I'm reading a book by Martin Dugard about the final days of Lincoln which starts with the final days of the 2nd American Civil war (the first being the Revolutionary War). I had never read about the final days and what actually happened and how we got there and it's fascinating.
The battle of Saylors Creek which most historians believe to be the most savage hand to hand combat in the war where solders were literally killing each other with their teeth in a giant 1000 man scrum. No weapons besides blunt objects - just hand to hand killing.
Or the clusterf*ck when Lincoln stepped foot into Richmond the Confederate Capitol and the entire town literally burned to the ground by accident.
After the Confederates abandoned the town the towns people did not want the Union to to get ANYTHING. So with axes they smashed all the whisky barrels and tens of thousands of gallons flowed into the streets. However - the city government did not want all the tobacco to get into union hands also so they decided to burn all the tobacco . . .which lit the enormous warehouse area on fire which in turn lit all the whiskey flowing in the streets on fire.
BUT WAIT - there is more. The Confederate Navy decided that this was the best time to to set the entire James River arsenal on fire. In the next 4 hours over 100,000 artillery rounds exploded sending steel particles into the air for over a mile killing hundreds that were fleeing from their homes that were now in flames.
Meanwhile Lee and his army were literally starving but they knew a 2 day 48 hour march 50 mile march to the Amelia Court House where there were wagons of food that would fill 50,000 bellies and to continue to fight. The army had not had more then one tiny meal a day for over 4 months and were literally starving, most had no shoes or warm clothing.
The march alone killed over a thousand as they starved. They could see the wagons miles away after marching for 48 hours but when they go there. The wagons were full of ammunition . . . not one speck of food.
The food had been stolen by confederate profiteers and taken to Richmond . . .where it was now on fire.
John Wilkes Booth was a piece of work. I'm pretty sure he would be wearing a MAGA cap if he was around today.
The Confederate government gave him a boat load of cash to kidnap Lincoln and he had the plan ready to go. More then 20 people were in his plan to kidnap Lincoln and take him south.
And that is where I am at the moment.

Maniac - what a crazy weird binge-worthy Netflix show. One of those shows where you end a episode and say "What just happened?" and you MUST watch another one.

Is the Electoral Collage soon to be gone? Two-thirds of the way there for voting out this National gerrymandering problem that only helps the GOP.
181 votes of the 270 needed have now signed on to dump it. The Red deeply conservative GOP states are still against it. But of course the lawyers will get involved so . . . . don't hold your breath.

The Bucks lost their 2nd game in a row. The 4th longest streak of not losing 2 games in a row to start a season in NBA history. Of course it was the 4th and 5th games of a brutal West Coast road trip.

I'm a little pissed at Maurers Grocery when they complained that Columbus was just not supporting them and THUS leaving. Well . . . . I sent an email to the owners saying thanks for lasting THREE FREAKING MONTHS, awesome business plan. Even though in the past 5 years the store was nothing but empty shelves was boycotted because of the owner and they could not last more then THREE FREAKING MONTHS?
DID THEY KNOW THE HISTORY OF THAT STORE?
With that said Maurers right now has EVERYTHING 20% off (even booze) and if you go to
https://maurersmarket.com/
The bottom left side you can get on their email list and get a free $5. So $5 and 20% off everything.
I don't know where to get good grocery store meat now and their bakery was MUCH better then Pic and Save (I've tossed out their donuts twice). Since they remodeled they got rid of 3 things I buy regularly and won't put them back in "no room". I guess they need 15 feet for dog treats you know.
The their deli us great!!

I continue to draft and there is a SERIOUS lack of catchers. I think I'll have 4 on my team to get enough plate appearances. My one hole.
I did draft Jose Bricano who has about 100 PAs. He hit .239 with a .385 slugging - HOWEVER against lefties where he will play 100% he hit .288 and a .575 slugging.
I still need 250 ABS

Ten years ago today the great recession bottomed out. If you invested $1000 it would be worth $500 today.
Cheers - "warm" weather is coming this weekend.
