Seem Columbus was forgotten about. I was HOPING that since it was Columbus that kicked off the whole shebang** we would at least get special mention or at least a precipitation ribbon. But nay! No one cares about little Columbus.

Here is the news

"Public Enemies" returns to the scene of the crime for screenings and parties across Wisconsin on June 30.

The events, to be held the day before the film opens nationwide, were announced by Scott Robbe, executive director of Film Wisconsin, the group that functions as the state's film commission.

"Public Enemies" stars Johnny Depp as Depression-era gangster John Dillinger, and the screening events will have a 1930s theme.

A party will be held at the Milwaukee County Historical Society Museum, 910 N. Old World 3rd St., which was one of the locations for the filming. A screening will follow at Marcus Majestic Cinema, 770 Springdale Road, Brookfield, with proceeds benefiting the museum.

A Madison screening will be held at the Marcus Point Cinema; the location of the Madison party is yet to be determined. In Oshkosh, the party will take place at Wittman Field, which was a location in the filming, and will feature cars and planes used in the film. The film will be shown on two screens at Marcus Oshkosh Cinemas, benefiting the Oshkosh Facade Program for preservation of historic areas in the city, where filming took place.

All three events also will benefit Film Wisconsin.

Film tickets will be $50 for VIP seating and $25 for general seating. Separate party tickets are required. Information on how to obtain tickets will be announced closer to the events.

Robbe would not say if cast members or director Michael Mann would attend the events.
"Watch for future announcements," he said.

WELL - laa dee freaking daa! Fifty bucks? I think I'll wait to see the movie with the common rabble. We'll hoot and holler all we want. No need sitting with the stuffies at 50 bucks a pop. I can wait a few hours and play a normal $10 (or whatever they are now).

Public Enemies Take Over the Oshkosh Public Museum This Summer

Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Bonnie and Clyde are running the streets, and public law officials are striving to reclaim order… This summer, relive the mayhem of the 1930s with the Oshkosh Public Museum’s original exhibit, The Era of Public Enemies: A Wave of Crime in a Troubled Time. The exhibit runs from Saturday, June 27 through Sunday, October 18.

Oshkosh, WI – March 26, 2009 – This summer some of the most notorious gangsters of the 1930s will take over the Oshkosh Public Museum when it opens its summer exhibit, The Era of Public Enemies: A Wave of Crime in a Troubled Time. The exhibit opens on Saturday, June 27, and runs through Sunday, October 18. The exhibit merges history and Hollywood to recreate the scene of the 1930s and transport visitors back 75 years to one of the most tumultuous economic and criminal times in America.

“The exhibit educates visitors on the elements that led to the 1933-34 crime wave and the evolution of America’s public enemies,” explains museum curator Deb Daubert. “We hope the experience enhances the enjoyment of seeing the Public Enemies movie by giving visitors a better understanding of what it is all about.”

The April 2008 filming of Universal Studios’ Public Enemies transformed downtown Oshkosh into a 1930s Midwestern town, caught in the middle of a great depression and the public enemy era. City streets were packed with thousands of visitors, and the filming had an estimated economic impact of $4 million on the community. While the glitz and stardom of Hollywood may have left Wisconsin last spring, the story of 1930s America, gangsters and crime sprees lives on at the Oshkosh Public Museum.

The Era of Public Enemies invites visitors to revisit the string of Midwest bank robberies that captivated America by experiencing the conditions and circumstances leading to the infamous crime wave and allure of gangsters. Booshwash in a snazzy 1930s nightclub, take a seat in an art deco movie theater and experience life behind bars in a dank 1930 jail cell. Learn of the rise of the FBI and structured law enforcement as the feds attempt to take down American gangsters and the booming crime wave of the 1930s. Artifacts on display include John Dillinger’s death mask, a Thompson Submachine gun and an art deco back bar from a local yacht club.

Finally, relive the transformation of Wisconsin for the 2008 filming of Public Enemies. In this community-curated section, props and images of downtown, actors, extras and set design will recreate the thrill of those few days of Hollywood in Oshkosh.

This 1930s flashback bundles together all the pressing issues and hottest fads of the 30s and returns Oshkosh, once again, to the era of public enemies.

WELL DONE!

Now before you guys get all hyper about "why did we not do that". It is pretty tough for a small town like Columbus to do things like this. Just not enough people to take charge that are not already doing things. Oshkosh is 12 times larger then Columbus so for a project that needed twenty-four people Columbus would have two.

Two people can not do the work of twenty-four.

I was out and about last night taking random building photos and took this one - Since it was sort of boring I played with it in photoshop - nothing ultra special so I won't hide THIS one from you! Looks better blown up so you can see the faux paint dabs.

sort of boring but I needed something to break up all the words.

I mention this because as I was walking around a woman and the cutest little girl walked by and we said hi and I tried not clobber the girl with my 5 foot tripod trailing behind me. I took about 5 steps and I have this thing that happens to me. A mental picture goes CLICK in my brain and I stop, turn around to ask if MAYBE I could take a photo of the two.

Well - they are now half a block away and being . . .shy??? I decide not to run towards them waving my camera screaming wait wait. What I do is stop, stair at them WILLING myself to do something, but my legs are frozen.

I walk on looking at the clouds saying to myself damn it damn it damn it - I missed a wonderful opportunity.

As luck would have it I drive on and BAM - there they are a few blocks away. Now I'm REALLY in a pickle. What am I doing what am I doing I say to myself. I stop the car and get out. Walk cautiously towards them, I have a business card in hand and I HOPE they read the blog. I introduce myself trying my hardest to not look like a serial killer but I'm failing. The little girl is frightened and the mom looks . . .well . . . concerned. They don't read the blog. damn it.

Long story short - I did manage to take some photos and the little girl was wonderful - HOWEVER - it seems people think I want to sell them something when all I want to do is take a photo and send them free photos.

Remember the sunset scene in Door County? The couple never did contact me. Perhaps she did not want her husband to see the photo, I don't know.

So I have to figure out how to approach people. Perhaps running up to them screaming "I write a blog I write a blog" is not the correct technique.

But now I have a cute photo that the mom would love of her and her little girl. I can't post it on the net as that would be . . .wrong. . . hmmmmmm.

We watched American Idol last night and afterword I went to a site where I can place wagers on stuff HOPING to put $10 on Adam. Nope - not there.

I declare Adam the Winner of American Idol. The others are not even close. Great singers yea, but they are not performers.

  3. If I have the Money I will pay the $50 but I would also have to pay money to get my boyfriend to go to the Wittman party. I will have to look at the details and see if i can talk him into it.

  5. Evan and I will probably go to the Oshkosh party, you know...that's how we roll. (and he will prolly stand in for Johnny)

Does Columbus have a Marcus Theater? That seems to be the one thing in common here, I don't know if it is a direct diss, maybe just logistics. Columbus certainly deserves recognition.

the state dept of tourism should be promoting this with all the WI locations........not the live lt like you mean....but Dillinger Days
