Electric Cars, Otis Redding and Beethoven

Public Enemies Columbus Merchandise
WWW.PublicEnemiesColumbus.Com

Well, we all know what happened this day in history.

In 1857 religious terrorists with stoked anger from years and years of public abuse and federal interference murdered 120 emigrant settlers in a wagon train at Mountain Meadows, Utah.

It seems the wagon train stopped at Mountain Meadows and asked the Mormons if they could buy much needed supplies. They were refused and some of the emigrants started to take a few crops here and there, taunt the local Indians and remind the Mormons that they were chased out of Missouri in 1830.

The Mormons were then pissed off and since the Paiute Indians were already sort of attacking the wagon train they formed a plan. They went to the wagon train and said "we will protect you from the Indians".

The told them that they had talked to the Indians and both sides should lay down their guns. When the emigrant put their guns down the Mormons killed all the males and the Indians killed all the females.

When the smoke cleared all 120 and older children had been killed with only 17 young children spared because they were too young to tell anybody what happened.

That is a very very brief summary. There is MUCH more to the story but that's the gist of it.
==================================

On a lighter subject!!

Could not make it to the Kurth last night. Lot's of things going on and the next few days and nights are pretty busy. One of my tasks last night was putting these on bottles of beer.

So now I have to decide when to bring a few bottles to the Kurth. We can't next Wednesday (busy) so NEXT Friday the 19th is the first chance. However - some people can not make it on Fridays!! hmmmmmmm!!

Suggestions??

And I'll say this just to get you all excited. Be ready for an extra special blog Monday!! (shhhh anybody that knows don't say a word. it's a secret!!)
==============================
I asked our Mayor Nancy Osterhaus about the new businesses coming to Columbus and one is pretty interesting.

Located in part of the Inhabitz building will be a new Electric Car dealership with cars outside by the "Oshkosh" sign on Dickason Blvd. Note - I REALLY want to take a photo of that sign before it is permanently blocked!!! Seriously!

They would have opened earlier but the state is requiring a separate license for Columbus (are we the first town??) I feel this is a huge selling feature for downtown Columbus and the "green Columbus" thing! We NEED to advertise how green we are becoming. With street lights becoming LCD (when is this happening??) and now and Electric Car dealership.

Columbus has to push the "green" thing. People love "green".

Also - A national chain will be opening in the strip mall area behind Walgreens (Columbus needs more strip malls, we're running out of space in the one we have).

Plus "we are negotiating with a dog food manufacturer who is very interested in the old FS plant just outside of Columbus" (there goes my Doggie Beer Bar business, maybe I can sell then gently used barley!)

The rest are not as exciting as dog food manufacturing.
=========================================

Man I must be getting old. We listened to The 60's on the way to work today. I love those lyrics!! Too funny!! They sounded like they needed to have a TV show associated with it.

Hey there! Georgie girl
Swinging down the street so fancy free,
nobody you meet could ever see
the loneliness there inside you.

Hey there! Georgie girl
why do all the boys just pass you by?
Could it be you just don't try, or is it the clothes you wear?
You're always window shopping but never stopping to buy.

I can see Metallica rocking to those lyrics. DUDE! IT WOULD BE AWESOME!

Then there was an Otis Redding song. I'm sitting here in my work pen knowing he died about 200 yards from where I'm sitting. The BEST 60's music is from the soundtrack of Apocalypse Now with The Doors, The Stones, Flash Cadillac, The Beach Boys!! Oddly - I have seen the first 3/4 of that movie five times and love it . . . but I have never have seen the ending!!!

BUT WAIT - it gets worse.

I was at BUY MORE the big box store and purchased all Nine Symphonies by Beethoven performed by the South Randolf Community Orchestra (OK OK The London Symphony) FOR NINE DOLLARS!!!

I played Symphony #1, you know, the one with the twelve-bar introduction in the first movement which is often considered a musical joke? but it is actually Beethoven experimenting with dominant-tonic chord sequences in the wrong key.

YEA - ME TOO!! I could not stop LOLing!! Had to pause the CD and wipe the tears from my eyes.

You guys did not know I was first chair Cello in school. I was even in the Wisconsin Youth Symphony (but not 1st chair there).

I love Beethoven! He really really is an awesome composer!! If you can get past the first four chords of Symphony #4 (which you have heard 1000 times) the rest is truly outstanding.

ROCK ON LUDWIG!!

However - a few nights ago I saw a trailer of a movie. I had seen the book a few times and was always curious but never purchased it. The Miracle at St. Anna takes place in WWII.

Miracle at St. Anna vividly follows four of the U.S. Army's 92nd Division of all-black buffalo soldiers as they become trapped between forces beyond their control and between worlds. Three of the soldiers have bolted behind enemy lines to rescue their comrade, the colossal, but simple, Private Sam Train.

They find themselves stranded between worlds in a remote central Italian village, with the German Army hidden on one side and their racist and largely mismanaged American commanding officers on the other.

The strange world of the village floats between myth and reality, where belief in magic coexists with the most horrific acts of war. In the melee that opens the book, the giant Sam Train suddenly comes to believe he can turn invisible, the local miser believes he is cursed with a wealth of rabbits, and each of the other soldiers also exists in a mythical world of his own. But they are all about to be shattered by the Miracle.

Trailer

It looks pretty good.

3 hours later - I just read the PROLOGUE - I have chills.

And just so you don't think Hurricanes are old hat. Here comes Ike!!!

Ike is an odd one. The pressure in the eye is telling scientists that this SHOULD be a Cat4 hurricane right now, but the winds have not developed yet. I find this very interesting. We have all if this knowledge but still, odd things can not be explained.

ENOUGH!!

I have work to do!

  2. I have problems remembering yesterday - today is much easier!

I did not mention The World Trade Center because I felt it might be mentioned elsewhere!

I'm desperately trying to not get political here!

  3. I remember 9/11 and sitting in front of the television after a call from a friend telling us to turn on the tv. Those images do not go away.

God bless those who lost friends and family on that sad day, and thanks and blessings to those who continue to stand up strong for America. Our troops are amazing people.

Friday beer tastings are good....don't worry about those who can't attend. ;) (Maybe a well-placed bottle of beer on a doorstep would make you feel better about those who are left out). LOL

Music....ahhhh, me and the oldies station are "like this."

    I'm old.

Happy belated anniversary to Josh and Jenny!!

  4. I will never forget the way things unfolded 7 years ago. It was my daughter's 30th birthday and she was feeling a bit blue about hitting 30. I had a terrible headache that morning so I took something for it and laid down for a bit after she got to the daycare. I turned on the Today Show and opened my eyes as they broke in with the news of the first plane hitting. Then I watched in horror as the second plane struck. We had the television
one for the rest of the day (and days following)!! As she celebrates being 37 today; she still remembers THAT birthday and how thankful she is to be able to celebrate another one.
Happy belated anniversary Jenny & Josh!!
LOVE your beer label!! PERFECT! You'll just have to choose a date for tasting that works for you and
Kurth's and those that can make it, make it. I sure would try to be there to try this thing that "tastes like beer"!!
Prayers for everyone in the path of Ike; sounds like he's definately going to cause damage!!

  5. The electric car dealer will actually be located inside the rear of the Inhabitz building. The Oshkosh sign is not going anywhere. I was hoping to have it re-done this year but unfortunately running out of time. They may park a car outside from time to time but otherwise they will be inside the existing building. It is a great starting point for them. Columbus is their second dealership. We are really hopeful that this will get the ball rolling and they can expand to a larger location downtown.

Label looks great. Looking forward to a bottle of the Carriage Classic Ale. Will that be available in a light?

  6. The Columbus Carriage Classic Ale might ALREADY be Light!!

It depends if the dilution department got it's act together.

The directors have been reviewing the process thinking that the dilution department has been taking bribes from the Columbus Water department lobby.

Evaporation numbers during the boil might have been overstated.

HOWEVER - Company officials have learned something about bottle carbonation which is fascinating!

Bottle Carbonation is a natural way to carbonate beer and the little yeasties like it at room temp.

HOWEVER - as Mr. Wizard has told me - the open space of NOT beer in the neck of the bottle holds all the pressure in a warm bottle.

If I put the bottle in the frig for a week - that pressure is driven INTO the beer which will . . . . . dare I say . . give me good head.

  7. Ah, maybe I'll pass on that Carriage Classic Ale...

  8. There is a movie called September Dawn which is the story of the Mormons and the massacre, it was quite scary...as far as they way believed they were in fact 'helping those sinners" to find a better way..through death...I found it scary to know that there was a 1st September 11th...and when you know the whole story...it really felt like the two incidents were similar in that religion drove the train for them.
