Photo from Wednesday after work from the deck.
Not the most funnest of days Sunday as my buddy Elweed and I switched back and forth between the Brewers and Packers. We did manage to miss every score of each of OUR teams but we caught 90% of the scores for the OTHER teams.
BUT - we're still better then the Cubs.
Flachback to 3 days earlier (like what they do in the movies).
Friday DJ and I arrive home from work and I grab a few cold Columbus Carriage Classic's and drive to meet Todd Frey the owner of Frey Group Properties and of course the Colonial Carriage Works.
We talked a bit and sucked down some brewskies and he seemed to like "his" beer.
(Flash forward for a second - ZOOM) My main business guy that tells me what to do at my REAL job told me this morning "That was the best beer I have ever had, I actually savored it" Which means a lot as he goes to a lot of beer festivals (I gave him a CCCAle as a bribe).
ANYWAY (now flash backward once again to Friday - ZOOM) , after I accomplished my mission with Todd (mission goals: 1. do not make a COMPLETE fool of yourself. 2. do not lose bottle opener - goals met = 50%).
I rushed back home to put more CCCAle into a cooler and rushed to the Kurth. Once there I had been given permission to test market my homebrews and all went well. I even had a page of interesting info that everyone passed around and asked questions and all seemed enthused.
Leroy really liked the beer along with Arnie and most comments were positive. Some drinking the light beers said it was too strong but that just told me I had a challenge and all weekend I've been formulating and looking for a recipe for a light style beer intervention.
Then our little group moved to the back and Sean, the Columbus Tree dude, stops in and is carrying bags of fresh hops which puts me in a conundrum, so many beers to brew, so little time.
This of course brings on show and tell time at the Kurth as I pass around real hops to all Kurth regulars and everyone is talkign about hops and beer.
Thanks Sean - your beer is next in the pipeline, it was nice to officially meet you. I was a little worried when The Wood Fairy met The Tree Dude but it was obvious that the love of trees has a strong bond and they talked a language I could not understand.
Once back home DJ and I both expressed the opinion that PERHAPS, a night at the Kurth should not be on an empty stomach next time.
Friday night the temp dropped to 28.4 degrees and we had frost. However this really perked up the Aster's and when I was mowing the lawn I noticed there was a bee party on the Astor.
I had never seen so many honey and bumble bees in one spot. I even saw one bumble bee that was HUGE. Take the largest bumble bee you have ever seen and double it. Seriously, DJ and I watched it for a while, it was larger then one flower.
So Saturday was a getting stuff done day and then we drove down to Fort Atkinson as my brother came up from ILL (land of the Cubs) and we went to Gus's Pizza in Whitewater.
Once done we were all putting money on the table for the bill and my mom pops out a ten dollar bill that catches my eye. it looks . . . . different. I pick it up and am looking at it and I look at the date, 1929. She is spending a 1929 ten dollar bill. We pass it around and I sell it back to her for $15 (always looking to make a buck).
I then had them try some beer and Ralls who does not drink beer liked CCCAle and was surprised it did not give him the typical gag response.
My mom was still worried whether it was safe, but drank some anyway and said politically correct things.
Then Sunday happens and my buddy Elweed is over to watch the Brewers and Packers win and we're drinking MORE homebrew and I break out a brand new, never been drunk before, Double Chocolate Stout. He says he is not a big Stout drinker and I say this is a "green" very young stout and pour one bottle into two glasses.
WOW - not only did I like it but he said that even though he does not like large heavy beers this WAS GOOD. DJ takes a sip and says "I LIKE THIS, it's so smooth!"
SUCCESS!!
So we are flipping back forth between the Brewers and Packers. We did manage to missed every score of each or OUR teams but we caught 90% of the scores for the OTHER teams.
Meanwhile, DJ is making an apple pie which I swear was the best apple pie I have ever had.
After THAT excitement was over we watched Ironman which is pretty good for a "meet and greet" movie. Thin plot line but overall a very very entertaining movie.
And that was my weekend.
It looks like Sabathia really wants to come back to the Brewers as he likes Milwaukee and his teammates. He seems to be a guy that is more concerned with his family and happiness then getting an extra 30 million dollars.
And that was my weekend - better get work down now.
I hope you all had a good weekend.
AMAZING RACE CHALLENGE
We had 6 people join in the fun and I'm not sure how to put up the picks
HOWEVER here are the standings after Anthony and Stephanie (who had become a small fav of mine) came in last.
1 point Colette
1 point DJ
3 points Andy
3 points Jenny
4 points Rod
8 points Mark
remember - you get -5, -10 and -15 points for picking 3,2,1st correct.
Cheers
Rod

Rod
Good morning Rod! Great blog today! I missed reading them while I was on vacation.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad that I missed the beer tasting at the Kurth. If I wasn't freezing my behind off in the U.P. I would have come. I want to try that choc stout!! Maybe next time.
Oh yea - I have one set aside for you blaze. I might have to give you an early one if I see you before the official Stout Party. I imagine you will be one of the few that might appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteAww thanks Rod! I will LOVE it I am sure!!! When is the official stout party?
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try it!!!
Those flowers are called Michaelmas daisies in the UK. Sure sign of autumn! Michaelmas is 29 September.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are asters - Astors are the rich folk.
Your beer is making me salivate.
ReplyDeleteSorry I missed another beer tasting at Kurth's!! They may just
ReplyDeletehave to add you as one of their
brewmasters! I REALLY want to try
one of the chocolate stouts! I've
never tried (or heard of for that matter) a chocolate beer before!
Sad sports weekend in Wisconsin.
Brewers, Badgers and Packers all lose at home!!
Well - it does not TASTE like Chocolate, not like a Hershey bar - more Chocolate Malt. Pretty tasty though. If you like Chocolate you SHOULD like this Chocolate Stout.
ReplyDeleteIt's not harsh like most but very smooth and silky.

I always thought you looked like Lindsey Lohan, but not so much anymore. You're much cuter, and not ghey.
I'm not ghey, either. Just paying you a compliment. Are we clear on that?!!!
