Did you just titivate me?

.
The word of the day is titivate. So while I'm staring at the word trying to say it without sounding porno-ish I had to figure out what it meant which is "To make oneself smart or spruce."

Well - as we all know I have tried desperately to make myself smart but it only catches on from time to time but I KNOW I have never tried to make myself . . . spruce.

So then I look up examples of how the word is used.

"You look beautiful," and then adds, "So stop titivating yourself." hmmmm , that sounds rather doesn't it.

"Chaplin is titivating in a hotel room, the cloth on his dressing table rides up and down".

WHAT?

"ready to dart forward and titivate Debbie's hair" Oh my. Poor Debbie.

So I'm not so sure I'm going to walk around today using that word. I'm uninspired!

HEY - who wants to see the moon blow up. If you have the NASA Channel they will broadcast the explosion live at about 6:30AM central time tomorrow. That's right, NASA is bombing the moon to see what happens. THEN they will fly a space craft that has cameras INTO the bombed out area and crash it in the hole!! TOO COOL!!!!

Of course I suppose the moon could crack and break up and fall into the earth which would not be so cool and would make for an awkward weekend with falling globs of moon to dodge, but, it would be something different for sure.

---------------------------------------

The Columbus Walk of Fame.

OK - We could have STARS for Johnny Depp and Marion Cotillard and it was suggested we have James T. Lewis the 9th Governor of Wisconsin but I'm not sure James will have the draw that JD has. Who else can we have. What other celebrities have made an impact on Columbus! I know I know, probably to many to list but we must start somewhere.
-----------------------------------------

Finally getting caught up on recorded TV. StarGate Universe is looking really good but I'm still waiting for Lou Diamond Phillips to make a real appearance. I like the premise and will stick with the show.

Oh - the premise. They gang is stuck on an ancient Spacecraft which is on auto pilot and looks for other Star Gates. When the ship finds one it stops for 12 hours. The gang explores the new location and needs to return or the ship leaves.

Another VERY good show is Flash Forward. This might be my favorite non-reality, non-comedy show of the year! Really - if you like smart shows check it out. What does it all mean. We have already had the future?
------------------------------

Yesterday was Farmers Market day outside my building and I was walking around with my camera taking non-flash photos (flash seems to be malfunctioning since the camera was repaired) and I came across some mums that were really pretty.

I'm looking at them and telling myself that everyone in the world has taken photos of mums but there was one group that just seemed prettier then the rest. They were calling to me.

Today in history the Chicago fire started (1871). This fire burned 4 square miles and killed 200 to 300 people. But what it did was sort of like clearing the land for new growth and "spurred great economic development and population growth". Within 9 years the city had grown from 320,000 to 500,00 and by 1893 1.5 million people lived in Chicago.

In 1997, the Chicago City Council exonerated Mrs. O'Leary and her cow. She turned into a recluse after the fire, and died in 1895. Iit seems Mrs. O'Leary and her cow was a made up story for the Chicago Tribune. Michael Ahern a reporter for the Trib admitted in 1893 that he had made up the story of a cow kicking over a lantern because he thought it would make colorful copy.

In the PBS documentary, Chicago: City of the Century, a descendant of O'Leary stated that she spent the rest of her life in the public eye, in which she was constantly blamed for starting the fire. Overcome with much sadness and regret, she "died heartbroken".

Many say the fire was caused by "Peg Leg" Sullivan who says he saw the fire break out. However, it would have been impossible for him to see it from where he said he was. Peg Leg's mother kept a cow in O'Leary's barn and would visit it on nights! hmmmmmmm!
See you tomorrow if the moon does not explode!

I refuse to be French!

as always - click on the photo to enlarge it for better viewing

Lots of talk on when the Public Enemies DVD is coming out (and not the Batman: Public Enemies DVD which is December 8th) . December 8th seems to be the most guessed at date with Europe a month earlier. October 26th has been getting some air play and many video stores are saying November 11th.

As yet nothing official so it's all speculation unless someone can point a news release to me.
---------------------------

Speaking of Johnny Depp and Columbus.

Columbus should have a WALK OF FAME. Yea - it would only have one star but it's a start. I can see it on the corner by Sharrow Drugs!! It would be awesome.
-------------------------

It's really too bad that the flash on my camera no longer works since I got the camera it "fixed". I rarely use a flash but when I tried it, it was . . . absent. GRRRRR

But here is a enhanced Milo photo. He loves to work on the computer when DJ's attention is somewhere else. All sorts of damage by hitting multiple buttons can be accomplished.

I was driving home yesterday in the wind and with the passing cold front the clouds were very wonderful so I took a few turns off the main highway and took some photos. Nothing totally exciting but it's Wisconsin farmland for people around the world that were wondering what Wisconsin farmland looked like in early fall.

I really like the different shades of brown the fields have this time of year.

I'm kind of flying blind here as I can not see exactly what I'm doing. This monitor only has like 2 colors and all are dark so . . . . . . I'm guessing.

While I was taking that last photo a little friend came up the road and was checking me out. After I patted him on his head and behind the ears he moved on and continued up the road. Finding my car he proceeded to pee on my wheels.

This photo I WAS going to say "I'm just playing around" but I hate it when people say that because it's a backdoor excuse in case people don't like it.

Was I just playing around? Of course I was. But if I didn't think it was worthy of posting . . . . I would not post it. I do love to experiment though!

Of course when I get home and see it on a monitor with correct color perhaps I'll delete all of these.

this really needs to be viewed larger - remember - you can press Ctrl and mouse wheel to
increase/decrees the size of photos

this makes a nice background for your computer

As for suz.

I believe we agree to disagree on Favre. However I think we agree to agree on how Thompson has drafted such a magnificent front line to protect Rogers. I see now that Mark Tauscher is talking to the Packers. I think he will be getting a larger contract now then a month ago LOL. I also have to think that the lack of pass rush on Favre Monday was not entirely the defense PLAYERS fault and I'm not in love with some of the strategy's Capers is using "in-game".

The good news is that Vikings could lose 3 of their next 4 games and I'm thinking they will go 6-6 the rest of the way . . . unless they are better then I think. I know THEY think they are basically Superbowl bound but I'm not convinced at all.

I believe it will be a dog fight (without Vick) with GB, Chi and Minn.

In 1871 the Peshtigo started consuming 2 BILLION trees and killing between 1,200 and 2,400 people. An odd fact is tomorrow, in 1871, the Great Chicago fire started. The Mayor of Chicago owned most of the trees and area that was consumed in the Peshtigo so that dude had a very bad week. Most of the buildings in Chicago were built of wood from the Peshtigo area.

The fire was so hot a fire tornado JUMPED Green Bay into Door County!

It was like NASCAR

So I'm driving to work in the rain thinking about what I was going to say on the blog. Getting my thoughts in order about last nights game and how from this point forward I would choose Aaron Rogers over the designated man crush Brett Favre.

I thought Rogers was outstanding and Brett was good.

Was it just me or did others think that Gruden and Jaworski wanted to go down on the field and make hot sweet man love to Farve.

So there I am driving and driving and listening to Within Temptation and thinking how even though the Vikings KNEW Rogers had to pass and how Aaron normally had about 1/2 second to find an open receiver and still had 386 yards and how Brett would take the hike and sit back in his rocking chair with 10 to 30 seconds to find an open receiver and how, geez - you really can not compare the two QBs if you used last nights game. . . . . when all of the cars 1/2 mile ahead of me all put on their breaks at once.

This puts a question mark above my head and I take the car off auto pilot and start to coast. I'm closing the gap to the line ahead of me rather quickly and I'm coming in hot as I start to apply the breaks.

I'm coming in WAY WAY HOT (although now under the speed limit and slowing dramatically) and apply more and more breaks when I realize the line ahead of me seems to be basically stopped. I decide I need to get in the other lane because if I REALLY hit my breaks on this wet pavement I might slide but there is a car HOTTER then I am on my left.

I let him pass and move in behind him just before I hit the car ahead of me when a car two ahead moves into the left lane and I think touches the passing car which is now sliding onto the left shoulder as he/she has to take off road evasive action.

Things are clearer now and traffic has become less tangled and I need to dodge road debris and car parts but everything seems under control and more organized but I don't want to go slower in fear of being rear ended. I'm looking in my mirror hoping to see no-one. I delicately move forward across the bridge I see a 5 smoking cars piled up on the right with two people laying in the middle of the bridge and smoking SUVs crumpled up.

WOW!! That got my adrenaline going. Who needs coffee.

I should have stopped to see if I could help but I probably would have been in the way (which is what the other 40 cars are also saying). I'm feeling guilty.

All I know is that I did a superb job of driving and my 50,000 hours of computer racing games really came in handy, again.

This was the first day that they moved the bridge construction to the southbound lane and with the rain I don't think people expected the stopped cars as they crested the hill.

Like to hear what happened on the news.
---------------------------------------------

Does anyone besides me think that Ryan Grant is the Packers Bill Hall? Have a great year, get signed to a huge contract and then go bland? What get's me is that the Packers don't even try to use other running backs.

And Aaron Kampman, can a guy look more lost in a new defensive scheme? I like the 3-4 but the Packers personal are just the wrong people for it. The DE's like Kampman need to be BIG and strong and we have small and fast (well I guess Cullen Jenkins.has never been termed small and fast LOL). They are heads up against the huge offense line. Although they are using Kampman as an outside linebacker now I guess. Who is the other DE for the front line???

Then the Outside Linebackers need to be small and fast to cover the tight ends and are there for pass coverage and we have big and strong Hawk. The middle line backers need to be BIG and strong to fill the gaps against the runs and we have small and fast Nick Barnett.

Well, it sure worked like a charm, last night didn't it.

Anybody see StarGate Universe? Great show if you are a SciFy fan.

OH - Public Enemies!!!

release date of November 2 in Europe! Not sure about the U.S. yet.

If you have a Blue-Ray player you get a TON of stuff.

The UK DVD and Blu-ray Disc will have

  • 1080P 2.40:1 Widescreen
  • English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio
  • English Audio Description
  • Latin American Spanish and Canadian French 5.1 DTS Surround
  • English SDH, Latin American Spanish and Canadian French subtitles
  • Commentary with director Michael Mann
  • Featurettes (59mins approx total)
    • Larger than Life: Adversaries
    • Michael Mann: Making Public Enemies
    • Last of the Legendary Outlaws
    • On Dillinger’s Trail: The Real Locations
    • Criminal Technology
  • BD Exclusive: Picture in Picture & Historical Interactive Timeline
DVD extras are TBC but as we know HMV are offering a 2-Disc exclusive edition it is likely that the single-disc general release will feature just the commentary while the HMV exclusive set will offer the hour of featurettes from the Blu-ray on the second disc.

The BBFC classification for Mann’s commentary lists both a theatrical and extended cut of the film. The Blu-ray packaging makes no mention of this, though as the running time difference is only 11 seconds it may be a small quirk in how the material has been passed rather than any indication of an alternate cut of the film.

And there is always Alice.
