Christian Bale Having a Bad Day + Columbus Government

First I'd like to re-post this little bit of "Christian Bale having a bad day at the office". Be warned - it is rather . . . offensive but COULD be a record breaker on the times one person can use the word f*ck in one tirade.

It happened after director of photography Shane Hurlbut (OR herenotthere?) apparently walked through the set of "Terminator: Salvation," distracting the actor in the middle of a big scene.

In Oshkosh they were constantly telling people to back up and hide behind buildings because the actors could see them and it was distracting.

What I found amazing was that it actually gets WORSE!!! near the end LOL

Christian Bale Having a Bad Day
=========================
I feel that perhaps in the last week or so I have been joking around at the expense of the Columbus City Government and I'd like to set the record straight.

The above Christian Bale tirade is ACTUALLY the City Council talking about the Uday Dam!

NO NO NO there I go again - sorry sorry.

In all seriousness the problem with the Columbus City Government is that the town of Columbus does not have any REAL problems. There are no murders, rapes, 911 controversy, stranded motorists on the freeway and so forth. We have leaf pick-up problems and pot holes and the big grocery store controversy.

When you look at the big picture we're doing pretty darn good. Things are just fine. People talk about (including myself) the bickering but only because there is no BIG news to take it's place.

People will always find something to complain about, ALWAYS.

For instance, there is now a "problem" with getting a fire chief, yet the BIG picture is that we have a WONDERFUL Fire department and are very well protected. People complain about property taxes yet they have dropped 5 years in a row and the mill rate is 8.0 for the first time in 20 years! People complain about the vacant buildings downtown but I believe we have OVER a 85% of the stores populated.

Sure, there are squabbles but if you look at any growing, forward minded town you will get that. I would rather have some controversy and debate rather then a bunch of yes-men. I read that one candidate, when posed the Udey dam question said that whatever the town voted for he would go with that! BAA!!!! What a horrible idea. When I elect leaders I want THEM to make the decision, they are the ones that know more about the details then Joe Public. Sure the elected leaders could make the wrong decision but at least a decision is made.

I might make fun but deep down this town is doing fine.

BTW - this is the first Wednesday of the month which NORMALLY means Kurth night. But some of us are going to the Mayoral Debate to heckle from the upper balcony (if there is no upper balcony we will sit quietly with the rest of the people).

Let's make Feb 11 the 1st Wednesday for the Kurth.
==========================
CHUCK!! Well - We watched 5 minutes without 3D glasses and turned it off. PERHAPS if they are going to have a 3D show there should be some place to get 3D glasses. We were 0-3 on looking for them.
============
I went to The Malt House in Madison for the first time and it really reminded me of the Kurth, except with 14 more tap beers and 250 more bottled beers and 44 more Whiskeys. Otherwise exactly the same. No TV, no music, no smoking and a few chips. All you could do is talk. Great place. Columbus REALLY needs a place like this where a person can go and have GOOD beer in a smoke free atmosphere.

When you order a beer, let's say a Duchesse De Bourgogne (a Flanders Red) you will get it not only in a glass for that style of beer but also before one drop is poured from the tap the glass will have fresh water swished to remove any soap from washing and to cool the glass. They really take care of their beer.

I am SO glad that place is not close to where I live - tough enough having a brewery in the basement.
=====================
Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson were killed on this day in 1959.

This is a meaningful thing for me because of Don McLean. In 1972 he wrote a song called "American Pie" and in 1973 I was on the High School tennis team and in the spring we had to run laps in the hallways and our tennis coach was like having a nervous breakdown or something as he made us listen to that one freaking song for over an hour. I'm not sure how long that song is but if it was a typical 3 minute song we heard it 20 times in a row.

I hate that song. I also hate Crullers (I ate eight of them once).

And for any of you wondering - my speaking engagement price has risen to $10,000 per engagement and my contract has a no singing clause.

  2. I just have to ask. I can't seem to make it to the Kurth much lately, I don't live right in town, and yet I've been wanting to get the lowdown for ages:

    What's the big controversy with the Udey dam? I drive over that area all the time. What is the gist of the opposing sides on that issue?

    Anyone who cares to take the time to fill me in-- most of you have my email. Thank you.

    I'm really thinking differently of Bale after hearing that. There have always been temperamental actors... but this is so far over the top, it sounds like a script itself. Wow.

  3. I have heard of prima donnas before. Now I know what the term means. LOL What a crock....I'll bet many scenes are lost to extraneous noise and movement. That is why they do multiple takes. I wasn't sure it was true when the reports surfaced about him abusing his family...Now I wonder it they weren't true.

  5. My brief synopsis of the damn dam:

    The dam, which is cleverly hidden past the end of Udey St., held back the waters of the Crawfish River creating the millpond which was adjacent to Rotary Park. During the flooding of 2003 (?) it was suspected that the foundation may have been compromised. Divers supposedly found erosion at the base of the dam and subsequently the millpond was drained.

    Since then there have been conflicting studies by structural engineers. The latest (post 2008 flooding) study basically says that the dam would be OK if some minor(ish) repairs were made.

    To complicate matters somewhat the DNR is on a kick to remove all unnecessary (my word) dams.

    My understanding is that no state or federal monies are available for repair or removal. Based on what I've read it would be more expensive to repair (and maintain) the dam than remove it.

    Those that support removal of the dam are, from what I understand, looking at it from a purely fiscal standpoint. There are a few as well that think that the dam contributes to the flooding problems of the past.

    Proponents of repair primarily consist of longtime Columbus residents and homeowners upstream of the dam. Homeowners claim reduced property values because they no longer have "waterfront" property. Longtime residents have fond memories of millpond recreation.

    Both sides have staked aesthetic claims.

    I'm sure someone will find errors above but I'm pretty sure that's the gist of it.

  6. Hi Callie from Rhode Island on a snowy day here in the Northeast. Christian Bale sounds like a real jerk!!! Who does he thing he is that he can talk to a fellow human being like that? He needs to be brought down a notch.

  7. Left Hand Louie did a wonderful job giving us a synopsis of the Dam (damn) thingy. There are many sub-parties but Louie stayed above that...

  9. Happy Tuesday !

    Sorry, can't make it on the 11th for Kurth, but weather permitting I am going to try and make this month's Friday night!

    The Bale thing...Holy cow! That just amazes me that he would say and do stuff like that. Geez...I was frightened and I wasn't even there LOL Totally changed my opinion on him now. They were talking on the radio today about how other actors might not want to work with him now, and I don't blame them.

    Have a great day everyone!!!

  10. Oh, and I wonder who is going to get in trouble for leaking that Bale clip LOL

  11. "...he made us listen to that one freaking song for over an hour. I'm not sure how long that song is but if it was a typical 3 minute song we heard it 20 times in a row." The entire song actually takes 8:33 (I know several people that hate it just for that fact) so you would have only had to hear it 7 or 8 times in an hour... still more than enough.

  12. "who is going to get in trouble for leaking that Bale clip"

    Really...I didn't do it...the gusa a jerk...but, I didn't do it.

  13. Louie, thanks for the dam synopsis. You write like a good journalist-- both sides revealed, with no apparent bias.

    Rotary Park is a great place to take one's Mullins Root Beer Float when one cannot enjoy Mullins' own picnic tables because of trucks kept idling mere inches from one's face. Park's nicer without spongy ground. --imho

    I always thought it was funny that a master of the short pop form, Buddy Holly, was "honored" by a jumbo-sized cup of bombast. --imho

    yeah, I'm going now

  14. From my memory LHL is right on track (as usual) about the dam situation. The one thing about this that is weird is it's not really about the dam. Its about Columbus having a small little river (almost a steam) running through town or a bigger river and a mill pond by the edge of town. The gates are out of the dam so right now we have the stream. So taking out the dam leaves things the way they are. It would appear to me that some substantial shoreline work ($$$) would need to be completed which never seems to come up in discussion of dam removal. Otherwise if the dam is repaired we go back to a bigger river and mill pond which covers up all the crap along the shoreline again. I think it would be a disgrace to take out the dam and leave the shoreline the way it is. It looks like garbage and would show no class as a community. Repair the shoreline and I think Kiwanis park and the little stream going through town could be attractive. It's getting to the point that most people forgot how it used to look. It was beautiful before. I personally don't care if it stays or goes but they need to do the job RIGHT which ever way it happens. From a cost standpoint all things considered I would bet it's a horse a piece.

  15. I meant Rotary Park rather than Kiwanis...

  16. Unless, of course, we were going to have a river run throught it...

  17. I would like to see a schematic of now and what the water way would be if it was fixed.

    I'm still cornfused on what both would look like - I'mm have to do some googeling and get my colors out.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I just don't want my house to flood again. Would fixing the dam prevent that? Or removing it? I am confused...

    ReplyDelete
  19. I can not see how putting gates in CREATE a larger stream if it flows N to S.

    But as I said - I'm kornfused.

    Jenny - prepare for a flood and take advantage of it. remember - it was the Fire department that filled your basement with bogus and faulty instructions.

  22. I'm not 100% sure but...

    In the past if we had flooding the gates were opened so the water would go through. Just like the dam is going now. So I don't think the dam would have an effect on flooding so long as the gates get opened when they need to be. That being said I'm sure holding the water back on a daily basis raises the moisture in the ground in certain parts of town upside of the dam. I would guess in a major flood the water would flow somewhat better if the dam was completely gone. Last year was pretty extreme and I hope we are never going to see that kind of rain again for a long time.

    Rod, that's the sad part. It's been gone so long nobody remembers what it looked like before. All everyone knows now is the big weed patch. Even if the dam was repaired it would probably take several years to kill off the overgroth, some of that is small trees now. See if you can find any older photos...

  23. OK Grinder, time for a special walking tour of Columbus for you this weekend. Ever heard of the Crawfish River Yacht Club?

    M -
    Thanks for the complement. I do have a strong opinion on the subject but I'll save that for some night at the Kurth.

  24. I was able to talk with Bale for a while when I was in Chicago filming PE. After they think they have the scene done, they review the film to make sure they have it before they yell CUT, so it was probably 15 or 20 min. He was as normal as you and I, great guy to talk to. Of course we were driving the old cars, racing down the back streets of Chicago having a great time. You wonder why these guys self explode when they have everything……

  25. I watched Chuck last night. My thoughts.

    1) the glasses are awful and after 45 minutes my eyes were bugging out and I had to take them off.

    2) it was a different kind of 3D. Not so much of the knives out of the screen thing, but more of depth in every scene.

    3) You could have watched it without the glasses, wasn't that bad.

  26. Very dissapointed in Christian Bale's attitude. Has Johnny Depp ever done anything like this on the set of a movie? Did anybody posting here get to work with JOhnny on Public Enemies?
