With Stave Sobiak gone some on the Council feel this is the time to have the City Admn take over the position because he has a working relationship (friends) with developer Michael Eisenga (Millionaire's children on BadgerCare), (Michael Eisenga's business no stranger to state investigations), (Wealthy divorced donor helped write controversial child-support bill), Eisenga is also the ONLY person delinquent for paying a revolving loan from the city for $143,000, but I digress.
They want to split the Energy Sustainability part and give it to Water and Light and the Economic Development would go to the City Admin (because he is not very busy at the moment?).
A few problems. One is that if we give Water and Light 1/2 a position, we LOSE 1/2 a position which we won't get back. Then they say The City Admin would fill in the rest with a raise. I don't think he has the time to go out and spend 20+ extra hours a week drumming up business and I have heard ZERO talk about downtown development. Their BIG push is Eisenga's COMMERCE CENTER.
The argument is that other city's of our size do not have a separate Economic Development position. Well, when I brought up the fact that our police departments budget is HUGE compared to other towns our size the two Aldermen Auxiliary Police Officers on the council said something on the order of "well, you can't compare Columbus to other towns" yet here I guess they can compare?
Columbus needs someone, from the city, who wants to make $50,000 full time or less part time to go out and be a salesman for the ENTIRE city, not just the commerce center and we don't want to hire outside contractors (which was suggested).
It's a tough little problem but just getting rid of the Economic Development position is irresponsible and shows that the council does not really care about the business for the WHOLE city. We need a salesman marketing person for that position, not and administrator.
I will get off my soap box now.

The Mayor brought up an interesting thing. The house next to the library parking lot will soon go up for sale. His idea was to buy the house and rent it out for a while. The library NEEDS to expand and if we had that house we could raise it (not mentioned in council), build an addition to the library and use that land for parking lot.
Having a large library would be a huge economic boost to the downtown. Studies have shown that there are significant economic benefits throughout the city with good libraries. I think it's an idea that needs to be explored. Making Cities Stronger - Public Library Contribution
HOWEVER - this is the house that would be torn down for a parking lot.
Talk about mixed emotions. I don't know the history of the house.
The big question is what is the selling price.

HELL - this was on a test.
Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?
Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using
Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some
variant.
One student, however, wrote the following:
First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing
in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and
the rate at which they are leaving, which is unlikely. I think that we can
safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no
souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the
different religions that exist in the world today.
Most of these religions state that if you are not a
member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of
these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we
can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are,
we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we
look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states
that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the
volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.
This gives two possibilities:
1. If Hell is expanding at a
slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and
pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2. If Hell is expanding at
a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and
pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.
So which is it?
If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during
my Freshman year that, 'It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,'
and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number
two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already
frozen over.
The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has
frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is
therefore, extinct........leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of
a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting 'Oh my
God.'

Brewers - according to Baseball Prospectus the 2013 Milwaukee Brewers had the worst combination of 1st basement IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL (at least to 1900).
Using the WAR (Wins Above Replacement) metric which combines all sorts of statistics no team has ever had a worse 1st base. Betancourt, Gonzalez, Francisco were pathetic. Doug Caldwell of Caldwell Lumber (Unsurpassed Quality, Award Winning Service, Affordable Prices) would have been a step up in quality and I'm not sure he played baseball. So when people laugh that the Brewers sign Overbay to a contract (he's like 60 isn't he?) don't laugh!
OH - Warren Buffett will give anybody ONE BILLION DOLLARS if you can pick all 63 games of the NCAA tournament correct. They would be 25 million a year for your life. Of course there are
9,223,372,036,854,775,808 different ways to pick but THERE IS A CHANCE!!!

Rod,
ReplyDeleteYour statements regarding Mike Eisenga the “local developer” are all hype and no
facts. What tax breaks? What incentives? The TIFF was there before he got involved.
The City insisted on renegotiating the original terms, and he paid $375,000.00 for the
increment. That doesn’t sound like a “gift” to me. This land sat empty for 15 years and
you couldn’t give it away. So what is the problem? Be specific!
Also just so you are aware Badger Care Plus and HIRSP is the state pool available for
those not able to get private insurance. HIRSP is for adults but their children need to
be in Badger Care Plus, as HIRSP doesn’t take kids. The folks on these programs pay
premiums typically above market. So in essence those on this are subsidizing those who
are getting it for free through the other Badgercare program. On another note take a look
at any reasonably sized multi-state company and you will find they have had a run in or
two with some type of regulatory issue. As long as the matters are resolved and corrected
most reasonably minded people move on. I don’t see anything to suggest something
other then that here. Do you? If so what?
You may want to consider doing your homework on issues before you hurl false
accusations and innuendos. Not only do they make a bad impression on you, they
approach the fine line of slander. If you don’t change your ways your political career
will most likely be very short lived, (assuming it ever gets off the ground to begin with
that is).
