Tasteless in Columbus

I'm sitting here with no taste buds and no smell buds and eating my oatmeal. YUMMO!! Talk about a wonderful event!! I feel better, STILL have a dry cough and I am tasteless (there insert joke). ANY DOCTORS IN THE HOUSE??
------------------------------------------
In other news - pretty exciting morning here is Wisconsin, thunder, PLENTY of lightning and flooding rains. And this is just round #1.

Doing some quick calculations we had about one and one half inches of rain in the last few hours.

Columbus is 3.99 square miles so Columbus had about three hundred forty one million, three hundred thirteen thousand, eight hundred thirty two gallons of water dropped on it. Isn't that amazing?
----------------------------------------
On this day in 1968 Robert Kennedy was shot. If any of you ever have a chance to see the Special by Tom Brokow about all the events of 1968 you really really should watch it. It was a turning point in American History.
----------------------------------------
June 3rd was Anderson Coopers Birthday. Lot's of Birthdays in June.
---------------------------------------
Columbus has a pretty cool celebration coming up next weekend. It's called the Columbus Carriage Classic and features horse drawn carriages from all over the MidWest. Sort of like a Civil War Reenactment without the solders and guns and war but with more woman and children and buggies.

I guess horses would be the only thing in common actually.

Plus huge amazon woman. (sorry, I couldn't resist)

Man - my ears are clogged - I can actually hear my brain working.

But seriously - it's a pretty interesting group of events lasting Friday,Saturday and Sunday (13th through 15th).

There is a parade of sorts also.

I'll have to see how many carriages total there are, the website is a little lacking in facts and figures (I WANT NUMBERS - LOL). I know Todd just sits around most days wondering what to do and dusting a little (I think he said something like that when I saw him at Julies Java House).

Todd & Cheryl Frey started Colonial Carriage Works in 1993 and have over 200 carriages. Before we moved to Columbus I didn't even know places like this even existed except on Amish farms. I went into their store in Columbus and was floored . They have some seriously cool rides. I wish Blake our Corgi would pull one, I'd buy it. BUT - he is more into riding.

I'll remind you of the CCC next week.

A Brewers note.

The bullpen has allowed four earned runs in its last 35 innings pitched.

hmmm - now my ears are ringing.

My body is like a carnival ride today - I never know what is coming next!

OK - I have nothing more to say.

Rod

  1. Hope you feel better soon Rod. You've had a rough time of it lately.

DJ - you feeling better yet?

I still need to pick up the PE book. Normally by the time I have a chance to sit down and read anything I'm so tired that it just puts me to sleep, but this book sounds really good.

  9. Rod, those Amazon women really are huge! The crowds lining the streets for the buggy parade are HUGE too. Don't know if I could handle that many people all at one time.

  22. Sorry, No the Graham’s are back in the garage….I threw in the towel. Chicago was awesome, but too intimidating for me. I filmed on LaSalle Street last, it was an awesome sight. I told PE I would not be going to Chicago any more just too much for my truck $320 in gas alone, not to mention the 6 hour ride one way.
I can’t complain it has been a great ride, 8 days filming, 3 bank jobs (jugs) I even had a fellow yegg named Rod join me for two, he makes a good wheelman. So far I have driven in 4 scenes (means if they don’t cut them I will be driving in all 4 scenes in the movie) the Grahams have been in every scene PE has asked me to come to, right in front most of the time. The Graham has been shot at, over and around, with bullets!
Rod’s reference to “authenticity” of the cars are a real problem for Mr. Mann. He wants cars that look like the 1933-34 cars, more streamlined. The problem is almost no one in WI had money for new cars, or anywhere else in the middle of the Depression. The cars set the look of the movie, so Mr. Mann has had to use 1935 and 1936 cars to fill in, only problem is they were not built yet.

  29. I agree "Public Enemies" is a terrific book. I have a daughter who is 16 and we have 2 copies of the book. Kinda competing on who can read thru it faster. She's winning most of the time as she has more time now that she is out of school. But I catch up on Friday nights usually. It's very detailed and holds your interest! My daughter remembers alot of the details and it gives us something to talk about. Sometimes hard to stay close to your teens and have things to talk about. This whole filming has been a great thing I think. We've travelled to sets together and really bonded. Can't wait for the movie!

  31. I'm glad I have this blog to read. It makes me laugh and that's not too easy to do.

lotus...I have to agree with you about the crowd at that buggy festival. I think I would be a little claustrophobic. I'd give it a try though...after all- I made it through a meet & greet in Oshkosh.
Wish I could be there in Columbus to see the old carriages. They fascinate me. Reckon I'll just be here in TN doing a bunch of nothing.:o(

P.S. I'm still laughing about the Amazons and the crowds. :o) db

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have to chime in here about the Carriage Classic - my family grabs lawn chairs and sits comfortably on one of the many city streets where the carriages pass by in succession. (It's some kind of competition & they are being graded). We are usually the only people on our block - so no crowds! You have to see it - it is very relaxing and quite enjoyable. You can avoid the crowds, and I urge you to come. It's truly unique & quite beautiful!

  34. Hey Kathy-
I thought maybe you and Rick would show up at the Brewery last Friday-(now I know you go on Wed. too-so it kind of answers my question)anyway, Terry (aka Left-Hand Louie)and I waited around 'til about 9, and not one PE soul showed up. But it sure sounds like they'll be showing up tomorrow! Happy Belated Birthday to Jenny- Lefty's was on Sunday.

  35. Haha Rod just checked out the blog from St. Johns, loved the part of getting lost in O'Hare. Gorgeous pictures by the way. We're spending five nights in Nevis at the Nisbet Plantation. A tidbit of history: This was previously the home of Admiral Nelson's (Battle of Trafalgar's) ever faithful wife.

I loved the pictures of the carriage classic, and I wish I could go see it, but I'm going to the pirate festival this weekend, and then a couple bday parties.

I have not read the Dillinger book yet, and I think I will purchase it within the next couple of weeks. Sounds like a great book.

  40. I hope you get better soon, Rod.

It's interesting that it has been posted today that they will be filming in Milwaukee. I saw that they were casting men with real bartending experience, so I sent my boyfriend's photo. They called him right after I sent the picture, but they asked if he lived in Chicago. He said no, but that he's be willing to drive. They said no, but they would consider him for Milwaukee They didn't say when it would be, though. They did tell him more than once that he looked great!!
