Kitty B'Gosh Prowling the North Woods

On my way back from a recent trip to Copper Harbor, Michigan I decided to take a day to prowling the North Woods of Wisconsin. My mouth was getting dry and I felt like I was going to hack up a fur ball. So I stopped in at Little Bohemia to lap up some hops and barley milk. I politely asked the barkeep if it would be ok to snap a few photos and was given her blessing.

My friendly suds master disappeared in the back and suddenly, she leapt toward me with a message. "Those three guys that just walked in have their cars here from THE MOVIE." Sure enough there were three guys looking around looking for "the bullet holes." I chatted with them for a bit and found out that they had made a special trip from Chicago to Little Bo just to see the place. And to top it off, they made the trip in their cars that were used in Public Enemies.

Since they were at Little Bo for a very quick look-see, I had to lap my sudsy milk fast. As luck would have it, they had positioned their cars at the entrance to snap a few photos before going on their way. The two cars in the foreground where used for filming in the Chicago area.

When I was at Little Bo this past Spring, all I was able to do was play cat and mouse with the security guard. They were cleaning up after filming and still not allowing any one on the property. My return visit sure made up for the frustration I felt that day.

Thanks Kitty - funny thing is that I was just talking about you and your store to DJ Wednesday.

I think we have a new drinking game. Take a shot every time "maverick" is said during debates.

Seventeen times the words was used.
======================================
Brewers - what can ya do! Can't blame the bullpen. I have heard Cubs fans are on suicide watch.

==============================
Any Coke drinkers out there? I have had bad coke after bad Coke lately - syrup AND cans. Is it me??? are my taste buds off when it comes to some sorts of sugar.

This day in History. In 1941 the Maltese Falcon opened starring Humphrey Bogart as hard-boiled detective Sam Spade, opens. The film marked the first time Bogart's name appeared above the title of the movie on a film credit.

The Maltese Falcon is a 1930 detective novel by Dashiell Hammett, originally serialized in the magazine "Black Mask". The story was adapted several times for the cinema. The main character is Sam Spade but appears only in this novel and in three lesser known short stories, however it is wildly cited as the crystallizing figure in the development of the hard-boiled private detective genre.

Also a BLACK day for turkeys. In 1863, expressing gratitude for a pivotal Union Army victory at Gettysburg, President Abraham Lincoln announces that the nation will celebrate an official Thanksgiving holiday on November 26, 1863.

  4. When I was at Little Bo in August, one of the employees who worked on the set said that several items(one of them -- the tommy gun) had been stolen since the filming. Now, LB has installed security cameras for mischievous visitors, other than raccoons of course!

  6. Wow, Chicago to Little Bohemia in three model A's that is a long trip! 45 to 50 mph tops. What a great trip they most likely retraced Dillinger's trail. They would have taken all the old highways most likely right through Columbus and Oshkosh. Thanks for the pictures and great story.

    Rod, when do we see the Rod’s Wheelman Ale?

  7. Mary,
    Doesn't Coke always taste better out of the bottle? My grandparents always had Coke in a bottle, I remember the bottle opener that was screwed into their kitchen cabinets -had Coke's logo on it. Best Cokes I ever tasted- and I'm a Diet Pepsi girl! Louie and I will make Kurth's after Homecoming Game. Or earlier if it's a blow-out-SHHH, I didn't say that.

  10. Coke is my drink of choice! I thought it was just me, but I have noticed the cokes not tasting right, too. Mostly the ones in the cans. The 20 oz are o.k. However, my favorite Coke mix is from McDonalds. I don't know why, but they taste the best--more carbonation or something.

    I remember when we were in Mexico and it was so yummy to drink a bottle of Coke. I just might have to buy some bottles.

    I was at the World of Coke in Atlanta. At the end of the tour there was a room that had all of the different kinds of soda/pop that they produce throughout the world. You could taste as much as you wanted. It was awesome.

  12. Just back from Little Bo myself!
    What a fun weekend ;)

    On Coke!
    I agree with MSW on the Mc D's blend, less sweet, more carbonation. Best of all though is in bottles in almost any other country! (yes, sugar instead of corn syrup!)
