4th of July Columbus 2009

.

I'll have some comments about the movie review in the Isthmus Monday but if you read it remember - voters across the nation are giving PE a B+ and it is doing well at the Box office with another $10M Friday. This is actually a tough weekend for "R" movies as most families are out doing things! I think it will hit the $45M weekend predictions. As for Friday it was at $25M and doing fine.

Also Monday - out trip to Lake Mills and a hamburger problem.
=======================
So in case you missed the Public Enemies Columbus float.

It was a pretty riotous occasion and as I was told by one of the infamous Columbus 7 (that is a story that has not been printed yet and really shows Universals total ineptness at times - have not gotten permission to print it yet) . . . I was told Columbus has the best parade in these here parts from a cheerleader that has been in many parades!!

We were parked maybe 2 miles from the center of town and would be one of the first in the parade as Picture Cars don't like to be stopping and starting.

I've never seen any estimates but I would not be surprised at 10,000 people watch the parade. The 4th of July is a pretty big thing in Columbus (as noted that the Fireworks display is LONGER then Rhythm and Booms and in my view after watching both . . . better).

So the parade gets under way and the crowds are cheering and clapping and yelling Johnny.

The total ride was about 1 hour 15 minutes which is much shorter then actually watching the parade.

Karen Derr made a great float with chairs and a sofa and a Picture Car and a card table and Movie Star Dude was going nuts with Tommy Guns to the joy of the crowd.

You would think that 75 degrees was a great temp but we were all pretty hot. It was humid and I hate to think what HOT would have felt like.

I think I might make this into a postcard for collectors.

4th of July Parade 2009 Columbus Wi.

Notice the crowd. It's like that for over 2 miles. I really did not get that many photos as we are basically stationary on the float and the world moves by. But there are a few.

Speaking of fireworks. Was that giant smoke ring from the liquid fuel explosion amazing and sort of disconcerting?

They mix gas and diesel fuel and something else in a huge tube and light it. A fire ball blows straight up over 100 feet and you can feel your hair blow back (or at least you think it does). The first time it made a perfect black smoke ring that stayed hovering above us for maybe 15 minutes. Looked like a hole in the ozone had finally happened. I was amazing but then after a while you would look up and . . . there it is like a hole in the sky, still there!!

That it from parade day.
==================
I took a few cloudy day photos of some random flowers in a new garden that I'll close with today. Not a clue what they are - came in a packet of random wild flowers.

Have a great Sunday

  1. Thanks for the photos. I was working all day. A guy came in last night and said he was at the parade and that it was AWESOME! :) Oh yeah!

    Those last flowers look like Bachelor Buttons. I love them.

  2. We had a lot of fun in Columbus yesterday. I think Mike had more fun than anybody, with those tommy-guns. What a ham!
    Afterwards, we went to the park, where there was a DJ. Chicken dance, hokey pokey, limbo. Fun, fun, fun. The fireballs during the fireworks scared one of our kids, but otherwise we had a great time.

  3. IF you go to www.littlebohemialodge.com and click on HISTORY on the left hand side there will be a link to a LittleBo/Dillinger video. Original footage from the time. Runs just over a minute.

  5. Love the photos, but would like to see the originals of the ones on the float too! Great parade; I kept noticing the wonderful backdrop the buildings in Columbus made for the bands, float, and vintage cars!!
