Settled in at PE Base Camp. Were sitting here watching Base Camp grow - they are very sneaky as to where the "special" trucks are hiding. I think they have down this before.
A steady stream of spectators walk by with cameras, cars and more vans pull in. I wonder where they were this morning.
I appreciate you guys letting me know where you are reading this from. Brussels, Perth, South Korea, California, the mayor is amazed.
We're waiting for them to hook up the water as they informed Josh they are desperate for water.
More as I get it.

ReplyDeleteWhooHoo---base camp is taking shape! Thanks for the updated pics---everytime I check back here, you've added something new. Thanks for the great updates!
ReplyDeleteTHANKS for the great pics and info. Wish I could be there.....PLEASE keep 'em coming
ReplyDeleteGee Rod, been out all day and LOOKEE what's been going on! YEEE HAWWW
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pics. I live in Oshkosh and work right down the street (Main St.) from where they will be filming in April. Now I know what to look for!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work!
michelle - Rod Here - after talking to security I'm not going out SO early.
ReplyDeleteWhere we were tonight is the very closets we will get IF you can get to THAT point.
Not sure of other locations.
Thanks for the great pics and reports! Wonder what tomorrow will bring. Columbus won't soon forget this experience. *thumbs up*
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know, Rod. I am heading off to bed now and I'll see how at I feel when that alarm goes off at 3:30. Ha. I will check my email in the morning, feel free to send me a message to let me know what time you're heading out. My email is pbhgirl at gmail dot com. Otherwise, I'll see you up there!
ReplyDeleteI look forward every day to reading about Columbus and Public Enemies. I hope tomorrow goes well for everyone involved. Wish I could visit Columbus, but it's a long way from here in Tennessee.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ron!
Looks like an early morning for all of you---stay warm and can't wait for the reports here in California. I've enjoyed reading and seeing all the prep that's been going on in Columbus. What a lovely town and I hope you get to see some of the action.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be heading down in the next few hours to a friends house on Ludington. At least we will have a bathroom to wander back to :)
ReplyDeleteHopefully I will see some of you down there.
Good luck today everyone! Hope all is well - keep us posted on anything whenever you can!
ReplyDeleteA quick check in. Everything is blocked off for block. No view of the actual MAKING of a scene.
ReplyDeleteHave seen and gotten photo of Depp and Mann together. Depp is happy and greets old friends with hugs.
Waves at crowd and tips his hat.
Thanks for the great photos. I grew up in Columbus. I laughed when I saw the photo of the four corners redone to look like cobblestone. The garage at the house I grew up in my father built. To pave the floor of the garage he used the cobblestones from the main drag when it was repaved. What goes around, comes around.
ReplyDeleteGrinder ~ care to estimate the number of people packing the streets of your fair town? More or less than expected? And any word on filming tomorrow or Wednesday?
ReplyDeleteSo no pics from the shooting ? actually it is understandable you don't have right to take pics.
ReplyDeleteBut you say you have photos of Depp and Mann. So please, could you show them to us ? thank you.
Rod or others - at this point, how much of the movie has already been filmed elsewhere? Today is not their first day of shooting, is it? Any idea how much they've already done?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good work!
I'm home for lunch. Didn't see Depp, but am going back in hopes!! Less people than expected, I think. This is the first day of shooting on this film too. I got a few shots of the "Depp look-alike" practicing some shots with a gun while jumping onto an old car. The extras look ultra cool in their 30's garb!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the filming news this morning Rod! Johnny's genuinely nice guy! Can't wait to see your pic!
ReplyDeleteTo anonymous who asked about prior filming, to the best of my knowledge, this is THE first day of filming.
I'm writing this at noon on Monday. They're on Prairie Street getting ready for the chase scene. The security people told us they were getting ready to shoot that scene at 1:30pm TODAY. I thought that was going to be tomorrow, but lots of old cars are out there now, parked in driveways, making it look authentic. I hopefully can view some of the chase from our front porch.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy, this is awesome! Sometimes their schedule just flies out the window. Glad you may get to see some of it!
ReplyDeleteI saw Johnny Depp this morning at the corner of Water & Harrison!! Everyone was yelling as he waved out the window. Taking a lunch break right now and then heading back this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteThis is very exciting. Glad everyone is getting a chance to at least see Johnny and MM for a short bit. Please post any pics that you can. We all live vicariouly. Thanks. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteAnyone know the best spots to get a peek at the action? I'm probably going to head down there after work (5pm). How many people are out there now watching?
ReplyDeleteThe main spot is in front of City Hall/library, maybe 500 people there (a little less than I expected). Can see most of the old cars move around in front of the bank from there. The rent-a-cops are trying to push people away from most other areas. On Ludington, you can't get any closer than the Funeral Home, was up by Century 21/Fire Station earlier but they even pushed us back from there.
ReplyDeleteI have been out since 5:00 and in reality you can not see a lot of anything - I DO have photos of "action" along with HD sightings.
ReplyDeleteI was at the corner of Water@Harrison also.
Taking lunch - I don't have the software for photos here but have a bunch. Check back later tonight.
If you are coming to see them make a movie - forget it. If you are coming for the excitement of TRYING to see them make a movie - it's fun.
Much less then expected as far as the number of people- most at ONE time is 1000 but total will be 2 or 3000 - people get tired and cold.
"On Ludington, you can't get any closer than the Funeral Home"
ReplyDeleteThat seems to be the best area so far - still 2 blocks from action.
I WAS able to get in the lunch line LOL - if I wanted to!
Thanks again Rod for the updates, we can't wait to see Depp as Dillinger. Hope you got some lunch, you gotta keep up your strength!
ReplyDeleteThey had everything ready to roll on Prairie, but it appears now (1:20pm) they are revamping some stuff because people and cars are all over again. :( I might go ask the set guy hanging out in my yard what's up. I've been too shy to talk to these people. hehe
ReplyDeleteGrinder is right. It's exciting to TRY to see, but we are not getting much real action. I only want to see Johnny Depp and get even a far away pic.
you guys are all fabulous...keep it up...would love to be there today...to die for excitement!!!
ReplyDeleteSuz, the security guard at our house said it's time for lunch and they'll be back a little later to shoot more scenes.
ReplyDeleteHe also mentioned that when they are here on Thursday they will be doing interior scenes. Does anyone have more specifics on this?
I hope I'm not getting anyone in trouble, but here is what the Portage Daily Register just posted - photos of JD!

Any idea where the cast is staying?
ReplyDeleterumor has it..the sheraton..madison
ReplyDeleteVery interesting...thank you.
ReplyDeletemy daughter and i were down there twice this past week but aren't able to make it today, thanks for posts...we are both at home sick and it's been fun to see the day progress with the shoot!
ReplyDeletesarah
Hi Rod! Great job again! I haven't got much done at work today since I am trying to keep up with everything going on in WI. I am looking forward to the pictures whenever you get them posted. Like everyone else said, it's pretty exciting to following the action today even if it is by posts. Thanks again for your work and efforts!
ReplyDeleteanother JDR member
Yes ! thanks for the pic !
ReplyDeletesurprise ! Depp is clean shaven !
he looks so young like that !
I miss the facial haire but anyway...
I'm also not getting much done today because I keep checking here and the newspaper sites. I was suppose to be in Columbus today, but couldn't make it due to family obligation. I will be there later on Wednesday and on Thursday. Hopefully something will still be going on.
ReplyDeleteThe kids and I hope to get a glimpse of JD (aka Captain Jack to them), but just seeing how the town has been transformed will be cool too since the Columbus was my hangout before I had kids.
The cast is staying at the Hilton in Madison, just off the capital square.
ReplyDeleteI am so not getting ANY work done today! Thanks y'all! Those pics are fab-u-lous!
ReplyDeleteThanks thanks thanks Rod!! So jeleous!! Wish I could be there.. we sooo appreciate all that you pass on!
ReplyDeleteI've seen Johnny five times now all drive by's. Nothing REAL exciting. Glad others are keeping things going. He just got back from another scene and the groupies in from of the house are going nuts.
ReplyDeleteOne girl borrowed my cell and called her mom - ALMOST sobbing in excitement.
Funny thing just happened.
From experience I know they have a black SUV that he goes back and forth in - yet - all the groupies scream at the white vans.
Two white vans fly by and they are screaming and waving - then the black SUN drives by unnoticed with Depp in the passenger seat LOL
This is too funny Rod. Depp loves to fly under the radar whenever possible. Thanks for the latest update. Sooner or later today I HAVE to get some work done. ha
ReplyDeleteBTW - I am totally worn out.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of some sort of post shoot get together ??
Also - when the movie gets out perhaps some group thing to watch the movie.
Just thinking outloud.
I just got back from the corner of Lewis & School, saw Johnny do the car scene down Lewis St three times, he had someone stand in the camera cart on the side of the car to do the actual driving while he did the acting, haha. Got a closeup picture of Michael Mann also while they were packing up.
ReplyDeletehaha i would probably be one of the groupies! oh man that would be so awesome to see johnny depp!!! i live like 35 minutes away but i have school and there's too many people!!
ReplyDeleteGot a pic of JD and MM(?) driving (image is big). Cool shot camera of rigged car.
ReplyDeletehttp://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f45/macafied/IMG_2722.jpg
That is definitely MM, but hard to tell if that is JD.
ReplyDeleteThe photo was taken at the same place as the photo in the news link above.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see pics!!!! I am so jealous that you got to see JD!!! You are so lucky!!! I will keep checking back for updates!
ReplyDeleteYour pic has already been removed ? I can't see it.
ReplyDeleteStill there, too much traffic to photobucket i think.
ReplyDeleteMake sure you copy the whole link including the 'period'

BTW.... AWESOME coverage of the filming etc! I have been keeping an eye on this all day and have been very impressed with everyone's posting. You all would make Johnny VERY proud.
I will make sure his "people" know how respectful you all are towards him.

ReplyDeleteOK but we can't see Johnny on it.
ReplyDeleteOk, here's my pictures, that *should* be Johnny in the tan jacket and gray hat...barely can tell its him with the shaved look!

The side car on the car held MM and camera guys. Depp drove the car himself. There were no steering controls in the sidecar. Saw them doing the takes on the street. They will be filming up the block at a house. Filming in a office on the second floor and some sort of running chase through the barnish building in the back. This coming from a neighbor who talked to the owners and let them walk around in the house.
ReplyDeleteI LOVEEEE Johnny Depp don't get me wrong, but, what about the other GORGOUS actors that are in the film... Channing Tatum, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff & ohhhhh myyyy Rory Cochrane... Will any of them be their??? I wanna go, I live like 30 mins from Columbus but I'm afraid i will jsut stare at nothing like ive been pretty much reading here. AWESOME blog btw, u are amazing & what awesome ppl to be so great on updating this! Have fun all of you being apart of this fun memory!
ReplyDeleteYea, i was down there for 4 hours staring at nothing until i saw Depp and Mann. It was worth it just seeing everything though
ReplyDeleteFor any of you going to THIS page - I have a photo on a new blog.
ReplyDeleteBale is NOT coming to Columbus.
Bale will most likely be filming in Madison seeing as they will be filming FBI stuff there.
ReplyDeletety I think you're correct. Since Bale is playing Purvis, he's not really around Dillinger(Depp) in these bank robbing scenes.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! I need to sit down!!! I am soooooooooo uber excited!!!!!! I wish I could play hooky all day...but oh well....thanks for the pics!!!! Can't wait till Oshkosh...I only live a little while away so I will be playing hooky then!!!!
ReplyDeleteBase camp was great yesterday! Thank you to everyone hanging out for making it an exciting 13 hours... I feel like I am an addict, I was down there again around 7:00 this morning. I had no WooHoo's left in me though.
ReplyDelete*Annie
I agree! Base camp was great yesterday! Yeah. The WooHoo's quickly died in my throat, and my legs are sore today LOL. But it was definitely worth it!!
ReplyDeletedoes anyone know if they will still be casting in columbus on friday? i'd love to go take a look if they are!
