet" you. Hope to MEET you at the Kurth's sometime soon! Is anyone going there tomorrow night?
