Favre vs. Beer

Who is that handsome looking chap on the left on the top left photo.

What? That's ME?? Oh My!

WHEN will they EVER learn to type!! And it's a newspaper for God sake!
=================================================
We're in the house looking at the garden and stuff and hear in hushed shouts Millie! Millie!

Looking out the window we see our neighbors dog squatting on our yard taking a HUGE dump!! I wish I had my camera, it would have been handy as I see Milo on his perch watching Millie dump - he is smiling!

Neighbor cleans up the mess and takes a bucket of water and washes away the smeary evidence. We smile as ammo has just been given to us if we ever need it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you guys seen all the little toads on the ground? I saw like 10 of them this weekend - the size of my little finger nail!! OR, were they just large mosquitoes bloated with blood! I'm not laying on the ground for a while.

But seriously - I saw a bunch of them just hopping around in the yard. Is my garden a TOAD Garden? And speaking of toad gardens. Sort of hard for a butterfly yesterday with 30mph winds!! Saturday we watched little white ones fly in from the west, circle both gardens and then get blown away by the prevailing westerlies!

And Rhonda - WE SAW YOU!!! Yea - while you are looking down at our house and laughing, we are driving past your house. Should have stopped in but we were in a rush.
=============================================
Favre - I'm not even going to attempt to come up with a solution AND, I'm not even going to bother trying to figure out where I stand on this whole thing. It makes my head hurt and it's a no win deal. I'm ambivalent on the entire situation. I'm not going to waste my brain cells on creating a thought process.

The problem is that this situation is SO complicated I can not just come up with a feeling. First I would have to think about it and weight all the facts and then once all the facts were known I would have to look at the problem from each of the over 100 different ways things could work out and then weight THEM against each other.

And while I'm doing THAT I COULD be thinking about beer.

And once THAT thought process shows itself, Favre vs. Beer, beer is the winner. Beer is MUCH easier to think about. Trying to figure out how many Homebrew Bittering Units (HBU) I put in my latest brew in the final 10 minutes of the boil is WAY more interesting then trying to figure out the Favre situation.

BTW - HBU = multiply percent alpha acid in the hops by the number of ounces.
This is SO much fun I love it.

Speaking of beer. My NEXT beer will be an American Amber (like Kurth Amber). The Cannery Wine and Hops Shop (Sun Prairie) did not have the ingredients I needed. But they are young and are going to order. I also joined a class on homebrewing - I feel I know what I'm doing but tips and suggestions are always nice.

I did not know that the area has one of the nations largest homebrewing clubs.

DJ thinks this is a new hobby but in reality this is a continuation of a life long pursuit. I started fermenting things in High School with balloon wine in my closet. My parents made wine and I took up the fermenting hobby and even reached the "picking my own grapes" stage of making undrinkable wine.

I hated waiting a year for the results, beer? I was not a big beer fan until I found micro brews. Bud Light? Yuck! Who wants to spend the time make Bud!

I've ordered two 25,000 gallon stainless steal fermenting tanks for the basement. I hope DJ will not mind! She THINKS the cement patio is for a patio. No, it's the first section of a large driveway for trucks hauling equipment!

OH - I forgot - we're watching Big Brother 10. Yea - I said it!!
Nuff Said
Cheers
Rod

Just a side note, most of the cars you were looking at were not PE cars. The PE cars had “star car” tags. I saw 5 PE cars most were right on the end. I had asked them to do it next year, the movie will have been out about two weeks and there would be a lot of excitement. Next year I might bring my cars but too many car days all ready this year. Good pictures.

  17. Graham,

I didn't think they were all PE Cars but the one on the end which is the green one had the star car sticker.

  20. Bret already turned down Thompson once - should they tell him he can play so he can turn them down AGAIN??

    OOPS

beer beer beer beer go to my happy beer place.

angel - moderating sucks - just pity the number things up for a while

  21. Seriously - in March Brett said he wanted to play - so they said GREAT - called Rogers and said yor on the bench again - made plans and a week later Bret said - naaa - I changed my mind! I don't want to play.

I would love to have Brett play again but . . . . who is the villain here. The guy that keeps saying yes you can play or the guy that keeps flip flopping.

  22. i agree rod, i do think brett is being --dont kill me--selfish....
i want him back as much as anyone, but he is being so...jerkish...

  25. Packers: Favre speaks to Van Susteren on FOX News tonight
GREEN BAY -- Brett Favre taped an interview with FOX News' Greta Van Susteren earlier today -- his first comments since deciding to come back from retirement -- and the conversation will air on Van Susteren's "On The Record" show on the network at 9 p.m. Wisconsin time.

According to bullet points and two brief quotes released by FOX News earlier today, Favre talks in the interview about:

    > How he wants to return to football but remains undecided about where.

    > How he won't return to Green Bay as a backup.

    > His desire to be released.

    > That he was never committed to retiring in the first place.

    > That he doesn't want to be traded because then the Packers would control his "destiny."

In the interview, Favre tells Van Susteren, "I am guilty of retiring early, and there is a reason for that. And the major issue is, 'Why did he retire?' and 'He asked for a release because he doesn't want to play in Green Bay.' That's not true. And I hope people are hearing this and saying 'OK, that clears it up.'"

Favre also says that the Packers are giving "half of the truth" about his situation.

"Them moving on does not bother me. It doesn't. I totally understand that," Favre says. "By me retiring March 3rd, I knew that could possibly happen.

All I was saying is, `You know, I'm thinking about playing again.' The (word) `itch' has been used. That is the word that has been used -- if you want to say `itch' or `the fire is coming back' or whatever.

"If I'm going to play, it's going to be (a) 100 percent commitment. ... And so if you move on (as a team), you tell me one thing, don't come back and tell the public (something else). Just say it. 'You know, we've moved on and we'll work with Brett on whatever it is.' Don't make up a lot of stuff or give half of the truth."

Van Susteren would seem to be a curious choice to receive Favre's first interview. However, Van Susteren, an Appleton native (who, incidentally, when to high school with the State Journal's own Tom Oates) is an unabashed Favre fan, and her previous interviews with Favre and his wife, Deanna, have not been particularly, uh, tough. Favre was clearly looking for a sympathetic interviewer for his first substantial public comments, and he got one in Van Susteren.

  26. From WSJournal today:
FLickr is teaming up with Getty Images to offer photographers a chance to turn their hobby into $$$

Under a new partnership, Getty's editors will peruse Flickr to find pics that may appeal to newspapers, magazines, books, and others.

Getty will then contact photographers who posted pics to see if they want to license their pics. Getty will split the sales with the photographers.

do y'all think all the Pe pics maybe have anything to do with this or just the popularity of pics sharing???

    ReplyDelete
  27. oh, I wonder if Getty/Flckr would have paid J^P more than NE...he could have been a thousandsaires times eleventy!

  28. Great blog Rod! I too am trying not to thikn about Favre. My hubby keeps up with it though.

I LOVE the acrticle of PE cars! I have a great arcticle from a paper I am hoping to scan into the computer soon. I'll try and send it to you in the near future!

  29. If they (the Packers) don't want him, why are they refusing to release him?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Getty - mixed feelings - many photographers have a living taking stock photos and Getty will put some photogs out of business..

Plus I BET you they will give crap money for photos

  31. Two of the teams that want Brett are the vikings and the Bears.

Remember McMahan played for the Packers.

Do you want to lose a chance at the SB because Brett and the Vikings beat you?

  33. Hey everyone... I haven't been on in awhile... sorry. So... glad to see you are all doing well... oh... the Favre thing... yikes.... not sure how I feel on that one yet. On a personal note... anyone know of a decent job in the Milwaukee area? I currently work for Midwest Airlines and as I'm sure you've heard... they let go 40% of their staff... 1,200 people... and I happen to be one. =( Luckily for me and my bills, I have a job 'til Sept 13th so that gives me some time... but not much. I hope I can find something, any help would be appreciated. What a crappy thing to have happen the week of my b-day too... thanks for the present Midwest. =(
