.
Lots of Public Enemies - just bear (bare? . . neather one makes sense) with me on this first section.
I have found my first MUST SEE TV for the summer. Mark Burnett the creator of the U.S. version of Survivor and Eco-Challenge (along with many horrible shows such as The Casino, Rock Star, Combat Missions, Pirate Master) has created Expedition Africa where 4 REAL Explorers retrace the steps of Haney Stanly and his search for Dr. Livingston in Africa.
Amazing scenery, great group of explorers and the Massai Warriors and porters that protect them are showing a wonderful sense of humor.
Seriously good - if you like unscripted TV - check this out. Watch full episodes on the above link.
Sunday nights are turning into great TV. Ice Road Truckers (History CH), Deadwood (The 101) and finally Exhibition Africa(History CH). It's a non scripted bonanza of delight.
And speaking of Public Enemies - I saw THREE ad's for the movie last night. First one was during Dateline which had a really interesting hour on Iran. That country is having an election (June 12th) this week that sounds a lot like America. 67% of Iran is under 30 years old (the Iran-Iraq war killed 1 million Iranians, the US helped Saddam Hussein do that - Thank you Mr Reagan - so wipe out the 50 year old's) and they are hoping to get a new leader who is not bull headed and full of himself.
Then during a commercial break both DJ and I were talking and looking the other way with blah blah in the background. All of a sudden we hear words we have heard before "One Minute . . . . . Flat" and we both turn around saying . . ."WHAT"? Rewind!!
Then two ad's on the History Channel. Both different I believe. Seems like Universial is goign to spend so big money.
Check out JSOnline - there is an article about Columbus "Columbus has kept one hoof in the past" how true LOL - maybe it should read "Columbus, the town afraid of change". Actually "we" want to change things by making things . . older. KEEP the historical buildings. Too weird.
One thing that needs to be taken care of . . . . .
What to do: The community hasn't disclosed its plans for the release of "Public Enemies," but keep checking the tourist sites listed at the end of this article for announcements about special events.
In keeping with tradition, Columbus likes to keep things a secret (Like the TREK 100 - more on that later - pissed me off). Here is a big beef I have with Columbus. In the article the final paragraph says
For more information: Contact the tourism site www.columbusmainstreet.org/visitor, or the City of Columbus site at www.cityofcolumbuswi.com. For information on other surrounding communities in Columbia County, visit www.travelcolumbiacounty.net or call (608) 742-3582.
Well - Columbus Main Street is only concerned with the historical downtown buildings which is fine. City of Columbus has a policy where they do not advertise events ABOUT Columbus because it is basically for Government and so forth. That leaves Travel Columbia County but they only have links to the Columbus Chamber of Commerce website which . . . . . . there is no such thing.
The city government SHOULD give funds to Chamber to get a freaking website up. I know that Main Street (of which I am involved with) would like funds also but I feel if money is being given out Chamber needs it for this. OR SOMEBODY! (my blog would also be a good investment).
SO - how the hell does one get any information about ANYTHING online about Columbus. For INSTANCE - I would have LOVED to know that the Trek 100 was coming through Columbus and actually having a stop at the Middle School. This was a great photo opportunity - BUT NOOOOO!!!!
This is the exact reason I started this blog - because there is no way for people to know what is going on!!
STILL!!!
The Columbus Journal needs a quick and dirty online page of what is going on.
============================
Check out EMPIRE Magazine - I'll post the link - this comes from Live Journal which I'm blocked and I'm sure the guy is breaking lots of copyright laws and once you read it you will be breaking the law also I suppose now that I told you. At least we will all be in jail together.

Looks like there is a lot on the Columbus calendar for this summer! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThat new show looks interesting. I will have to check it out.
PE is getting a lot of press latley, and things are coming up so quick! I'm excited!!!!
Have a great day all!
OK- just a few points- Columbus Main Street is not only concerned with buildings- they are concerned with businesses in those buildings that are in the Historic Commercial Downtown. But, this is all I am going to say here- if anyone wants to find out more please call 920-623-5325. I can give you as much info as you would like about the program.
ReplyDeleteI agree the Chamber needs their website up but without knowing the details I think we should assume they are working on that and get more people involved with all groups. It's the lack of involvement that really causes all these problems. Too few people to do A LOT of work....
Great Blog!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are posting it here!
People will at least see it!
Cool that you saw more PE stuff, and the front cover is a great photo.
