I'm a Carny

.
WOW - talk about tough trying to get back into the flow of things after being off from work for a few weeks! I have like 300 emails here a work that I had to delete before I read them so I can plead ignorance.
-------------------

So the weekend of Public Enemies is over and now I'll probably have only 10 hits a day and 5 will be my mom who only reads this because I made it her home page. Pressure is off,
finally.

Public enemies made $26.1M for the weekend but it's not a fair comparison because it misses opening night. For the 5 days it made a respectable $41M which was what it was expected to do. All is well. Michael Mann's "Collateral" opened with $24M and Miami Vice opened to $25M but both premiered on Friday so PE is his best yet!

Some reviewers are saying they are disappointed because it is not really an Oscar movie and I say - HEY - expectations a little high there?

It's entertaining and isn't that the bottom line?

The Isthmus said people were walking out of the Premier in Madison hushed. Well - I have talked to many people that have seen the movie twice and 100% of them said "I liked the movie MUCH more the 2nd time". Well yea - instead of looking at the background, people WATCHED the movie.

You can not judge how good PE is by talking to people in Wisconsin.

Nation wide 83% of people polled give PE a B or better with 58% "A". 7% "F".

Personally - I'm good with the results and I think Hollywood is happy. "R" rated movies are a tough sell.

==============================

I met some new Columbus Residents yesterday. Everett Kitts and wife moved from Rhode Island (via Madison) and LOVE Columbus. Everett is artist and I was thinking last night . . .

for a town that is searching for an image we sure to have a lot of craft/artists in the area. If you did not have a chance to check out the Craft Fair yesterday I was pleasantly surprised at the talent and think we have to somehow cultivate this scene more.

Columbus Craft Fair.

Check out Kitts Kreations-----------------------------------------------------------
I won't tell you the story of The Revenge Of The Funnel Cake. All I know is once a Funnel Cake enters your body it acts like a sponge. Add 2 or 3 cans of beer and it expands your stomach trapping the beer in it's little sponge fibers. THEN once in bed everytime you roll over on your now bloated stomach it squeezes just enough beer out to make you get up . . over and over.

But they taste SO good.

I'M A CARNY.

I was hired by a carnival to take photos of their outfit. So if any of you live in Jefferson and are going to attend the Jefferson County Fair next Friday night and see a guy with a tripod taking photos - say HI!!!

This is a photo of my new best friends. Little Bill (L) and Slade His Real Name (R). Now as for Slade His Real Name. I was told twice and both times they said "Slade, His Real Name". So I'm not sure if his name is Slade His Real Name or just Slade which happens to be his real name. I did not get a photo of his son . . . . .Thorn!

As for Slade HRN. He said his parents had a sense of humor when they named him. I guess Thorn will be saying that also.

I'm thinking I might have some stories after Friday night!

These guys scared the bejesus out of me!! Man I hate carny dogs - so scary!

My coreopsis (threadleaf) garden

And take a look at this. This is a Globe Thistle. Each one of the little globes will be I THINK the size of a big purple baseball (little smaller).

The back yard. Started as a clean canvas 3 years ago. Wild flowers in front of the Cotoneasters (sp). We;re now working on the rock wall giving it dirt and filling in the bottomless holes with dirt.

This is the main garden that is just taking forever to get going this year. Had some bare spots to fill in and the Butterfly weed (milkweed) seems to want to take over the entire garden and I'm rethinking whether I want it or not.

This garden is the summer/ late summer garden which is looking more and more like late summer.
===============================

that's it.

Cheers!

One last thing - DO NOT PRESS THE RED BUTTON!!!

  2. Saw P.E. for the second time yesterday with my dad, husband, daughter, and two grandsons. First time for each of them. Three generations all liked it. I liked it even more after the second time. Much easier to follow the plot even though I still found myself looking at where scenes were shot. Does anyone know where the bathroom scene (Billie in the tub) was shot??

  3. Great blog, and I disagreed with some of the Isthmus opinions on the movie too, btw.

Sue, I wondered that too, and for some reason I have it in my head that the bathtub scene is the Poser Mansion too. I'm probably wrong about that, but it seems to fit the house....

    :p

I am over and out on vacation for a week, and probably won't be online at all. Have a wonderful week. I know I will. :)

  4. The bathtub. I don't know where the scene was shot, but I do know that the tub came from Crescent Moon in Oshkosh.

Some friends took a ride to Little Bo on Friday and they said the place was packed! They couldn't even belly up to the bar!

My friend Wild Willie spotted himself in three scenes shot in Oshkosh. That's great since he was supposed to be a bank manager and when shooting time came, plans got changed. He was so bummed. This makes up for his disappointment.

Don't count this out for Oscar. I read over the weekend -- maybe in Entertainment Weekly -- that right now PE is considered one of the top contenders. And don't forget, this Oscar season we will have TEN Best Movies, not the usual 5.
