Political rant and Hans the Horse

You guys have put me in a tricky situation.

When I started this blog I never dreamed it would be closing in on 400 comments a day. I'm in this vague area of trying to figure out if I should fix something that ain't broke. My fear is that new people are a little intimidated and some people just do not want to wade through 400 comments to find real stuff.

DON'T GET ME WRONG! I'm not complaining. I know I could get a chat room but seriously, it would not be the same. Just like how Jenny said maybe we should go to the bowling alley instead of the Kurth. It just would not have the same appeal.

Then there is the internet addiction thing. I know all about internet addiction. I was addicted to winning at poker once and stopped playing for a year when I realized I was spending all my time at the computer, I was winning money but the world was passing me by.

Be Careful.
-----------------------------------------
I was talking to someone in California and it is our feeling that PE is perhaps a week to two weeks behind schedule. Christian Bale's next movie has started filming in Albuquerque without him and he has missed some promo stuff for Batman. Rumor has it that MM was given an ultimatum to finish CB his stuff by the end of this week.

Milwaukee - if Greencastle interiors have not been shot yet Milwaukee has a chance. Also the Dog track sequence . . . .why go all the way to Miami?????
------------------------------------------
Clever Hans the Horse. a true story

In the late 1800's Wilhelm Von Osten was riding his horse and mulling over scientific stuff in his brain. He was into phrenology, the now discredited theory that a persons intelligence, character, and personality can be derived based of the shape of his or her head.

But he had other thoughts. He was interested in animals and how smart they were. He started testing cats, a bear and his horse in the skills of numbers. The cat did not care (surprise) the bear just got angry but the horse was different.

Wilhelm taught the horse to tap his hoof 3 times when he wrote the number 3 on a black board. In fact the horse could go all the way to 10 and repeat this many many times.

Then he started doing simple addition and subtraction and after a while the horse was able to give the correct answer. In fact it got to a point where his horse could do fractions and basic square roots.

He started showing the horse off and the horse kept learning more and more. "If the first day of the month is a Wednesday," Von Osten would ask Hans, who had learned to respond to verbal questions, "what is the date of the following Monday?" Six hoof-taps would follow.

"What is the square root of sixteen" 4 taps would follow. Hans even learned the alphabet, 1 tap for A, 2 taps for B and so forth. He made mistakes but was 89% right.

The New York Times had an article about Hans and scientists from around the world flocked to test Hans. They tested with and without Wilhelm in the room.

Following extensive testing which finished in 1904 it was concluded that there was no trickery, Hans was for real.

Then they noticed something, when Wilhelm asked a question and was far away Hans had problems, and when Wilhelm was behind a curtain Hans rate went to 0%.

So instead of watching Hans they started watching Wilhelm or who ever was asking the question.

IT SEEMS that Hans could tell stress levels and would tap his foot until he noticed that the stress had passed. Even when the questioner KNEW this was what Hans was watching and would try to trick Hans. Hans was perfect. This proved that while Hans was not the math genius we thought, he was pretty smart in ways we could not see. He could tell exactly when stress left a human through body language that no one else could see. Hans was smart in other ways.

Hans and Wilhelm continued to tour Europe and lived a happy life.

Hans would have been a GREAT poker player.
===============================================
A few random political rants (I must speak - been holding it in).

Every Monday for the past five years I have walked out of my building for lunch and been assaulted with protesters waving signs at cars with slogans such as "HONK FOR PEACE" and other like sayings.

And I stand there on the corner as cars slow down and BLAST their horns and every Monday I start lunch a little pissed off.

COME ON PEOPLE. What good are you actually doing, what if I don't honk, does that mean I'm pro war? You get cars that just tap their horns and you get some that BLAST FOR FIVE SECONDS showing they are REALLY for peace. I'm all for peace but honking seems like an aggressive thing to do.

A while ago Madison had a election and on the ballot you could vote to impeach Bush.

WELL - I DIDN'T KNOW WE HAD THAT CHOICE!! How many hours and wasted ink did that one use up???

Then I'm watching the meetings this weekend concerning Florida and Michigan voting. Who allowed cheering sections. Why not hold it in a stadium and charge tickets. People cheering and booing. So much for a dignified discussion.

Dignified was not a word for this. One elected official who was arguing to give all votes to Clinton said" Yes - I voted to have the Florida elections early and to forfeit our seats, HOWEVER, I did not know at the time it would come down to this".

WAIT A MINUTE! Is that REALLY a logical argument? Really officer, if I would have known speeding would get me arrested I would not have done it. OH OK I UNDERSTAND!!

Who elected these people and WHY would someone even SAY that. That is the 2nd bonehead blunder she committed. Vote for something without looking at the consequences and then MAKE IT YOUR ARGUMENT?

And I'm not even going to go into the woman in Michigan that threw crying hissy fits stomping their feet like children saying "But our votes did not count WAHHHHHH!!!!! Good God People!

I'm not making a case for EITHER candidate but only the people who were involved with those two States.

HOWEVER - one thing I want to express and I believe this is very important. It was said on the HBO movie Recount so I can not take credit.

The entire world is watching how American democracy works and even though both sides are extremely set in their ways. At no time wduring the entire process has there been real violence in the streets.

And that, my friends, is why love it at times, hate it at times, America is the one of the best countries in the world.

On a completely odd side note. You do know that the reason the Democrat's are in control of the Senate don't you?

Poker players. That’s right. Four weeks before the midterm elections there was a terrorist bill being passed. It was over 10,000 pages and it was being passed on a Friday night Saturday morning and both sides were in agreement on signing it.

However - near the end was a tiny little bill that was inserted just after midnight saying that it was no longer legal for banks to except money from gambling institutions, EXCEPT if it involved State Lotteries OR Horse Racing (one of the sponsor's of the bill was from a horse racing State).

The Bill passed without many people even know it was inserted. BAM - over two million Americans, over night, had hundreds of millions of dollars locked away overseas with no way to get their money.

Angry? Do you think?

So now we have mid-term elections where MOST people ignore and the Republicans are pretty confident of keeping control of things. Except . . . . they pissed off a LOT of poker players that normally would not vote. I'm building a house and I have $7000 I can get too because it is locked away on the Isle of Man in England.

These players are not concerned with the war or the economy or heath care. They are concerned with their livelihood and their past time. I was one of them. In States that were close all of a sudden record numbers, BY SURPRISE, were having turnouts and all voting Democrat.

I am proud to say that not one politician that was a sponsor of that bill retained his office and all close races were won by Democrats.

ENOUGH

On this day in history Miracle on 34th Street Premiered!! Yea - weird.

It seemed that the studio head thought most people would view the movie in the summer. So as they promoted it they kept the fact that it was a Christmas movie a secret. I guess you can do that as long as there was no Miracle on 34th Street Columbus blog.

Flower photo - Catmint behind Salvia in the Mailbox Garden.

And another thing. Did you guys read that news paper article yesterday? The first senetnce was too funny.

"In this beautiful little city of handsome family homes and old people. . . " and that is how a lot of people still think of Columbus!

Here is the house the Governor lived in

OK - feeling a little poorly! Later

  1. Good Morning Rod! I've never been the first one to post..ahhh. Great info on the blog today! I have seen that pic of the governors house somewhere, but I can't remember where.

About the tricky situation....sorry about that. I never thought there would be so many posts LOL. Met some fun people last night, and loved yesterday's blog.

Gotta go to work for a bit. See you all later.

  2. Grinder,
    - I hope PE sticks around in WI for the dog track sequence...makes more sense to do it here...the track is practically in their back yard.

-Hans the Horse...maybe that's where the saying "horse sense" comes from? Thanks for sharing that story.

-Political rants...well that's a good subject. (steps up on soapbox) I think America has become so apathetic it's crazy. I'm so glad we have shows like the Daily Show and The Colbert Report to help America laugh, and at the same time point out the stupidity that surrounds us. Thank God there are people out there that really care about the US and actually put themselves out there-pushing for change. We all need to wake up and stop thinking that someone else will make that stand. (gets off soapbox)

-Yes, I noticed the first sentence of yesterday's news article...but I didn't want to tease anyone about Columbus being filled with "old people." (self-restraint!)

-Your first topic...well, yes, we did get carried away...sorry Dad, I'll get off the computer and clean my room now. (just kidding)

Have a great day Grinder!!! And the rest of you...the same.

    -Sir Jack

  3. maybe all the pirate talk and whatnot can move over to Minxies blog? I'm just speaking for myself, but I get a little lost in all of that and don't tend to post much. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy good bantering, but it is hard to go through all the posts to find the ones that are of interest to PE and Columbus and who will be at Kurths and whatnot.

  4. Newsflash! We're having cheese curds at work today for National Cheese Day! I never knew there was such a thing, but I'll take it and all it's sqeekiness. : )

  5. Rod,
I thought that Dillinger & crew vacationed in Florida Christmas 1933 to let things cool down and have fun with Billy? Did I miss the Dog Track thing? I figured it was the perfect opportunity for Johnny to take off his shirt for his adoring fans. I am guessing the lady’s will be also skin clad……..

  8. I don't talk politics, so no comments there, but Hans the horse intrigues me. I've always had problems with horses, and I've always believed it's because they know I'm scared of them. This sets it in stone. :p Cool info!

The huge amount of comments is daunting. I'm not complaining either, but I do see your point about it putting some people off. I post regularly, but when there's 230 more comments since I left for work, I do read through them but seldom am able to put together a comment of my own afterwards. :p

    Carry on, you fools! :D

That house is beautiful. Where is it again?

Interesting movie news too, Rod. Thanks!

(PS-I have an interview tomorrow...need all prayers, karma, good thoughts, and happy dances to land this perfect job)!

  11. Darn, you people! I read the posts starting after I quit last night, read for my 15 minute break, and still did not finish!

Sorry, Rod, I'll try to control myself in the future! (fingers crossed behind my back) Look at it this way, you still have an awesome place and we love ya for it!

  12. Hi! I've been reading this blog every day and am quite addicted, I must say! I've been very scared (one of the shy type mentioned) to post anything as I'm not sure I can fit in to the conversations and relationships that have grown. I've wrote a couple of little things with no response. I'm scared :( But I do like cheese curds and kitehs.
    *tilts head and bats eyelashes*

But I did want to say to Tami that I'm sorry about your father! I'm from P-ville. And with regards to bat poop - been there, done that and I'm still alive so I will offer my ideas of what we did...wear a dust mask and vaccuum up with a shop vac and dump out with dust mask still on. Then spray area it was with something like a lysol disinfectent - guano stinks and this helps plus they won't return due to their scent. We had over 50 bats living in attic when we moved in and they have not been back since we did this nor can you smell. Another option, of course, call a professional! :) I hate bats. They swoop at my head outside. Icky.

Happy Birthday & Anniversary to everyone in June!

Okay, I did it...I wrote something more than one sentance. Whew!

  13. Hi girl!

I'm so glad you finally posted. I too feel a little out in left field sometimes, but I post a little anyway. : )

Thanks so much for the tips. I will print them off. Where can you get those guano sticks? Never heard of them. I spent my early years in dads house and there were always bats swooping at our heads. I hated that! We'd run to the neighbors house (my aunt and uncle) all crouched over because we were so afraid of them getting in our hair. They don't seem to be as bad there anymore, but they left their mark.

I'd be willing to bet you're familiar with my family since alot of them still live around there. My brother wants to set up a half barrel at the Caddy Shack when the Estate is taken care of. My dad hung out there alot - especially when it was still called the Long Branch.

  14. I posted this near the bottom of yesterday's comments. So I thought I'd post it again. Osh suggested I bring napkins and cookies since she is bringing forks and plates too. I can bring napkins; is someone else planning on bringing ice cream?? If not, I can bring that as well.

"Is someone bringing plates & forks to Kurth's?? How about ice cream for with the cake? I'll bring something!
VERY intriguing info,blaznfire911!! I'll be on the edge of my seat waiting for more!
It sounds like they'd better get going quickly with the improvements to the auditorium. I think we'll be needing to move the Friday night gatherings there soon!! Do you think Kurth's will deliver? Do they allow rum??"

    ReplyDelete
  15. Welcome a girl! Don't be shy...just keep on posting.

Bat crap is nasty, and from what I've been told, it's also pretty hazardous to your health. The extent of the problem seems to warrant a professional. That's just my opinion...I could be wrong.

Gotta go do some work. Have a great day. Seems we have to make our own sunshine today. :)

  16. Rod - Want to say that even though I don't post much I too love your blog. I've learned some pretty interesting stuff here. This is the only blog I read daily. Any others I've checked out are just the daily boring things of peoples lives and seemingly people in a different stage of life than I am in. Since I am from the area, but am not able to make it down there a whole lot checking in feels a bit like coming home with all the great people I've "met" here.

    ReplyDelete
  17. suz - That's why I'm thinking professional. We may only try to tackle cleaning up some of the "stuff" (outside of course) and leave the down and dirty part to the professionals.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wasn't the governors house part of the HGTV show If Walls Could Talk? I think it aired the first day PE was filming in Columbus.

    Cathy

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, bat guano is hazerdous which was why it was probably not smart to deal with ourselves, however, we tried to be as careful as possible! Yes, Suz if very right, leave to professionals! And I think you mis-read "stinks" as "sticks" - bat poop stinks! Phewy! I'm always scared of one hitting me in the side of the head when I'm outside.

And yes Tami, I'm familiar with the name (if I'm correct). I'm not sure if you were related to Arnold (uncle) and I know Harvey, Darlene...ring a bell? My mom took care of Arnold - gave meds, etc. I love the Caddy Shack! :) My friends mom owns (or did at least)...small but fun :) I graduated with her daughter.

I'm still trying to think of a "screen" name...hmmm...

p.s. I love rum too! *wink* AND mojitos - ummmm

  20. Hi A Girl - Glad you posted! I'm still thinking a proboards format would work for everyone - just look at the topics that you want to, and you can chat away, just like they do now.
Yes, the Gov's house was on HGTV. My friend taped the episode for me - we were at one time hoping to buy that house and we love it.

  21. Good morning all!

My apologies if our playfulness yesterday put anyone off... it was not intended to do so. I do enjoy this blog and all the wonderful people here.

Hans the Horse: Horses are AMAZING creatures. They are highly intuitive. Yes, Suz, they can tell when a person is fearful or stressed. They are very sensitive to changes in human emotions. Being around horses all my life, I have seen some incredible things that they can do (not just the "dog and pony show" tricks either). I have had a couple of really bad accidents with horses and they both sacrificed their own safety to prevent further harm to me. I am very passionate about horses, can you tell? :)

PE dog race track: I could only find one "active" race track in WI. Are the others closed down? If so, are the tracks still there or have the facilities been torn down? Any one know?

~A girl... so glad you posted, please keep doing it. I am now hooked on cheese curds! :)

Ok, cleaning up bat guano sounds really icky. I have heard it makes a great fertilizer... you can even buy it online!

Cathy... I love that show, "If Walls could talk".... sorry I missed that one.

Ok all.... I need to get some work done around here.... all this playing online has put me behind in chores etc.... =0P

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

  24. LOL! Yes, I did read "stinks" wrong. I'm such a dork. LOL No wonder I was so confused! I thought maybe they were some kind of fumigator or something. Definately plan on using masks and gloves just to get the stuff out so the professionals can work their magic.

You've got the name right. Arnold was my great uncle. Harvey was my grandpa. Darlene is my aunt. Since she's an EMT she would help dad out once in awhile - checking his vitals when he wasn't feeling well, changing bandages after surgeries, etc. She and my uncle were godsends since I don't live close enough to do that stuff myself. In fact they are the ones who found him. Dad had called her the day before because he wasn't feeling good so she went over and then back the next day to check on him. Thank God. I've always been so worried noone would know for days when it was his time. Enough of the gorry details. At least he's not suffering anymore.

I was just down on Sunday (in addition to all the other days in the past week) for a party for dad's oldest sister June. She turns 80 today. The whole family showed up. We had a great time. My Uncle Newt (Darlene's husband) is such a hoot!

  26. This is a fun blog, and it's so nice to see a community growing around the original PE happenings. I've learned so much stuff about Wisconsin! I even refrained from telling you cheese fans off about calling your cheese 'cheddar'. Living about 15 miles from the real Cheddar, it's a pain to see the word used for non-local cheese. But at least you don't capitalise the name.

We don't eat fresh curds of Cheddar cheese - should I tell the dairy to start selling them?!

We will take good care of your money in the Isle of Man, Rod. Why not come over and get your cash and spend it on a nice British holiday? It's damp and windy, you would feel right at home.

  28. Super small world! I just talked to my mom and she knows June well. She thanked me for letting her know and would send a note of her condolences. She asked if there was a visititation but it appeared to be private - is that correct? My mom use to work for Pville PD...Betty. Darlene took good care of me after car accident :) I'm SO sorry again!

I did see the recipes ~minxie~! However I didn't copy like a dumby...can you post again?

I'm coming out of my shell slowly ;) And I am sweet like honey, I promise! I think I seen some of you in Columbus... Streetwiser and Osh I'm pretty sure :) I talked to Elizabeth a lot - sweet girl! And Jenny, I think too...now I am a mystery :) But not as good as Sir Jack - I love him. Cracks me up! You ALL do! Love you guys! xoxoxo

Dells had/has a dog track behind Tanger mall - closed now and may be ripped down...not sure - didn't look behind the mall while on my shopping exercision a couple of days ago.

I could go for a mojito right now myself AND cheese curds. Soon enough. But happy hour after work should do my quite well I imagine :)

  30. There is a race track about 45 minutes from my house. I think it is the Dairyland race track. Not sure. It is still open, and they have dog races a few times a week. I don't agree with the races, but it might be a spot for MM to try out.

Again Rod....sorry for all the posts last night. Guess we got carried away. Wasn't intended to deter anyone from posting. Sorry.

If the Kurth is going to be too full....I guess I could back out of it. I would love to go, but don't want to overfill the place. Just thought it would be fun to meet everyone I have been talking to.

Honey - Thanks for posting. It's always fun to talk to new people.

Ms Wonderland - Are you from England? I am too, although I have lived in the states for about 11 years...so my accent has been fading quite fast :(

  32. I was thinking what a small world it is too. Who'd a thunk it that we'd meet on the internet of all places.

Yes, the services were private. Due to his burns from his childhood and more recently his disfigurement from the cancer he didn't want anyone looking at him. That was always a huge thing with him. We respected his wishes. We had him cremated per his wishe. We did hold a small ceremony at the cemetary for immediate family, but that was it. He is sitting at my house in his box wearing his favorite hat until we can spread his ashes according to his wishes. :)

Someone over the weekend mentioned a Betty it seems like. Can't remember why though. I remember a Betty, but I don't remember if she worked or not. Does she live across from the boat dock on the edge of town and her last name begin with a "P" by chance?

  37. Aww thanks Tami! He is a great dog! I have 7 so it's hard to say no to any of them.

I would have thought all the race tracks would have closed down to, but they have not. Since I love all animals, and I see what happens to "retired" greyhounds....I just hate the fact that these tracks are still allowed to operate. When the last track shut down in WI, they had to find homes for over 200 Greyhounds. I am sad to say that so many of them were in such poor condition that they had to be put down. I don't know everything that goes on in the dog racing circuit, but from what I have seen...I just hate it.

Osh and Robbi - I will still come, as long as it is ok LOL.

  44. Vicky - cute doggies! I love it!
I scrolled down and seen your Columbus pictures...I was in one, funny. Can't hardly see me though, I just knew I was there ;) Nice pics!

My sob story, I was the foolish one that when Johnny got to me I stood and stared at him, he stared at me as if he was waiting for my request and then a teenager came in from the back, took a picture with him and then Jerry moved him on. I was devestated! So sad! I sat there and waited for 10 hours by myself and I could have said, "Sir, I would like a picture with you and hug? Savy?" j/k :) but no, I stood there and stared at him is all. My dream, gone. BUT he did hold my hand while standing there staring and while taking picture with teenage girl. I actually cried on my way home. How pathetic but I was overly tired I guess. I still regret it with all my life. I'm emotional like that. I hope they come back. Maybe I'll have one more chance. I will have to stand by someone with experience and that can take picture for me :) I did get good pics and had pic taken with Stephen Dorff and John Michael Bolger :) So sweet! Sorry... getting my feelings out. I'm in NO way complaining just mad at myself and sad. It was my once chance in a lifetime. *deep breath in. deep breath out*

I could only find 3 dog tracks in WI:

Dairyland Greyhound Track (which appears to be the only "active" track
Geneva Lakes Greyhound Park ( cant find any info on this one)
Wisconsin Wells Greyhound Pak (which I think is still there, just not active)

Vicky, I have a friend who adopted a "retired" greyhound, she is a love of a dog... but she had a sad life on the track.

I told everyone at the time that I was not "star struck", but now I look back at it...I guess I was. LOL

With PE filming so far behind...maybe there is a good chance that MM will choose to come back to Columbus for some "quieter" filming. Who knows. I think it would be much nicer to film in a smaller town with a cast array of history. Chocago just seems way too busy all the time, with a lot of drunk or disorderly fans about. But this is just my experience from what I have heard over the past few weeks.

  47. Sorry for my bad spelling on the last post.

Minxie - Yes. The dairyland race track is the one closet to my house. I have never been, and will never go. Greyhounds are wonderful dogs! I'm glad your friends adopted one.

  48. Honey.... even with my lack of shyness, I am not sure I would be able to get any words out of my mouth with Johnny standing in front of me. :)
If you are interested in sharing your pics with us, I would love to see them. You can always load them to the DeppHugs photobucket account.
I think JMB is a local favorite with this blog too....

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh yeah...Honey...I loaded my pics into DeppHugs...you can look there too if you want to see if you are in any of them.

  50. Keep in touch if you here they are coming back - I'm sure news will break here :) I would like to make the attempt again. Would be nice to know some people this time around if it happens. It got pretty lonely out there. In the picture you have of the people waiting at the gate I am the third one in from the bottom of the pic :) All you see is my blonde head. Looks like I have a headband on from a shadow.

I thought about it and I sat there since before Beaver Dam was completely done (light out and ate lunch while waiting)I moved twice for bathroom and drink...I sat there like 12+ hours...good grief! That is a little nuts looking back but worth it :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. LOL Tami - it does look like you have a head band on!

I don't know if I have any more pics of you and JD. I moved from that spot after it started raining. Most of my pics are from the other end of the gate by the porta potties LOL

    vicky

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oops.... I meant Honey not Tami! Sorry.

This is what happens after they send you home from work bc your limping! I dropped my hair dryer on my toe this Am, and it hurts really bad. Thought I broke it at one point. Oh well....off to get a hair cut.

    See you guys later.

  53. Many of my pictures don't fall into the DeppHugs catagory...what is the best photo dump site? Is Photobucket the best? Or is there another?

  55. Minxie -

The Wisconsin Dells Dog Track is now Tangier Outlet mall.. nothing of the track remains.

  56. Hi all,
Been AWOL for a while, and should be writing exams, but have to post.

Ironically, I am heading to the Lake Geneva dog tracks (sorry, Blaznfire) on Friday night with my colleages...(I know, I'll be missing Kurths...) However, I'll do my darndest PE investigation work...since I'm a professional information gatherer...is that the right term, Osh??

Also, funny thing shopping yesterday...went past curds, then smiled, stopped and picked some up...See, Rod, I even think of this blog and the wonderful people here while shopping! You are all in my head...J^P when I saw the NE, down the rum aisle...everywhere. Love it!

    ReplyDelete
  57. hahahah Peg! I bought curds today too! And yes, P.I.G...pig...lolsies

    ReplyDelete
  58. Thanks Rachel (have fun at the track) I'll take the brindle in the 3rd race! ;) (as in "take" him home).... so that means only 2 tracks? Dairyland and Geneva....

Honey, I personally like photobucket, but another one is flickr. I am sorry, I dont remember who set up the DeppHugs account, maybe they wouldnt mind you uploading your pics there?

I still have 3 bags of cheese curds... wish I had bought more of the plain ones.

Mswonderland ~ so only cheese from "Cheddar" can really be called cheddar cheese? I like it! I think I would like to live in the towns of Gouda or Brie... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Don't worry about the Kurth being too full - the more the marryer.

I think John and Lauretta Kurth are smiling and I KNOW John (nicknamed Hans) is smiling knowing the Kurth is making a lot of people happy in a CHEERS type of way.

Seriously - any "bar" strives for a CHEERS atmosphere but it takes a certain clientel to achieve it and you just can not order those people to come.

You guys are making a family very happy (and a little busy).

BTW - Everybody did get their $$ out from Overseas last summer.

ALSO - two more sets of cards came today and they look GREAT!

How about those Brewers - outscored their opponents 40-8 in the homestand!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hello Honey, formerly 'a girl' who didn't post and now does. Welcome! You do sound sweet...

Tami - glad you are getting help with the bat poop = ) so funny all the friends that have 'met' here and live near each other without knowing it!

Vicky - please don't stay away on Friday!

I'll be bringing something savory to balance all the sweet, not sure what yet.

My apologies as well for hogging comment space. I'd be crushed if my conduct deterred anyone from enjoying their experience here.

    nite all...

  61. Another busy day at work and on my birthday too :( But my friends took me out to Buffalo Wild Wings and it was sooo nummy. I love their quesadillas. I also got free cheesecake cuz I signed up for their online club thingy.

    Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Sue - Goodluck on our job interview!

Hello to all the new posters!

  66. Hello all. Minxie, I'm glad that Blazn (can I call you that?) helped you out last night. I'm sorry I missed the fun, but I am glad I slept.

I'm not afraid to post!!!! I'm like Rod, I have to buck authority. But Rod IS authority now. :0

    ReplyDelete
  67. LOL... Jenny! Are you doing anything special for your birthday?

Nah, Rod didnt yell at us. He just shook his finger at us! =0P

Shakes~ are you out for the night?

    Lotus~ are you lurking?

  70. I lead a boring life. My birthday activities include sitting on the couch watching All My Children and playing Scrabulous on Facebook. We were gonna go out for dinner, but I'm too full from lunch, so we're gonna go out tomorrow night instead.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Happy Birthday Jenny!

Looks like I missed an entertaining night last night. It took me close to two hours to read all the posts this afternoon.

Rod - Funny you mentioned the Brewers - I missed this last night because I was cheering them on in their 7-1 win. D-backs pitcher Randy Johnson received a standing ovation when he came out of the game in the 6th. Glad I got to see him pitch.

  73. Jenny - I'm waiting for 7:00 to watch AMC on Soapnet. My nightly ritual when I'm home. Only got to see the first 15 minutes of it yesterday.

    Cathy

    ReplyDelete
  74. Jenny... sounds like a nice relaxing b-day! I wish you a happy one too!
Can you fill me in on the tear jerker from AMC the other day? Please?! I havent watched it in a long time, but am still pretty familiar with the story line...

Cathy~ you read them all quicker than we wrote them.... LOL

  75. Minxie - Tad finally found his daughter Kate that he had with Dixie. He's been looking for her for 5 years! Finally he has his Kate!

  76. After the discussions about cheese curds, I had to get some at the grocery store this weekend. It was a great snack this afternoon. I like the bag with the mix of the two tone chedder curds.

When every my co-workers from our other offices come to Madison, we always find a restaurant that has fried cheese curds for them to try - to get a Wisconsin experience.

Cathy~ THANKS for the soapnet reminder! I totally forgot about that! :)

Lotus~ She is a doll~your default pic is so precious!!!

I get to upload some music for my DD tonight... after I approve it first! :)

    "OBAMA MOMMA"

    ReplyDelete
  83. Rod, the problem with a chatroom is that us newbies (I'm one) who never read a blog before have no idea how to use it. My personal opinion, though I know others may not agree.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Minxie, I forgot to tell you she is 10 1/2 months.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Ok - I'm a newbie. I went to the website, but once I'm there, where do I go? Do I need to create a profile?

Could you give us newbies some instructions?

    Cathy

    ReplyDelete
  86. Cathy, I did the SAME thing! Can't teach an old do new tricks. In my case, you can't teach me anything. :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Ok.... once you are at the site... on the left side will be a list of the rooms
find the PE columbus room.... double click on it.... then a little screen comes up for the pass word

    ReplyDelete
  88. Hi guys!

I just went to the "chat room". I really don't need that stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Not sure about that link, Rod. It takes me to a fairly "sexy" chat room with no option to join a different one.

    :o

    What'd you do? :p

    ReplyDelete
  90. Lotus - did you also get to the page where you can chat with "sexy singles"?

Can you recommend a good restaurant in Wausau? I'll be staying near the outlet mall in two weeks for a class and will need to get out for about an hour after class each night before studying. I'm somewhat familiar with the area - I grew up in Marshfield and did some of my student teaching at Wausau West.

    Cathy

    ReplyDelete
  91. I had the same prob Suz, and it locked up my puter!

    ReplyDelete
  92. eh, the chat room and Scrabulous can't run at the same time on my puter.

I guess we just take over Rod's blog.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I am a little concerned about the number of people coming to Kurth's Friday. I'm not trying to get anyone to NOT COME. Just be ready for what's there. It's a "little" space and I may have 10 people with me when I come, We'll be happy standing in the parking lot having a chance to meet you guys. I might even have to take them home to have a beer. John & Rhetta are GREAT people and I don't want them to be uncomfortable because of us. Come, but be prepared for all the problems that come with large crowds in small places.

    ReplyDelete
  94. do I need to make more than 2 cakes?????

    ReplyDelete
  95. Has anyone talked to John and Retta? Do they know there will be alot of people there?

    ReplyDelete
  96. *waves* Hi Who's!!!

The chat room can be a little hard for the computer challenged.... it moves too fast for most people to keep up with....

    ReplyDelete
  97. It's ironic but I'm in the Chicago suburbs and the I'm hoping the filming moves up to you guys Wisconsin! With school out for the summer I'd love to drive up there. All you guys seem so nice and I know we would all have a great time! I think the smaller town setting would make all the filming seem much more personal as well.

Happy Birthday Jenny! I hope you have a good one!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Cathy, what kind of food do you like and how much do you want to spend? And, yes, I did see the sexy singles page. I thought about staying, but I'm not signle. Ha! I'm too sexy for that room, too sexy for that room...

    ReplyDelete
  99. The Chat room did not work for me..
I think I found it and when I went to put the password in ,that is when it would not work..??????

I don't know about that one...

I think Kurth's will be Ok..
If Standing is what we have to do then that is fine with me...
I think it would be a great opportunity for us to meet and put a face to the writting.
We will have the most respect for the owners,so they do not feel over whelmed.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I looked for Johnny on the left the first time. Obviously not there. After minxie's infor I looked for PE Columbus, didn't find that either!

    ReplyDelete
  101. I couldn't find the chat room either.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Lotus - My work allowance for dinner is $25 for the meal, but I don't usually spend that much. I like pretty much anything and I have heard about some a great Italian restaurant and a steak place. I can't ever remember the restaurant names.

I am familiar with the Mine Co and 25/10. I think my hotel has the Green Mill. I just don't want to do the nice chains I can do elsewhere when there are good local restaurants. I just haven't lived in Cent Wisc in 7 years and I forget about some of the places.

For me, it's usually I'm too sexy for my cat. She likes to sit in my lap when I'm on the computer or lay on my chest/shoulder and look out the window behind me.

    Cathy

    ReplyDelete
  103. Yeah... that chat room will need some more basic info provided.... I think Shake is looking into to.... havent heard back from her

    ReplyDelete
  104. Isn't there some special code you can put it to make a chat room right on your website.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Sorry Minxie - I gave up. I did get to the room, but was unable to register and pick a name. It said that that module is not available and has to be enabled by the room monitor. Evidently it's an option, but one that isn't enabled for us as of now.

I'm running off, working on a project in the other room...

    I may check back later = )

    ReplyDelete
  106. Jenny, you may be right as well, I'll try to look into it, but probably not tonight.

    Happy Birthday, Chica!

    ReplyDelete
  107. Cathy, my first suggestion would be to go to website www.wausautogo.com Not that you want to order through them, but you can see some local menues. Check out KOBE; great food & close. It's in front of the Shopko plaza in Rothschild.

Italian = Carmelo's in Rib Mtn. and Iozzo's in Weston. I've never been to either of these, but I hear Iozzo's is very good. Texas Road House has opened in Rib Mtn., people love it, but it's a chain.

Let me think about it. Maybe I'll come up with more.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Marcella and I are chatting away in the chat room.... :)

    ReplyDelete
  109. Lotus - THANKS! Carmelo's is the one that I can never remember, but I think Lozzo's will be closer. I know right where the Shopko is in Rothschild.

Jenny - you have my HTML books- create one as a project LOL.

I agree with who'sinmybasement about Kurth but I feel that this group is adult enough. Of course we can always bribe with cake and ice cream :-)

I've been wanting to talk to John & Rhetta but I keep putting it off.

Now I must work on a storm bubble for Friday - it's going to be an interesting few days coming up weatherwise.

OPPRESSIVE and STORMY is one word.

  120. Honey, I have regrets from the filming too! I was in Columbus on the last day of filming. I stayed until 12:30 A.M.; but had to be up for work at 4, and since JD had done a meet & greet the night before and this night was a night shoot, I finally decided that he wouldn't come out again after they finished. The friend I had been with wrote to me two days later telling me that he HAD come out and she sent her picture with him!
I'm still kicking myself; but if we all had a crystal ball we would know exactly where and when to be watching for him. We both came THIS close..............

    ReplyDelete
  121. Suz & Honey -

I did the same thing that night. I stood back and watched as JD greeted all kids in front of me.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Osh,
That is way to funny that you posted this board...
I was just going to suggest it!
I am on 2 of them....

    If Rod Ok's it.....
Are you going to be in charge or Rod?

    ~robbi

    ReplyDelete
  125. Hey Grinder, I don't have 10 friends...I have over 10 daughters who ...sometimes...live in my basement. especially if JD happens to be in town.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Grinder,
You should watch a program called
"Hacking Democracy" it's on HBO = on demand under specials. It's a real eye opener! Makes you wonder what else is going on!

  134. Hey Moviestarwife!

Just wanted to say that I LOVED your blog!

Took a look at it last night. You are leading such an adventurous life right now!

    vicky

    ReplyDelete
  135. Blazn, thanks for reading my blog. I hope to update it again tomorrow.

Actually--HE is leading the adventurous life, me, not so much. I only was at the set once. In Beaver Dam, along with the rest of the crowd. I saw filming and JD, but there was no meet and greet because they had to get to Columbus for the night shoot. Boo Hoo. Hoping they come back.

That's o.k. I have been having a blast teasing him and love hearing about things on the set. I have a hard time getting information from him though. Some things he won't even tell me. Maybe we can loosen his lips at the Kurth. We will be there if we get a babysitter.

Really going to bed now. Goodnight!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  145. speaking as one of the ten kids, yes we know JD won't be making an appearance. not all of us will be showing up either, only about half of us, and some of the actual parents. it's one of the "daughters" birthday today, so we wanted to join in on the party too and finally meet all of you.
