Not Another One!!

I just had to do that. With so many people saying they were "afraid" of clowns in the comments yesterday I had to see how many were "afraid" and how many were just "uncomfortable".

If you read that entire sentence, you are only "uncomfortable".

If you could not read that entire sentence - visit this site CLOWN PHOBIA - Imagine What Your Life Would Be Like Without It... Coulrophobia!!

What about Clown Capes???
===============================================
The Aliens are watching me now!!! I woke up this morning and looked out the window. What did I see.

ANOTHER UFO.

This one seemed to be just hovering, it was multi colored and was making no noise at all. I was frightened and hid in a corner for 15 minutes waiting for them to come and get me. Then I got my camera and peeked out the window at this horrible monster. I took photos and will submit them to the National UFO Center.

It had seemed to pick something up, perhaps an ice shanty or something.

OH THE HORROR, THE HUMANITY!!!!

I'm hoping it picked up our neighbor who decided it was time to insult us and yell at us last night for having our cat OUTSIDE and not on a leash. THERE DOG (a spaniel?) almost ate poor Milo because he is an untamed animal and Milo must have looked like food.

We were told that Milo was on THEIR property and if we can not control Milo she will life trap him and take him to Animal Control.

I seriously DOUBT Milo was on their property. The one who shall remain nameless lets her dog out with no leash and like most friendly dogs wants to play. Milo would love a play friend. BUT, she takes Millie's excitement as aggression.

She says Milo was on their property (meaning we can not control our cat). What if Milo was 4 feet over on OUR property, then their rabid attack Spaniel would not pay attention? Perhaps it is now WE that have an animal problem???

That is all I will say on the subject. Obviously she was low on sugar and had a bad round of golf and felt it was time to insult us, it had been a while since the last insultation.

Looking pretty good ain't it! The brew is just bubbling away. The yeast are eating the sugar and farting out alcohol!

I'm actually going to leave it in the primary fermentor for 2 weeks and then the secondary for 1 week and THEN bottle it. I have been reading that most people transfer into the secondary too soon. The yeast fart alcohol but poop diacetyl. If you leave the wort in the primary longer the yeast will . . .like a dog . . .clean up after themselves and the brew will taste way way better.

Many season pros skip the secondary altogether.

Next up. A Porter.

I have a new blog Grinders Island Brewery - tell your homebrew friends to check in (nothing there yet).

Check out this link everyday and feed an animal. It's an animal rescue site and every time you click on the button you give an animal .6 of a bowl of food . . . in theory.

OK - have a great day!

  1. I think house cats shouldn't be left outside not on a leash either. They do a lot of damage to wildlife. Good example is killing song birds.

Cats are domestic animals and do not need to be outside to be content. There are many hazards to being outdoors that may shorten your cat's life or cause your cat to become seriously injured or ill. Indoor cats can get plenty of pleasure and stimulation if they are regularly played with and receive lots of affection. If you still want your cat to experience the outdoors, but without the risks, you can train your cat to go outside on a harness and leash or build a cat enclosure.

  5. cat enclosure are not allowed, Milo has gotten out of every harness we have put him on.

Some cats are meant to be outside as they are NOT domestic animals (even though many people TYHINK they are) - at least some are not. They are not like dogs.

We had thought of giving milo to a shelter but were told he would be euthanize. Thus - Prozac is given to him to keep him more docile for 12 hours a day.

We have heard all those arguments before and as most experts say - is a lot of hooy! Playing is fine IF you want to play for 12 hours.

We don't WANT Milo to experience the outdoors at all. But if you want to listen to meowing for literally 8 hours you are welcome to come and get him.

Do a lot of damage to wildlife?? Like killing mice? How many times have you seen a cat catch a bird anyway.

I'm sure Josh and Jenny will tell you about Milos A.D.D. problems.

He is fully clawed, 13 pounds of muscle and can take care of himself if he had too.

Sorry - for going off but this is like telling someone how to raise their child - every cat is different. I have raised cats for 50 years and know all about cats and behavior.

  6. If you want to coke and take Milo off our hands to keep him indoors - he is all yours. :-)

Trust me - we would LOVE to have Milo be an indoor cat!

  8. Whoops. Agree to disagree, kids. I let my cats out daily, but they are never just left to wander. None of my cats has killed anything in years. Anyway...I don't want in on this fray.

I was just going to make a comment about the animal rescue site. There are five other sites that you will see buttons for at the top of the Animal Rescue site for other worthwhile projects. Click 'em all. It takes like a minute, and I've been doing it daily for several years. :)

  9. To respond back to how many times have I seen a cat kill a bird I have seen more cats kill birds then I have seen trees fall in the woods. Good example I've had a mourning dove, female duck and robin killed by a CAT on my property in the past year.

So all the studies are bullshit? The UW of Madison doesn't know what it's talking about?

It's not a native species and has NO need to be outside. And if you are all for having cats outside without a leash or an enclosure then I am all for dogs not needing to be on a leash.

Cats ARE domestic animals. They were domesticated thousands of years ago in Ancient Eqypt. The only native cats we have here in N. America are bobcats, mountain lions etc. NOT feral cats!!

As a proud bird owner I am aware that it is pointless to argue with cat owners over this because they just never get it.

    good day

  10. I mostly agree that domestic pet cats should be kept inside. There are too many hazards outside that could harm them; especially in the city...

To me, Milo is a special case. He was picked up by the Humane Society as a stray. Ever since Rod and DJ got him he always wants to go outside and he will MEOW and MEOW really LOUD for hours and hours if he can't go out. They had to put him on prozac just to get him to be quiet. Then when they moved to Columbus, they found themselves along the edge of town practically in the country so now they let Milo out at night and he has stopped meowing as much.

    They had three options.
1.)Live with loud annoying meowing all day and night.
2.)Take him back to the humane society who said he would be euthanized.
3.) Let him go out a couple hours every night. Which seems to keep him content.

I personally would never let my cats outside because I would be afraid something would happen to them. But in Milo's case I don't blame them for making the decision they did.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Agree with what Jenny says - we have another cat that will never go outside - I'm against cats being outside.

Milo is the first cat in my life (I have had many many cats) that I let go outside!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well censorship does nothing to solve problems it only makes them worse.

We called the Columbus Police Dept and asked them if it is illegal to have a cat enclosure and it's NOT. So your source is obviously wrong. :)

We can agree to disagree but I do understand cats. I've had pet cats in the past. I also understand birds.

Loud annoying meows: when you took the cat in you made the decision to have him as a pet. This is part of pet ownership. If you can't handle this then return him to the humane society or find him a home that can handle his special situation.

When we brought home our parrots we understood the loud noise they make. We deal with it and accept it. And trust me their screaming is WAY worse then listening to a cat meow. :)

It also isn't fair to my parrots to have cats roaming free around the neighborhood. When my parrots are inside they enjoy watching the outdoor birds from their cages. My one parrot when a cat strays into our yard freaks out and falls off his perch and could hurt himself. So not only do cats harm outdoor birds they also pose a threat to indoor pet birds who see them as a predator.

Also when we take our parrots outside they are either on a leash or in a cage. That is called being a responsible pet owner.

  13. I have had cats. They were all indoor/outdoor cats. The last one died of kidney failure at age 22. She was a great hunter, but always brought the live mouse, possum, lizard, bird, winged stage of a tomato/tobacco hook worm (ever seen one of those? About the size of hummingbirds. *shriek*). I was always catching critters and putting them back outside where they belonged.

    ReplyDelete
  14. People shouldn't have birds as pets! They should be outside where they can fly. That's why god gave them wings!

  15. It's an association rule!

Also - do you NOT read other posts?

    Jennys three options.

Or are you just ranting without TRYING to understand.

I AM AGREEING WITH YOU - WHY ARE YOU ARGUING.

    However - Milo is a special needs cat. It's a love/hate relationship

    ReplyDelete
  16. Actually I think the reason cat enclosures aren't allowed in Rod's neighborhood is because they live on the golf course and there are lots of restrictions from the neighborhood association there.

  20. I've owned many cats through the years, and they are all so different!! Some don't want to go outside and some do-and the ones who do will try anything to get outside-our cat Vince is a prime example. He is very sneaky about it-if the door is open for a second he's out, and trying to catch him is impossible-ask my 3 kids who've all tried to grab him, just doesn't work-he comes back when he's ready-usually if he's hungry enough!
Sorry about your neighbor problems-Rod and dj-she sounds like a person who just can't be happy-so she lives to make others miserable(maybe she needs some "clown-therapy?")
Thanks Jenny-and dj-you guys are the best!!!Rod and Josh too!!

  35. I have the BEST pet of all, a Hermit Crab. It doesn't cause problems, except for other Hermit Crabs, and it doesn't make noise, except when it's shell hits the glass enclosure! I can let it loose 'cause it's slower than me and I can easily catch it! And I have a great time telling people, "I have crabs!" LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  36. My neighbor has hermit crabs and they drive me nuts. All the noise of their shell hitting the glass at night keeps me up, they should be on a leash. J/K

Can't we all just get along.:)

  37. Cat Vs. DOG...

Yeah right...put cat on a leash so it looks like MORE FOOD for the dog. Hello! I don't think so! I'd be more likely to set up a trap for said dog!

keep dog on leash, keep cat on leash, OR keep both inside. Or give both visitation hours and rights to their own yards! LOL...

I knew you were joking Rod :)

I think a fish tank is great for a nursing home. Fish tanks help to relax people and are calming. So if the patients have high blood pressure it would be great for their health. Plus they are beautiful and bring something nice into the place for them to enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Isn't there a big fish tank in the Columbus nursing home on the northside of town? Josh's great grandma used to live there and I think I remember fish. Or maybe it was a big bird cage. I guess I can't remember that well...

  41. Mary, yeah the neighbor lady was really MEAN to them. The way it sounded, she may have a few screws loose if ya know what I mean...

  46. I don't usually go in for random generalisations, but yeah, this one gets me.

Americans are just weird when it comes to cats.

A cat on a leash? Whaaaat? Declawed? Inside cats? On prozac? Only in America. Honestly. Cats are carniverous predators, hunters. Thye catch birds and animals and bring them home as a gift.

In UK law, cats are considered uncontrollable, unlike dogs. Cat owners can't be prosecuted for their pets actions. Cats over here go where they like - I have about 5 or 6 visit my garden regularly. They sleep on your car, because it's warm, without anyone shoving them in a sack and killing them. (Happened to a friend in the US once.)

I'm not a cat owner/lover, but cats are what they are, and people need to accept that and not try to change their nature. And Rod's neighbour needs a water pistol to squirt Milo if he comes over the fence.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Cats rule, dogs drool. Our cats pretty much rule the house and yard. WE live with them NOT the other way around. According to our cats...
    :P

  48. ms wonderland,

LOL, speaking of cats and water... that's another funny story. One time, Milo wouldn't stop meowing and he was driving everyone nuts, so finally Rod took him in the bath tub and turned the faucet on him...

He did even care!!! He just got out and started licking himself like nothing happened. Milo is a sweet cat besides the constant meowing, but sometimes I wonder if he has some mental problems... hehe

If that was one of my cats and I put them in the bathtub, they would go nuts; hissing and howling to get away.

    ReplyDelete
  49. maybe Milo has some Siamese in him...I have a constant meower, and she is a Semi-ese...but I just take my hearing aides out.

This kitteh also runs out the front door and rubs herself silly on the porch concrete for 3 minutes and then goes back inside. She also steals pens, hard candy, lipsticks, batteries, and toothbrushes...kills them soundly and brings them back to me.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yeah Krusty!!1 Where's Sideshow Bob???

I have raised a temperamental, difficult cat. It seems to me that Rod and DJ are doing their best to compromise a difficult situation. Sometime in order to reach that happy medium, you have to bend your beliefs a little. I am not fond of cats being left to run at will, nor do I think a cat should be left out on a leash. My Scooter absolutely had to be outdoors (other than winter months). The compromise was a ten foot tie-out on the deck. If I couldn't be out with her, she was checked on every 15 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh boy...an animal topic. As someone in the veterinary field...this is a pretty BIG sunject with me. I won't go into it all though LOL

Most cats that are left as outdoor cats, and without proper vaccinations, contract NUMEROUS diseases including Feline Leukemia, and Feline Immunodefficiency Virus. These are deadly diseases, and some cannot be prevented. All my cats are kept inside, and they have all their claws. (Except one I rescued but he came that way)

I have one cat that takes medication for his ADD issues, and he howls ALOT, but he is the sweetest cat and I wouldn't trade him for anything! :)

However, it is the owners ultimate descion to let them outdoors or not, and some cats do just fine out there. Esp ones who have never even been in a house before. So Rod, if you need to let him out just make sure he is up to date with Rabies, Distemper, and Leukemia vaccines.

Also, putting Milo on regular deworming schedule is advisable, since the things that they can get into (mice, rats, etc) Can carry parasites, and many of them YOU can actually get from him. (I'm sure you know all this already though LOL)

The other thing to consider for out door kitties is the risk of heartworm disease. Even though cats can "fight" it off, it is still better to prevent it then it is to treat it. Heartworm treatment in cats can actually kill them, so a once a month preventative is better.

Good luck with yor Kitty, and email me if you have questions or concerns.

Confession - One of my cats goes outside occasionally, even though I said he stays in LOL. *runs and hides*
