The Dog Days of Public Enemies

When I started this blog 247 days ago I had no idea what was going to happen. All I wanted was a place for the people of Columbus to know what was happening with the movie.

I contacted our Mayor who put me in touch with Todd Frey but being a "nobody" with a blog I didn't really get much attention. I depended on you guys and copying stuff I read in other towns newspapers. Well as you all know 14 days later I had 9,400 hits on my tiny blog.

ANYWAY - you all know that. Things calmed down for a while. Ramped up again when I was on the set in Oshkosh, calmed down and the final big fling was the final scenes in Columbus where the blog was once again in the upper 4000's in hits per day.

Universal went to Indiana and news out of there was sparse and I felt the end was near. Once filming was finished the gang took off to California where we had one last flirt as the PEC gang were able to get on the set at that race course.

And then the darkness came. No news, no new photos, no cool stories. We were/are in the middle of darkness.

Well - not that I have to defend myself but I THINK if I say I'm making stuff up and THEN say an . . . off truth. I don't think you can call it a lie.

BUT wait!!! I see a tiny speck of light?

Another anonymous who I know knows a lot about movies and still reads the blog commented that he predicts the Public Enemies trailer will be the first week of December. His reasoning is as follows.

"based on Michael Mann's last big summer pic "Miami Vice" he had a trailer in first week of December 2005 for July 2006 release date.

Also Universal have Frost/Nixon opening 5 Dec which is R-rated and so could be a rating compatible movie to show the Public Enemies trailer with."

He stresses he has no inside information and is just basing it on movie knowledge of which I have to think is extensive.

I have to say that the first time I see the trailer it will be surreal and DJ and I will watch it a few hundred times!
================================
Speaking of trailers - A movie I am REALLY looking forward to is

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button which comes out Christmas.

It's a 150mil production and took about 150 days to film. Most of it was shot in New Orleans in late 2006. Teh cool thing is that to age Bred Pitt realistically they used a system created by Apple called "Contour". There is an article in the NY Times about this called Camera System Creates Sophisticated 3-D Effects. I love technology.

It was SUPPOSE to be release in May 2008 but was pushed back to the last week of November and now Christmas. Not sure why the delay?
============================
For some reason all my TV shows were not on last night. Some sort of election. HOWEVER - I do have the Amazing Race standings which I keep forgetting about.

Jenny and Mark were the weekly winners and only received 1 point (remember, less is best). While Colette, Andy and Rod all received 4 points.

Rod and Colette have two of their top three off the board and just like John McCain once Ohio was flipped Blue . . . .it will be a tough road from here on out.

Standings

Jenny 10 points
Mark 12
Colette 13
DJ 13
Andy 16
Rod 16

New beer label.

This is from the hops Sean was kind enough to toss my way.

Sean - if you happen to get to Sharrow Drugs, Meg's is thinking about growing hops. Might want to mention that you grow hops. Maybe I'll have to look into hops to save some money in my beer adventures.

===================================
I was reading the election stuff in the paper today and turn the page and in bold headlines.

GREAT WOLF NAME LEADER

WOW - what a coincidence. One of the groups in the animal kingdom has elected their leader just like we did. I guess the real surprise was that somebody was able to report on it.

It's right there on page A8 of the Wisconsin State Journal.
===============================
I had all sorts of syrupy stuff to say about how I believe this is one of the greatest days in American History. Not because of WHO was elected but because he was an African American.

Did you know America is the only Country in the world that is based on an idea? The idea that all men are created equal and free. The problem is that it is nice in theory but in practice it's been hard. I believe we took one very large step forward and all of those aliens that watch us have to be impressed (I watched a show about UFO's in case you are wondering).

Speaking of aliens. You all know how Americans are gaining weight? It's been called a Weight Epidemic!!! Yea - you know who is causing THAT don't you???

Just another reason to get in shape!!!!!

  2. Rod..I thought you were going to post the story of Johnny Depp's support for Obama being the single most important factor in his victory. As anonymous said yesterday you need to spice things up around here!
    I'd offer some help in your beermaking ...but after basketball on Monday night I've been told I have absolutely no "hops" anymore. Sorry!

  3. So what does the winner of the Amazing Race contest win? And it better not be beer!

  4. Won't it be a great thing when we can say the Democrat or the Republican won instead of the African American or the Black Guy...when we can look beyond the color of a persons skin and see...the person?

  5. Your blog is great Rod! I can't wait to see a trailer! There's a lot of memories on this blog for me, and I ma sure for a lot of others as well.

    Today is Guy Fawke's/Bonfire Night. I put up a little ditty on my blog about it. Check it out if you have time :)

    Keep it up Rod!

  6. I think it is awesome that an African American won. About time.

    I know what you are saying Osh and I have to think that in order to "look past" color we must make color equal. I believe this was a huge step towards "looking past".

  8. A lie? I thought it was some good-natured fun. I am thankful that I found this blog when I did. It gave me an idea of what we were in store for when Public Enemies hit Oshkosh.

    It also served as my inspiration. Seeing the photos of the store fronts in Columbus gave me the idea to document the transformation of Main Street Oshkosh. It became a daily ritual for me to go downtown every day after work and spend a few hours photographing the changes and chatting with the workers. In the end, I have 3000 photos and memories to last a lifetime.

    This blog has brought a lot of people together that may never have known the other existed. I'll bet we even pass on the street and don't even know it!

    I may not comment often, but I do check in every day to see what Rod is up to. Once the trailer hits the airwaves, things will heat up once again.

  9. I agree with Osh...skin color is just like clothes, it's just on the outside and we are all the same on the inside. In fact, we ALL came from the same place a long, long time ago- so we are all related. I cried when Obama won- tears of hope and joy!

  10. Why didn't Columbus give out "I voted stickers???" I didn't get one :( It was so sad :(

  11. So glad I lived long enough to see someone besides a white male elected president of this great country...

    It's time! ;)

  12. Yeah, Jenny! No stickers here either! And by the way, in many cities your sticker got you swag. Starbucks gave away free coffee if you showed your sticker, a donut chain gave out free donuts. So, while at the Culver's drive-thru, I asked if they had any freebie deal for conscientious voters-- and heard birds chirping. I voted, and I wanted free food darn it!

    Oh, wait... you don't think... aliens arranged those deals?

    Never mind.

  13. Super cool label for the beer, I'm a bit biased of course. I'm glad someone did something good with those hops. I will find the time soon to use them.

    Very nice blog, never boring, always transcendent.

  17. Shakes - have you tried the barley yet????

    I have another batch of brew this weekend - I brewed up Cream of Three Crops but it was barley/cord/rice - not the best for bread or Doggie Beer bars.

    BTW - you can find Rogue Hazel Nut Nectur at Woodman's in the large bottles - MAN that stuff is good - I hope mine is half as good. Then it will take me twice as long to drink it.

  18. "Your blog has become boring."

    NOT!

    "Shakes - have you tried the barley yet????"

    No I haven't but I had a nice looong daydream about it yesterday and think I hit on some inspiration! (don't want to give it away on the blog!) Probably won't get to play with it till the weekend, grrr...

    Barley/Rice/Corn sounds like a great Beernola Combo!!!! (most packaged snacks that aren't potato contain rice or corn or both! the barley is BONUS IMO!!)

  19. Never thought to look at Woodmans!!
    thanks...

  20. btw... When's your Hazelnut Nectar debut Rod?
