Had to laugh this morning.
Wednesday night I was waiting for Baseball Tonight to come on and the final inning of the Tampa Bay/Boston Red Sox game was on. The Sox were winning with ease and there was a Red Sox player, by the name of Coco Crisp, on first base.
He attempts to steal 2nd base but there is a pitchout and he is going to be a dead duck. Here is the deal. He slides hard at the last second trying to take out the second basemens ankles. This is very dangerous at a meaningless time in the game to be trying to hurt someone.
WELL - there are words between the two teams and the announcers are talking about the dirty play and then the camera follows the second basemen into the dugout. You see the manager put his arm on his shoulder and say "Don't worry, we'll take care of it".
The announcers start laughing and you can almost feel them wringing their hands in morbid delight just waiting for the next game.
Today I open up the paper to see this.
It only took one pitch LOL
Here is a pretty good You Tube of the brawl.
-------------------------------------------
Weather - I think we are OK for tonight unless the temp gets above 85 today. We have warm air aloft making the atmosphere more stable to unless we get extra warm I feel we will stay dry.
As for Kurth's. I'll have a hat out for tips for the Kurth's - lets show our appreciation tonight. I'm pretty sure they never envisioned The Kurth being the "IT" place in Columbus! What I think is funny is that I bet most people that will be there are NOT people that go to bars normally.
I think that is the magic about Kurth's. It makes people feel comfortable.
Also - I'd like to have some ideas to do something special for them at some time - email me if you have any ideas.

Happy Birthday all birthday people.
And for any WWII buffs today is the day we invaded Europe with Operation Overlord - also called D-Day.
An interesting sidelight - crossword puzzles and D-Day.
We all know that everything was top top ultra secret but the London Daily Telegraph had a crossword puzzle and on May 2nd the word "Utah" was in the puzzle. Curious, this was one of the landing beaches.
A couple weeks later "Omaha" hmmmmm, wait a minute. The author is placeed under surveillance.
A few days later "Mulberry" the code name for artificial harbors that were secretly being built.
And then "Neptune". That's it! The author, a schoolmaster, was arrested. They looked and looked but could not find any evidence that he was purposely suppling information to the Germans. It was a product of an incredible series of coincidences.
Until 1984 when the mystery was solved.
One of the schoolmaster's pupils revealed, 40 years later, that he had picked up the words while hanging around nearby camps and eavesdropping on soldiers' conversations. He then passed the odd words on to his unwitting schoolmaster when he asked his pupils to provide ingredients for his crosswords.
and there ya have it.
-----------------------------------
I'll bring some post cards to the Kurth tonight!

OSH has created a forum Grinders Island which as a funny personal meaning that no one but me knows about. LOL
Sort of an odd blog today!
Rod
In tune with Rod's comment about the NASA special this weekend, the International Space Station and Space Shuttle Discovery will be visible this evening as they fly over the midwest. They are docked right now, so they will appear as a single bright point of light in the sky that will move at a fairly good pace. They will be visible for 3 minutes beginning at 9:20pm and will move from WNW to SE in the sky.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cool thing to see and I hope the weather is clear so you guys can check it out. It's unreal to think that there are 10 people living up there!
For more information, visit http://tinyurl.com/rzjqd
There is another chance for a sighting tomorrow at 9:41pm. Hope you get a chance to check it out!
I don't think our weather is going to cooperate for the NASA stuff. :(
ReplyDeleteGreat blog, as always, Rod. Lots of tidbit information, which we love! :)
Let's make sure we have enough munchies to go around the bar tonight. Everybody always loves an unexpected treat! (I'm getting on big batch brownies soon)! But let's do something nice for them later, as well. Excellent idea! The Kurth's folks are very gracious to us.
I have a blog update to do now too. Gotta go. See you travelers later.
I enjoyed the crossword puzzle story. I love all the little tidbit of interesting information.
ReplyDeletePart V of my blog is written. This one is titled: Chistian Bale on the Set

Yea - we're both feeling better - just can not smell or taste anything - THUS - I think I'll make some OJ and Rum drink tonight to be healthy.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting about the crossword puzzles. I love that kind of 'now you know' stuff. I will try to check out the Space Shuttle to, weather permitting...thanks mcskippy :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun at Kurth's everyone and don't forget to tip the waitress...
;)
Silly question about Kurth's...do they have a full bar? What beer is on tap?
ReplyDeleteTIA!
I am putting this comment into the latest post, even though you talked about Carriage Classic in your last... I am looking for volunteers Friday and Sunday night for just a few hours. If anyone is interested, please email me at pbhgirl at gmail dot com.
ReplyDeleteKurths does NOT have a full bar - not even half a bar.
ReplyDeleteThey have four? beers on tap (mostly Point)and 4 sodas in a can. I like their Amber.
A couple default beers (Miller or Bud style) Kurth (Point Special) and Amber (Point Amber).
No waitress either.
They specialize in friendly talk.
Oh, and wow... they finally got that Food Network episode edited? I was there when they filmed it (not in it though) and I thought that was going to be my biggest brush with fame in Columbus. If only we knew then. But yeah, the filmed that a year ago, at last year's Carriage Classic. I thought it would never air!
ReplyDelete"Kurth" beer review.
ReplyDeleteLight straw in color with a lot of carbonation...smooth creamy head...slight sweet aroma...Has a very creamy sweet but clean taste...seems heavy on the usage of corn to achieve a somewhat unique taste for a basic lager...I've always liked this one but it isn't readily available in my neck of the woods..It's NOT worth paying major $$$ for, but when measured up against the top macro's it fares very well...Definitely worth trying if you see it.
Thanks for the info Rod...My husband will drink soda and I will have a beer!
ReplyDeleteKurth Amber review -
ReplyDeleteClear ruby amber color, good 3/4 inch head, but its small bubbles start deconstructing a little early. Some drips and dots for lace. Pleasant pecan nutty aroma, bit of maple. Very smooth mouthfeel, works pretty well with a mild malted milk character -- but could use more toastiness. Lower carbonation than my expectations. Hops are what's lacking in this brew, even for a Vienna Red (while its hair splitting, I think this qualifies better as a Vienna Lager), there's just nothing much to balance the beer and make it a better sessioner. As it is, it flattens to a sugar water close. Not too bad, easy drinking.

ReplyDeleteEvan has been working hard on the message board...Michelle, he snagged 2 of your pics, I hope that is OK, if not let me know.
Of course it's ok, Osh... no worries!
ReplyDeleteIn my very amateurish beer review, I have to say that everything I drink at Kurth's tastes great!
ReplyDeleteIt's all the laughing, I think.
Wednesday night I met a guy who super-glued his butt crack shut. Now that was one time I just did not know what to say!

Yep, I've seen the Space Station before. It actually flies by pretty frequently. Of course it's brighter with the Discovery attached. Tonight doesn't look very conducive for viewing it tho.

Only 36 comments? Where is everyone? Oh, that's right; at Kurth's!! Great time tonight guys! The weather even cooperated. Did anyone by chance notice my insulated bag that I forgot on the deck? I remembered it when I was almost home to Beaver Dam and was going to call Kurth's, but they apparently don't have a telephone. I hope someone picked it up and took it with them; it's quite handy to carry in the car.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for a great time.
