UFO's over Columbus

One of my greatest joys since moving to Columbus is actually seeing stars.

Living in Madison I never really saw the stars unless we went camping or on our yearly pilgrimage to Door County. Now we have spent many many nights on our deck in C-bus staring at an unobstructed view of the Milky Way, watching for shooting stars and just enjoying the billions and billions of lights in the sky including many aircraft coming and going from Madison.

With that said I believe I'm pretty proficient at being able to tell an airplane from a star at night.

Last night DJ and I were near the "main stage" with 700 of our closest friends dancing, listening and talking with The Britians on stage - a fine tribute band for the Beatles. I had been just taking it all in in sort of Norman Rockwell moments, watching people mingle an enjoy themselves and dancing and then looking up and seeing the Milky Way. On a clear night you can see the Milky Way almost anywhere in Columbus.

About 10:30ish (allowing for Miller Lite time distortion) I noticed two very very bright stars that were neither Saturn, Mars, or Regulus the current bright stars in the sky. These awere bright like when the Space Station flew over but there are two about "one inch" apart.

I point to them and DJ says something and we both ogle over them for a while.

I look back at the crowd and then to them a few minutes later. WAIT, they are half as bright and moving at a snail pace. Again I point to them and comment to DJ and as we watch them they slowly, at the same exact intensity and speed, move up the sky and vanish! They were not heading away from us but higher in the sky and - - - - then GONE!!

There are no twinkling of lights that would make me think they are aircraft. Especially when both totally disappear.

So I'm hoping someone in the know about other space objects might know something. If I hear nothing I'm going to contact . . . . SOMEONE tomorrow to find out what those two objects were. I'm just glad DJ witnessed it also.

Public Service Announcement

The 21st Annual Walk & Run for Wishes will be held on August 23rd. Tiffany a blog reader informed my that Felix Boller the most current Make a Wish child, passed away last week after saying to his mom "I have to go to heaven now," And then he said "bye" as though he were going to school.

Tiffany had gotten a Johnny Depp autograph for him and said "I tried to call his mother a bunch of times, and when she didn't return my calls, I knew things for him must be bad. I finally left it at his door on Monday."

Thanks for trying Tiffany. You did good!

And the Lebanon Band - did you know that the Lebanon Band started in 1890, and is the oldest continuous township band in the State of Wisconsin and the only township band left in Wisconsin today.

They were GREAT!!!!

After three days of calm the wind has kicked up again on Grinders Island. ODD - have we had ANY rain since the floods? I'm going to have to water my lawn I think.

Derrick Turnbow watch.

So what has Darrick been up to? No Good! In Triple AAA (that seems a little redundant doesn't it) Nashville he has pitched 15 innings and walked a STUNNING 35 batters. WOW!!!

He needs Depends - no control!!

Did you know that in the 1400's a law was set forth in England that a man was allowed to
beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb. Hence we have 'the rule of thumb'

About 12 minutes into the interview, Bale briefly discusses his time filming Public Enemies. Scroll down to the picture of Bale, and play.

Have a great Sunday and let know kow about that UFO before I further embarrass myself by reporting STRANGE OBJECTS IN THE SKY!

  1. You were probably still seeing the flash in your eyes after I harassed you on the dance floor. ;)

It was great fun last night, I've lived here for 7 years and never really ventured out to the evening portion of the 4th of July festivities. It was a bummer to see the carnival so slow though, although it made taking pictures easier!

  2. Rod, maybe it was the same as this UFO over Mexico. Check out this video:

Sorry, I don't know Little Earl! Have a great day!

  3. Hi from Rhode Island! We had our family 4th of July picnic yesterday and my daughter and I had gone to the liquor store to get some beer. My daughter had be buy some beer from your great state of Wisconsin called Leinenkugel's. My daughter goes to graduate school in Kalamazoo, Michigan and she had tried the beer and really liked it. I tried the Honey Weiss and she had the Summer Shandy. It was very good. It was a hit at our picnic!! Cheers!

  5. Rod, thanks for posting the info on the Walk & Run for wishes. It's a big fund raiser for MAW.

Wow-UFO sightings! What you described doesn't sound easily explainable. Maybe those aliens wanted to join in the fun, too.

I have never seen the Britains, but a friend of mine married one. We sort of lost touch since she got married. I heard they were a good band.

    Have a great day, everyone!

    Hmmmmmm!

There were some very bright stars out ,maybe I should have watch them longer..

    Britains are pretty cool band.

  9. Tiffany, sometimes children handle the dying process much better than adults do. It is almost like they are here on earth (where for sure their pain and suffering is all sorts of horrible and unfair) but we can learn many lessons and take away a lot from the experience if we are able to open up our hearts and minds enough...it sounds from the article that Felix was that type of boy, that was here to teach the adults a thing or two about life, and death.
Please, if you could, pass my blessing on to his mom. And hugs to you for making wishes.

  10. OMG Rod, you're not the only one who saw something in the sky last night. My DS was still up between 10:15 and 10:30 and saw something out his window (he was supposed to be asleep!!)...he came running in to the living room to tell us... very excited and he's not one to make up stories like that.

    BTW, we live in Madison.

    His story:
I was looking out my window
(faces east) and saw a really bright white light in the sky to my right, brighter than anything in the sky. Then I heard noise to my left in the sky. It was a round and spinning shaped object bigger than planes (size of a nickel with arm extended) with red and white lights and made loud sounds as it movedfaster than a plane HORIZONTALLY across the sky towards the bright white light. The lights got faster and it got louder as it got closer to the white light. When it reached that white light it looped around it and they made a strobe-like flash in the sky (NOT like fireworks). Then I didn't hear the sound anymore. The red lighted object disappeared, but the little white one stayed for a while. Then I ran to tell my parents.

Anybody else see anything last night?

Thanks for the blog Rod, now we know our son wasn't the only seeing things in the sky.

  11. Thanks Osh-that is the sweetest thing I ever heard!

  12. Sorry to hear about Felix. My sympathies got out to his family and friends. Osh, that's so true!!

I got caught up in getting the UFO story out of my son...and missed some of the Rod's blog. duh

  13. (((Lawgirl))) So sorry to hear of this. :( I'm a pediatric nurse and have been to many funerals for kids... it never gets easier.

  14. Thanks Calypso-don't worry, we all do that when out attention is drawn to one part of the blog! Your son's story is really interesting. Now Rod knows it wasn't the booze.

  15. Thanks Michelle. It is great that you do that for children. It is a hard profession to be in I'm sure, but it is so important, and you can really make a difference. I hope your adorable little girl is doing well.

  16. Osh--you hit the nail on the head. You are so good with words.

Lawgirl--sorry to hear about Felix. I knew a little girl that had Leukemia and influenced millions of people all over the world. I miss her. When school gets really tough, I think of Noelle and then I work harder.

UFO's--freak me out. I think I saw one once, too. It was actually at dusk, still quite light out. It was black and kite shaped--only much, much bigger. And it hovered in the same place for a long time. Then it went behind the trees and I couldn't see it anymore. My sister and daughter saw it too.

I am off to see the "Kitt Kittredge" movie.

  17. My thoughts and prayers go out to Felix's family.... I cant imagine what it is like to lose a child. M heart goes out to them......

Lotus, I thought you were in the Northwoods, NOT Mexico! =0P

Lights in the sky? Have there been any other reports on the news? Sounds kind of creepy!!!

They are after the CHEESE CURDS!!! Save the cheese curds!!!! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks MSW & Minxie-I know what you mean MSW-when I went to the dentist and had a tooth fixed, I felt guilty that I was so tense about it, when Felix had to go through so much more. I guess their strength can give us strength.

    After the cheese curds. LOL!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Minxie! LOL! I've NEVER been to Mexico, not even astro traveling. :) It may have been my sister!

Yes, save the cheese curds! To all, Minxie has new pics of the JD meeting on her blog. Awesome!

  20. my thoughts and prayers go out to felix's family..

UFO's huh? are you sure they werent just fireworks...lol.... sorry, didnt see anything, though i was in columbia county last night.

hey, random question...have any of you ever written to johnny depp, or any celebrity for that matter? i thought it would be cool to write to JD and give him a more heartfelt thanks for the movie experience and meeting him..etc... do you all think that is weird?! it would be stalker-ish, just a sincere letter.
do you know how to contact him?

    ReplyDelete
  21. WOULD NOT BE STALKERISH! lol
    not be, not be!!
    typo!!! sorry!

  22. i was just catching up on some of the IMDB posts about PE...seriously..what is up with the HNT guy...
does he think that everyone who come to the filming ONLY cared about JD? lots of people came to watch the fimling, to see their hometown be transformed into something completely different and awesome, and to experience something that most people probably will never get the chance to.
why is he so bitter and hatred toward the people who keep his salary coming... fans pay to see movies, which pays salaries and production companies.. who hire people like HNT.
    whats his issue?
he is upset that people like him dont get recognition? well, we do understand the hard work he puts in. VERY hard work. it doesnt go unnoticed.

    ReplyDelete
  23. HNT brought up a lot of good points and was also very concerned and saddened by the flooding and such that occured in Wisconsin. While his approach may not necessarily always be pleasing, he is dead on in many things and has been very kind in sharing his experiences and behind the scenes information about the filming process.

If you look at things from their point of view, it cannot always be easy having hundreds of people standing around waiting for one star. He has said numerous times that 99% of the people were decent and it was that one percent that ruined it. So just keep that in mind before criticizing him/her too much. He had a job to do, lots of pressure, lots of hours, and without a lot of sleep. I think there was more good than bad from HNT if look past the Johnny fangirl commentary. (which he was dead on about on numerous occasions)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Maegen-no it would be nice to write him a letter, because you would be thanking him for something he has done, other than making movies. His meeting the crowd has affected you personally.

    Here is the address:
    Johnny Depp
    c/o Tracey Jacobs
    United Talent Agency
    9560 Wilshire Blvd. #516
    Beverly Hills, CA 90212

As for HNT-who knows. Who cares if people want to see the JD anyway? He has a large fan base, mostly because he is such a great guy. It shouldn't matter whether people came to see the filming, JD, CB, or whomever.

    ReplyDelete
  25. MSW,
One of my most treasured "PE" moments was the conversation you and I had on the way to pick up Betty Machete, when you talked about being an oncology nurse and then we talked about hospice and my wanting to be a volunteer. It was so nice to have that conversation with you and to talk honestly and openly about such a sensitive subject...You are one of the angels on earth as well (Michelle too) that just have that gift and presence to journey with a child...

People like you are my heroes.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I didnt mean to come down on him/her so hard... I guess that just alot of his/her postings seemed to be very negative and depressing.
I can only imagine how hard of a job it was, I missed the posting about the flooding. That was sweet of him/her to be concerned.
    Thanks for your input anon.

    ReplyDelete
  27. thanks lawgirl..
i have seen that address..but didnt know if that was his agent..
what about writing to his infintum nihil address... isnt that his production company? i wonder which one would be better.

  28. Don't know what you were looking at, but this icecream shop came up on Yahoo for best icecream, it's in Wis. Hope you can try it some time, and let the rest of us know what it tastes like, and a photo or two would be fun.

  29. HNT is a very negative person. He likes to make sure people know how hard it is for him.

He has had a lot of good info but mixed in is always a lot of negative.

It's too bad - I was hoping with sleep he would get back to how he was earlier in the shoot.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't know which address would be better. I got that one off of Depp Impact. He may get a ton of mail there. Who knows if he sees everything.

As for HNT-yes, he is obviously a nice guy because he posted all of the at info for us and has said some kind words, but he needs to stop with the generalizations. Yes, there were some bad fans. But the way he words it is seems directed at all people who are JD fans. Most of the bad fans were young, immature people.

  31. Airplanes have 2 very bright lights on the front that are turned on during takeoff and landing. They can look very weird if you don't realize what you are looking at. Perhaps that is what you were watching. (they don't flash).

  32. Hello Everyone!

back from several days of sleeping on a half inflated air mattress...nice back/neck ache(I hate air mattresses...so anyway....I'm back..fun pictures of farmland sunsets and the boys fishing on the river...

been going through the days posts...

I got this address from one of Mann's assistants when I needed to send the thank you items for the national guard..I think they should continue to receive and direct mail around....as it is the productions office for the movie.

    Production Office for Public Enemies
    1436 W Randolph Street
    Chicago, IL 60607

I found this one on the internet from a fan site that people would show pictures that had been returned and autographed if you sent SASE and such with your letter...I don't know if they give the letters to Johnny or if it's just auto-signed and sent out by assistants but you could send a letter there as well...

    Johnny Depp

just a joke people, just a joke!

  37. I was summoned by Jenny to post about an address to contact Johnny. As of right now, the best address for Johnny Depp is the c/o Spanky Taylor address. United Talent agency doesn't forward mail to the celebs, only sends back preprints or return to senders, so Johnny will never see it. It seems Spanky is the best address right now that I was able to locate on my autograph website and it doesn't look like it's been overused yet because people are still posting successes from it. But as with autographs or mail in general sent to celebs, never send something that you're not willing to lose. You never know if you'll see it again, just a word of warning. Any more questions about autographs, addresses or the like, feel free to post and I'm sure that Jenny will draw my attention to them.

  38. The UFOs could be satellites, some of which orbit the earth at low altitudes and shine brightly. They are bright because the sun shines on them after sunset at ground level. They can disappear very suddenly when the earth blocks out the sun. There should be info about what satellites were visible from Wisconsin last night.

Sending letters to JD - I've heard of fans getting responses back from the Tracey Jacobs address, but it can take months. It's nice to send a thank you letter, even if you don't get a reply. Not stalkerish, just a nice gesture.

So sorry I missed out on the Columbus festivities... Jsut got back from Black River Falls (actually Merrillan on Lower Lake) a couple of hours ago. TONS of nasty traffic and a couple of bad accidents. I'll post pics soon!(not of the accidents!)

  46. Thanks everyone for your kind words. The funeral was brutal. It was a really nice service, though. We were laughing and crying.

Felix did receive the Johnny Depp autograph. His mom said he was kind of out of it, but he did see it. Also, a friend of his mother said Felix was telling her I got the autograph for him. He obviously was excited about it. That made me happy. Thanks again Johnny Depp! You gave a child his last bit of joy.

  47. I was going to say the same thing as ms_wonderland about the UFOs... they were most likely another satellite.

I'm not sure if you can go back in time and see for yesterday, but if you check out www.heavens-above.com they will tell you upcoming satellite and space station flyovers for any area.

  48. HNT was over here, because his post addresses the exact topic we were discussing today. It is very nice.

Hi HNT-thanks for your apologies. Yes, I understand your point. Please remember there are good fans, too. I love JD because he is so kind and sweet. I knew that about him long before Public Enemies. I hope you find another great job, and meet a nice girl who trusts you.
