What Have I Started

It's June Dairy Month. Any of you OLDER readers remember when June Dairy Month would mean going to the bank with your mom or dad and getting free chocolate milk?

Weird how you remember some things.
---------------------------
Not much time today for a blog - I have a lawn that is waving at me like wheat in the plains and I have to see if True Value carries sickles. Then I havea meeting with the Mayor about Train Station Day and then more mowing. So . . . .

What began as a meeting with DJ,me and Shakenbis (Betty) has become this with Betty the only one covered up (by Mary= "m"). You got some splanin to do "m".

Anyone want to take a shot at names left to right? I don't know any of them except that first dude!

And what would be a meet and greet without wild life eating wild cheese curds! Sadly after seeing that the kitteh had licked each piece Blaznfire decided not to have any more and I have never seen a more sadder look. NO CURDS FOR YOU!

So - have a great day and I'll blog you later. Off to cut the the yard.

Cheers!!

This was taken about 4:00 from my driveway. If I said the tornado sirens were not going off I would be a lier.

This is about 8:50 when new sirens are going off.

  6. Rod,
Up visiting my Mom today in Green Bay, the posters look even better in real life! The post cards look awesome too. The only thing I would like is a "Public Enemies" tag added but I am guessing that would be taboo? Looks like a good time at the gathering last night wish we lived closer.

  7. I wish I would be able to go to one soon. I feel left out because I have not met any of you.

  9. Mary,
You would not have been charmed on our car trip home from Denver last summer...

And Scott said to me..."how do we know Mary?" I KNOW! I told you we know you! But we have no idea from where. And shoot me an email of the file and Scott will do whatever it is he said he was going to do with it.

I hope you all are faring the storms ok. I'm just north of where they all are. DD's birthday is today and she's all bummed out about the warnings. The softball size hail fell on her birthday last year.

I tried to call my mom and and a friend of mine in BD awhile ago, but neither is answering the phone. Hope things aren't too bad around there and that they are just gone.

  21. mary is right, I won! (meaning I ducked for cover) not her fault =)

    Great fun last night all...

I'm glad all you good responsible people are in your basements where you belong. Dummy me finally came in from outside at least! Our sirens have gone off here three times in the last hour and I haven't seen any rotation to speak of... Storms fascinate me, can't resist them, should have been a tornado chaser or something...

Mcskippy the "space sighting" was awesome, did you wave? Were you there last night and I didn't meet you? ;(

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, the sirens have gone off in Madison numerous times. During most of it it was north of us, south of us and east of us. There was one point where the clouds were rotating and it went right over my head. Yes I was standing outside for that part, but there was no lightning or high winds. All of it passed by now. Whew. I hope everyone else is staying safe.

  23. Jenny how is your creek.

We have ha over 3 inches of rain in the last 1.5 hours!!! There is a water fall on the golf course.

    So many tornado's.

We CAN hear the sirens - you should see the photos I have!! WHOO HOO!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. The creek is overflowing!!!! Our strawberries are underwater and our garden flooded :( Our neighbors backyards are flooded. I'll take pictures as soon as the rain stops here shortly.

  28. Great picture Rod! Our whole family loves storms. So far it's been pretty quiet here today, but the radar is showing a good one rolling in any time now.

Yikes on your basement and garden Jenny! I hope everything ends up ok.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I was going to tell you all how much I enjoyed last night at Kurth's,

My basement has a few inches in it. Not a great place to have this happen - it is where I scrapbook (paper, water, don't mix). Insert swear words here.

    ReplyDelete
  30. NEW photos.

Major flooding in Columbus. Jenny's garage has a foot of water on the floor.

The NEW photos show our only exit from our house is underwater for 4 blocks.

    ReplyDelete
  31. so sorry you all are flooded ;(

    ReplyDelete
  32. We are all flooded here to down in Waukesha!

I have about 2 " of water in my basement, and my road is flooded too!

Sorry about your home and garden Jenny! Mine is the same way at the moment.

I took my little Captain Jack figure, and put him inside a paper ship, and floated him down a little river. I will post that pic tomorrow LOL

  33. The Randolph area seems to have been the hardest hit (they're about 10 miles NW (I think) of Beaver Dam. We got about an inch and a half (according to the amount in my dog's food dish) of rain. Dd and I had a garage sale this morning and were just finishing packing up when the sirens went off! So she and her 3
kiddos and I and the two dogs sat in the basement until the warning expired. Looks like we're in for a lot more storms all night. Channel 15 is saying they have never seen 9
counties in one tornado warnings before!
Left Hand Louie and Movie Star, I still want something autographed from both of you to add to my scrapbook!!
Love the photo Rod. You didn't say how many "takes" it took to get one with you in it! LOL
Jenny, I wanted to thank you for being so sweet and coming over to talk to me when I was standing by myself at one point last night. And I'm sorry about your flooding problems. We have a little water coming into our basement (which is where our daycare is) under our front porch. Dh knows about the problem and is going to have to fix it as soon as possible when he
gets back from his fishing trip. Sounds like the weather is going to continue to drop rain on us most of next week!
Kathy, you scrap too??? Did you see the album I brought last night? I know that Elizabeth scraps too. We'll all have to get together and have a crop!

    ReplyDelete
  34. When the sirens went off here, I ran across the street to my house, grabbed my purse,my rings, the dogs and headed downstairs!
Got them to safety and came back up to see if I could see anything, nothing! to speak of.

I'm sorry to hear Jenny,Kathy are under water and Rod your only way out...

My Garden is flooded , I have a leak in the basement(not that bad yet)
And it look's like a River in front of our house..
The Rain gauge said we had 4 inches of rain, and now we are getting more...
    Gotta love WIsconsin!!!!
    And it's weather!

    Rod the pictures are great...
I would really love one of all of us...

  36. Sad News......Josh and Jenny have had to evacuate their house! Their garage is flooded. Water is up to over the windows to their basement. Fire department said they need to turn off their power which means the sump pump to their basement will stop working completely. They had 1 foot of water in there as it was...now who knows how much water will end up in their house.

They can't come here, because they can't GET here. Avalon is flooded by the park--we can't leave either. Thankfully Josh's parents came from Fall River to pick them up and they will stay with them. Packed up the kitties and other important things

Its not fair..they did not need this. Please keep them in your thoughts!!!

I hope everyone else in town is doing okay also...Take care everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh my.....I am so sorry to hear that about Jenny and Josh! I was just thinking about how nice it was last night, and now....my whole basement is flooded...I can't leave the house....Jenny has had to evacuate, and the sirens are going off AGAIN!

M - It was great to meet you too! That was Robbi that I walked in with. She helped me get there, and ended up behind me as we pulled into the Kurth. You're so sweet!

How's your house doing Shak? Any flooding.

Great pics Rod! I tried to take some pictures of the storm as it came in, but the lightning was too much. I had to come back inside. I do have aftermath pictures though!

    Vicky

  38. Jenny and Josh! You're in my prayers. How awful to hear, and you too Vicky.

I just came up from the basement and no more standing water, only silt. I guess we didn't get as much here...

I feel very fortunate to be on the 2nd floor and still have power...

    ReplyDelete
  39. SO sorry to hear about Jenny & Josh's flooding!! I feel so sorry for them! Wish the weather forcast sounded more promising!! I really hope and pray that things will settle down and let them dry out soon!! Please tell them that I'll keep them in my prayers!
Looks like this next one is going just north of Beaver Dam! Let's hope it misses Columbus!!

  40. Hey,

There is noone in my basement tonight. If I can be of any help give me a shout!

    Prayers going out for all.

We were part of the Frank LLoyd Wright tour today. When the sirens went off I had about 50 people in the bank, most of which stayed in our basement training room for almost 3 hours. Talk about "who's in my basement".

    ReplyDelete
  41. Josh and Jenny have applied with FEMA at the Fire Station - Nancy O (Mayor) is at their helping people.

You should see whats coming! MORE rain! grrrrrr

OPP - Tornado Sirens going off!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I hope Josh and Jenny are ok. It sounds like you guys got it bad!

Sirens are going off here too Rod, but there is no rain or wind at the moment. Hopefully it is just a thunderstorm warning. I haven't heard, or seen, anything worse on the tv...at least not for my area.

Thanks again for last night, and I hope you and your family stay safe!

Oh and Rod.....I was pretty bummed about the cheese curds LOL

Fire mans Parks is no longer there and I heard that most highways are caught off by flooding to get here?

    ReplyDelete
  50. For "m"

earlier we were 6.53 inches per hour for 20 minutes!

Total of first storm was 3.62 inches in 72 minutes.

Currently raining at a 2.01 inch per hour!

AND - all this was totally predicted by weathermen - Take THAT nonbelievers.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Gone Rod!?!?! Like washed away? How awful ;(

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ha ha Rod! The weather man!

It is still raining here as well, but no where near as bad as it was...and certainly no where near as bad as Columbus. I thikn we have had just under 3", but even that was enough to cause a lot of flooding.

The road is closed going down hwy 16 west just passed Oconomowoc. My friend got stuck in the water, and had to turn around at the police baracade.

Rod- The last picture is very cool! I love storms....just not what they are capable of as we have seen tonight....the picture is still very good...and very foreboding!

    Stay safe!

It was also nice meeting you Robbi I hope things calm down soon!

It was also nice meeting Ruth. Ruth thank you for letting me ask you all my obnoxious questions about JMB!! I guess I was a little star struck (sorry!! LOL) Whos you are so funny--and your crew is awesome!!!

It was also so wonderful to see all of you guys, Mary, Sue, KrisX, Suz, Osh, Kathy and of course Shakes. I am a big fan of each and every one of you ladies!!

I don't think I got to officially meet MSW, but you and your hubby seem very nice and I wish I would have been able to hear some stories!!

I was so happy that Jenny got lefty's autograph! That was so fun! ANd I have to say he looks so different in his costume!! He really looked the part! And thanks for the beer too!

  59. Ohhhhh, I'm so sorry to hear about the flooding. My prayers are with all of you, especially Jenny and Josh. I can't imagine.

Now for something to cheer you up a little: We just got home from "big time shopping" at Woodmans (grocery store). We opened all the windows, to cool things off a little and started putting away groceries. Then all of a sudden. . .sniff, sniff.. .
"SKUNK--QUICK CLOSE THE WINDOWS!" and my family ran through the house closing windows as quick as possible.

Do you supposed the storm scared the stink out of the skunk? o.k. it was probably the neighbors cat that upset it.

Here's to better weather and fresher air.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Well it was all quiet here, so I decided to go out for a walk to see the damage ( no idea why)....there was no wind, no rain....than BAM! 50 mile an hour winds, and rain dumping down right on me. I ran back to my house faster than I have ever run before. Now the sirens are going off again :(

I don't think this is ever going to end.

Dj - you are just the sweetest!!

    vicky

    ReplyDelete
  61. MSW- Thanks for making me smile....first time I have done that since this weather started!!

Wow Vicky I guess a walk in a storm like that would wake you up!!

    MSW: Skunk smells--yummy!! NOT!
I ran over a skunk once--I mean literally OVER the skunk with my jeep. I looked in my rear view window and every hair on his body was sticking straight up!! He looked like a cartoon. He was fine, but he sprayed the underneath of my jeep and it smelled yucky for a while. LOL

    ReplyDelete

  65. Hey everyone, we're at the inlaws right now in Fall River. I'm pretty sure right now our whole basement is full of water. Meaning our water heater, electric box,and furnace are probably shot.
If any of you know what Josh and I have been through this year, you know it has been pretty damn crappy... So tomorrow we're gonna go back and take more pictures. I'd like to stay with my mom, but like she said, the road to her house is flooded so no one in her neighborhood can get in or out without a rowboat or something.

All I know for sure is that I will never buy a house on water street again, or on any street that has anything to do with "Water" like river road, ocean blvd, lake street. Etc. I think there was a reason those streets were named that way!

Wish us luck. I'll have more info tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I guess moving to WaterTown is out?

    ReplyDelete
  67. and Waterloo!! No More water!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yikes! Getting to work around 3:30 was NOT fun, and I thought I was going to be lagooned in the flood in front of the Ford dealership. Luckily, downshifting and steady gas got me through the foot or so of water. Scary! The ride on the highway wasn't much better...some hail, rain so hard you couldn't see the road, and an accident in Sun Prairie (not me, but I can tell you those new steel cord things DO stop a car).

Coming home was not any fun either, but the lake by the stoplight is not there anymore. Whew.

Jenny and Josh. Ugh, I'm so sorry to hear you had to evacuate. :( I'm worried about my brother because his house is at the bottom of a hill just off of North Lewis. They have had problems with the run-off water, so I bet they have a swimming pool.

This is crazy weather. Keep your senses about you. The flash flood stuff can really catch one off guard.

I hope the water leaves everyone's homes and livelihoods alone. I'm not going to my basement tonight. I don't wanna know, and it's (thankfully) not my problem if it is flooded. But then I have to call the maintenance man. (Noooooo!) :p

    Take care all.

    ReplyDelete
  69. HAHAH Suz, I hope you don't have to call you maintenance man!!!! LOL

  83. Well my 2 leaks turned into the Whole Basement.....
    4 1/2 or 5 inches of water...
    Everything is trashed...
We have a Rec Room down there fully carpeted and all that plus the Furniture is destroyed!. We had to shut the power off to our Furnace,Refrigerator, and Freezer...
The Sewer backed up and come up like a fountain we finally got it plugged. and then the rain stopped so we unplugged it...
Now the water is going down....
I hope it continues to go down.
We did get out the Wood Furniture that was down there..So I was able to save a few pieces...

I was heart sick looking at all our Furniture...

    But Oh well.
Now i just need to find out who to call, to see if we can get anything to help us with this...
If any of you know, please let me know...

    I'll post pictures tomorrow...

On the Bright side of this!!!!!!!!

We wanted to get rid of the carpet anyway...
But we won't be putting any in it again....

Suz Glad you got home safe and Vicky too.

  84. Google ads has Waterfront property for sale at the bottom of your blog! (normally that would make me laugh)

Didn't sleep so well worrying about my Columbus pals, chime in when you can so we know you made it through the night.

Sorry to hear things are worse for you Robbi, but glad you are safe.

  85. I was suprised to hear FEMA was already there. I guess it is good to hear that things have sped up since the days of "You're doing a heck of a job, Brownie" during Katrina. But I am suprised in a good way. I'm very glad to hear they are in town.

You know... I haven't received my daily emails from Osh either. What is going on in Osh-Vegas? If I hear from her.. I'll let you know that she is alive and kicking.

Columbus was very kind to me and brought me a lot of friendships over the past few months. If there is anything I can do to help out the residents affected by this, let me know. I'm going to buy some waders to help Elizabeth and Michelle out for sure but if there is anything else needed I'm sure I'm not the only one that would be there.

Hugs and prayers to the rain 'gods' to make it stop raining

  86. Good Morning all,
Well we made it through the night...
The water has gone down and now it is a sloppy mess.
We at least got our wood furniture out that we wanted to save..
Some of our photo books are gone, but that is ok...

Today I will be calling for a Dumpster and get the carpet and other furniture out along with a few cardboard boxes...

Thank God I had most stuff in Rubbermaids.

And to think they are calling for more of this crap today and tomorrow...
I just hope to get the stuff out before it happens...

I hope everyone else faired through the night...

  87. Our house is on a hill in C'bus and still managed to get 3" of water in the basement. Lost some of the walnut flooring we had planned to use in the pantry. I can't image what other homes look like. It's still nothing compared to Jenny/Josh and Robbi and some of the other homes I saw this morning. Wow - it's devastating out there.

  88. OH MY GOSH! my husband just brought my sorry butt home from Fond du Lac through the most awful storm, right away I logged on here and I am just heartbroken to read about all the flooding! We were in Fondy last night in a hotel (and at a bar with sirens going off and I had 8 too many g&t's and remembered this morning whey I do not drink) You all are in my prayers..especially Jenny and Josh...7 years ago Oshkosh had a wicked storm and my basement flooded, I lost everything down there I had in storage...all covered in poop water...and it sat for a week because that was the day my dad died as well June 12...
Our streets have a lot of standing water right now, but the drains seem to be working...our power did go off, but the kittehs managed to survive.
Jenny and Josh, so glad Fema is there to help...my insurance did crap back then, but Fema did pull through.
My prayers are with all of you and if there is anything I can do to help in anyway please let my know...
    Love,
    osh

  89. Oh Robbi I'm so sorry to hear how bad you got flooded. What a mess that must be.

We were lucky..our neighborhood was just surrounded by water..nothing in our basement. We just got our power back on and Rod is taking Elweed home.

Looks like on the radar there are more red and yellow blobs coming.
    :(
    Good luck everybody!

  90. Ehhh. I have water standing in my basement too. :( I don't have anything stored down there, so no big deal, but my downstairs neighbor is gonna lose a lot of stuff. And my furnace is humming as if on. I called the M-man (Married man-lol). Maintenance man, I mean.

So sorry for all of you who are having it so much worse than I am. :( Take care, and know you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Rod--can't you do anything about the weather?? ;)

(Osh, saw you just posted! Glad you checked in). :)

  92. Thanks Osh, Thanks DJ - very glad to know you are all still safe.

No, the radar doesn't look good, continuing to keep you in my prayers...

  93. Hey Osh,
I think everyone was hoping you'd post during your hot date night! Glad you made it back to Oshkosh in one piece...

  94. Peg,
My husband played pool with his buddies during our hot date night and I drank too much and went back to the hotel at 11!

I should have brought my laptop!
But I did look cute and got hit on by a bunch of young boys from Walleye Weekend. That was good for the ego!

It was a fun time though...we don't get out together often...really nice dinner at a place called Theo's in Fond du Lac, if anybody is ever in town I give it 2 thumbs up...stuffed filet mignon was so tender I could cut it with a fork.

  95. Just talked to Michelle and her and the family are back home.... for now.

  96. Well, Round two (or three or four???) is beginning here...*thundering in background* Glad to hear Michelle made it back and I'm sure others are busy scurrying around to save what they can before the rains begin again.

Osh, I've heard of Theo's but never had the chance to go...sounds yummy! So do the boys from Walleye Weekend ;) Glad you were looking hot! I'm sure the hubby noticed that, even if he was playing pool. I'm sure he was proud to have you on his arm!

BTW, "drank too much"?? Is there such a thing??hee hee...Pretty sassy here for a Sunday a.m.!

  99. Thanks everyone, glad to finally be home and hopefully we will be able to stay. My thoughts go out to Elizabeth and Jenny...Robbi too. What a mess.

  100. Rod left to take his friend back to Madison, but now can't get home. He is walking home through 3 feet of water.
Josh and I went to chek on our house. The flood waters receeded a bit, but they are getting higher again. It looks like it was about 4 feet high in our basement and about 3 feet high in our garage. All of Josh's firewood has floated away I swear he had a ton of it and it is all gone. It is still pouring. We finally got back to Josh's parents in Fall River. There were roads flooded everywhere!

  101. Just got back home after walking a mile through flood water to get to Grinders Island.

Jenny and Josh were ahead of me coming to stay over but were turned back and are back in FR now.

Had to leave to car to fend for itself.

Looks like we had another two inches bringing the total to close to 8 inches.

I actually have news from the meeting yesterday with Mayor Nancy but it seems to trivial at the moment.

  102. Whew! Took a cruise around town last night, and the deer at the deer park had to be let into an adjoining neighbor's yard. Water was up to the deer's necks, and one of the fawns was swept away. There was a canoe on the road between the deer park & the pool. Baseball diamonds are flooded, roads flooded, don't know how hubby got to church today, but he marched on! My scrapbook room, along with the rest of the basement, has three inches of water. We've been through this last year, and FEMA was very fast and thorough. Just remodeled the basement in JANUARY, but hadn't gotten to the floor yet. Good thinking - cuz I was sitting at my desk with my feet in water last night while the tornado sirens were going off. I have nothing to worry about compared to Jen & Josh, and Robbi, and everyone else. So sorry! Suz, you are welcome here for safety (or any other reason!). I need your phone number again, OK?
This is getting long, but I had a nice time Fri, and sorry I didn't get to talk more to dj, Lindsey Lohan (vix), ruth (she's so pretty!), Sue, I saw your scrapbook from a distance & then didn't get to see it again. Yes, let's crop together! Osh, even, Scott, you guys made me smile the whole night. I want Evan for my own entertainment (not as sick as it sounds) that boy is hilarious! Mary, I didn't get a hug from you, but here's one from me! See you all later. Hi Betty!

  103. I'm so sorry to hear about all the water damage down there. We only ended up with 2" up here and it appears it is done for the day. I hope the water recedes quickly for you all.

I spoke to my mom this morning and she said that they did have some water back up through the drain in the basement, but by the time she discovered that it was already gone. She just knew because the rugs were wet. Haven't talked to my friend yet. I will call her in a bit. She lives just off Beaver Dam lake, but there's quite an incline to get to her house so I'm hoping she fared ok.

  106. Kathy, I'd love to crop with you some time; although I'm so used to
working by myself, I don't know if
I'd get anything done! LOL Sorry you didn't get a chance to see my album. If I know you're going to be at another Kurth get together, I'll bring it along again; maybe I'll have more done in it by then!
WOW, the news about the deer park is scary!! PLEASE everyone, stay safe!! Praying for dry skies for a long time!
