Get Smart?

Friday!!!

We watched Get Smart last night and I was prepared to be underwhelmed with dumb slapstick, but it was out first Blu-ray movie so . . . . . . blah blah.

What we found was that after 15 minutes we both had tears of laughter in our eyes. Steve Carell is hilarious and Anne Hathaway is an outstanding "straight" man. it's witty and the slapstick is smart. Even when you know exactly what is going to happen Carell pulls it off in a funny funny way. Highly recommended if you Like The Office of any Carell movies.

The extra's are rather boring and mostly worthless but there is a small "Making of" where they talked about the final filming in Moscow. The only had 12 Americans and a Russian film crew. The final scene shot was at 3:00 in the morning in Red Square and they said it was surreal, no crowds and only the 12 of them.

In other news - I failed to mention "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (sorry Bob). curious came in 3rd last week drawing $28M and was behind Marley & Me and Bedtime Stories with Valkyrie coming in 4th. this was one of hte best if not THe best Christmas openings ever.

Pitt and Wagner (1st Assistant Director, the same as PE) should end up in 2nd place after this weekend with about $81M after 11 days but can not get close to the family juggernaut of Marley & Me.

=======================================

Weather - watching a BIG storm for early next week. To early to see the exact track but be prepared.

========================================

Sorry we missed all of you at The Kurth by half an hour. The timing was poor. I did get an email from John in Ann Arbor who is making the trek to his home town to see his mom. He mentioned that he has been reading the blog and keeping in touch with Columbus happenings and is going to stop in at The Kurth so . . . . if you are looking to hoist a pint stop in.

On a personal note - my iPod battery died. She's gone Jim. Along with 200 songs!! DAMN It! I found a site to order a new battery for $16 but - grrrrrrrr.

Tha's it - brain is drained!

See ya next time

  5. Capt Morgon - WELL - NORMALLY I would have all my songs on my computer - but the hard drive crashed taking the songs with it. So when the iPod died so did the music (there was a song about the music dieing). HOWEVER - the battery came back to life and I transferred all the songs to my laptop.

    Jenny - I MUST know the "secret" of this movie - I doubt I'll watch it. I saw an interview with Will Smith about making the movie - THAT was depressing.

    Sean - NOT YET! It's front and center - maybe tonight if we watch Sweeny Tod in Blu-ray

  9. I got it in my grubby little hands today---my issue of EW with Johnny on the cover came on time, in the mail. Even though I got it on-line, I'm old-fashioned and like to touch the paper.

    Diving Bell. Fantastic movie. Drove to Fond du Lac last year in sub-zero temps just to see it.

    I highly recommend Benjamin Button. Tarjie P Henson is very good. And if anyone sees Doubt, keep an eye on Viola Davis. Another excellent performance by a second tier performer.

    Not a Cruise fan, but I broke down and saw Valkyrie today. I'd give it a C. Would have been better with someone other than Cruise in the driver's seat. But I have thing for anything Hitler. I think it interests me because I had (still have) relatives that were in Germany during this time. My great grandfather came over from Germany when he was three (late 1880's). During the war relatives would write to him asking to send flour and sugar. In one of the letters (I've had several of them translated over the years) the family talks about how the SS came one night and took their father never to be seen again.

    Hoping to see Seven Pounds tomorrow--before the ice storm hits.
