WE'RE NUMBER 2

OK - so Miller can make good commercials.
===================================
I see Aaron Rogers is ranked as the #2 Quarterback in the NFL. To bad his defense is ranked LAST in stopping the run - the 2nd easiest team per carry to run on in the NFL to run on - SWEET - WE'RE NUMBER 2!!
=================================
Speaking or Bear markets. I know many of you that have 401Ks or stocks love looking at the empty spaces where the stacks of money use to lay. Yea - it's hurting but you really have to put things in perspective.

This is only the third biggest Bear market since 1940. At the moment we're down 37%. The 2000-2002 Market stopped at 49% the market in the mid 70s stopped at 48%.

The average Bear Market lasts 16 months, we're at 9 months now. Nearly half the Bear markets (a drop of 20% is bear market) lasted about 1 year so it's totally not out of the question that markets can stabilize before the end of the year. Remember - at this point it is fear driving the market, not the economy.

On average at takes three years to make your money back but here is an odd fact.

If you buy into the market that the very worst time, at the very peak for the next five years you will average -0.6% returns. But after 10 years you will be averaging +6.6% returns. You really have to look at the long run and not worry about short term market swings like we are on now.

Looking for good signs for things to turn around? Extreme pessimism is a wonderful sign, seriously, when things are bad, buy, then things are good, sell. Policy responses around the world, tons of money on the sidelines, lower gas prices (have you seen gas prices in Columbus compared to Madison $3.27 compared to $3.47 WOW!!!). Plenty of bulls on the sidelines just waiting. Be patient.
========================
Cable Guy where are you!

So we all know that the digital revolution is coming in a few months and all of our rabbit ear TV will go shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh on February 17th 2009 when we turn them on.

Here is a question. There is a natural disaster and we lose electricity. No electricity means no digital box for all the TV's. No box . . . no TV. 7 million battery powered TV's that could be used in case of a natural disaster - useless.
=========================

I've created a monster - any hop heads out there?? I took the blow off tube out of my carboy and I think it permanently smells like hops.

==========================

I see the $700,000,000,000 bailout is going to help NASCAR - some of the ear marks will make it easier for race courses to write off deprecation. It seems instead of 7 years they will have 15 years for deprecation.

Here is the REAL problem

NEW YORK - In a sign of the times, the National Debt Clock in New York City has run out of digits to record the growing figure. As a short-term fix, the digital dollar sign on the billboard-style clock near Times Square has been switched to a figure — the "1" in $10 trillion. It's marking the federal government's current debt at about $10.2 trillion.

The Durst Organization says it plans to update the sign next year by adding two digits. That will make it capable of tracking debt up to a quadrillion dollars.

The late Manhattan real estate developer Seymour Durst put the sign up in 1989 to call attention to what was then a $2.7 trillion debt.

SNOW IS COMING!!

Northern Wyoming and Montana

"MAJOR WINTER STORM WILL IMPACT THE AREA BEGINNING TONIGHT...AND LASTING THROUGH SUNDAY. DUE TO THE STRENGTH AND DURATION EXPECTED FROM THIS STORM...IT COULD TURN OUT TO BE A HISTORICAL SNOW PRODUCER BY THE TIME THINGS WIND DOWN SUNDAY NIGHT ...ESPECIALLY ALONG THE NORTHEAST SLOPES OF THE MOUNTAINS."

  4. Well, aren't you just a wealth of encouraging information today?!! A major snowstorm, no front line for the number 2 quarterback, and a bear market that could go on for a long time!! It's easy to say to not panic or get down over the market if you HAVE time to let it balance out again. If you've just retired, or were planning on retiring shortly! LOL
    Love the commercial!!

  6. Ok G, so I get a tv adapter with battery back up and the electricity goes out and I still get no tv. Why. G that analysis was obviously done after drinking a large amount of your home brew. Leave the heavy thinking to the wizard

  7. Yeah, so many victims in this mess-- who didn't even get a spa weekend out of it like the AIG honchos. I really feel badly about those who worked hard for so many years and planned for retirement, hoping to pull that trigger (to use an ironically painful metaphor)right about now.

    There's some really good humor appearing on the lefthand blurb column of Rod's post today: Please let me point out thatI am not reflecting on what it really means to be a c...! I really don't think I'm a c... at all! I hope nobody else thinks I'm a c...!

  8. Rod,
    You forgot to say the market is like Penny's "white sale" right now. Great deals all over the place, so if you have some extra money you don't need, it would be a great time to buy sheets for next year (or six) sort of speaking.
    A side note picked up an autographed PE Johnny Depp picture reasonable on the auction sight, also got my junior g-man badge. After the movie is out the prices will be much higher.
