Will Brett Fall to the Madden Curse?

hmmmmm - something went terribly wrong last night in the Favre meeting - a cut and dried meeting and press conference did not go as planned. this is going to get interesting.
========================
Ever year since 2000 EA Sports comes out with that years version of Madden Football, the best Computer Simulation game on the market.

And every year in late January they decide who will be on the cover of the game box.

And almost every year something catastrophic happens to that years cover boy where somehow something messes everything up for the upcoming year.

2000 - Barry Sanders - retires one week before training camp.
2001 - Eddie George - Career year, but key bone head turnover leads to playoff loss.
2002 - Daunte Culpepper - season ending knee injury after sub par year
2003 - Marshal Faulk - Ankle injury - never again rushed for 1000 yards
2004 - Michael Vick - Broken leg . . and THEN it got bad LOL
2005 - Ray Lewis - 1st year ever to not get an interception
2006 - Donovan McNabb - Hernia injury 1st game
2007 - Shuan Alexander - broken foot in 2006, only rushed 716 yards
2008 - Brett Favre ??????????????????

Of course some of those are a little out there but something always happened.
====================
In other Packer news - does Aaron Rogers hold any kind of record? How about consecutive games as a #1 backup quarterback without ever starting (45).

I was looking at the Beer Advocate and noticed they had rated some Madison stores on their ability to stock Craft/Micro Brewed beers. This whole Microbrew beer thing is rather unique and exciting. I'm reading a book called Radical Brewing which talks about the phenomenon of Microbrewing.

Beer USED to taste good but with WWII the big boys started to make weaker/lighter beer to save money. Thus - Miller and Bud and so forth started making their light colored swill for the masses. It's all there was so we got used to it.

Making your own beer was very hard as yeast and malt only came in train load sizes and Hops?? not to be found unless you grew your own. But a few people started to make beer that tasted GOOD - NOT in the normal style. And one by one others got in the act. Their beer was not the light pale tasteless junk Americans were being forced to drink. The more people tried their friends beer the more people started to wake up.

ANYWAY - back on topic, I was surprised to see Jennifer Street Market as rated A- for stocking craft beers. Also Steve's Liqueur, Riley's Wines Of The World and of course both Woodmans.

I tried a new beer last night. Flying Monkey Amber Ale.

I have drank . . .I've drunkin . . . I drinked? a fair number of beers in my life but always from a bottle or can. This is like drinking wine from a bottle or can. Gets the job done but you really don't "taste" the beer.

I had never considered "tasting" beer but now that I have discovered micro craft beers it's a whole new world. A world where beer is in a glass and I don't chug and swallow trying to stay away from a gag reflex.

I now have two favorite beers. Ale Asylum Mad Town Nut Brown and Flying Monkey Amber Ale.

DJ and I stopped at the Ale Asylum Brew Pub in Madison and talked to the Brewmaster. We both got some nice vibes from the place and I love Mad Town Nut Brown. I'm going to have to get the liqueur stores in Columbus to start stocking Ale Asylum.

Flying Monkey is from Kanses and is a light Ale that is really tasty without being aggressive.

Speaking of Flying Monkeys.

A few years ago a coworker of mine went to the zoo with her kid and stopped off at the office and gave toys to her fellow workers. I was given a flying monkey stuffed toy thingy. You put your fingers in little sockets and you stretch him like a sling shot and he would fly across the room. Upon landing he would make a jungle screaming sound.

So I took it home to see how my pets would like it. I knew Blake (Cardigan Corgi) would tear it apart with glee but what about the cats, they love chasing things.

So that night when both were awake I got it out of my backpack and both were curious. What was that thing I had with four legs - looks like some sort of new animal friend. Both were watching me and from the couch I inserted my fingers, drew it back and flew it across the living room where it hit the window with a SMACK and started screaming jungle noises and jerking about.

WELL! Milo, our 3 year old large, strong muscled outdoor tiger cat TRIPLES in size instantly and is totally freaked out. I swear he thinks I just through a tiny kitten against the window. For hours he is on edge and refuses to go near the window, hunkered down in attack mode all puffed out. Even when I show him what it was he is traumatized for the rest of the night.

Sierra the kitten is OK, sniffs it and is fine. But Milo jumps at every jerky movement in the house. Ice cubes fall into the tray in the refrig and he leaps for shelter. He refuses to go near the window for the duration of awake hours.

I guess he didn't like it.

Here is your smokin Johnny Depp shot of the day!

===================================
Garden.

I now have three Monarch Caterpillars crawling around and I THINK I saw some eggs from SOMETHING on the Milkweed. Not sure if they are butterfly eggs but I'll look again to see if they develop into what I have seen photos of.

Also lots of toad turds on leaves with little green toads sleeping in the daytime. And a new chipmunk hole.

Work work work

talk to ya later

  2. That is a really nice picture of Johnny. Thanks for that.

I think Brett has already suffered from the curse. This while thing is crazy. I know there are a lot of people who don't want him back, but I feel like he was pressured to make a decision way too soon. And all he did was change his mind. I do that like a thousand times a day.

    Have a great day everyone.

  6. Great blog, Rod! LOL over the monkey thing! A friend of mine has an array of those things. Hilarious!! Poor Milo--traumatized for life by a flying monkey, then his dad brings home flying monkey beer stuff to make it worse!

Who is the mole??? I can't believe you skipped that.

I don't want to talk about the Packers. They are ripping my heart out, and I may never forgive them.

  7. I'm still figuring our who the Mole is - it's ain't over LOL!!

  8. The Mole is Nicole. I said it on day 1. She was trying to hard to make it obvious that she was the mole. A lame attempt at reverse psychology.

As for Ale Asylum, my favorite by far is Hopalicious. But, you gotta like your beer hoppy (like an IPA). I dig that so yes, I love Hopalicious.

4 days till Great Taste of the Midwest! You really should come down and get in line, people are always selling tickets in line.

  9. We have tickets to the Quiveys Grove Beer thingy - it's on DJ's BDay.

Hopalicious - yea - a little too Hoppy - not a big hop head - funny thing about hops - I'll have to blog about it.

    It's an American thing!

American IPA - The American IPA is a different soul from the reincarnated IPA style. More flavorful than the withering English IPA, color can range from very pale golden to reddish amber. Hops are typically American with a big herbal and / or citric character, bitterness is high as well. Moderate to medium bodied with a balancing malt back bone.

  10. Why are they making us wait another week to find out who the Mole is?!?!?! My hubby and I were so ready to find out who it was last night. Too much suspense!

    ReplyDelete
  11. yea - they did this last year also - you get to see all the stuff the Mole did to mess things up - it's a rather good ending actually.

    Behind the scenes stuff.

  13. Jim Carrey "SMOKIN'"!!!!!!!! Love the new JD pic, Rod. And the story about the flying monkey toy is TOO funny!!!! Did you ever bring it out again?? Or did you retire it; like Brett Favre. I'll reserve comment on THAT whole soap opera!!

  14. OMG!!!!
Poor Milo! I laughed soooo hard though!!!! You traumatied your cat with a monkey, all it took for mine was when I jumped at a spider! She took a DIVE off the top of my loft bed and hasn't been the same since! (we both sleep with one eye open and lights on due to the SPIDER!!!)

Sorry, poor Milo I should have said and stopped there...
    *wicked grin*

I can't wait to taste your beer!!!!

  16. just watched the mike mccarthy press conf..... im so sick of hearing him dance around in circles!
    they should all be fired!!!

  17. Madden NFL 08 picked Farve for the cover after he "retired" to "break the curse"......lookes like it backfired and that curse is going strong........

I work for a company that does projects for WM and they have big cutouts @ front of store of the Madden 08 game with Farve's picture....one employee asked me to take them down because every guy that comes in the store has to give her all his opinions on the Farve/Packers situation.......

I hoped the Packers would welcome Farve back with open arms.......sad, sad, situation......

    Delicious JD pic!!!

  20. Thanks for the JD fix LOL

They had a show on the history channel about making home brews, and about hopps and things that I thought you might be interested in. The show is called "The Works", and it airs weekly on that channel. I wish I would have taped it. Each week they do something different, but the beer one was very interesting!

    About Brett...

My hubby has been saying the same thing about the madden curse for a few weeks...that is too funny. I hope nothing happens to him, but it looks like there is a track record!

  21. Congrats Osh on you blog!!

    Congrats Rod on your steps!!

    Congrats everyone for being loyal!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I read that too Osh, that is very sad. It looks like I may have to change team loyalty even though I have been pretty much a packer fan all of my life. If Brett changes his mind again and goes back to retired than I will stay a packer fan.

    Poor guy.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I heard SOMETHING about the riddler but I don't think I remember hearing JD - I was skimming though.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I also heard JD was to play the riddler in the next Batman. Angelina Jolie is supposed to be Cat Woman.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm sure you have all heard that JD is supposed to be the Mad Hatter in tim Burton's make of Alice in Wonderland..
