Forget Hanna - Watch Out for Ike

Public Enemies Columbus Merchandise
WWW.PublicEnemiesColumbus.Com

Hurricane Hanna will blow a lot, rain a lot, and toss lawn chairs around the east coast but that is about it.

It's Ike we need to watch now!!! Ike was just downgraded to a Cat3 but will increase back to a Cat4 soon.

Here is the official "comments" from NOAA. It's funny how it's all in CAPS. I guess meteorologists can not be bothered to use the SHIFT key, they have way way more important things on their minds.

THE MID-LEVEL RIDGE HAS SETTLED IN DIRECTLY NORTH OF IKE...AS THE
HIGH-LATITUDE TROUGH DEPARTS ATLANTIC CANADA...AND THE HURRICANE IS
NOW HEADED DUE WESTWARD OR 270/13. NEXT TO DEPART THE WESTERN
ATLANTIC SCENE WILL BE HANNA...AND ALL DYNAMICAL MODELS SAY THAT IN
ITS PLACE THE RIDGE WILL EXTEND SOUTHWESTWARD TO FLORIDA IN A
COUPLE OF DAYS. A KEY UNKNOWN FOR THE 3-5 DAY FORECAST IS HOW
STRONG THAT RIDGE WILL BE AND HOW LONG IT WILL REMAIN INTACT. IN
GENERAL DURING THE LAST DAY OR TWO THE MODELS HAVE BEEN TRENDING
TOWARD THE RIDGE STAYING IN PLACE LONGER...RESULTING IN TRACKS
MAINTAINING THE GENERALLY WESTWARD MOTION LONGER AND DELAYING ANY
POTENTIAL TURN TO THE NORTH. THAT TREND HAS CONTINUED SOMEWHAT ON
THIS CYCLE...BUT THE CONSENSUS HAS ONLY SHIFTED WEST SLIGHTLY AT
DAYS 4 AND 5.

IT' FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!

First thing is . . . . I do not think there will be a field trip to Columbus International Stadium this week. HOWEVER - there will be one in the future just not tonight.

For anyone looking to make some cold hard cash betting on pro football go to my other blog Grinders Warehouse (where it all began). But read this first as it will be a little redundant.

BTW - I have $$ on the Packers. I might be a homey when it comes to rooting (not turning up with my snout, rooting) for my team but I will bet against them in a blink of an eye if I think I could make money on them. Remember - I did have a national 1-900 line at one time in my life for picking football games with ad's in National rags.

Go with the Packers!

This comes from Football Outsiders when discussing the Jet/Dolphens game.

Here’s a checklist of Favre Money Shots for Week 1. Collect them all and shout “Bingo.”
  • A pre-snap closeup of the eyes that launched a thousand journalistic man-crushes. The Jets may be in a Wing-T formation with Mike Nugent at running back and Brad Smith at center, but you wouldn’t know because you are lost … lost … lost in his hypnotic stare.

  • Favre celebrating after a good play. Because he just has more fun than the rest of us.

  • Favre offering sage advice to Kellen Clemens. He’s more than a legend; he’s a mentor.

  • A “Favre Timeline” graphic of his summer soap opera with the Packers. Because we all want to relive that.

  • Favre pointing to himself after an interception or bad pass and smiling. It’s on me. My bad. He’s not just a legend and a mentor, he’s selfless.

  • One of those long tracking shots from the pregame warmups, the ones that start around the ankles, move lovingly up the hips and torso, then end with Favre’s determined gaze as he slings the ball to an assistant coach. Directors used to shoot Goldie Hawn like that in the 1960s. It was a better time.

I have been watching the Republican hate speech's with disinterest the last few days . . .wait . . . no I haven't. Never mind.

I have been looking at photos of Ms. Palin the . . . poopy-head that . . . . did I just type that out loud? I apologize if I have offended anyone. That was underhanded and I normally do not use that word unless I'm at a dog show and then I just can't stop.

ANYWAY - I have been looking at her many photos and being a guy that watches fashion (it is fashion week you know?) and I can see a new trend starting. Rimless glasses. Having what could be the most powerful woman in America (15% chance) wearing that style I can see it becoming a hot trend in the vision care market. Lenscrafters is gearing up.

Seriously though - they are very becoming.

BTW - those rims she is wearing cost$375. NOT including the glass. Total package for her glasses is over $700. In her home she looked at 300 rims before deciding.

Speaking of politics - here is a little funny from The Daily Show. Thank goodness many Americans get their news from Late Night talk shows and shows like this.

And if Stop Light Dude is still reading this (I do not know his political affiliation). Here is a lovely look at one of his lights.

So long buddy.

Looking at the upcoming New Fall TV shows I can not believe that Knight Rider is only getting a ONE (1) on the Expect-o-Meter (out of a possible 10). WHAT - It stars Jamie from All My Children, how can it only get a ONE (1). Maybe a TWO (2) but a ONE? (1?).

sigh!

Rod.

  1. Rod, you always get yourself into trouble talking politics.

  2. LOL--At least there will be entertainment!

Politics are ugly because everyone picks and chooses what they want to hear, and what they want to focus in on. At the end of the day, we have to vote for the duo we think will do the best job in the White House.

  3. I think Pallin is the cutest thing in the white house since...Janet Reno!

Really - she is cute, isn't she?

This time around it may be the duo
that does the least HARM in the White House!!

  5. Politics and football. Ugh. I'm not interested in either. I know I'm strange. As far as tv goes, I finally finished season 2 of Lost. I'm slowly catching up. Ooops, I'm supposed to be studying. . .

  6. LOST - I still have to watch last years finale' - thanks for reminding me.

I'll take that bad word out and replace it with a different word!!

  7. On a completely different note...

  9. Good choice on not going to the Columbus Dome for the FB game tonight against Kettle Moraine Lutheran. Last year the Columbus got trounced 61-0 by them and lost about a dozen players due to injury.

I'll be there though. Gotta support the team regardless.

  10. Hey Rod, thanks for sharing the movie pic. I have quite a collection from a lot of your readers!
Some of my collector friends said they would boycott the movie, yeah right, I'll be first in line to see it....maybe up in WI if your having a party!

  12. I have to be careful as I know their are closet republicans out there.

A friend of mine has voted libertarian all of his life and he said he'll have to vote Democratic for the first time in his life.

But I do hope none of you take anything I say personally.

What REALLY matters to Joe Average America are the city races for mayor and so forth.

President typically has very little impact on 1 person. What I worry about is if Obama is NOT elected we will alienate 30 million African Americans.

If Obama was a republican with the same agenda as McCain I would still vote Obama. Yes - I feel a black President is THAT important.

    Anyone doing Kurth tonight????

  19. Hi Robbi!
I am going to watch Stand Up 2 Cancer tonight. If I can manage to get some homework done, I might be able to spend a day at the Wilderness water parks this weekend. It's not looking very promising right now. I am so lazy. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Not a closet Republican (far from it) but for the first time ever I will (most likely) be voting that way for the Presidency. I have nothing bad to say about Obama/Biden I just believe that McCain (too early to include Palin) is more qualified and will do a better job.

Contrary to masses I am optimistic about the new president regardless who wins. Either would be a huge improvement over what we have now.

I’m a little concerned about your (Grinder’s) comment about potentially alienating 30M Africa-Americans (am I allowed to say “black”?). If they are alienated by the voters electing McCain then I’m afraid they just don’t get it. Should 150+ million women feel alienated because Hillary wasn’t the Democratic nominee? Or if Palin isn’t elected Vice-President?

Should wackos be alienated if Nader isn’t elected?

In all seriousness, for our country’s sake we had better be ready for a black (or woman) president. But to vote for someone solely (or even heavily influenced) on of their race, gender, or religion only minimizes that person.

Vote for the person you have the most faith in. If that person happens to be black then I would consider it an added bonus.

This reminds me of when the Colts and Bears were in the Super Bowl. I was excited for Tony Dungee because he’s a great coach and deserved to win. The media made a big deal about him being black. Most people I know didn’t.

Tony is just a great coach. Period.

“And that's all I have to say about that.”

  21. Anon 2:35 - Universal borrowed Stop Light Guys Vintage Stop light for the movie to use for making replicas and they destroyed it. But they the failed to tell him until he got lawyers involved.

As for politics, I agree with Louie that no matter who wins (McCain or Obama) They will be a hell of a lot better than Bush :P

Don't think I'll be at Kurth tonight. Still felling congested. It is like I'm under water :P

  22. Sounds like Stand Up 2 Cancer will be it for us tonight...

MSW~ Hope you did your Home Work!!!!
So you can have a fun day at the Wilderness this weekend...

I am hoping to make it to the dells next weekend for Wha Zha Wa Days
    It sounds like fun...

  23. Yes, if not Kurthing, turn in to STAND UP TO CANCER 7PM on all 3 networks (abc, nbc, cbs) NOT asking people to donate but maybe you will learn a little more about research, people battling these horrible diseases and how underfunded some research is. Cancer has touched so many people's lives-almost everyone know someone who has it or someint in their family has been touched by it.

LHL I agree with what you said, people should vote for who they think will do the best job as president or who best represents their views not for a gender, or skin color or because they are from your home state or any other reason like that.....I'm voting for Obama, I'm a liberal Democrat but ask that everyone VOTE for whoever you want but just VOTE

okay off my double soapbox now

    ReplyDelete
  24. LOL I agree with you guys.

I normally try to stay out of talking politics.

There is no right or wrong here. Neither Obama nor McCain have all the answers to the problems this country faces--nobody does. Everybody has to make up their own mind and vote for the guy that is right for them!

No matter what the outcome, I know we will be better off. It can't be any worse than what we have had to put up with for the last eight years!

BTW I don't believe for one second that Rod is voting for Obama simply because he is Black--no matter what HE SAYS! LOL (sorry honey)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Rod, you can be so goofy sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wait - did I just say I would vote for republican?

    LOL - That's crazy talk.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So long as this is turning into a political blog...

    Affirmative w/ LHL.

One would hope that voting would not be based on race or gender. I don't want to see a black man or a woman become President because of race or gender. I want America to elect the best person for the job. I'm also not foolish enough to think it doesn't matter to people. The last couple weeks have been a blast to watch if you take your politics with an open mind. Agree or disagree with the platform the race has become infinitely more interesting with the addition of Sarah Palin. I am thrilled she was McCain's selection. I'm not saying I agree with her. I'm just blown away by how this unknown player has come out of nowhere and completely changed the game in a matter of a week. Like her or not she is a powerful speaker that has lit one hell of a fire under the republican party. Just like Barack Obama has inspired the democratic party not to mention people all across the globe. From day one I have felt that Barack Obama is one of the most charismatic and inspiring candidates to enter the presidential race since JFK. Based on what I have seen so far Sarah Palin might have the moxie and spunk to impact republican politics in a huge way for years to come. I feel fortunate to be witnessing history whichever way it turns out. I find both Obama and Palin captivating and inspirational. Their stories are remarkable and 100% pure American. That is the truly great thing about this country. We have reached a point where a black man and a woman are competing for the highest seats in the land. About time. Enjoy the moment.

Put political beliefs aside for a minute. Could you think of two more inspiring roll models for your children? Respect these people for who and where they are right now. Appreciate what they have each accomplished and pass that respect on to your kids. They are both breaking historic barriers and they are the players. The road has been paved by those who lost and they deserve our respect as well. Debate, disagreement and questioning is good for America, trashing is not.

That being said I have my reasons for who I want to win. As for why it's my business and my privilege as an American to cast my vote.

Back to Politics - the forbidden subject.

The one thing 70% of use can agree 100% on is that ANYBODY will be better then the current admin.

I probably will not speak of politics anymore now that the rhetoric is over and the real anguish and BS now begins.

I'm also proud to be an American and very greatful I had the good luck to be born in a country where I have a voice. Most are not so lucky!

  36. Yes - I had cancer and underwent MOHS Chemo surgery on my shoulder from a melanoma.

Funny thing is I was sort of kicked out of counseling as I was not feeling enough . . . grief? angst? Worry?

    They HATED my positive attitude.

Politics - I have a very one sided view because I was screwed over by the republicans - OH - I have other reasons but they have cost me more then $20,000 out of my pocket at this point so I have a bone to pick!

yea - I'm angry at that party for sneaking a small bill in a port authority act.

It had nothing to do with anything related to terrorism but they knew the bill would HAVE to pass because Congress was going on vacation in less then an hour. It completely screwed over 2 million Americans.

The bill made it illegal for banks to accept money for gambling EXCEPT Horse Racing and Lottery's.

My first writing gig went belly up 2 weeks after the bill was signed as advertisers pulled their ad's from Full Tilt Poker the Magazine.

So take your family income and cut $10,000 a year from it and tell me if you are not a little jaded!

OOOOOh - Now I'm all worked up!
