You really did not want me blogging yesterday as I would have talked about gas, bloating and thinking if I had a good vomit I would feel so much better and then I probably would have started talking about the history of vomiting and then perhaps about famous vomiters like Catharina Geisslerin who in 1648 who was widely known as "the toad-vomiting woman of Germany" but we all know that story from our childhood bedtime stories right? why repeat it.
Vomiting actually goes way back in ancient history. Al Gore said “I think that if we are to save the environment, we're gonna have to accept eating more recycled food in the future. After all, astronauts drink their own urine, so I don't see why eating vomit would be such a big deal. Not that I would eat it myself, of course.”
Heck
So vomit is also known as recycled food, it is a healthy alternative to cooking. Vomit can be made quickly and is always available from your local bulimic neighbor.
And BTW - When someone vomits it is polite to say "Ugh", because it is disgusting.
BUT - I digress!
I don't know WHAT it was but it was a rough day for ol' Grinder and a rough night of golf but Rolaids REALLY helped. I spell relief R-O-L-A-I-D-S. I think it was the Magnesium hydroxide (Milk of Magnesia) in the product. We all know magnesium hydroxide has smoke suppressing and fire retarding properties. You get a fire in the tummy and you are in some pain. I was definitely rumbly in the tumbly and growley in the bowley.
I'm all good now.

HAPPY B-DAY Josh AND Jenny!!

Doug Stanton has a new Extraordinary book out. If you don't know who Doug Stanton is you REALLY should read "In Harm's Way: The Sinking of the USS Indianapolis and the Extraordinary Story of Its Survivors" staring DJ's dad (well, there is a photo of him in the book). It's a great historical novel, a very good read.
Stanton's new book "Horse Soldiers: The Extraordinary Story of a Band of US Soldiers Who Rode to Victory in Afghanistan" (he does like long titles doesn't he) it's about the secret response of the US military right after 911. I WISH it was not $28. grrr - I hate waiting.
Horse Soldiers is a great read -- a riveting story of the brave and resourceful American warriors who rode into Afghanistan after 9/11 and waged war against Al Qaeda. We're hearing many of these stories for the first time -- and from those who waged a war worthy of Rudyard Kipling, James Bond, and Davy Crockett." -- Tom Brokaw

Hey - if you are a DIRECT TV home make sure you check out CH101. Seems like they are playing all the great shows which were canceled before then ended. Deadwood is just starting along with The Nine (I guess with unseen episodes). I still think Deadwood was the best show ever on television. And make sure you program 102, 103 and 104 into your receivers.
Speaking of TV. Some of you watched My Name is Earl before it was canceled. Well, you know a show is on it's death bed when The National Spelling Bee beats it out in viewers. At least it was not a puppet show beating it. And you know it's summer when the most watched show on a Tuesday night was "Americas Top 50 Phrases", WOW - yea - that got ME tuned in all right! I was on the edge of my seat. What's next, what will be #1.
OH - #1 was Yada Yada Yada - BUT - NOT even in the top 50 "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly". I can not take the list seriously.

So the Public Enemies Premier Committee met again last night (2 nights ago) and everything is running smoothly. Things are getting done and there is ample communication on an almost daily basis between all concerned.
Tickets were sent to the printer and all is well. The Tickets will go on sale Tuesday at Sharrow Drugs, West Side Gallery and you can email or contact me as I'll have some. Make Checks payable to the CDDC. There will only be 240, first come first served and I want to thank Kobussen Bus Company, Culvers of Columbus, Day One Pizza, Farmers and Merchants Union Bank, and Nickels & Dimes Investment Group, and of course Pizza Shak (new 20 inch single topping pizza for $10) for helping out.
NEWS FLASH - I see our Press Release has hit the intertubes, here is the release in the Daily Citizen.
Speaking of committee's and getting things done. The other committee that I'm involved with is the July 25th Celebration committee which is a little less organized. I feel event committee's really need to have all people involved with internet access and have everyone updated regularly. Not happening on this one. Fear of the unknown is setting in. One hand is not talking to any hands.
It's great that people are volunteering but there has to be a way to contact and stay in touch. No one knows what the other people are doing.
BTW - I still need Picture Car Drivers for July 1st for in front of East Gate in Madison July 1.

OH - one last thing - I wish I could have written something in the Columbus Journal. There was a Letter to the Editor last week by Bill Wendt who brought up some valid arguments on getting the word out about Columbus but he really did not have a clue as to how hard it is.
His one complaint was about getting the AAA book to have Columbus as a destination because it was FREE. Not sure why he thinks it's free. It's not! I contacted AAA and Columbus does not have a "qualified attraction". "every city in North America wants to be listed in the tourbook in order to promote their town especially since the listing is (was) free. The majority of cities have historic downtowns with lots of shops and restaurants"
NOW you must have a "qualified attraction" and I refuse to be one.
He also complained that there was no signage. I agree and have brought this up a few times. That problem is that does he know how much those signs cost? Has he donated money to the organizations that buy those signs? We looked into "Main Street" signs to go on 151 and they were about $3000 each and we would need at least two. The average green sign costs about $1500 a MONTH for a city.
The City no longer funds Main Street or Chamber (who would have to buy those signs). I'm hoping that in the future with the new administration, Mayor Bob will see the need to advertise more and have the city help out the organizations that are once again focused, energized and are showing they are working towards a better Columbus in a business-like fashion.
So while Mr. Wendt had good ideas he did not know the problems posed with implementing those ideas. Talk is talk, if he wants to really help join up, donate or vote for the people that will get things done.

NBC15 was in Columbus today!!
They stopped at Julies Java House and talked with Danielle about the up coming events in Columbus. THe Red Carpet and The July 25th Celebration!!!!
YAHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Thank You Chris Pabst from NBC15 for stopping in!
And Ryan too!!!!!
UPDATE!!!
ReplyDeleteTune into NBC at 6:00 tonight
I guess they are going to do a full story on Columbus and the events..
Just thought I would post!
Good thing you didn't have diarrhea.
ReplyDeleteCheck your facts! If the City paid for the Welcome sign, at the Hospital entrance and the City paid for the sign on 16/60 at he Elba Bridge - neither the Chamber of Commerce or Main Street need to be involved. The City has paid for these signs for years!!
ReplyDeleteYes, new highway brown and green directional signs are expensive. Why not think 'out of the box' and have the State add "Historic" before the word "Columbus" on the existing signs. Other cities have been able to accomplish this.
AAA - I'm looking at a AAA book and trying to figure out the'historic interest in Cambridge'. It mentions their pottery - but we have two! The difference is presentation!! Columbus has a Louis Sullivan bank, Carnegie Library, historic functioning City Hall, Amtrak, the largest Antique Mall in the State plus state and national recognized historic landmarks.
