Who's Your Daddy

I could not resist that title. For some reason when I saw these two photos side by side SOMEBODY had to say "Who s Your Daddy". I'm not even sure if it is appropriate or what it means but ONE of those guys is saying it!! Some pretty nice photos of scenes I have not seen before.

I believe they were taken by Hunter Rider but I could be wrong - anyway I am giving credit to SOMEBODY - please correct me!
==================================

Many of you have seen the new Dark Knight movie of which I have not (all in good time). But the one I'm really waiting for is Watchmen. This is another graphic Novel that really turned a lot of peoples heads way back in 1987.

I still have the original 12 issues.

I didn't "collect" many comics (graphic novels) but it seems the ones I DID collect are all of a sudden turning into movies. Dark Knight, Watchmen, The Tick, The Sandman (coming soon)From Hell, Sin City, V for Vendetta.

Funny - I think the best graphic novel I ever read LOOKS like the most childish. Bruce at Capitol City Comic's for YEARS told me I had to read it but I would look at the black and white drawings and poo poo it. Then one day I was in Borders and saw the book, all 1,332 pages and with a gift card I picked it up!

WOW - what a wonderful light-hearted, dark, epic fantasy/comedy. It has won ten Eisner Awards (creative achievement in American comic books) and eleven Harvey Awards (achievement in comic books).

BUT - I'm getting carried away. If anyone wants to borrow it let me know (or any of the above).

Back the Watchmen. Below (somewhere) is the trailer for Watchmen - check it out!!! I got chills!!

The Watchmen Trailer!
==========================

Back on the highway.

If you remember I was in a car with two incense snorting yoo-hoos Beavus and Butthead. They were in need of money to fulfill their dreams of selling drugs on a beach in California and had decided to talk to one guys sister in an up coming town. They called her and she was not home but they knew a way to get inside the house to "borrow" some money.

They drove up to the house in this typical suburban neighborhood with picket fences (which resembled Nancy Kerrigan's teeth . . . why do these things pop into my head!!) and it was at this point where I pretty much decided this was where we would part ways and I wished them luck.

Back on the road and feeling a little relieved I continued west.

A day or so later I'm picked up by a Navy guy. Seemed nice but as normal I always had my hand near a rather large knife in the right side pocket of my backpack . . . just in case.

Within 30 seconds the scenery is rushing by at 100 miles per hour and I find that this guy is AWOL from his Navy base in San Diego and needs to get back ASAP!!

All goes well until we're picked up by the police. He explains and I just sit there being quite but the cop is not in a good mood and tells him he will have to go to the police station for some questioning. He looks sad but hands me a huge box of K-rations as a gift when we get to a small town and I take off west again.

I can see mountains but there is no traffic and the sun is setting so I walk into the desert and pitch my tent in failing sunlight. I walk far enough so cars will not see a tent in the distance and I set up on top of a bunch of low growing ground cover type cactus.

And I freeze! WOW it got cold and every time I touched the floor of the tent I would get pricked! But I was too lazy to move!

That morning I got up, had some yummy K-rations and told myself to get rid of them at the next place (except for a few crackers and peanut butter).

I remember getting picked up by a woman when I was getting very close to the mountains. She seemed like a happy person, on her own and on her own adventure. She was driving to Alaska.

But she had this deep, throaty, laugh, that sort of sounded like the noise a dog makes just before he throws up. It was always a little disconcerting. And I also remember thinking that she wanted to have sex with me but I can not think of why I remember that and what made me think she did.

All I remember is being a little scared every time she laughed.

She invited me to go with her to Alaska but I declined. She left me off near Glacier Nat'l Park and it was there where my journey west stopped. This was the most beautiful place I had ever seen and I decided I was going to stay there a while.

Join me Monday - when I meet up with a bear (I think it wanted to have sex with me . . . or eat me).

Rod

  3. You need to write your own comic books, Rod. Your tales from the way far out side!! LOL
LOVE the pics today!!! I can see why Mann would select JD for the part (besides being a FANTASTIC actor and a box office draw). The resemblance is uncanny!!
    See you tomorrow AM.

  17. I'm sure those of you who have read The Onion are familiar with The A.V. Club. Here's a little blog they have about Watchmen.

Also, I recently read a graphic novel called Pride of Baghdad, and would recommend it to anyone who is concerned about the war in Iraq (which I'm sure is everyone). It's a short read but very thought provoking.

  18. hehehe....Jenny's in trouble!! ;)

She told me it's not swollen, just sore. It might be okay. I'm sure she knows if she needs to go for x-rays. I think if it's not swollen, it might feel better tomorrow.

    Right? :p

  19. Rod, great hitchhiker story! I may not comment every day but I always stop by. You always have something funny and interesting going on here.
    LOL Osh! Ted Bundy :O

And then there's The Video! That was awesome Suz, even if it did make me cry happy tears (at work no less)! My own fault since I read the comments and watched it anyway. Very worth it. Love heart warming stories :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. POSTING LINKS!

Best way is to go to the blog - left side is a TINY URL thingy.

Enter the URL there and it'll give you a tiny URL that you can post easier.

  25. Rod didn't that guy from Capital Comics commit suicide? I think he did. All that dark fantasy can't be good for the mind, maybe that explains some of the stuff in the blog.

    Go get an xray.

  32. Suz, the two guys that raised Christian were on the Today Show
    yesterday. Awesome story!
Jenny, can you put any weight on it? If you can, and it's not too
swollen, it's probably a sprain which can be as painful as a break! But don't let it go too long!

  33. Suz--I just watched the lion video. It was sooooo beautiful. Thanks for letting us know about it.

  34. The photos of JD & JD are simply amazing. Seeing them side by side you can really see similarities.

The picture of Johnny looking towards the cornfield is one of my favorite pics from the filming.
    Thanks for posting that one.

Your hitchhiking story about the woman heading to Alaska reminds me of Flannery O'Connor's short story, A Good Man is Hard To Find.
When did you do the hitchhiking ~ in the 70s/80s?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Suz--
Thanks for the Christian video--I was bawling before it even started! (It's the music--I've never been able to listen to that song without getting an attack of the weeps!)

  38. i am going to stay away from the video if it makes you cry.

Rod, I was looking for something else and came across this flickr set
    ~ http://tinyurl.com/5d68h9

The set belongs to Andy Goodwin. He took the photo of Johnny looking towards the cornfield.

  39. I'm not going to Kurth's either. I just woke up from a nappy! :)

Yeah, I think it's a sprain. I couldn't put in weight on it at all, but it isn't swollen or anything, but it's feeling a little better now, so that's good.

Maybe my weekend isn't ruined after all :)

  40. For some reason my blog no longer works in Internet Explorer, but works fine in Mozilla and Fire Fox...

Some fancy html language I don't understand or have any idea how to fix.

  41. I did my hitchhiking in the middle 70's when I was not a big deal. Many times there would be 3 or 4 other hikers. I would just get in line.

Sometimes a car would pick up 2 or 3. Sometimes a truck driver would pick you up and families.

Even get invited to stay over night in peoples back yards.

  42. Osh ~ check this site out ~ http://drupal.org/node/128186

I googled "blogger doesn't work in internet explorer"

Rod, thanks for answering my question. it's amazing that so many would be hitchhiking at the same time. Looking forward to hearing the rest of your stories.

  43. Love the photos today Rod! I have seen them before, and I believe that the farm scene photos were taken by the goodwin family...not 100% sure though.

  44. Osh - i am having the same problem! I can't get blogger to work with internet explorer at all!

  45. Mary, I read the late night posts...and don't sell the irish so short...

so a little tech problem if you have blogger and SiteMeter installed...they are having issues and your pages will not load for anybody, not even yourself in Internet Explorer the only fix right now is to remove the Site Meter code from your blog.

However, it will work in other browsers.

sex & the hitchhiking thing = the song from the 70s Chevy Van ~ by Sammy Johns ~

I gave a girl a ride in the wagon
She crawled in and took control
She was tired as her mind was a-draggin
I said get some sleep - and dream of rock and roll

'Cause like a picture she was laying there
    Moonlight dancing off her hair
She woke up and took me by the hand
She's gonna love me in my Chevy van
    And that's alright with me

  52. Hey Rod & Char (if you're still reading):

I'm going to Billings, MT this month and want to know of possible sites to see. I already have Greasy Grass (Little Bighorn) on my list. Has to be relatively close, as there is a daytime conference I must attend. Thanks for any suggestions.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Don't know if anyone will see this, since it's Sunday evening and the original blog post is from
Friday, but with everyone talking about vacations, I just wanted to say that my dh and I just took a two day jaunt to Little Bohemia. It was a wonderful drive; two beautiful days and the scenery is so pretty! I was a bit disappointed though. The Dillinger artifacts that they usually display are on loan to the film company currently! I did get some photos of the bullet holes. And they have one of the seats from the Biograph Theater displayed right now too. I will be posting the pictures on my blog in the next day or two and will post here when I do. Osh, were the artifacts there when you visited a month or so ago?? Think we'll have to make a return trip (maybe next year after the movie is released).

    ReplyDelete
  54. Sue, what artifacts they had I posted on my blog
    Dillinger Artifacts

I'm glad you had a chance to go! We really enjoyed ourselves there...

  55. Lotus,

Yes, I am still here.....kind of a lurker but comment every once in a while....Some day we should plan a trip to Kurth's. I would really like to meet everyone even though I feel like much of an outsider. I am in Green bay for the week and Rod will be coming here on Wednesday (we are getting together with our four children and our grandbabies...one of our sons is home from Turkey for a few weeks with his wife and their 3 children). I will ask Rod for any good ideas for your trip. have you been to Montana before? It is a beautiful, beautiful place. I know you will love it!

    Char

  56. Thanks Char, I'd appreciate that greatly! I've never been to the Northwest at all before. I'll be leaving on August 18th and am looking forward to it! Say Hi to Rod for me! Hi Rod!

Have fun visiting with your grandbabies! Yea, some time we'll drive to the Kurth and spend the night somewhere, 'cause that's a long trip back.

  59. Great pictures of Little Bohemia, Osh! The items in the display case in the entry were there, but the big display case in the dining room that the Dillinger gang were in when the shooting started is now empty. They do have one of the seats from the Biograph Theater in that room now. I'll be putting the pictures that I got on my blog later today. I'll try to post a link.
