Move Along Andromeda Galaxy (right) we're not your bitch anymore!! In fact The Milky Way Galaxy (left) can kick your BUTT!!! I was going to post life size photos of both but it was taking to long to load so I opted for smaller photos. But the news is that scientists have found that The Milky Way is NOT the weak sister of Andromeda as everyone thought. In fact The Way is 15% larger and has 50% more mass. YEA BABY!!!
One of the wonderful things we found when we moved to Columbus is that every night we can go out on our deck and see The Milky Way. So cool!!

Notice gas prices lately?? I was surprised they were going UP as I thought oil prices were going down. HA! That will teach ME for going on vacation. Seems the Israel ground offensive vs. Gaza is the cause for raising prices (like we get so much oil from Israel and Gaza). That and some Ukraine and Russia dispute has made investors push the prices higher.
Once again it's not supply and demand affecting prices, it's investors.
And speaking of investing. There are three big trends that are being closely watched in the stock market. We finished the first test, The Santa Clause Rally. The next two are the first five days of January and the final is January as a whole. Seems weird but year after year those three are right on when it comes to predicting the market year.
The Santa Clause Rally was +7.4% this year which is a good sign. The first 5 trading day trend is positive so far after two days being up 2.7% (S & P 500 is the index to look at). Cross your fingers.

I want to thank all of you in the comments for posting there was a Public Enemies article in EW. However - just so you know I was not asleep at the wheel, I posted the article with photos last week. :-) BEAT YA!!
BUT - keep up the good work.
I received an email from Stop Light Dude (although he calls himself Traffic Light Dude . . . . I wonder if this is a major faux pa). He sent a photo of the first place Dillinger robbed in his robbing career. Or at least the place CLAIMS to be the first. I thought the Security National Bank and Trust in Sioux Falls, South Dakota was the first but that was March 6, 1934.
If you look in the middle of this photo (I believe it will blow up . . . enlarge . . . if you click on it) you can see "Dillinger did his first bank robbery here June 21 1933". There WAS a brass plate but somebody stole it.
Looks like a fortress to me!! It's the bank building in New Carlisle OH.
Dillinger's first robbery of any kind was a grocery store in 1924.

I want to thank Nancy Osterhaus for informing me that there is free sand & salt for your sidewalks and driveways at the Public Works on east School Street . Stop by during business hours to pick up a bucketful. All I have to do is be around during business hours!! hmmmmmm!
No news from Bob Link and Peter Kaland the other people two running for Mayor.
===========================================
IT'S BLAKE'S BIRTHDAY!!! He is 12 today (yesterday actually but don't tell him we forgot). And no he not that small, 35 pounds. It's just a lot of snow.
==========================
Sassy Cow Creamery won all sorts of awards beating out Ben & Jerry's but U can't find it on their website. Then I google of Sassy Cow and my Milk Stout is the 2nd one to come up. I better get over there and give them a few bottles and tell them I'm not selling the beer.
Have a great Tuesday!

Well, happy birthday to Blakey, anyway. ;)
Happy Burfday Bakey Coco!
ReplyDeleteNow there's a great rumor to start! Mayor kissing Rod..to funny! Happy Birthday Blake- it's our son Kevan's 21st birthday today and yes, we spelled it with an A on purpose- long story...I'll tell anyone who wants to know sometime over a few beers at the Brewery..but you'd fall asleep!
ReplyDeleteWhat's with the hanging traffic lights in that picture???
ReplyDeleteLike the info on the galaxy!
Kim...don't understand your question about the hanging lights??? I usually want signals in the pic but these are too modern and I didn't want to get run over:-)
ReplyDeleteTraffic Light Guy, the 1929 stock market crash pictures Down Town Chicago show the traffic lights at about 6 feet tall (compared to the people standing next to them) is this correct? I would assume they got taller at some point? I know the old cars are hard to see up from (big visors, no sunglasses back then?) even the 50’s cars had optional crystal reflectors on the dash they used to see the traffic lights.
ReplyDeleteGraham Man....The pictures of post mounted signals I have in 1925 + Chicago have them about 6 feet with the top of the finial at 11 feet. Please send the pics...I'd appreciate it! Also see Rods PE gallery...old Chicago pic from 1925!
ReplyDeleteSLD- I just think they look funny hanging there- I haven't seen hanging ones in a long time..:o)
ReplyDeleteGreat Blog!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Blakey!!!
Eat Lot's of Bones!!!
Yay!!! For the Milky Way!!
Gas Prices? Crazy~ Just don't understand the whole thing..
Cool picture of Dillinger Memorabilia.
And of the grocery Store, lights are old fashioned looking..
Sassy Cow Rocks!!
I am so glad they won!
I received there news letter the other day telling me about there award..Way to go.....
Have a great night everyone!
I may have found the bank in Sioux Falls that he robbed. The Sioux Falls robbery was the biggest of his career; something like $45,000. It looks a lot like the place in Oshkosh that they used for the movie.
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY BLAKE!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete12 years old today awwwwwwwww
Cool info, and pics on Dillinger! Thanks Rod!! And Stop light guy!!
Drive safely in the snow all!
So after I made the comment about the article on EW, I went back and read it and realized that I had already read the whole thing and saw the pictures on here. Way to be on top of things Rod! Happy Birthday to Blake. My corgi is turning a year old on the 23rd so 12 years seems a long way away.
ReplyDeletestop light dude
ReplyDeleteThe 1925 picture is what I am talking about the guy standing at the bottom of the pole could reach up and touch the bottom light with his elbo. The lights in the filming were just like today at least 9 foot to the bottom light the top would have had to have been 13-14 foot? I guess what I am saying/asking is it looks like the 1925 lights 3 to 5 feet shorter than today?
Thanks
So...I'm going to be an attention whore here by pointing out that I had extensive info on Dillinger's first robbery on my blog way back in April.
