Gus and weather

One thing we have learned in the last day is if a patient at a hospital says he wants to go home then, even though he needs 24/7 attention and can not physically stand, the hospital will discharge him even before there is any care at home at all.  You have 4 hours to get 24/7 nursing, deal with it.  Here are some names that might help you IN FIVE DAYS.

Multiple family members from around the country  . .  Furious? to say the least. When everything is moving smoothly and the night before everybody was in agreement that no way could the patiant leave the hospital so we were getting nursing homes ready and then we get a call saying the next morning  "We are leasing him in 4 hours"  - CHANGE ALL OF YOUR PLANS. . . . . . . deal with it.

Who cares if he can not even stand on his own and needs 2 people. I guess the people that will have to provide 24/7 care are on their own.

NOT, what I had hoped out of a hospital.

A representative from the USS Indianapolis took a red eye from Seattle to Chicago and then drove up from Chicago to Columbus see Mel.  I explained about the coming storms.  She said they rarely have thunderstorms in Seattle. WELL, she got a good taste Wednesday night.  She texted me from her hotel room.  "IS IT ALWAYS LIKE THIS"?

BTW - The USS Indianapolis: The Legacy Project is on Amazon Prime. It's the best documentary out there and is winning every award there is for documentary's.  The USS Indianapolis :Men of Courage is pure 100% bull shit fiction and literally one of the worst movies I have ever seen.  A movie based on a book the director never read.   HBO is still working on their project for the Indy so that is still moving forward.

Their issue is that HBO has to have a book.  There is a screen play which they have approved but there needs to be a book. So there is some world class author writing the book so HBO can use the screen play for a "Pacific" "Band of Brothers" style series.

National Geographic is still moving forward and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is set to start looking again for the Indy.  There will be a special and a magazine devoted to the Indy / / once it's found.

That tropical storm that blew through Wednesday knocking out power and knocking down more trees?  I'm beginning to think all trees are hollow.

High Wind Speed 54mph
High Rain Rate 8.60 inches per hour
Total rain 1.84 inches?

Speaking of trees - Our Autumn Blaze Maple has pretty much turned res.

So with everything else going on we have a new family member.

Yesterday we had to go pick up Gus and the little dude is awesome. Slept all the way home (hour  and a half) and once home the cats met us at the door so we had a tentative meeting.  It's been weird.

NOT what we were expecting - the plan was to introduce him slowly and let Sophie get her hissing out of the way from a distance.  WELL - everything changed.

Sophie the skittish hissy one is curious and they have actually touched noses.  Zero problem.  Iggy the laid back one is afraid?  Leery? but basically ignoring us.  The cats have disowned us but they  continue to monitor this new ANIMAL in their kingdom.

Gus just wants to be friends . . .when he is awake which is not very often.  The photo on the right seems to be what he does 20 hours a day.

We crated him last night which was not so bad.  11:30, 1:30, 3:30 and 5:30 he needed to go out out and did so with zero problems.  So far so good.  He didn't appreciate the crate but after 5 minutes of protesting he slept like a puppy.

Iggy who is 3 times his size is like a land shark.  Just circling and watching.  Any small noise from Gus and he runs.  LOL
Scaredy cat?

SO - while DJ is spending most of her waking and non-waking time away I am in charge of this little dude.  Pray for me.

Khaled Almilaji an internationally renown Syrian doctor who helped coordinate 1.4 million Syrian children get vaccinated and was studying at Brown University has given up coming back to America and decided Canada was a better place to move too (which is happening a lot with scientists).  The travel ban is making America dumber, the GOP plan.

Monday is golf/brewer game and Wednesday I'm installing a bunch of art work in Waupun in the morning so . . . . hectic and not sure when the next blog will be and who knows what else might come up in the next week.  Gus and I are living for the moment.

+++++++++++++

The next 4 days there will be a small chance for pop-up thunder storms of the summer variety. Temps will be upper 70s for 4 days and then ramping up to mid 80s for a week.

Have a great weekend

Fielding - Brewers, Blade Runner 2049.

At the golf course last week I heard a guy say that Arcia was in line for a Gold Glove at SS for the Brewers.  ummmmm - not even close.  I said that I believe Sogard and Arcia were among the best fielding SS/2B combinations in the league. But remember I said "among".  There are MUCH better combinations.

San Francisco has Crawford and Prank which I believe is the very best fielding combos.  Don't look at errors when assessing fielding. Errors are what happens when you actually reach a ball.  If you are so slow you can never GET to a ball you will never have an error.

In Strat-o-matic terms.  Fielding range is what you really want. A number 1 being "amazing" and 5 being "rock-like"  And the number of errors like "e20" means a player would commit 20 errors in 162 game.

Arcia is a 2e20  and Sogard is a 2e8  Villar is a 3e25 at 2B.  A "3" is pretty much average and a e20 would be slightly better then mediocre.

Crawford and Prank on the Giants?  1e8 and 1e12. That combo will cut down a teams ERA be about by 0.25

The rest of the Brewer infield  Shaw is 3e14 at  3B and Thames 4e9.   "5s" are a rarity. Prince Fielder was a "5".

23% of retail jobs in America are located in rural ares.  However, only 13% of e-commerce jobs are in rural's.  The bottom is falling out of manufacturing in rural areas so I think Columbus massaging  Drexil to come to our community is a huge bonus.  With 25% of American malls do to go belly up in the next 5 years (they were only loss leaders anyway, not meant to "make" money) and big box stores having issues I think this is a big deal!!

62% of Americans believe gays and lesbians should be allowed to legally marry, up from 46% in 2007.

Ron Johnson has voted with Trump 97.3% of the time. The leading Trump groupie Senator. Yet he is against Trumpcare because it does not go far enough to screw the elderly and the poor.

ALWAYS REMEMBER - it is the job of government to take care of it's citizens at all costs. I know the current oligarchy/GOP is all about saving dollars but at what cost to peoples health?  is it a government for the people? or a government for themselves.

1.2 TRILLION digital photos will be taken this year and 86% of those will be taken with your phone. Well, not YOUR phone . . someone else's phone.  Probably selfies in which the only person who cares about a selfie is you. Well, not YOU but the selfie creator.

It's like talking about your golf game or how good your fantasy teams is doing . NOBODY CARES!

Fidget spinners?  Don't buy stock in them - too late. That craze is over.  Get the Fidget spinner app for your phone. The global trend  is still there but it won't last long.  I mean - how much fun are they really.

Trumps approval rating took a small hit from 3 days ago when it surged to 39.7%. Now it's back down to 39.4% about the same that Nixon had when he resigned.

Gus, Trumpcare, Sidewalks and golf

Whole lot of things going on behind the scenes with hospice care and hospitals and bad doctors "calling it in" and so forth so I might morph into some absurd mood from time to time so just bear (bare?) with me.

***********************

I won't even get into the "controversial" sidewalk situation downtown but I drove and parked on the most controversial part (in front of The Cage) and DJ had zero issues opening and closing her car door.  Yea the 3 feet next to the curb is at a 20 degree slope.  Instead of the entire sidewalk sloping as it used too they had to make the majority of the sidewalk flat and slope the 3 feet that is near the curb.

Hopefully the people with the complaints will show up to City Council and tell the DOT how to do their jobs.  They will be in attendance at a future meeting to take questions, suggestions.  Be part of the solution and not part of the problem.

In other news Drexel Building Supply has decided, after a good number of months in meetings with council and city government, to expand to Columbus offing 40 $40K a year jobs.  Seems like a wonderful company who believe workers are their greatest asset.  They actually pay employees to read books.

They will build in the new TIF 4 area near Fromm Family foods is doubling their dog food factory and they will utilize the all of a sudden important rail hub.

So while everyone is whining about a half block of sidewalk nobody is talking about a major player in Columbus economics coming to our city.

For some of the out of towners here are some images from Friday of downtown Columbus.

James Street taken from next to Sharrows

See where the guy is cleaning?  This is the controversial part. Because of the intersection that needs to be somewhat level the street needs to ramp up a tad and level off.  The sidewalk has to be flat and then ramp down to the street at 20 degree's.  That area will have poles, street lights and trees. There will be no walking on that section anyway.

It seems nobody complains about broken sidewalks in that area downtown but brand news ones they come out of the woodwork even before it's finished.

******************

Last week and next week are big golf weeks for  me. Friday was balderdash's birthday and  as customary he golfed 36 holes (54 holes in his youth I believe).   First they played Door Creek in the morning but half of that course was flooded from rains Thursday night.

Then they drove over the The Oaks where I met up with the clan and THAT place was flooded also with rivers running over the bridges but it was golfable.  I played my best 17 holes of my life I think as I was bombing drives (for me) and connecting on a good percentage of my shots.

That 18th hole was a devil though and more course knowledge might have help. Indecision killed my game.  I was on a down slop between clubs with no area to bail out. too short I lose my ball, too long would have been MUCH better.  I was so between clubs is was crazy.

In retrospect I should have kicked the ball 50 yards closer and then used a 9i but NO!!!!!   I took a 9 and ended with a 95. sigh!

This Wednesday could be the first Wednesday night rain out in over 3 years and Monday is the 18 holes plus afternoon Brewer game.  Tee time at Naga-Waukee War Memorial Golf Course is BEFORE 7:00 which means I need to get up before 7:00 . . . MUCH before 7:00.

Naga-Waukee is a muni course and is literally one of the best Muni's I have played on and after 18 holes we rush to Milwaukee to take in the Brewers.

Noted golf course architect, Lawrence Packard, transformed 200 wooded, Kettle Moraine acres into a beautiful and challenging, irrigated, 18-hole championship golf course. The rugged terrain and breathtaking views of Pewaukee Lake make playing this course an unforgettable experience.

The GOP budget is about to kill 1 million people in sub-Saharan Africa as it defunds antiretroviral drugs for people with H.I.V.  But the GOP mantra, if it does not kill Americans who cares about people in other countries. George W Bush is not a happy x-President.

64% of people in nursing homes rely on Medicaid.  Too bad, you will be booted out of your nursing home with the new GOP Trumpcare -  lack of payment.  Remember the GOP mantra, the rich need the money more then you do but don't worry, it will trickle down eventually and you will be rich and can afford any nursing home you want . . . in the future IF it works (it has never worked in the past).

But, you are fine until AFTER the mid term elections because nothing bad happens until AFTER the elections.  What a coincidence.

OH - The Koch Brothers that run the GOP hate Trumpcare also, none of the versions

If you have not gone past the water tower lately this is what Elwood and I have accomplished so far.

Have a great cool Monday.  Sunday was the coldest day in 32 days.  It will get warmer this week with a good chance of  pop up thunderstorms almost every day.

Cheers
